HOW DID DINOSAURS SURVIVE THE FLOOD?

One of the most common objections to the biblical account of Noah's Flood is this: If dinosaurs lived alongside humans, how could they have fit on the Ark?

Many people assume the Ark could never have held dinosaurs because they picture only the largest species such as Tyrannosaurus rex, Diplodocus, Triceratops, or Stegosaurus. However, that assumption overlooks several important facts.

First and foremost, Scripture tells us that God brought representatives of every land-dwelling, air-breathing animal onto the Ark.

    Genesis 7:14-15

"They and every beast after his kind... every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind... and every fowl after his kind..."

"And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life."

If the Bible is God's inerrant Word, then dinosaurs were not excluded. They were land animals with the breath of life, just like every other animal God commanded Noah to bring aboard.

    The next question is size.

While movies often portray dinosaurs as gigantic monsters, most dinosaur species were actually much smaller. Many were no larger than a sheep, a pig, or even a medium-sized dog. Even among the largest species, there would have been no reason to take the oldest and biggest adults. Young adults or juveniles would have been far smaller, required less food, and still been capable of reproducing after the Flood.

Dinosaurs also laid large clutches of eggs, making young animals plentiful. Bringing juvenile representatives would have been the most practical solution.

Another important point is that Noah did not need every species of dinosaur. Genesis repeatedly says animals came according to their kinds, not modern species. Just as a single dog kind could eventually diversify into wolves, coyotes, foxes, and domestic dogs, the same principle applies to dinosaurs. Noah only needed representatives of each created kind, greatly reducing the number of animals on board.

The Ark itself was enormous. At roughly 510 feet long, 85 feet wide, and 51 feet high, it contained over 100,000 square feet of deck space. Studies by Answers in Genesis and other creation researchers have demonstrated that it had more than enough capacity for the required animals, food, and supplies.

    What happened after the Flood?

The fossil record shows that countless dinosaurs perished during the global Flood, which explains the vast dinosaur graveyards found around the world. But Scripture indicates they were not completely wiped out. Since representatives of each kind left the Ark, dinosaurs would have lived alongside humans for a time after the Flood before eventually becoming extinct.

There is also historical evidence that people encountered dinosaur-like creatures after the Flood. Ancient cultures around the world recorded dragons in their artwork, carvings, paintings, and written accounts. Numerous traditions describe large reptilian animals remarkably similar to dinosaurs. Some researchers also point to the human and dinosaur trackways at the Paluxy River in Texas as evidence that humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time.

Perhaps the strongest biblical evidence comes from Job 40, where God describes Behemoth:

"Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee... He eateth grass as an ox... He moveth his tail like a cedar... He is the chief of the ways of God..." (Job 40:15-19)

The description does not fit an elephant or a hippopotamus, as is sometimes claimed. Neither has a tail remotely comparable to a cedar tree. Instead, the passage describes an enormous plant-eating animal with tremendous strength and a massive tail, characteristics that many creationists believe closely resemble a sauropod dinosaur.

When we consider the biblical text, the size of the Ark, the use of juvenile animals, the concept of created kinds, and historical accounts of dinosaur-like creatures after the Flood, the idea of dinosaurs aboard Noah's Ark is entirely reasonable within the biblical worldview.

  • WHERE ARE ALL THE 'STONE AGE' BODIES?
or - Where have all the bodies gone? Longtime ??? passing ...
Evolutionary anthropologists state that for at least 100,000 years, the population of
Neanderthal and Cro-Magnon men was roughly constant, between 1 and 10 million, during which time they were burying their dead.
Allegedly, the population remained fairly constant because the hunter-gatherer way of life would only support that many people over the face of the earth.
Based on evolutionary data, they would have buried 4 billion bodies during that period of time.
This is conservatively calculated by dividing 100,000 years by 25 years/generation to
arrive at 4,000 generations. With a million people dying every generation, this results in a total of 4 billion buried bodies. Lest the reader think this number to be too high , at
least one anthropologist estimates "a cumulative total of about 110 billion individuals seem to have passed their days, and left their bones, if not their marks on this crowded planet". So the figure of 4 billion bodies is a very conservative one indeed compared to 110 billion . Shouldn't many of the supposed 4 billion Stone Age skeletons still be around since evolutionists readily claim that buried fossils last a lot longer than 100,000 years? Compare that number with the world population today of about 7.5 billion.
If that many people died and were buried today, graves would be everywhere! It is truly amazing that only a few thousand pre-historic bodies have been found. Where are all these dead bodies?
If the 'Stone Age' truly lasted 100,000 years, 1 million years, 10 million years, or whatever evolution speculations dictate, archaeologists should be finding innumerable buried Stone Age bodies.
They are not. The data does not fit the evolutionary model .
If the stone age only lasted a few hundred years, the total population would have been very low, hence archaeologists would be finding a comparable number of buried Stone Age bodies, a few thousand. That is what archaeologists are finding.
This is a monumental unanswered discrepancy in evolutionary timetables.
We have found as Creationists, the number of individuals living today does however, line up with the model of Creation, that is, the number of 8 people from the Ark until now, taking all Wars, famine, and disease into account.
