• Hello, I would like to share with you the message from 14 July 2026 from “The Good Seed” daily calendar.

Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you. (John 16:22)

    Dalli Dalli
That was the name of Hans Rosenthal’s quiz show in Germany in the 1970s and 1980s. With it, he wanted to bring joy to people: those sitting in front of the TV screen and cheering for the contestants – but especially needy families whom he could support through the donations collected from his show.
Rosenthal (1925-1987) wanted to give joy – because as a child he only knew fear, the fear of being discovered. This was because he was Jewish, and almost his entire family perished in the gas chambers of the Nazis. He survived because a friend of his Jewish grandmother hid him in her garden shed, a shack, a former chicken coop. There, in four square meters, he survived the Holocaust.
“Dalli” (meaning quickly) was what the guards in the concentration camps called out when a new train of prisoners arrived and a decision between life and death was made; and “Dalli Dalli” was the show with which Hans Rosenthal wanted to make people happy, even those who might have reported him and betrayed him during the war, and who were now cheering for him.
From him, my thoughts turn to someone much greater, to the Lord Jesus Christ. Even as a child, they wanted to kill Him; 33 years later, He died on the cross. By whose hands? By the hands of those whom He wanted to bless abundantly. He wanted to save, wanted to forgive sins. For that, He had to suffer and die. He was willing to do this because He saw the joy that would follow: the joy of people who would feel eternally secure with God – and His own joy that He would have these people with Him forever.

    ‎Texts: Amos 3:1-8, 4:11-12, Psalm 5:4-8 and Matthew 8:23-27
    ‎Memory Verde: Matthew 8:27
    ‎Opening Prayer
‎O Master of the Deep, I step into the vessel of this Tuesday morning feeling the subtle, rising panic of the winds around me. The financial spreadsheets look like gathering clouds, the tension in my home feels like shifting currents, and the sheer weight of my responsibilities threatens to pull me under. Forgive me for confusing Your silence with absence. Give me the profound grace today to look away from the crashing waves and fix my eyes on the unshakeable rest of the King sleeping in my boat. Amen.
    ‎Hymn
‎*"It Is Well With My Soul"
‎Introduction: The Storm That Scares the Experts
‎Monday was about breaking the chains; Tuesday is about surviving the sea. You have embarked on your week, but in today’s Gospel narrative, Jesus and His disciples step into a boat, These disciples were not amateur tourists; they were seasoned, hardened fishermen who had spent their entire lives on the Sea of Galilee. *"Lord, save us! We're going to drown!"* means this was not an ordinary squall. It was a crisis that entirely overwhelmed their human expertise.
‎ As the courageous holocaust survivor Corrie ten Boom profoundly noted:
‎"Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength."
‎The *Revelation Codex* calls you to audit your panic this morning. The storm is real, but the terror is a choice. You are about to discover that the safety of your vessel is not determined by the calmness of the water, but by the identity of your passenger.
‎Reflection: The Geography of the Squall
‎The Roar of the Lion (Amos 3:8): In today's first reading, the prophet Amos declares, *"The lion has roared—who will not fear? The Sovereign Lord has spoken—who can but prophesy?"* God uses the terrifying imagery of a roaring lion to remind Israel of His absolute, uncontainable authority. We often fear the wrong roar. We tremble at the roar of the economy, the roar of a difficult boss, or the roar of a rebellious teenager.
‎  The Codex Mirror: What "lion" is roaring at you this morning, trying to convince you that it has the final say over your survival? You must remind your fears that they are subject to the True Lion of the Tribe of Judah.
‎The Cushion of the Sovereign (Matthew 8:24-26): The waves are crashing, the boat is filling, and Jesus is... asleep. He is not asleep out of exhaustion or apathy; He is asleep because the storm poses absolutely zero threat to His eternal purpose. When the disciples wake Him, He does not immediately rebuke the storm. He rebukes *them* first: *"You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" The Codex Mirror: Your panic over your children or your bank account is often an accusation against God's character. You are screaming, *"Don't you care?"* The Lord’s quiet rest is an invitation to step off the deck of your own frantic management and sit beside Him in the stern.
‎ Life Application: Anchoring in the Gale
‎The Posture of the Stern: When the first chaotic email, domestic argument, or financial stressor hits you today, do not immediately react. Take a physical, deep breath, lean back, and mentally step into the stern of the boat. Say: *"My Savior is not panicking over this, so neither will I."*
‎The Silent Rebuttal: The enemy will try to capsize your peace through a specific fear today. Rebut it instantly with the memory verse. Remind yourself that the winds of your specific crisis *must* obey His voice.
‎The REVELATION CODEX: Transcribing the Codex
‎WHAT I HEAR (The Rhema Word):
‎ (What specific storm in your marriage or finances is the Spirit commanding you to stop panicking over right
    ‎WHAT I SEE (The Discernment):
‎ (Where is the enemy trying to use your own expertise and self-reliance to cause you to sink today?) `
‎WHAT I RECEIVE (The Impartation):** *(Take the profound, unshakeable peace of the sleeping Christ from the altar. Secure it here for your Tuesday.)
    ‎Conclusion
‎The winds of this Tuesday will blow, and the waters of the marketplace will churn, but your boat cannot sink. You carry the Maker of the Oceans within you. Stop relying on your own navigational skills to save your family. Rest in the supreme, unbothered authority of the Sovereign.
    ‎ Closing Prayer
‎> *Lord of the Wind and Waves, forgive me for my frantic efforts to bail out my own life. I surrender my financial fears, my marital frustrations, and my parental anxieties to You. When the storm hits today, keep my heart anchored in Your presence. Let me walk in such profound peace that the world looks at me and asks, "What kind of faith is this?" Amen.

