• Matthew 8:5-13 A Gentiles's Faith

Jesus has healed at this point at least the leper. His sermon on the mount had gained attention and word of who Jesus is had spread even to the Gentile population. A couple of things about this. First, hostility between the Roman guard of which this man is a part was at an all time high. His act of going to meet Jesus could have caused a great deal of trouble for him.

But based on all the previous acts of Jesus, this centurion knew without a doubt that Jesus could heal his servant and to do so with a word. Second, we should know that this guard knew he was under authority of the Roman Empire, but he recognized Jesus as having authority over even the Roman Empire.

Jesus's reaction at this man's faith was more of a lesson for the apostles than it was actual surprise. The Jewish believers in Jesus still believed that only Jews would be saved, it was an attitude that despite this lesson was affecting their outreach to the Gentile nations.

This same attitude remained until the great public rebuke of Peter by Paul for refusing to eat with Gentiles when ‘certain’ Jewish Christians were present. These believers held a certain amount of power over Peter. But only because Peter allowed it. Peter was a flawed man, as we all are but he never claimed to be anything more than a fellow elder.

But Jesus makes the point of this outburst in the final verses. He's saying that these 100% Israelis, the sons of the kingdom will no longer be in favor and will be in Hell weeping and gnashing their teeth. These two words give us the attitude of those in Hell.

There will be the “weepers” those are the ones who weep eternally because they missed salvation by inches. The cultural Christians who grew up in church hearing about Hell but never taking it seriously. The progressive believers who refused to speak on sin, judgment because, love.

Then there will be the “gnashers” These will be those who are angry and will curse God forever. And Jesus makes the point that many from all corners of the world will sit down to eat with Him in the Kingdom long before any of the nation of Israel will.

Sadly, there is the demonically inspired teaching in many churches that being a faithful Jew today is like a second path to salvation. Many denominations teach that witnessing to Jews is a waste of time because God Himself will bring them into the kingdom at some later date, like at some point after the Rapture or during the Tribulation.

THIS IS A LIE! Outside of Jesus, there is no salvation. It doesn't matter that a person is a direct descendant of Abraham, Issac and Jacob, Peter knew it, but learned little from Jesus's words that day. Even the apostles had weaknesses. They were not ‘super saintly’ people with halos around them. They were humans, sinners saved by grace through faith.

Let's face it, it was a little racist of Peter and the other Messianic Jews to withdraw from fellowship with the Gentiles. It took a former Christian persecutor and murderer of believers saved by Jesus to teach these people how to treat Gentile believers.

How's our faith? Are there people we hesitate to accept into our fellowship? Former homosexuals? Former addicts? A Certain race? That's something we must deal with in our own lives. Pray that God will remove that hesitancy and place a burden on our hearts to reach them, to love them. A Gentiles’ faith gave them a lesson they weren't aware that they needed. And it gives us a glimpse into the humanity of the Apostles.

    Matthew 8:5-13

[5] And when Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, begging Him, [6] and saying, “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, terribly tormented.” [7] Jesus *said to him, “I will come and heal him.” [8] But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed. [9] For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.” [10] Now when Jesus heard this, He was amazed and said to those who were following, “Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel. [11] And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven; [12] but the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” [13] And Jesus said to the centurion, “Go; it shall be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.

  • Pastor Robin Stephen Aldrich:
PLEASE don’t take this as criticism, but I had to address a sentence in your blog. It was too much for a comment.
About the statement : ‘Science has no equipment to handle relationship with God.’
Science may not can explain the RELATIONSHIP with God, but it can prove His hand upon creation. Look at the mathematical regularity in the planets being set apart in ‘astronomical units.’ (see picture)
Even atheistic scientists have had to admit it.
“Now we see how the astronomical evidence leads to a biblical view of the origin of the world. The details differ, but the essential elements in the astronomical and biblical accounts of genesis are the same: the chain of events leading to man commence suddenly and sharply at a definite moment in time, in a flash of light and energy" (Jastrow; God and the Astronomers, 14).
"The scientists pursuit of the past ends in the moment of creation. This is an exceedingly strange development, unexpected by all but theologians. They have always accepted the word of the Bible: `In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth'" (Jastrow, God and the Astronomers, 115).
"That there are what I or anyone would call supernatural forces at work is now, I think, a scientifically proven fact" (Jastrow; Christianity Today,8-6-83, p. 15)
The anthropic principle is the most interesting development next to the proof of the creation, and it is even more interesting because it seems to say that science itself has proven, as a hard fact, that this universe was made, was designed, for man to live in. It is a very theistic result" (Jastrow, Christianity Today NORAH WAFUBWA , 17).
Astronomer Victor J. Stenger: "The universe exploded out of nothingness" (Free Inquiry, Winter, 1992-93, 13).
(there was nothing, and bang—there was something!)
“It is not to be conceived that mere mechanical causes could give birth to so many regular motions, since the comets range over all parts of the heavens in very eccentric orbits.... This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being" ("Scholium," 369).
    -Sir Issac Newton

