"...but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God" Scriptures says in 1 Samuel 30:6. We see in this situation that had resulted in complete hopelessness and despondency..where even David's trusted men were speaking of stoning him. But David had to draw from the relationship he had with the Lord HIS ( my emphases) God and encourage himself. This CANNOT happen if one does not know his God..or does not have a relationship with Him.. It was his relationship with HIS GOD that motivated, inspired and eventually saved him and his household, including that of his mighty men.
