  • Don’t Be Like Lot

In the Bible, Lot was a man who started well but ended badly.

He was Abraham’s nephew — blessed by association and favored because of his connection to a righteous man.

However, Lot made decisions that gradually drew him away from God.

His life serves as a warning to all believers today: not every opportunity is divine, and not every comfort means God’s approval.

    Genesis 13:10–13

“And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere… Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.”

    1. Lot Chose by Sight, Not by Faith
Lot looked at the beauty of the land instead of seeking the will of God.

He followed what his eyes could see rather than what the Spirit could lead.

2 Corinthians 5:7 – “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Many today are like Lot — chasing greener pastures without asking God’s direction.

They move for money, fame, or pleasure, only to end up in Sodom — a land of sin and destruction.

    2. Lot Left the Place of Blessing

As long as Lot was with Abraham, he enjoyed divine protection and favor.

But when he separated from Abraham, he lost that covering.

Genesis 13:14 – After Lot departed, “the Lord said to Abram…”

    Note:
God didn’t speak until Lot left. Some relationships or decisions silence God’s voice in our lives.

When we move out of divine covering, we open the door to destruction.

    3. Lot Lived Among the Wicked

Lot moved his tent toward Sodom — not into it at first — but later he lived inside the city (Genesis 14:12). Sin always starts small: compromise today, corruption tomorrow, destruction soon after.

1 Corinthians 15:33 – “Do not be deceived: Evil communication corrupts good manners.”

When you keep company with sinners and worldly people, you begin to think and live like them.

    4. Lot Lost His Family

Lot’s decisions cost him dearly. His wife turned into a pillar of salt because she loved the world more than God.

His daughters later committed incest with him — a shameful ending for a man once blessed.

Genesis 19:26 – “But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.”

When you compromise your walk with God, you not only endanger yourself but also your household.

    5. Lot Escaped, But Empty

Though God showed mercy and rescued Lot from destruction, he came out of Sodom with nothing. He lost his wealth, his home, his wife, and his honor.

Genesis 19:30 – “And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him…”

It is possible to be saved but empty — to escape judgment but lose your crown.

Don’t be like Lot! Don’t choose by sight — choose by faith.

Don’t love the world — love God. Don’t dwell in Sodom — dwell in the presence of God.

Remember, it is better to have little with God than to have much without Him.

    Luke 17:32 – “Remember Lot’s wife.”

    PRAYER POINTS
    * Lord, deliver me from worldly desires that lead to destruction.

    * Give me grace to follow You by faith and not by sight.

    * Keep me from the path of compromise and sin.

    * Restore every area of my life where I have made a wrong choice.
