INTRODUCTION
"Every nation has a national calling—a distinctive, peculiar, remarkable, outstanding, and excellent ability, capacity, potentiality, and speciality that heaven has apprehended it for."
Beloved, there is a pattern in Scripture that many have overlooked: God assigns distinct callings to nations. From Genesis to Revelation, we see that no two nations carry the same mandate. The glory of every nation on earth is tied to its national calling. Their failure and demotion can be traced to their failure to discover, develop, and deploy the ability God has endowed them with!
Look at Genesis 4:19-22. Lamech's family produced three distinct streams of calling: Jabal was the father of those who dwell in tents and raise cattle—the pastoral calling. Jubal was the father of all who handle the harp and organ—the musical calling. Tubal-cain was the instructor of every artificer in brass and iron—the engineering calling. Even within one family, God distributed different specialties!
Fast forward to 1 Kings 5:6. The Sidonians had a national reputation: "There is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians." Their calling was woodwork. Their national identity was craftsmanship. And Solomon hired them for the temple!
Then in Exodus 31:1-6, God called Bezaleel and Aholiab specifically for artistic craftsmanship—filling them with the Spirit of God in wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and all manner of workmanship. They were anointed for gold, silver, brass, stone cutting, and timber carving. God anoints artisans!
The Jews were given priesthood—a kingdom of priests (Exodus 19:6). No other nation has produced godly priesthood and prophets like the Jewish nation. It was their national calling until they missed it, and God raised the Church to take over that mandate of facilitating salvation and redemption.
America was called for global security. As long as they maintained the standards of God handed down from the Pilgrim fathers, America stood as a beacon of global security architecture. But internal decay—morally, spiritually, economically—has weakened their standing and hampered their calling. The war in Iran is a self-checking exercise for the United States.
Nigeria, by prophetic agenda, has a unique call for global Christian leadership in this age. It is our mandate and heritage for generations to come. It is the covenant of the fathers long gone that is speaking now. Several men and women of God who walked Nigerian soil have had agreements with God regarding godly priesthood, and it is playing out globally!
Let us explore how to discover and fulfill our national calling using the SWOT analysis! 🏾
---
KEYS FOR REDISCOVERING YOUR NATIONAL CALLING: A SWOT ANALYSIS
1. WHAT IS OUR STRENGTH?
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights." — James 1:17 (KJV)
Nigeria's greatest strength is its population. With over 220 million people and more than half under the age of 25, Nigeria holds the largest youth population in Africa—a demographic advantage that can accelerate growth if properly harnessed . The country is also rich in human capital: a ready-to-learn, tech-savvy workforce that can easily integrate into global markets .
We are Africa's largest economy with substantial oil and gas reserves, enormous agricultural potential (world's 6th-largest cocoa producer), and thriving service sectors in Lagos—financial technologies, digital infrastructure, and film . Nigeria's economy is projected to grow by 4.0% in 2026, outpacing global growth of 3.1% .
But the greatest strength is spiritual. With approximately 107 million Christians—the largest Christian population in Africa and one of the largest in the world—Nigeria has the spiritual capacity to lead globally . The Church in Nigeria is growing, maturing, and positioned for global impact. This is our national calling!
"For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth." — Deuteronomy 7:6 (KJV)
"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." — Acts 1:8 (KJV)
---
2. WHAT IS OUR WEAKNESS?
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." — Hosea 4:6 (KJV)
Nigeria's weaknesses are glaring: corruption, weak institutions, and insecurity. Transparency International gave Nigeria's defense sector an 'E' rating for "very high" corruption risk . Despite a record ₦3.15 trillion defence budget in 2026, insecurity continues to worsen because corruption undermines procurement and accountability .
Public infrastructure and social services fail to reflect increased government spending . Roads are impassable, hospitals are empty, and schools are in disrepair . Over 50 civil society organisations have warned that Nigeria is "on the brink of collapse" .
Spiritually, the weakness is division. Nigeria has 107 million Christians—yet the Church is fragmented, leaders fight over doctrines and properties, and the nation suffers. When the Church is weak, society is vulnerable. Our weakness is not the enemy—it is our own disunity!
"For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work." — James 3:16 (KJV)
"But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another." — Galatians 5:15 (KJV)
"A house divided against itself cannot stand." — Mark 3:25 (KJV)
---
3. WHAT ARE OUR OPPORTUNITIES?
"Behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it." — Revelation 3:8 (KJV)
Nigeria's opportunities are vast: economic diversification, industrialisation, agriculture, and the digital economy . The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) offers access to a market of 1.3 billion people. The informal economy is projected to be the hub of Nigeria's rise to economic powerhouse status.
There is a global shift toward Africa—investment in local tech innovation, digital infrastructure, and youth entrepreneurship. The government has launched initiatives to create one million export-linked jobs by 2030 . The demographic dividend is here—70% of the population is under 35 .