  • DOES THE BIBLE SAY THAT GOD WILL BLESS THOSE WHO BLESS ISRAEL?
Tucker Carlson has made something of a hobby out of mocking the idea that God blesses those who bless Israel and curses those who curse her. When Senator Ted Cruz could not cite the verse on the spot, Carlson declared victory in what became a viral moment for him. But winning a theological debate on a technicality against a non-theologian is not the same as being right. Let us look at what the Bible actually teaches — and then let the history books add their own testimony.

    THE FOUNDATIONAL PROMISE
The foundational passage is Genesis 12:1–3. God speaks to Abraham and declares,

"I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

Tucker’s counter-argument is essentially: fine, that was a promise to Abraham personally, and Abraham is dead, so case closed, or maybe, that was a promise to the future church! But this reading does violence to the entire arc of Scripture.

    A DYNASTY PROMISE, NOT A ONE-MAN DEAL
Any serious Old Testament scholar understands that the Abrahamic covenant was not a one-man arrangement — it was a dynasty promise. The covenant God made with Abraham and later reaffirmed with Isaac and Jacob is of transcendent significance, containing promises that were explicitly everlasting — even through “a thousand generations” (Psalm 105:8–11). The Lord reaffirmed through oath His commitment to bless Abraham and his seed — understood as the corporate physical progeny (meaning his actual physical descendants) — and the covenant came through Isaac and Jacob as well.[1]

The Scripture makes this extension of the covenant unmistakable. When God appears to Isaac in Genesis 26:3–4, He says:

"Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your offspring I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham your father. I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and will give to your offspring all these lands. And in your offspring all the nations of the earth shall be blessed."

The same covenant. The same nations. Now addressed to the next physical generation.

Then God reaffirms it again to Jacob at Bethel in Genesis 28:13–14:

"I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed."

Abraham, Isaac, Jacob — three generations, one unbroken covenant.

    Psalm 105:8–11 seals the case:

“He REMEMBERS his covenant FOVEVER, the word that he commanded, for A THOUSAND GENERATIONS, the covenant that he made with Abraham, his sworn promise to Isaac, which he confirmed to Jacob as a statute, to Israel as an EVERLESTING COVENANT, saying, ‘To you I will give the land of Canaan as your portion for an inheritance.’”

This is not a personal promise to one man. It is a covenant made to Abraham, renewed to Isaac, confirmed to Jacob, and declared everlasting to the nation of Israel.

BALAAM AND THE BLESSING OF THE NATIONS
Most strikingly, in Numbers 24, a pagan diviner named Balaam is hired by the Moabite king Balak specifically to curse Israel. But what came out of Balaam’s mouth instead of a curse was this: “Blessed are those who bless you, and cursed are those who curse you”— spoken over the twelve physical tribes of Jacob wandering in the wilderness.[2]

Commentators note that Balaam’s blessing formula deliberately echoes the original words of Genesis 12:3 and Isaac’s blessing of Jacob — confirming the assurance of divine favor to the righteous and their seed forever.[3] By Numbers 24, Abraham has been dead for centuries. But the blessing-and-cursing principle is applied without hesitation to the living nation of his descendants. Tucker's argument — that the modern nation of Israel (which DNA proves are the descendants of the Israelites) has no connection to the biblical promises — cannot survive contact with the text.

