• Friend of God

    James 2:23 — “And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.”

    To be called a friend of God is the highest honor any human can receive.

    Friendship with God means an intimate relationship, a divine connection, and a deep fellowship rooted in faith, love, and obedience.

    Many know God as Creator, Provider, or Judge — but few truly know Him as Friend.

    1. Who is a Friend of God?

    A friend of God is someone who walks closely with Him, seeks His will, and delights in His presence.

    Friendship with God requires faith, trust, and obedience.

    John 15:14-15 — “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants… but I have called you friends.”

    - Key Qualities of God’s Friend:

    * They believe His Word.

    * They obey His commandments.

    * They love Him sincerely.

    * They walk with Him daily.

    2. Abraham — The Example of God’s Friend

    Abraham’s relationship with God was based on faith and obedience.

    When God asked him to leave his country, Abraham obeyed without question. When asked to sacrifice Isaac, he trusted God completely.

    Genesis 18:17 — “And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do?”

    This shows intimacy — God revealed His plans to Abraham as one would to a friend.

    Lesson: Friendship with God means God can trust you with His secrets and purpose.

    3. How to Become a Friend of God

    To become a friend of God, you must build a consistent relationship with Him through:

    a. Faith
    Faith is the foundation of friendship with God.

    Hebrews 11:6 — “But without faith it is impossible to please Him.”

    b. Obedience
    Obedience proves your love and loyalty.

    John 14:23 — “If a man love me, he will keep my words.”

    c. Holiness
    God cannot be friends with sin. Holiness keeps the relationship pure.

    Amos 3:3 — “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

    d. Intimacy through Prayer and Word
    The more time you spend with God in prayer and studying His Word, the more your friendship grows.

    Psalm 25:14 — “The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him; and He will show them His covenant.”

    4. Benefits of Being a Friend of God

    When you are a friend of God:

    * God fights your battles. (Exodus 14:14)

    * He shares His secrets with you. (John 16:13)

    * He answers your prayers. (John 15:7)

    * You live in divine favor and peace. (Psalm 5:12)

    Abraham enjoyed divine protection, blessings, and covenant promises because of his friendship with God.

    5. Dangers of Losing Friendship with God

    When a person turns to sin or pride, they break that divine relationship.

    Isaiah 59:2 — “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God.”
    We must guard our relationship with humility, repentance, and obedience.

    To be called a friend of God is not by title but by lifestyle. It requires walking by faith, obeying His Word, and living in holiness. God desires friendship with you today — not religion, but relationship.

    Revelation 3:20 — “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

    Let your life reflect true friendship with God so that heaven may testify of you as it did of Abraham — the Friend of God.

    Pray This Prayer

    Lord, make me Your true friend in word and deed.

    Father, teach me to walk with You in faith and obedience.

    Every sin breaking my relationship with You, forgive me, Lord.

    Reveal Your secrets and will to me, O Lord.

    Let my life reflect divine friendship that glorifies You.
