Is a birthday merely a worldly custom, or can it become an occasion that truly honors Christ?

You've celebrated every birthday you've ever had. But have you ever stopped to ask:

Paul wasn't speaking only about worship services or special religious occasions. He was talking about everything—ordinary moments, daily activities, celebrations, and yes, even birthdays.

    Here is the challenging truth:
If you're not celebrating your birthday to God's glory, you're not celebrating it according to His purpose. That may be difficult to hear, but it's a question every believer should consider.

The Birthday Checklist That Changes Everything
    — Look at the glass you're holding during your celebration.

Let's be honest. How many of us can confidently say that our last birthday celebration was truly centered on honoring Him?

This isn't meant to rob us of joy.
It's meant to sanctify our joy.

    Scripture gives us clear guidance.
    — To glorify God means:
    — To act with gratitude. Recognizing every breath and every year of life as a gift from Him.
    — To walk in humility. Refusing to make everything about ourselves.
    — To seek His approval. Valuing God's pleasure above likes, comments, and human praise.
    — To live in obedience. Aligning our choices with His Word.

This can drift into legalism. Scripture gives believers liberty in matters not explicitly forbidden, while calling us to honor God in all things.

    Romans 14:5–6 (KJV):
“One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it.”

    Colossians 2:16 (KJV):
“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:”

    1 Corinthians 10:23 (KJV):
“All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.”

    Romans 14:7–8 (KJV):

    1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (KJV):
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

True. But the Bible does command us to glorify God in everything we do. That part is not optional.

    1 Peter 4:11 (KJV):
“If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”

The Birthday Girl Who Forgot to Have Fun

Lily had been waiting for her birthday party for what felt like a hundred years. Actually, it had only been eleven months and twenty-nine days. But when you are a child waiting for your birthday, eleven months and twenty-nine days is practically forever. And today was finally the day!

Lily had planned everything. There were colorful balloons tied to the garden fence, flowers arranged around the picnic tables, games waiting to be played, and a beautiful birthday cake sitting safely beneath a little cake cover.

She had even made a special sign.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LILY! She stood back and admired everything. โ€œPerfect!โ€

Then she frowned. She walked over to the balloons. โ€œAre you all tied tightly?โ€ She tugged one. The balloon bounced. โ€œGood.โ€ She checked the cake. โ€œStill there.โ€ She checked the games. โ€œStill there.โ€

Miss Tillia watched as Lily checked everything in the garden. โ€œLily,โ€ she called, โ€œyour party doesn't begin for another hour.โ€

    โ€œI know!โ€

    โ€œYou've checked everything three times.โ€

    โ€œOnly three?โ€

Miss Tillia laughed. Lily giggled and went back to work. Soon the first guests arrived.

โ€œHappy birthday!โ€ Each of them handed her a present which she immediately put on the table she had set up just for presents.

โ€œThank you!โ€ Lily hugged her friends. Then looked over their shoulders. โ€œDid everyone get their party hat?โ€ She handed one to each child.

โ€œOkay! Now the games are over here." She watched as all her friends began to play.

"When we're done playing, we can enjoy a snack. The food is over there. Don't forget the lemonade." Everyone looked at the table with little sandwiches and chips.

"And we're going to have cake after presents, but don't touch the cake yet becauseโ€”โ€ She stopped.

All of her friends were staring at her.

    โ€œWhat?โ€

    โ€œYou're not playing.โ€

    โ€œOf course I am!โ€

โ€œNo, you've been telling everybody else what to do, but you haven't been joining us.โ€

Lily looked around. โ€œOh.โ€ She hurried over to the first game. โ€œIs everybody ready?โ€

They played a beanbag toss. Lily watched carefully. โ€œThat's one point!โ€ She straightened the beanbags. โ€œThat's two!โ€ She picked up one that had rolled away. โ€œOkay, everybody throw again!โ€

She noticed one of the balloons had come loose. โ€œOh no!โ€ She ran after it. She tied it back up. Then she noticed the lemonade pitcher was getting empty. She filled it. Then she noticed one of the children had dropped a napkin. She picked it up.

Then she checked the cake. Then the presents. Then the games. Then the balloons. Then the cake again.