NOTE: I do not believe that the modern nation of Israel is guiltless or should not be held accountable like any other nation. Wherever there is injustice, it should be called out. But that also means in Russia, which attacked Ukraine without cause, any Iran, where 50,000 citizens have been murdered for protesting. It seems that people like Tucker are fixated on Israel's sins while making excuses for the Islamic world. What the Bible teaches is that believers should contend for Israel's salvation in order to provoke her to jealousy (Romans 11:11). That doesn't mean unquestioned support and no accountability.

    THE CHURCH IN GENESIS 12
Before we turn to history, a reasonable question must be answered: what about the Church? If the Abrahamic covenant extends to Israel as a nation, where do Gentile believers fit in? The answer is not complicated — it is actually hiding in plain sight in Genesis 12 itself.

God makes two distinct promises to Abraham in those opening verses. First, He says He will make Abraham into a great nation — that is, Israel, the physical descendants through Isaac and Jacob. But then God says something broader: "in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." Those are two different things. One is a nation. The other is the multitude of nations. The promise is not either/or — it is both/and. Israel is the vehicle through which the universal blessing travels. This is why God changes Abram’s name to Abraham in Genesis 17 to indicate that he will be the father of a multitude of nations.

And we know exactly what that blessing is. Paul makes it explicit in Galatians 3:8, where he quotes Genesis 12:3 and says that God was preaching the gospel in advance to Abraham — that through his seed, meaning, ultimately, the Messiah Jesus, all nations would be blessed with salvation. So the Church is not in competition with Israel in Genesis 12. The Church is the fulfillment of the second half of the promise. Gentiles who believe in Jesus are the "all the families of the earth" God was already talking about when He first spoke to Abraham. That does not cancel the covenant with the nation of Israel — it completes the picture.

    NOW, LET THE HISTORY SPEAK
In 1917, the British government issued the Balfour Declaration, expressing its support for the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine — an act many believe represented divine favor at work, and which historians describe as among the last great acts of the British Empire.[4] Britain was then the world’s dominant superpower, controlling roughly a quarter of the earth’s landmass. It was said that “the sun never sets on the British Empire” because it had lands all over the globe. For several decades, under leaders with strong evangelical sensibilities, Britain had championed Jewish restoration to their ancient homeland.

    Then Britain turned.

In May 1939, the British government issued the White Paper, heavily favoring Arab demands: it limited Jewish immigration to 75,000 over five years, ended Jewish land purchases, and effectively declared that Britain had fulfilled its obligations to the Jewish people — closing the Holy Land’s doors even as Jews were fleeing Nazi persecution across Europe.[5] It was a breathtaking betrayal, and it came precisely when the Jewish people needed refuge most.

The timeline of what followed is striking. In 1940, the British Empire still contained a quarter of the world’s population and a fifth of its landmass. Yet within the following two decades, more than twenty British territories gained independence, and by 1980, only a handful remained under British control.[6] The sun, so to speak, began setting on the empire almost immediately after Britain slammed the door on the Jewish people.

Meanwhile, the United States stepped into the void. America had long been shaped by a deep biblical heritage and a Puritan identification with Israel’s story. America championed the founding of the modern State of Israel in 1948 — Harry Truman, himself a student of Scripture, recognized Israel eleven minutes after independence was declared at 9 AM EST on May 14. In the decades that followed, the United States became the undisputed dominant world power in every category: economic, military, cultural, and technological. For nearly a century now, no nation on earth has come close.

    ANECDOTE OR EVIDENCE?
The cynic will note that empires rise and fall for many reasons — wars, economics, nationalism. That is true, and no honest theologian claims the blessing-and-cursing principle operates as a simple vending machine. But the trajectory is undeniable. The nation that championed Jewish restoration rose to global preeminence. The nation that betrayed the Jewish people and locked them out of their homeland as the Holocaust unfolded lost its empire within a generation.

That is not merely anecdote. That is a pattern consistent with what the Scripture promises — a promise that did not die with Abraham, but was passed to his seed, renewed through Isaac and Jacob, reaffirmed through a pagan prophet named Balaam, and written across the history of nations ever since.

Tucker Carlson is free to dismiss that pattern. But dismissing it does not make it disappear.

There’s Help for Beating Our Own Evil Desires.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Matthew 6:13

The conflict between good and evil is not a drama akin to that which John Milton described in Paradise Lost, written in 1674, long before the Holocaust or the atom was split. It’s a contemporary battle that is played out in business, politics, science, and human relations. Today’s world is one of disjunction, turmoil, conflict, inner frustration, and selfishness. The battle is not just out there, either. It’s within—the constant conflict between what you know is right and what feels good; between what is just and what will get what you desire which you know is wrong.

