This is a post about my faith.

Yes I’m a Christian, but I didn’t think about God when I lived at home. For a short time as a preteen, I went to Sunday school. Didn’t everybody? I didn’t figure it out till I was 30.

HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED

Our seven-year-old daughter Crystal was playing with the little girl across the street when we lived in Pembroke. Her friend Eva invited her to a Wednesday kid’s program at church. She liked it and she invited us to Sunday church.

We thought church was only open on Sunday so to keep Crystal happy we attended.

We noticed the people at that church were nice. They were positive. They didn’t judge me for wearing a Rolling Stones t-shirt or where I worked or my bad language.

They invited us to couples parties that went on quite regularly. That’s how we got to know other Christians. Even though we weren’t church people we felt comfortable with them. There was another music fan there around my age. We really connected.

We figured things out from there and together Janice and I decided to be Christians. Our parents were not happy!

There was no burning bush and God didn’t jump out of the sky at me. I didn’t change my lifestyle all at once. It’s been a process over many years. It’s still a process. I’m still figuring it out.

WHAT I BELIEVE NOW

I don’t think you have to go to church to be a Christian. I don’t think you have to read your Bible or listen to Christian music or hang out with Christian people. But, I say, it’s better if you do.

I follow the Bible as best as I can. I don’t understand some of it and other parts I struggle with, like why God wants things done in a certain way. Sometimes it doesn’t seem logical to my mind. I don’t get it. But don’t pick and choose what I like and what I don’t. I accept it all whether I understand it or not - based on faith.

At times, when I’m going through bad times sometimes i think my faith is hanging by a thread. But I know God is still hanging onto me.

A lot of my friends have wrong information about Christianity. They listen to the wrong people and think the wacko Christians represent all of us. They don’t.

GOD WANTS DIRTY PEOPLE

Some people don’t go to church because they think God doesn’t wants them because they aren’t good enough. That’s silly. God doesn’t expect you to be Super Christian.

You can go to church exactly as you are. You swear? OK. You smoke pot? OK. You’ve had an abortion? OK. You lied to people? OK. You look at por-n-ography? Ok.

But wait…what if you’ve murdered someone? Yes, even if you’ve murdered someone, God still wants you

God doesn’t make you give up anything. He just loves you.

He takes you as you are. Don’t worry about your crappy history and bad choices and your junk. We all have junk.

God forgives. God wants you, even if you’re a monster. Haha. Well it’s true.

God has everything under control. The world is out of control, but not out of God’s reach.

I don’t push my faith on anyone, but if they ask, I’ll be happy to chat.

BOTTOM LINE

Why do I believe Christianity is real? Because I’ve had enough answered prayers, a few miracles and supernatural situations in my life to convince me that there is something bigger than me going on in the universe. Something called God. The God of the Bible is real and bigger than my problems.

I believe Jesus is the only way to Heaven and that’s who I follow.