Miss Tillia's leaves began to wiggle. Not from the wind. From laughter. โ€œLily,โ€ Miss Tillia said, โ€œwhen was the last time you had fun?โ€

Lily blinked. โ€œI am having fun.โ€

    โ€œAre you?โ€

    โ€œYes.โ€

    โ€œThen why haven't I seen you smile?โ€

Lily opened her mouth. Nothing came out. She looked around the garden. Everyone was laughing. Her friends were playing.

Someone had put a party hat on a garden statue. Two children were racing to see who could carry the most balloons. And one little boy was trying very hard to eat a cookie without getting the powdered sugar on his nose. He failed. Everybody laughed. Lily smiled. Then she looked at the cake.

โ€œThe cake!โ€ She started toward it. Miss Tillia's branches suddenly stretched across the path. Lily stopped. โ€œMiss Tillia?โ€

    โ€œYou forgot something.โ€

    โ€œWhat?โ€

    โ€œYour birthday.โ€

    โ€œMy birthday is right here!โ€

โ€œNo, dear. Your party is right here.โ€ Miss Tillia's leaves fluttered. โ€œBut the birthday girl seems to be missing.โ€

Lily looked around. โ€œIโ€™m right here!โ€

Miss Tillia shook her branches. โ€œNope.โ€

Lily giggled. โ€œWhat do I have to do to find her?โ€

Miss Tillia pointed one branch toward the children. โ€œStop checking.โ€

Lily looked at the party. โ€œBut what if something goes wrong?โ€

    โ€œSomething probably will.โ€

    Lily's eyes widened. โ€œWhat?!โ€

Miss Tillia laughed. โ€œThat's what makes parties interesting!โ€

Just thenโ€”POP! A balloon burst. Everyone jumped. Then they laughed. A little later, someone spilled lemonade. Everyone grabbed napkins. Then they laughed. One of the games didn't work the way Lily had planned. So the children invented a new game. And it was much sillier than Lily's original one.

Lily finally stopped trying to fix everything. She ran. She played. She laughed. She got frosting on her nose. She accidentally stepped on a balloon and jumped when it popped. She even wore the party hat that had somehow ended up upside down.

For the first time that day, she wasn't checking the cake. She wasn't checking the presents. She wasn't checking the games. She wasn't checking whether everyone else was having fun. She was having fun too.

When it was finally time for cake, Lily stood beside Miss Tillia and looked around at her friends. โ€œThis isn't exactly how I planned it.โ€
    Miss Tillia's leaves rustled. โ€œNo.โ€

    Lily smiled. โ€œIt's better.โ€

Miss Tillia's leaves danced happily. โ€œAnd what did you learn today, birthday girl?โ€

Lily thought for a moment. โ€œThat making everything perfect isn't as important as being there to enjoy it.โ€

    Miss Tillia laughed. โ€œAnd?โ€

Lily grinned. โ€œAnd sometimes the best parts of a party are the things that go wrong!โ€

Just then, the little boy with the frosting-covered nose sneezed. ACHOO! A tiny puff of powdered sugar flew through the air.
Everyone laughed. Lily laughed the hardest. Miss Tillia's branches swayed above them. Because sometimes the happiest memories aren't the ones where everything goes perfectly. They're the ones where everyone is together... laughing, playing, making a mess... and enjoying the moment they were given.

And Lily? She finally remembered that she wasn't just the one who planned the party.
She was the birthday girl. And birthday girls are supposed to have fun too!

  • Matthew 18:1-10

    The Importance of the Child.

Many churches and believers have no clue how urgent and important this passage is. Jesus has just cast a demon from a child and that child is recovering from that possession. Is it possible that when Jesus says โ€œthis childโ€ he is discussing the child from whom He had just cast the demon from because they are all still standing there when the disciples decide to bring up the subject of who the greatest in the Kingdom will be? Absolutely.

Jesus is warning them with the strongest type warning that exists. He tells them that unless they have the humility of a child, they won't even get close to God's kingdom. A change has to occur from within to make that possible because a child won't be having the pride and stubbornness to fight against God that a sinful adult would.

But one thing the progressive churches choose to fail to recognize is this: there is a very deliberate focused choice on the part of confessed Satanists to target children for sexual or sacrificial uses. And part of that use has been the inclusion of homosexuality into modern American life. It is seen as โ€˜evilโ€™ to exclude gays from public discourse and discrimination to call it a sin.