As long as it’s “out there” somewhere, it’s not quite so bad because you can point your finger and decry the conduct of others; but when you smite your breast and cry out, “God, why did I do something so evil?” it’s another matter. Frankly, when it becomes personal, the issue of evil in our world makes us very uncomfortable.

Evil is not a twentieth century phenomenon, but an old one—it goes back to our first family in the Garden of Eden. Harold Lindsell lived through most of the turbulent twentieth century, but he’s convinced the problems didn’t begin with the onslaught of nationalism in Hitler’s Germany but in the Garden, long ago.

He writes, “In Eden’s Paradise no human predicament existed. Created after the image of [G]od, man walked in fellowship and harmony with and in obedience to his Creator. But Adam chose his own will instead of God’s and plunged the entire human race into moral and spiritual degradation. This evil choice created the human predicament. Sowing the wind of disobedience, man reaped the whirlwind of spiritual suicide. Today he is totally unable to solve the mass of problems occasioned by his initial revolt.”

In those words: “Adam chose his own will instead of God’s,” we find the heart of the dilemma that confronts us today. Do we choose our will or what God wills? Now, the very issue brings into the focus the fact that God is not a disinterested spectator who resides far away in heaven; rather, He’s a participant in the battle for the minds and wills of humankind.

There’s another player in the drama of good and evil, and some thirteen times the Bible speaks of this one as “the evil one.” He is also described as the devil, or Lucifer, from a Latin word that means “light bearer.”

Jesus instructed the disciples to pray, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one” (Matthew 6:13). In the garden, immediately before He went to the cross, Jesus also prayed that God would protect His own from the evil one (see John 17:15).

This one who was described as being evil led our first parents astray in the Garden of Eden and ever since then, he has used his influence in the lives of us mortals who daily face the choices of good and evil.

“But the Lord is faithful,” wrote Paul to the saints at Thessalonica, adding, “and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one” (2 Thessalonians 3:3).

When asked why he had done wrong, a little boy told his mother, “I heard a voice saying, ‘Do it!’ and another voice saying, ‘Don’t do it!’“ “And which voice is louder?” asked his mother. “Whichever one tells me the thing that I want to do!” said the little boy.

That’s the human predicament. You have to decide in the battle of good and evil, but with your decision comes the responsibility for your choice. So, choose wisely, friend, for the choices that you make today will go far, far into the future.

Guidelines for Living. June 22nd, 2026 There’s Help for Beating Our Own Evil Desires. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Matthew 6:13 The conflict between good and evil is not a drama akin to that which John Milton described in Paradise Lost, written in 1674, long before the Holocaust or the atom was split. • Let's talk about it.
SCHINDLER'S LIST: ONE LIFE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The story behind the movie Schindler's List is one of the darkest and yet most hopeful moments in human history. Set during the Holocaust of World War II, the film tells the true story of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who rescued more than 1,100 Jewish people from death by employing them in his factories.

At first, Schindler was not a saint. He was ambitious. He wanted profit. He enjoyed luxury and influence. But as he witnessed the cruelty of the Nazi regime, something changed inside him. He saw innocent men, women, and children treated as less than human. He saw fear in their eyes and death in their streets. And eventually he realized that neutrality in the presence of evil is impossible.

History remembers many powerful men from that era for the destruction they caused. Yet one businessman with a changed heart became a light in the middle of darkness. His story reminds us that one person’s actions can make a difference, even when evil seems overwhelming.

The Bible says in Proverbs 31:8,
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.”

Schindler did exactly that. He used his position, his money, his influence, and his courage to save lives. He could not stop the entire war. He could not rescue every victim. But he refused to do nothing.

    Sometimes we think,
“What difference can one person make?”
The problems of the world feel too large.
    Violence is everywhere.
    Corruption seems powerful.
    Hatred spreads quickly.
    People are suffering.
And many become discouraged because they think their small acts do not matter.

    But history teaches otherwise.

    One person warned Noah’s generation.
One shepherd boy named David stood against Goliath.
One young woman named Esther risked her life to save her people.
One disciple named Peter preached and thousands believed.
And one Savior named Jesus Christ changed the destiny of humanity forever.

Never underestimate what God can do through one willing heart.