The Universe was Fine-Tuned for Human Life
    1. 21 % of oxygen in air is just right for human life. *
    2. Gravitational force is perfect for life to exist.
    3. Distance from the sun provides the right heat for life.
    4. Expansion rate of universe is just right for life.
    5. Thickness of earth’s crust is the correct amount for life.
    6. Tilt of the earth offers the best condition for life.
    7. The speed of light is proper amount for life.
    8. The strong nuclear force holds the atoms together.
    9. The distance between stars is necessary for life.
    10. The cosmological constant (energy density of space)
is minutely right for matter to exist.
    11. The right amount of seismic activity is needed for life.
    12. The position of Jupiter protects life on earth.

    Microbiologist Michael Behe:
"No one at Harvard University, no one at the National Institutes of Health, no member of the National Academy of Sciences, no Nobel prize winner--no one at all can give a detailed account of how the cilium, or vision, or blood clotting, or any complex biochemical process might have developed in a Darwinian fashion." "Other examples… abound, including aspects of DNA reduplication, electron transport, telomere synthesis, photosynthesis, transcription regulation, and more" (Behe, Darwin’s Black Box, 187, 160).
"The conclusion of intelligent design flows naturally from the data itself--not from sacred books or sectarian beliefs. Inferring that biochemical systems were designed by an intelligent agent is a humdrum process that requires no new principles of logic or science…. Life on earth at its most fundamental level, in its most critical components, is the product of intelligent activity" (Behe, 183).

Or the universal appearance of the Fibonacci Spiral, sometimes called the Golden Spiral. Or the fact that leaves appear on branches in a Fibonacci Sequence, in odd numbers.
n . From Astronomy (Anthropic Principle)
    – a. Anticipatory design shows an intelligent Designer.
    – b. Human life shows anticipatory design.
    c. Hence, human life shows an intelligent Designer
    Teleological Argument:
n A. From Astronomy (Anthropic Principle)
    – 1. Anticipatory design shows an intelligent designer.
    – 2. Human life shows anticipatory design.
    – 3. Hence, human life shows an intelligent designer.
    n B. From Micro Biology (Argument 1)
    – 1. Specified complexity has an intelligent designer.
    – 2. First life had specified complexity.
    – 3. Hence, first life had an intelligent designer.

    The Reactions of Some Scientists:
Arthur Eddington: "Philosophically, the notion of a beginning of the present order of Nature is repugnant to me…. I should like to find a genuine loophole" (in Heeren, Show Me God, 81).
Einstein: “This circumstance [of an expanding Universe] irritates me." And "To admit such possibilities seems senseless" Why? "I believe in Spinoza's [pantheistic] God, who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists" (in Jastrow, God and the Astronomers, 28).
Robert Jastrow: "There is a kind of religion in science. It is the religion of a person who believes there is order and harmony in the universe.... There is no first cause.... This religious faith of the scientists is violated by the discovery that the world had a beginning under conditions in which the known laws of physics are not valid, and as a product of forces or circumstances we cannot discover. When that happens, the scientist has lost control" (GA 113-114).
Harvard’s Richard Lewontin: “We take the side of science in spite of the patent absurdity of some of its constructs… because we have a prior commitment to materialism. It is not that the methods and institutions of science somehow compel us to accept a materialistic explanation of the phenomenal world but, on the contrary, that we are forced by our a priori adherence to material causes…. Moreover that materialism is absolute for we cannot allow a divine foot in the door” (New York Review of Books, 1/9/96).
"The scientists pursuit of the past ends in the moment of creation. This is an exceedingly strange development, unexpected by all but theologians. They have always accepted the word of the Bible: `In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth'" (Jastrow, God and the Astronomers, 115).
    Conclusion:
But God does exist (as the evidence shows from):
    1. The beginning of the universe.
    2. The intelligent design of life.
    3. The moral law
    4. The need for God.
    Therefore, —
    1. Miracles are possible
    2. Truth is absolute
    3. Morality is absolute
    4. The Bible is credible
    5. Life has ultimate meaning
Objection: Things could have happened by chance, not by design.
Answer: First, the chances are virtually zero. Second, science is not based on chance but on regularity which demands an intelligent cause of life. Third, chance is not a cause. The only causes are natural forces are intelligent ones. And life needs an intelligent cause.
So, my point is don’t reject science. True science, and honest scientists, prove the existence of God because the mathematical regularity, and how everything is fine-tuned, cannot have happened by chance. Many top-level scientists have come to faith in God by the science itself, but their voices are suppressed.
The word says that God shows Himself in creation. Science is a study of what He created. It’s not evil. Evil scientists aren’t always honest.
I’ve been meaning to record my apologetics class and put it on my video platforms. I’ll try to work on that next year. This year has been busy.