Even now there are believers being arrested in the UK for even standing in prayer publicly, but for a parade of LGBTQ dancers to dance through the streets yelling โ€œWE'RE HERE. WE'RE QUEER. AND WE'RE COMING FOR YOUR CHILDREN!โ€ is perfectly acceptable.

If that doesn't show you that the source for all these political pro-gay pushes of the last 50 years were all from the same source, Satan, nothing will convince you. Satan's strategy has always been found in aiming for the youth, the future of a nation.

The elite power structure of our nation, our world, is predicated on a set of pagan demonic influences. To deny the immense power that a set of elite pedophiles clearly has in this country, in this world, is ignoring evidence that has been slapping us in the face since the days of the Clinton presidency.

The worship of Satan has not changed from the beginning. Infants are offered up and murdered in rituals that the leaders of our nation participate in. In ancient times it was a bronze statue that was heated white hot before an infant was placed upon it and burned alive. Today, Satan demands a sacrifice of the eldest child and many of the Baphomet worshipping elites offer that child in dedication to the service of Baphomet.

The child is either made a blood offering in ritual sacrifice at birth (as in ancient times) and is eaten alive or is made a servant of Baphomet, requiring the castration of the eldest son. Does the fervor behind the trans-ideology begin to make sense yet amongst the political and Hollywood elites?

It is Satanic. It is evil. And Jesus said the world would be a better place if those people would be launched into the deepest part of the sea with a ton-sized rock tied to their necks. These are the people who a generation ago said all they wanted was a cake and now are actively marching through the public streets chanting about being after the children.

It's always been about gaining access to the children. From the push to legalize gay adoptions to the increased efforts to dress in drag and read to children it has ALWAYS been about abusing kids. And Jesus tried to warn us. Our stance against homosexuality is for the express purpose of protecting the children because they have shown a consistent propensity of targeting our children.

It's time to stop attempting to avoid the subject in order to not offend people. Children are being raped, victimized and it's allowed to continue for fear of angering a trans-activist. The Hell that awaits for those who rape children, including former President's, movie stars etc is one that surely will cause eternal regret on their part. Jesus said it'd be better if the ones who are out to victimize children were being actively drowned In the sea.

If your church affirms trans-kids it's because someone at the church wants to rape them. Period. And Jesus says that God will give extra consideration toward their punishment because the angels watch them closely. So the cowards who refuse to stand on biblical teaching to appease will suffer the same fate as those who actively did abuse children. And the followers of that โ€˜churchโ€™ will endure the same Hell the rapists will.

Do you understand the warnings now? How important it is to adhere to scripture rather than cave to current political pressure in the interests of not offending pedophiles? Do you see that Satan is working overtime because he knows his time is short? Do you realize that evil doesn't even hide anymore?

If even just 10 years ago you had said that there would be a time when grown adult professionals would be too afraid to admit that a man couldn't get pregnant you would have been laughed out of the room. If 5 years ago a male high school student had dressed as a girl to enter the girls restroom, then raped a female student, and the high school had transferred him instead of arresting him where he then raped another female student all to avoid offending this โ€œtrans-studentโ€ and/or his litigious parentsโ€ฆoh wait, this did happen 5 years ago.

The reason that this society has degenerated so quickly into utter insanity is all because Satan is consolidating his efforts. He knows Jesus is on His Way and in a matter of seconds it will be over for him. The current idea of gays aligning their ideology to be so anti-god that they plan trips in support of Hamas or Gaza over Israel or God's chosen people betrays the truth.

Both Palestinian Muslims and Gay activists hate Israel, because Israel is the nation God chose to bless the world through. But Palestinian Muslims execute homosexuals regularly. So why do the gays align with a group who would murder them? Because the source of both is Satan, they are aligning against God. If you want to know if you are on the ungodly side of an argument consider who ELSE supports that view.

Join us today for our 24 hour prayer and fasting day at Lordsbook on the Porch Ministries page.

