God's Creation = 100 / evolution = 0 THE “GOOGLY-EYED FISH” THAT WASN’T SUPPOSED TO EXIST Deep in Greenland, fossils of Norselaspis glacialis were first uncovered in the early 2000s, but it wasn’t until 2025, using high-resolution X-ray scanning, that researchers could finally see inside. What they expected was a simple, primitive jawless fish. What they found was something entirely different. This small creature had an unusually large, well-developed heart cavity, complex eye structures with controlled muscle attachments, refined inner ear components for balance, and fins shaped for directed movement rather than drifting. One researcher described it as having “a shark’s heart inside a jawless fish.” This fossil is dated by secular methods to over 400 million years ago, a point in the evolutionary timeline where these systems are supposed to still be developing. But here, they are already present, already coordinated, already functioning. That creates a problem evolution cannot easily explain. A heart is not useful unless it is fully operational. Eyes require muscles, nerves, and processing to function. Balance systems depend on precise internal structures working together. Fins require coordinated control between skeleton, muscle, and nervous system. These are interdependent systems that do not work in pieces. They either function together or not at all. Yet instead of a trail of gradual transitions leading to this level of integration, we find a complete organism. Even evolutionary researchers are now adjusting their claims, suggesting advanced sensory and cardiovascular systems appeared before jaws, but that only shifts the problem. It does not solve it. How do complete, coordinated systems appear before the structures they supposedly evolved to support? From a biblical perspective, the answer is straightforward. Genesis 1:21 describes sea creatures created fully functional from the beginning. And that is exactly what we are looking at. Not a developing form. A finished design. There is another detail that strengthens this conclusion. The fossil preserves delicate structures such as eye muscles and inner ear features, details that typically decay rapidly after death. Their preservation points to rapid burial under conditions that prevented decomposition. Slow accumulation over millions of years does not preserve fine soft tissue detail. Sudden, sediment-heavy burial does. That aligns with catastrophic conditions like those described in Genesis 6 through 9 during the global Flood. The “googly-eyed” fish was expected to support a story of gradual evolution, but instead it reveals something else entirely. The evidence itself has not changed. The interpretation has. One view forces this into a timeline of slow development. The other recognizes what is actually present. A fully integrated organism from the start. As Psalm 104:24 declares, “O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all.” Even this strange little fish stands as a witness, not to randomness, but to intentional design.

GUIDELINES FOR LIVING. March 30th, 2026 Don’t Waste a Wake-Up Call! Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. Hebrews 9:27-28 “Wake-up calls” is the term applied to them—those close brushes with death which may come by being a participant in a near-fatal car crash, having a heart attack, waking up in the hospital, being a passenger on a plane which is hijacked, waking to the smell of smoke in your house, or about anything when you know that death stalked you but you didn’t fall prey to its grasp. It happened to a pilot friend of mine when he was flying military jets in Greenland. The air was crisp and clear and very, very cold. He had just glanced down at the radar screen, the sweeping hand on the unit detected nothing of concern. Then, he happened to look through the narrow slit of a windscreen straight ahead. A wall of ice was in front of him which the radar unit had not detected. He jerked back the control of the jet, banked the plane severely and barely missed an iceberg in front of him. It happened to my wife as she drove to the airport to pick up our son. It was raining, and whenever it hasn’t rained for a while, a thin film of oil exhaust from thousands and thousands of automobiles can turn a wet freeway into a demolition derby. The traffic had stopped ahead and as she touched her brakes, the little car began to slide, then rolled over and over, coming to rest upside down on the freeway divider. Now, here’s the question for thought on today’s edition of Guidelines: Do wake-up calls really cause you to wake up, to acknowledge that your life is short and that death is certain, and to change the way you live? Do they cause you to be more loving, to take more time to play with the kids, to be more interested in spiritual things? Or, do you walk away from that close encounter saying, “Whew! Boy, that was sure close,” as you wipe your brow and quickly forget that you were only moments away from certain death? You are wise beyond words if you live with the certainty that life at its longest is short and that standing on the other side of death is a loving God who sent His son to show you the way back to heaven. Haddon