Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
As you know I have been dealing with plantar fasciitis in my left foot. I was talking to the receptionist at therapy about a host of topics when we both landed on how stubborn our generation is. We laughed when she said that she works for the doctor profession, but she does not like going to the doctor…too many sick people. I told her that it took me two years to get to this point where I am doing physical therapy because…where I work and the work I do, I am supposed to have foot pain…it comes with the territory. We also agreed that had I come in earlier, like when it first started, they would not have known what it was yet and told me to stay off my feet. Now that I am in the more advanced stages, I can’t cure it, but I can ease the pain with these exercises.
One of the issues with this thorn in my side situation, is that when I first stand; whether it be in the morning or from chair, I have to wait for the circulation and balance to kick in before I move. (To do so any earlier does not look pretty.) Once I establish that I am not going to fall down, usually only takes a few seconds, then I can move without too much inconvenience. The first few steps are the hardest, but as soon as the blood starts doing its thing…the steps get easier.
As I was sitting here trying to find today’s topic within this puzzle brain of mine, the dog became quite needy. She had had an accident last night and was apologizing, I think. Even though I kept reassuring her it was okay…she was not in trouble, I could feel her shaking as she laid her head on my lap. Finally, I got up and walked her outside so she could hear the birds, walk in wet grass, and then return to the house without nary a piddle. But she has been calm ever since.
With my foot, I can no longer walk the 3 to 5 miles I used to a couple of years ago. I got out of the habit for a number of reasons. One of which was my foot hurting. Thinking that once I get my shoe and foot issue resolved, my walks will return…two years later and still not walking. But I do think that I might be getting closer.
You should be halfway through your coffee and wondering where I am going with this. If I were you…I would be too. Just saying.
Years ago I was extremely solid in the church. Every Sunday. Every Wednesday. An occasional Thursday. Volunteer to teach or drive a bus. I was all in like Flynn. Then I wasn’t. I would like to tell you specifically what it was, but I do not remember. Periodically I would run through phases where I was back, but not to the degree as before. Then I would be out again. In. Out. In. Out.
Each time it got harder to go back. It was just easier to stay home. I don’t have to go to church to be a Christian. I know what I am supposed to do. I know where the rules are. There are plenty of options online for me to get my studies. Blah blah blah. Then one day, He came to me and asked me if I was done with my tantrum and was I ready to listen again. Really listen.
Much like how I must get my balance and blood moving in order to walk after sitting or lying down, I had to find my balance again in the church. I had to find my blood flow in my Christian steps. I had to sit on my head on my Father’s lap and apologize. Now, I must do the exercises that He has given me. I cannot cure the damage that I have done, but I can learn and use those experiences to help others. I can walk with my Father through the dew laden grass and listen to the birds sing in the coolness of the morning, inhaling the freshness of His love.
Everything that we do, whether we think so or not, has a purpose. My on again off again church attendance has purpose. My struggles with my temper has purpose. My desire to be but failing so many times to be obedient has purpose. Sometimes that purpose is for us, sometimes that purpose is so that we can witness to others.
Today I offer that you and I take a few moments to get our balance, get our blood moving in the right direction, our thoughts full of Him, and step out in faith to be who He has made us to be. The first few steps will most likely be ugly, but that is okay. Remember, not everything that is beautiful is good for you…remember yesterday’s post.
Be blessed today my friends.