[1] At that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, โ€œWho then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?โ€ [2] And He called a child to Himself and set him among them, [3] and said, โ€œTruly I say to you, unless you change and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. [4] So whoever will humble himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. [5] And whoever receives one such child in My name, receives Me; [6] but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it is better for him that a heavy millstone be hung around his neck, and that he be drowned in the depths of the sea. [7] โ€œWoe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to the person through whom the stumbling block comes! [8] โ€œAnd if your hand or your foot is causing you to sin, cut it off and throw it away from you; it is better for you to enter life maimed or without a foot, than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire. [9] And if your eye is causing you to sin, tear it out and throw it away from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fiery hell. [10] โ€œSee that you do not look down on one of these little ones; for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven.

  • Good morning to everyone. Grace and Peace be with you.

What do you do when God gives you an assignment?

Do you jump at the chance to be obedient? Do you evaluate the circumstance? Do you weigh the good and the bad? Do you ‘pray’ about it … but don’t really pray about it? Do you seek counsel from others? Do you go to Scripture to find out if what you ‘think’ you heard aligns with the Word? Or …….

Do you alter what you were told to do so that you can have your cake and eat it too?

See, the last is what tends to hem us all up. We get the message, then we pray on it … right then, then probably forget about it when a genie does not appear with the rainbow and glitter answer. We open our Bibles with the intent to align it with God’s word but get distracted. We definitely weigh the good and the bad … not because of the victory that awaits, but what it will do TO us. But most of all, and unfortunately, it is quite true … we figure out a way to do what He said but limit the uncofortableness of the task. That is the ugly truth. 9 times out of 10 (my estimation) we hear, we test, we adjust, we deliver the new plan. Not all God’s plan, but a mix of what WE think will work.

I am guilty of this very thing—more times than I care to remember.

The Holy Spirit laid on my heart to hold a contest … over a month ago. Yes, over a month ago. Just last night I started it. In that last month, I could use the events, the hospital stay and a plethora of other excuses; however, the bottom line is that I was dragging my feet. I was trying to sit on the fence about the ‘how’ instead of listening to His guidance. Last night, while mowing, I heard Him loud and clear. Last night I finally obeyed. To His plan, not mine, not a mix … His Plan.

Many times we think we can do a portion of what He is asking us to do and it will count. That is the enemy using logic against us. “You did the ‘important part’; you talked to them. That is what He told you to do, right?” When in fact all you did was give them the morning greeting as you do every day. Nothing more. You did not listen or heed His request, because you could not be bothered by this person who has a reputation, or an odor, or dresses differently … you simply made your morning greeting a little more palatable.

What are you truly afraid of when He asks you to commit to His plan? Failure? Resentment? Disappointment? Rejection? You do realize that these are all from the enemy, right? Traps for you to stay hidden in, buried in, covered over in … locked in. As long as you allow these things to lead you, the enemy has you right where he wants you … on his side.

Now, some would argue that since you haven’t chosen either side, then you are safe. That is absolutely FALSE. Not choosing is choosing. But not choosing to follow the Holy Spirit, you ARE choosing to follow the enemy.

Today I would like you, I would encourage you strongly, to go to Him in meaningful prayer and ask Him to come upon you and help you with that task that He has placed on your heart that you are scared of. Surrender your apprehensions and fears to Him and take the first step to obedience. When you do, there is a peace from pleasing the Father of Life that surpasses all the anxiety that the enemy throws at you. This I have seen. This I have experienced as well.

    Be blessed.