Robinson tells of one order of Trappist monks, and they have a monastery with a graveyard attached to it. Each day the monks solemnly traipse to the graveyard and stand for a few moments before an open grave—a solemn reminder that life is short and that we ought to make every day count. When one of their number dies, he’s put in that empty grave, and a new one is dug. In an article entitled, “The Grim Shepherd,” Haddon wrote, “There is a way in which the king is like the lion, the dowager is like the dog, the mafia boss is like the pit bull, and the farmer like the cow: they all die. They have that in common. But if the dowager, mafia boss, or farmer dies with no more understanding than animals, then they are no better than the beasts of the field.” Here’s a closing thought: Your good deeds, friend, your money, your power, your influence, your good luck or charm, even your beauty, will never keep death at bay when God says, “It’s time to come home.” But the important thing is knowing that you have made peace with God so when you stand in His presence, you will hear Him say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the joy of [the] Lord.” Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Knowing Him as the shepherd of your soul, and your Lord and Savior, takes the fear out of a close encounter with death. Wake-up calls can be valid. That’s a tricky question, as different countries have different definitions of a city. A loose definition would make Sermersooq in Greenland (formed by five municipalities) the largest city by area. It spans 205,400 square miles—but it has just 0.11 people per square mile. The largest U.S. cities by area are Sitka, Juneau, Wrangell, and Anchorage, all in Alaska. The apostle John was given “a gold reed to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.” Once more, this is reminiscent of Ezekiel’s vision (40:3), when he was placed on a high mountain to view a new city and temple. An angel measured with a rod many parts of the city, walls, gates, and temple. Measuring in Ezekiel was for the purpose of restoring the temple. Measuring in Revelation shows the temple (and city blended into one) already stands. Not only is the length and breadth of the city a perfect square of 12,000 furlongs (around 1,500 miles), but “its length, breadth, and height are equal.” That means the city is a perfect cube. If you multiply 12,000 furlongs by the 12 sides of a cube, you come to 144,000, which represents all of God’s people (Revelation 7:4). Only one other structure is a perfect cube in the Bible: the most holy place of the sanctuary (1 Kings 6:20). It’s as if the entire New Jerusalem is God’s throne room (Revelation 22:3). Jeremiah prophesied that Jerusalem would someday be called “The Throne of the LORD, and all the nations shall be gathered to it” (Jeremiah 3:17). The holy city is a place with full access by all the righteous. Jesus promised, “In My Father’s house are many mansions [dwellings]” (John 14:2). Amazing Facts January 11th Solar Storm. On September 1, 1859, the Carrington Super Flare, the largest solar flare in modern history, struck the earth, causing the most powerful geomagnetic storm ever recorded. It caused the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) to shine so powerfully they were visible around the world, even from the Caribbean Islands. They were so bright over the Rockies that gold miners thought it was morning and got up to prepare breakfast! Between August 28 and September 2, 1859 many sunspots and solar flares were observed in the sun. British astronomer Richard Carrington observed an unusually large flare just before noon on September 1. This storm, also called the 1859 Solar Superstorm, caused the failure of telegraph lines across Europe and North America. Some operators even received a shock from the incident. Telegraph pylons literally threw sparks and telegraph paper sometimes started on fire. There were some systems that continued to send and receive messages though disconnected from power. By and large, the communication system on which millions depended was fried. A geomagnetic storm caused by a solar flare temporarily affects the earth’s magnetosphere. Ice core samples from Greenland have shown that this phenomenon takes place about once every 500 years. Less severe storms have occurred in 1921 and 1960 and caused widespread radio disruption. In the fall of 2003, there were 17 major solar flares observed that resulted in an extreme radio blackout. It severely damaged a Japanese satellite and the WAAS system of the Federal Aviation Administration was offline for about 30 hours because of the storm. It is believed if a solar flare like the 1859 storm hit the world today it would suddenly wipe out the Internet and modern communications on a global scale. The Bible says this would not be the first time international communications broke down through a heavenly phenomenon. Some years after Noah’s flood, mankind began to migrate to a plain and build a tower “to make a name for ourselves” (Genesis 11:4). “They directly rebelled against God’s instructions, and the Lord came down ...” and “confused their language” (v. 7) so they could not communicate.
