“I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 3:14 (CSB) Paul refuses to allow his past—whether his failures or accomplishments—to keep him from moving forward with Christ. His eyes are fixed on the goal, faithfully pursuing the life to which God has called him and looking toward the eternal prize ahead. This verse reminds us that the Christian life is not about where we started or how many times we have stumbled, but about continuing to move forward in faith. Keep your eyes on Christ, keep pressing forward, and don’t quit.

“The Lord does not delay his promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief; on that day the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved, and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed.” — 2 Peter 3:9–10 (CSB) God’s apparent delay is not forgetfulness or weakness—it is an expression of His patience and mercy, giving people opportunity to repent and turn to Him. Yet His patience should never be mistaken for the absence of coming judgment; Peter warns that the day of the Lord will arrive unexpectedly. These verses hold grace and judgment together: God patiently offers salvation today, but we are not promised tomorrow. They remind us to live ready, share the gospel faithfully, and never take God’s mercy for granted.

“For if, having escaped the world’s impurity through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in these things and defeated, the last state is worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy command delivered to them.” — 2 Peter 2:20–21 (CSB) Peter gives a serious warning about people who encounter the truth of Christ but later turn away and become entangled again in the corruption of the world. In the larger context, he is especially addressing false teachers whose lives and teachings reveal that they have rejected the truth they once knew. Greater knowledge brings greater responsibility, making deliberate rejection of God’s truth especially dangerous. This passage calls us to remain firmly rooted in Christ, allowing the truth we know to continually shape the way we believe and live.

“But even if he does not rescue us, we want you as king to know that we will not serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.” — Daniel 3:18 (CSB) Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego trusted that God was able to rescue them from the fiery furnace, but their faith was not dependent upon Him doing so. Their “even if” faith declared that God was worthy of their obedience regardless of the outcome. This verse reminds us that genuine faith is more than trusting God to give us what we want—it is trusting His character when the answer is not what we hoped for. Sometimes the greatest declaration of faith is simply, “Even if He doesn’t, I will still trust Him.”

“His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. By these he has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire.” — 2 Peter 1:3–4 (CSB) Peter reminds us that God has already provided everything we need to live a life that honors Him. Through knowing Christ, we receive His power, His promises, and the ability to grow beyond the sinful desires of this world. Spiritual growth is not accomplished through our strength alone; God supplies what we need as we trust Him and walk in obedience to His Word. His promises give us confidence that He is continually working within us, shaping us to become more like Christ.

They said, “Hasn’t the LORD brought us out of Egypt?” But now the LORD has abandoned us and handed us over to Midian.’” — Judges 6:13 (CSB) Gideon voices a question many believers have asked during difficult seasons: If God is with us, why is this happening? His circumstances made it difficult for him to see God’s presence, yet God had not forgotten him or His people. This verse reminds us that questions and struggles do not necessarily mean an absence of faith; sometimes they become the place where God begins to reveal what He is about to do. Even when we cannot see His hand, God is still at work.