** “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.” – Matthew 6:24

“Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” – James 1:8

“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” – Revelation 3:15-16

  • Continuation chapter 3.2
Jesus Himself warned about the internal bake-off when He said, "Out of the heart come evil thoughtsโ€”murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander." (Matthew 15:19). He didn't say these things come from the devil, though the devil is happy to RSVP to the bake-off and bring a plus-one. He said they come from the heart. The same heart that sings worship songs. The same heart that gets goosebumps during the sermon. The same heart that just volunteered for the nursery. That heart is fully capable of producing evil thoughts and then presenting them as noble, justified, and even godly. It's a factory, and the machinery runs on emotion, and the quality control department is on permanent vacation.
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽBut here's the punchline, the final twist that makes the whole thing so beautifully ridiculous: once you see the factory for what it is, you are not condemned by it. You are liberated from it. You are not a terrible Christian because your heart produces garbage; you are a normal human being with a deceitful heart that needs to be supervised like a toddler with a permanent marker. The problem is not that the thoughts arise; the problem is when you believe them, bake them into a cake, and then deliver the cake to your neighbor with a note that says, "Thus saith the Lord." The freedom comes when you can watch the thought arise, observe the emotion stirring, and say, "Ah, there's that old recipe again. I recognize the smell. That's the self-pity soufflรฉ. That's the righteous anger casserole. That's the lust lasagna. Hello, old friends. You may sit in the corner while I choose not to eat you." And then, instead of indulging the illusion, you do what the wise man does: you hold it back, you examine it, and if necessary, you throw the whole dish in the trash and order takeout from the Word of God.
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽThe next time you feel a surge of holy certainty, a rush of righteous fury, a wave of self-justifying sadness, pause. Ask yourself: Did I just bake this? Is this from the divine kitchen, or did I just raid my own emotional pantry and turn last week's hurt into this morning's prophecy? If you can laugh at the possibility that you've been pranked by your own heart, you are already free. And if you can't laugh yet, don't worryโ€”the realization is coming, and when it does, it will be the funniest thing you've ever tasted. Even funnier than a man who thought his pizza dream was the Third Great Awakening. And that, my friend, is a joy no illusion can manufacture, and no deception can steal. It is the taste of actual freedom, and it needs no frosting at all.

  • Continuation chapter 3 3.1
The book of Proverbs, that ancient collection of wisdom and one-liners, gives us the antidote: "A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back." (Proverbs 29:11). A fool gives full vent. He opens the valve and lets the emotional steam blast out in every direction, scorching everyone in the vicinity, and then he calls it "transparency." The wise man, on the other hand, holds it backโ€”not to suppress it forever, but to examine it first. He looks at the cake and says, "Before I serve this to everyone and insist it's from God, let me check the ingredients. Was this anger baked with love, or was it fried in last week's resentment? Was this righteous fury, or am I just tired and hungry and someone looked at me funny?" The wise man puts a pause between the feeling and the action. The fool just hits "send" on the email he wrote while the emotion was still a fresh, steaming loaf of nonsense.
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽNow, the truly spectacular part of this whole theatrical production is that the illusions are not random. They have a specific purpose. They are designedโ€”by you, for youโ€”to protect your fragile ego from the unbearable truth that you might be wrong, or selfish, or in need of genuine change. The illusion is a bodyguard hired by your pride. It stands at the door of your consciousness and says, "No, you can't come in here with that nonsense about humility and repentance. This person is a victim! A hero! A misunderstood prophet!" And the emotion that the illusion generates is the bodyguard's paycheck. As long as you stay angry, the bodyguard stays employed. As long as you feel sorry for yourself, the bodyguard gets a bonus. As long as you're right and they're wrong, the bodyguard gets a corner office with a view.
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽSo how do you fire the bodyguard? How do you shut down the bake-off and stop eating the emotional cake that's making you spiritually obese? You do the one thing the illusion absolutely cannot survive: you laugh at it. Not a bitter, cynical laugh. A genuine, delighted, "oh my goodness, I've done it again, I actually convinced myself that my indigestion was a prophetic word" kind of laugh. You step back from the emotion and say, "There goes my heart again, being deceitful above all things. What a rascal. What a brilliant little con artist. Look at it go, spinning that same old story about how I'm the victim and they're the villain. It's almost adorable, like a hamster trying to operate a forklift." And when you laugh, the illusion loses its power. It cannot thrive in the light of genuine, humble humor. It needs you to take it seriously. It needs you to believe the drama. The moment you chuckle, the whole set collapses, and you see the strings and the plywood and the guy in the back operating the smoke machine.
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽKing David, who was no stranger to emotional chaosโ€”the man once danced nearly naked in public and also wrote some of the most anguished poetry in historyโ€”had a habit of talking to his own soul. He would say, "Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God." (Psalm 42:5). Notice what he's doing. He's not taking his downcast soul on a road trip of despair. He's interrogating it. He's cross-examining the witness. "Why are you downcast? Give me a reason. Is it a good reason, or did you just eat bad spiritual pizza again?" He's refusing to let the emotion drive the bus without showing its license. And then he redirects the soul to hope in God. Not to hope in the resolution of the immediate problem, not to hope in being proven right, but to hope in the character of the Almighty. That's not suppression; that's redirection. That's saying to the emotional cake, "Thank you for your submission, but I'm on a diet of actual truth now."

