Get Out of the Boat

"And Peter answered him, 'Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.' He said, 'Come.' So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus." - Matthew 14:28-29

Obeying God often means stepping outside of your comfort zone. Abram had to leave behind everything he knew: his home, his success, his familiar surroundings. All to follow God into uncharted territory. Ur was safe and predictable. Canaan, on the other hand, was filled with hills, rough terrain, and enemies stronger than him. But Abram decided that what God had for him over there was better than what he had over here.

Too many people miss out on what God has for them because they refuse to step out of their comfort zones. They settle for mediocrity because it feels safe. But faith isn’t about playing it safe. It’s about trusting God even when the path is unclear.

Peter understood that when he stepped out of the boat. People often criticize him for sinking, but at least he had the courage to get out of the boat. He acted on God’s word even when it seemed impossible. Faith is about action. It’s not enough to just hear God’s voice, you have to respond to it.

Just like Abram and Peter, if you want to see God move in your life, you have to be willing to take risks. You have to be willing to step into the unknown and trust that God will guide you. Whether it’s starting a business, going back to school, or pursuing a dream that feels beyond your reach, faith requires you to take action.

God doesn’t always give you the details. He wants your faith to be in Him, not in the process. So, what’s holding you back? Fear? Doubt? Uncertainty? It’s time to move beyond that. It’s time to get out of the boat and trust that God is with you every step of the way.
