Beware of Altars Outside the Prayer & Word of God
An altar is a spiritual meeting point between man and the spiritual realm.
In the Bible, altars were built to worship God, seek His presence, and make sacrifices.
However, not every altar is from God. Many altars exist outside prayer, obedience, and the Word of God.
When people seek power, solutions, or blessings from altars that are not rooted in God’s Word, they open doors to spiritual bondage and deception.
God warns His people to beware of strange altars.
1. Altars Outside God Are Altars of Idolatry
Exodus 20:3–5
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
When people abandon prayer and the Word of God, they begin to depend on other spiritual sources such as:
Occult powers
Divination
Witchcraft
Traditional rituals
These are altars that compete with God.
Example:
King Jeroboam built an altar in Bethel to replace the true worship of God (1 Kings 12:28–30). That altar led Israel into sin.
Any altar that replaces God’s Word and prayer will lead to spiritual destruction.
2. Strange Altars Invite Strange Fire
Leviticus 10:1–2
“Nadab and Abihu offered strange fire before the Lord… and there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them.”
God rejected their offering because it was not according to His instruction.
Today, many people:
Look for shortcuts to miracles
Seek spiritual power without holiness
Depend on rituals instead of prayer
But God only honors what aligns with His Word.
3. Altars Outside God Bring Spiritual Bondage
Deuteronomy 18:10–12
“There shall not be found among you anyone that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire… or a consulter with familiar spirits.”
These practices establish evil altars that bring:
Generational curses
Spiritual oppression
Loss of peace
Distance from God
Many families suffer today because someone in their lineage raised ungodly altars.
4. God’s True Altar Is Built on Prayer and His Word
John 4:23–24
“The true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth.”
The true altar of God is established through:
Prayer
The Word of God
Holiness
Faith in God
When believers maintain these, they remain connected to God’s presence.
5. Destroy Every Strange Altar
Judges 6:25–26
God commanded Gideon to destroy the altar of Baal and build an altar unto the Lord.
Sometimes deliverance begins when believers:
Reject ungodly practices
Break covenant with strange powers
Return to God through prayer and repentance
Conclusion
Believers must be careful not to seek solutions from altars outside prayer and the Word of God.
Any altar that does not glorify God will eventually bring destruction.
Stay connected to the altar of prayer and the Word, because that is where true power and transformation come from.
Prayer Points
Every strange altar speaking against my life, be destroyed in Jesus’ name.
Lord, reconnect me to the altar of prayer and Your Word.
Every covenant made with ungodly altars in my family, break today in Jesus’ name.
Father, let Your altar of righteousness stand in my life forever.