  • โ€ŽChapter Three: The Great Self-Deception Bake-Off: How to Frost a Lie and Call It Prophecy
    โ€Ž
โ€Žโ€œThe heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?โ€ โ€” Jeremiah 17:9
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽNow, that is not a verse youโ€™d want embroidered on a throw pillow. The prophet Jeremiah, who was never invited to many parties, drops this bombshell with the casualness of someone announcing the weather. Your heartโ€”that warm, fuzzy center of emotion you've been taught to "follow" like a GPSโ€”is, in fact, a pathological liar with a doctorate in spin. It is not just occasionally mistaken; it is deceitful above all things. Above a used chariot salesman. Above a politician promising lower taxes. Above a toddler with chocolate on his face insisting he did not eat the cake. Your heart is the most brilliant con artist you will ever meet, and it lives inside your chest, rent-free, forging your signature on checks you didn't even know you had.
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽAnd yet, we treat this internal fraudster as if it were the Holy Spirit's personal secretary. "The heart wants what it wants," we sigh, as if that's a profundity and not the battle cry of every disastrous decision since Eve looked at a piece of fruit and thought, "That looks like a good idea, and I feel strongly that it's fine."
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽLet's talk about what's actually happening when you feel something so intensely that it must be true. You are not receiving a divine download. You are attending the Great Self-Deception Bake-Off, a competition where your own mind whips up a three-tiered cake of false reality, frosts it with emotion, and then serves it to you on a silver platter while a tiny voice in your head screams, "Bon appรฉtit! This is definitely from God!"
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽThe recipe is deceptively simple. You take one genuine factโ€”a real hurt, a legitimate desire, a valid frustrationโ€”and you place it on the counter. So far, so good. This is the flour. But then, instead of following a sane recipe, you hand the kitchen over to a crew of sous-chefs named Assumption, Projection, and Catastrophic Thinking. Assumption dumps in an entire bag of "I know what they were thinking." Projection adds a heaping cup of "This is just like that time in 2007." And Catastrophic Thinking, wearing a chef's hat made of old newspapers, throws in a gallon of "This will never get better and I will die alone and my funeral will be sparsely attended." Mix thoroughly. Bake in the oven of rumination at 400 degrees of anxiety. Frost with a thick layer of righteous indignation or self-pity, depending on your preferred flavor profile. And there you have it: a magnificent, towering cake of Illusion ร  la Mode, garnished with a sprig of "I'm pretty sure God told me."
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽYou sit down, take a bite, and the flavors explode. The anger tastes like power. The self-pity tastes like a warm hug from yourself. The lust tastes like a preview of heaven that is, in fact, a timeshare presentation for hell. And because the flavor is so intense, so vivid, so consuming, you conclude that the cake must be true. "I feel this strongly, therefore it is valid. God gave me taste buds, didn't He? This is confirmation." And you go back for a second slice, and a third, until you're lying on the floor in a sugar coma of self-deception, wondering why your life has turned into a cautionary tale.
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽThe Apostle James, who had clearly witnessed a few bake-offs in his day, described the process with surgical precision: "Each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death." (James 1:14-15). Did you catch that? Desire conceives. It has a baby. And the baby is sin, and when that baby grows up, it becomes death. The whole thing starts with a tiny little desireโ€”a spark, a wisp, a passing thoughtโ€”and if you midwife it with enough emotional intensity, it eventually births a full-grown monster that eats your life. James is essentially saying, "Your feelings are not a prophet; they are a maternity ward for disaster." And you, my friend, are the one pushing.
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽBut here's where the comedy curdles into something so absurd you have to laugh or you'll cry: we then take that monster baby, dress it in a little suit of Bible verses, and present it to the world as a word from the Lord. "God is leading me to leave this church," we declare, when in fact the pastor's sermon stepped on our toes and we felt convicted, but conviction feels uncomfortable, so we rebranded the discomfort as "discernment." "The Lord is telling me to speak truth into this situation," we announce, right before we unleash a torrent of unsolicited criticism that burns down a friendship, and we walk away feeling like Jeremiah at the gate, when in fact we were just a jerk with a vocabulary.
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽImagine a man who eats an entire extra-large pizza with extra garlic and anchovies, followed by a milkshake, right before bed. He falls into a fitful sleep, and in the depths of the night, his stomach begins to churn and boil like a cauldron in a witch's kitchen. A dream arisesโ€”a wild, vivid, Technicolor dream full of dragons, floods, and talking donkeys. He wakes up in a cold sweat, clutching his abdomen, and gasps, "A vision! A prophetic vision! God is warning me of impending doom and possibly a dietary restriction!" He immediately texts his prayer group: "Urgent: I believe the Lord is calling us to a season of fasting and apocalyptic readiness. I saw a donkey and a flood. Repent!" The prayer group, equally susceptible to the Bake-Off, responds with fire emojis and "Amen, brother, I felt a shift." Meanwhile, the real prophecy was the anchovies, and the only shift needed was in his late-night eating habits. The man has mistaken his gastric distress for divine revelation. And before you laugh too hard, ask yourself: how many of your "leadings" were just spiritual indigestion? How many of your "words from God" were just the echo of your own anxieties bouncing around an empty room, dressed in a robe and sandals?
    โ€Ž
โ€ŽThe internal bake-off is fueled by a simple, terrible engine: the illusion that intensity equals authenticity. If I feel it hotly, it must be holy. This is the spiritual equivalent of mistaking a car alarm for an angelic choir. The car alarm is loud, it demands attention, it rattles the windowsโ€”but it's not a herald of the Second Coming. It's just a malfunctioning sensor on a Toyota Camry. Your emotions are the Camry. The alarm is going off. And you're on your knees in the parking lot, weeping, "Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening," while a security guard taps you on the shoulder and says, "Sir, that's just your own panic. Also, your lights are on."