But the greatest opportunity is spiritual. The world is ripe for a fresh move of God from Africa. Nigeria's Christians—107 million strong—can become the global force for revival, missions, and Christian leadership that the world desperately needs. We can send missionaries where the West can no longer go. We can pioneer a Christianity that produces civilisation, not just religion!
"Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations." — Isaiah 54:2 (KJV)
"Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession." — Psalm 2:8 (KJV)
"And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." — Matthew 24:14 (KJV)
---
4. WHAT IS THREATENING OUR EXISTENCE?
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." — 1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)
Nigeria faces serious threats: terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and political instability. In July 2026, SARI Global recorded 596 security incidents and at least 570 fatalities across 36 states and the FCT, driven by mass-casualty bandit and communal attacks in the Northwest and Middle Belt . A new jihadist front in West Africa has seen attacks escalate from zero in 2024 to 504 in 2026 .
The Global Terrorism Index 2026 contradicts government claims that security has improved . Terrorism remains difficult to eliminate because of its ideological component . Nigeria is now the country with the highest levels of Christian persecution in the world—44,000 Christians killed since 2011 .
But here is the key: problems provide opportunities. When we spot the issues, we can deploy solutions and stand out from the crowd. The threat of jihadist expansion is actually a call for the Nigerian Church to rise in prayer, missions, and global Christian leadership!
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world." — Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)
"No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn." — Isaiah 54:17 (KJV)
"Upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." — Matthew 16:18 (KJV)
---
WISDOM NOTES
Every nation has a divine calling. Israel was a kingdom of priests. America was global security. Nigeria's calling is global Christian leadership. "For the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable" (Romans 11:29).
Your strength is not in your resources but in your God. "Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it" (Psalm 127:1). Nigeria's 107 million Christians are a spiritual army waiting to be deployed!
Your weakness is your wake-up call. Corruption and division have hindered Nigeria. "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Problems are opportunities in disguise. "Behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it" (Revelation 3:8). The crisis of insecurity is a call for the Church to arise!
Your national calling is tied to your national identity. The Sidonians were known for timber. The Jews were known for priesthood. What are we known for? "A man's gift maketh room for him" (Proverbs 18:16).
You must apprehend your calling. "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14). Nigeria must press into its purpose!
The Church must lead the way. "I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem" (Isaiah 62:6). Nigeria's future depends on the Church rising to its mandate!
---
FINAL THOUGHTS
Every nation has a national calling—a distinctive, peculiar, and excellent ability that God has endowed it with. Israel was called to priesthood. The Sidonians were called to craftsmanship. Bezaleel and Aholiab were called to artistry. America was called to global security. And Nigeria, by prophetic agenda, has a unique call for global Christian leadership in this age and time. It is our mandate and shall be our heritage for generations to come.
The SWOT analysis reveals our strengths: population, resources, and 107 million Christians. It reveals our weaknesses: corruption, weak institutions, and disunity. It reveals our opportunities: economic diversification, the AfCFTA, and a global spiritual awakening. It reveals our threats: terrorism, banditry, and persecution. But the threat is also a call! When the enemy attacks, God raises a standard. The crisis of insecurity and persecution is a call for the Nigerian Church to rise, pray, fast, and lead globally.
The glory of every nation is tied to its national calling. Failure comes when we refuse to discover, develop, and deploy what God has endowed us with. Nigeria must not miss its moment. The Church must arise. The covenant of the fathers is speaking. Our national calling is clear. The question is: will we answer?
"Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus." — Philippians 3:12 (KJV)

WISDOM NOTES
📖 Every nation has a divine calling. Israel was a kingdom of priests. America was global security. Nigeria's calling is global Christian leadership. "For the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable" (Romans 11:29). 🔥
📖 Your strength is not in your resources but in your God. "Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it" (Psalm 127:1). Nigeria's 107 million Christians are a spiritual army waiting to be deployed! 🙏
📖 Your weakness is your wake-up call. Corruption and division have hindered Nigeria. "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14). 💔
📖 Problems are opportunities in disguise. "Behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it" (Revelation 3:8). The crisis of insecurity is a call for the Church to arise! ⚔️
📖 Your national calling is tied to your national identity. The Sidonians were known for timber. The Jews were known for priesthood. What are we known for? "A man's gift maketh room for him" (Proverbs 18:16). 🎯
📖 You must apprehend your calling. "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14). Nigeria must press into its purpose! 💪
📖 The Church must lead the way. "I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem" (Isaiah 62:6). Nigeria's future depends on the Church rising to its mandate! 🔥

The glory of every nation is tied to its national calling. Failure comes when we refuse to discover, develop, and deploy what God has endowed us with. Nigeria must not miss its moment. The Church must arise. The covenant of the fathers is speaking. Our national calling is clear. The question is: will we answer? 🌍
"Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus." — Philippians 3:12 (KJV)
