SHIFT YOUR EXPECTATION FROM MAN TO GOD Many believers suffer disappointment, discouragement, and spiritual fatigue because their expectations are wrongly placed. When you expect from man what only God can supply, frustration is inevitable. Men are limited, inconsistent, and human; God is limitless, faithful, and sovereign. A life of stability begins when expectation shifts from human sources to divine sufficiency. 1. THE DANGER OF EXPECTING TOO MUCH FROM MAN Jeremiah 17:5 — “Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm…” Trusting in human ability as your ultimate source leads to spiritual dryness. Humans can fail, forget, change, or disappoint. Even the best people cannot carry the weight of divine responsibility in your life. The man at the pool of Bethesda relied on people for help but remained helpless for 38 years (John 5:5–7). His breakthrough came only when he encountered Jesus. Lesson: When your hope is anchored in people, your destiny becomes vulnerable to their limitations. 2. THE BLESSING OF EXPECTING FROM GOD Jeremiah 17:7 — “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.” God never fails. His resources never diminish. His promises never expire. When your expectation is in God, you are connected to an unfailing supply system. Psalm 121:1–2 — “My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” God is not just able to help; He is the source of help itself. 3. WHY GOD MUST BE YOUR PRIMARY SOURCE a) God Controls Hearts Proverbs 21:1 — The king’s heart is in God’s hand. Even when God uses people, He remains the One directing them. b) God Sees What Men Cannot 1 Samuel 16:7 — Man looks at appearance; God looks at the heart. People judge by what they see; God acts based on truth. c) God Knows Your Future Isaiah 46:10 — He declares the end from the beginning. Men advise based on experience; God guides based on destiny. 4. SIGNS YOUR EXPECTATION IS STILL IN MAN You become bitter when people fail you. Your joy depends on human approval. You panic when help delays. You compromise to please people. These are indicators that trust has shifted from God to man. 5. HOW TO SHIFT YOUR EXPECTATION TO GOD 1. Build Intimacy with Him — Hebrews 11:6 Faith grows where relationship grows. 2. Stand on His Word — Numbers 23:19 God is not a man that He should lie. 3. Pray Instead of Complaining — Philippians 4:6 Prayer redirects dependence from people to God. 4. Thank Him Before Manifestation — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Gratitude proves trust. 6. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUR EXPECTATION IS IN GOD Psalm 34:5 — “They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.” You gain peace despite delays. You remain stable during uncertainty. You experience divine surprises. You are never put to shame. God may use men, but He never wants you to idolize them. The channel is not the source. CONCLUSION Men are vessels; God is the fountain. When your expectation is fixed on God, disappointment loses its power over you. Your confidence becomes unshakable because it rests not on human reliability but on divine faithfulness. Brethren Stop chasing men to solve what only God can handle. Seek God first, and He will command the right people to locate you. Psalm 62:5 — “My expectation is from Him.” Let this become your daily confession. PRAYER POINTS Father, deliver me from misplaced expectations in Jesus’ name. Lord, teach my heart to trust You above every human help. Key Term. Speaking in “tongues” is a major issue in 1 Corinthians (1 Cor 12–14). The Bible seems to describe at least two, and perhaps three, different kinds of tongues: speaking in a foreign language supernaturally with no prior knowledge of the language (Acts 2:1–11), a private prayer (perhaps angelic) language unintelligible to others (1 Cor 14:14–17; compare Rom 8:26); and a spiritual (or angelic) language that requires the interpretation of someone else (1 Cor 12:29–30; 14:26–33). The spiritual language may be the same as the private prayer language. When used in church services, Paul commands that the spiritual language be interpreted by someone with the gift of interpretation or not used at all (1 Cor 14:26–33). (Faithlife Study Bible)

Paul discusses two types of tongues: those of people and those of angels (13:1). When someone speaks in the tongues of angels, they are speaking to God (14:2)—no one else understands them and thus they need an interpreter (14:28).