And there you have it: a magnificent, towering cake of Illusion ร  la Mode, garnished with a sprig of "I'm pretty sure God told me." โ€Ž โ€ŽYou sit down, take a bite, and the flavors explode. โ€Ž โ€ŽThe Apostle James, who had clearly witnessed a few bake-offs in his day, described the process with surgical precision: "Each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. โ€Ž โ€ŽBut here's where the comedy curdles into something so absurd you have to laugh or you'll cry: we then take that monster baby, dress it in a little suit of Bible verses, and present it to the world as a word from the Lord. โ€Ž โ€ŽImagine a man who eats an entire extra-large pizza with extra garlic and anchovies, followed by a milkshake, right before bed. โ€Ž โ€ŽThe internal bake-off is fueled by a simple, terrible engine: the illusion that intensity equals authenticity. Also, your lights are on." โ€Ž

  • Good morning to everyone. Grace and Peace be with you.

Look at me being so late this morning. Last night a story came to me and I was up until 1 writing it. I am trying to put together an anthology of my short stories, but the rewrites have proven to be a bit more challenging than I had expected. Writing a fresh new idea made me think that I should just start writing more short stories from my own thoughts and that will become the anthology. If I want to make it for the challenge that I am in, Novel 90 – a novel in 90 days, I have a little work to do. I am only at like 20k words or so, looks like I need to use my imagination…hahaha.

I had pretty much written off being able to finish in time, thanks to a busy fest schedule, doctor appointments, and let’s not forget the hospital stay…haha. However, last night I was in my club meeting for the challenge, and the overwhelming energy and enthusiasm was incredible. I am not the only one who may not make it, but the encouragement to not stop and see what happens … lit a fire for me.

Have you ever started a project thinking that it would be a piece of cake, only for it to turn sideways? Then you changed your mind on some of the parameters. Add to that new ideas and concepts that popped up in the midst of just trying to do the first idea. Haha. Yeah, it can be a fun time trying to stay on track and finish on time.

As I think about this particular book project, I think about the idea that I had originally and where I am headed now. Not completely different; however, not MY idea. Totally God’s. Because I have set MY thoughts aside and opened my eyes to His desire, I am confident that I have several new stories coming to make this anthology work.

When we are willing to step out of God’s way … it is amazing the direction that He will lead us. A bit scary sometimes, but the result is priceless and so rewarding. Today, go to Him in prayer and discuss the projects in your life. Open your heart and mind to see and feel where He is leading. Then … with each step of faith … follow His direction. The project will come together and the outcome will be wondiferous.

    Be blessed today my friends.