  • More Spiritual Warfare - Part 3

Back to 2 Cor. 11:13-15. Notice what Paul says, he says his [Satan's] ministers can be transformed as the ministers of righteousness. Transformed. Now that Greek word transform means to change your form or your appearance.
Now you say, well that's probably the same thing Paul talked about in Romans 12 about not being conformed to the world but be transformed. But here transformed is a different Greek word altogether. And that word simply means to change one thing for another. Don't be conformed to the world but change your thinking into another way which is in the mind. He goes on to say be transformed in thinking. So he's not talking about transforming a physical appearance.
But Paul here in second Corinthians is. So I proposed this last time and I'll propose it again as I think even more that is it possible that the principalities and powers as supernatural beings can change their form and take on human form.
Nowhere in the Bible does it say they can't. And indications in the Old Testament describe where angels come down in the form of men. Three angels came to Abraham and ate with him. How can angels eat unless they change their form into a human form? I think it's possible.
And so, should it be any marvel to us if Satan's servants change their form into a human form and preach false doctrine? I believe it's possible. I think Paul is saying it's not only possible, it was happening. And we need to be aware of that. Satan is so at odds with us. He hates this message we preach. He hates losing people to the kingdom of His dear Son [meaning Jesus]. And he goes so far as to have his servants change their form into humans.
Now, I know that seems like quite a stretch, but you know, we believe all sorts of supernatural stuff. The virgin birth, explain that to me. How does God put a seed into a woman and create a human being who happens to be God? Well, you say God's God. God can do anything. Well, what about Isaac? Isaac was a supernatural creation in the womb of Sarah.
[He's called the only begotten of Abraham and Sarah or of Abraham, which truth be told, Abraham had a baby before Isaac. So Issac wasn't the only begotten son of Abraham. Which brings us to the point that the word “only begotten” doesn't mean the only person born from him. it means one of a kind, unique. Jesus is the unique, one-of-a-kind son of God and so was Isaac one of a kind son of Abraham, a miracle.]
And there's other things that we just take in passing when we read the Bible. Remember the passage where Moses stands in front of Pharaoh and says, "Let my people go and you've got these Egyptian priests around him who take their staff, put it on the ground, and it turns into a snake. How did they do that? I used to think maybe they somehow hypnotized a real snake to just be kind of stiff, but no. It's a piece of wood that they're able to turn into a snake. So, were these Egyptian priests really supernatural beings with the power to do that?
Now, also interesting is Moses does the same thing. He changes his stick into a snake. Now, believe you me, he wasn't walking around with a hypnotized real snake in his hand or Aaron's rod. They're able to do that to change the physical form of something. And we take that just in passing and move along.
But when I tell you that Satan's ministers can transform themselves into human form, I think it's possible. Not only possible, Paul says it's possible and they were doing it.
Now that word transformed there in 2 Corinthian, what Satan's angels or servants are doing, is the same word used in Philippians 3:21, where Paul says, "Who shall change our vile body that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body?" Now, is that body being changed into another form? Yes. The word change is the same word transformed that Satan's ministers do. Our body is going to be changed from corruptible to incorruptible. And in like manner Satan's ministers/deacons change their vile bodies into human form. All to keep people from being saved.
Now that doesn't seem to set well with Christians in our enlightened, rational worldview. But we need to believe what the Bible says regardless of what we think is possible. The battle over the souls of humankind is that important, is that serious.
More Spiritual Warfare - Part 3 Back to 2 Cor. • YHWH-Jireh יְהוָה יִרְאֶה. (The Lord Will Provide)
    Genesis 22:13-14 (NIV):
Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide (YHWH-Jireh) . And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided."
As God provided for Abraham a sacrifice so he provides for us a sacrifice in the person of Jesus Christ.
Around the year 2100 BC and 1900 BC Isaac ask the Question where is the lamb?
Genesis 22:7 (NIV):Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, "Father? "Yes, my son?" Abraham replied. "The fire and wood are here," Isaac said, "but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"
It is interesting that a ram and not a lamb was found at that time to take the place of Issac for the lamb was not yet to revealed.
And after 2,000 years in 27 AD we was to receive the answer from John the Baptist saying here is the lamb.
    John 1:29 (NIV):
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"
    John 1:36 (NIV):
When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!"
As to say to us this is the Lamb which God provided which God is to use to take away our sins. And as a Lamb he came and died for our sins without a word of compliant of why a sinless Saviour was to die for us who are so vial and polluted in sin.
Isaiah 53:7 (New American Standard Bible):
"He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth."
When ready to complaint of what you are lacking remind yourself what God had provided and the price it cost him for those undeserving sinners like ourselves .