In the movie, there is a powerful moment when Schindler breaks down emotionally near the end of the war. He looks at his possessions and says he could have saved more people. He sees a car and thinks it could have bought more lives. He sees a pin and realizes it might have saved another person.

That scene touches many hearts because it reveals the value of a single human life.

The Jewish teaching from the Talmud says,
“Whoever saves one life saves the world entire.”

That truth agrees beautifully with Scripture. Every person matters to God. Every soul has value. Every act of mercy matters.

In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus tells the story of the Good Samaritan. Religious leaders passed by a wounded man, but one ordinary traveler stopped to help. The Samaritan did not solve all suffering in the world. He simply helped the person in front of him. And Jesus said that is what true neighborly love looks like.

Sometimes we are waiting for opportunities to do something big while ignoring the small opportunities God already placed in our hands.

A kind word can save a discouraged soul.
A visit can comfort the lonely.
A meal can help the hungry.
A prayer can strengthen the weak.
A stand for truth can protect the innocent.
A testimony can lead someone to Christ.

You may never stand in a war zone like Schindler did, but every day you stand at a crossroads between selfishness and compassion, silence and courage, fear and faith.

History also warns us about the danger of silence. During the Holocaust, millions suffered not only because evil men acted, but because many good people stayed quiet. Fear kept some silent. Convenience kept others silent.

The Bible reminds us in James 4:17:
“To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

God calls His people not merely to avoid evil but to actively do good.

When Jesus Christ walked this earth, He touched lepers nobody wanted to touch. He defended women others wanted to condemn. He fed the hungry, healed the broken, and welcomed the rejected. In a world full of darkness, Jesus became the light.

And He calls us to do the same.

    Matthew 5:14 says,
“You are the light of the world.”

    Notice Jesus did not say,
    “You might be the light.”
    He said,
    “You are the light.”

A small candle still shines in a dark room.
One act of courage still matters.
One voice for truth still matters.
    One faithful Christian still matters.

    Perhaps you feel too ordinary.
    So was Schindler.
Perhaps you feel your resources are too small.
So did the widow with two mites.
Perhaps you think the darkness is too great.
But darkness has never defeated light.

The story of Schindler is not ultimately about human greatness. It is about what happens when a heart awakens to compassion. It reminds us that even in humanity’s darkest chapters, goodness can still rise.

Today our world still needs people willing to stand for righteousness.
People willing to defend the weak.
    People willing to show mercy.
People willing to love when hatred is easier.
People willing to act when others stay silent.

You may never know how far one act of kindness will travel through history.

A teacher encouraging a struggling student.
A mother praying for her children.
    A pastor preaching truth faithfully.
A young person refusing peer pressure.
    A church helping the poor.
A believer standing firm for Christ.

    All these actions matter.

As we remember the lessons reflected in Schindler's List, let us remember this powerful truth:
Evil may appear strong for a season, but compassion, courage, and righteousness leave a legacy that outlives darkness.

And perhaps the greatest lesson is this:
You do not have to save the whole world to change someone’s world.

May God help us become people who refuse silence in the face of evil, who choose compassion over indifference, and who remember that one faithful life can make an eternal difference.

    THE HOLY SPIRIT

God the eternal Spirit was active with the Father and the Son in Creation, incarnation, and redemption. He is as much a person as are the Father and the Son. He inspired the writers of Scripture. He filled Christ’s life with power. He draws and convicts human beings; and those who respond He renews and transforms into the image of God. Sent by the Father and the Son to be always with His children, He extends spiritual gifts to the church, empowers it to bear witness to Christ, and in harmony with the Scriptures leads it into all truth. groups. To enhance the Kingdom of GOD.

End of the World Predictions Gone Wrong

A 2010 Pew Research Center survey revealed that 50 percent of American Protestants believe the return of Christ would occur within the next 40 years. Even though the bible says we do not know the day or hour of Christ’s return (Matthew 24:36), people have for centuries been tempted to make such predictions anyway. Here are just some of the failed predictions through history:

    2800 BC

Assyrian clay tablet reads, “Our earth is degenerate in these latter days. There are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end.”

    AD 1000

Pope Sylvester II predicts the world will end on January 1, 1000.

    1033

Widespread belief that the 1,000th anniversary of Christ’s death would mark His return

    1284

Pope Innocent III predicts the world would end 666 years after the rise of Islam.

    1658

Columbus claims the world was created in 5343 bc and would last 7,000 years.

    1844

Baptist preacher William Miller predicts the return of Jesus sometime on October 22.

    1914

Charles Taze Russell predicts the great day of the Lord would occur in October.

    1936

Herbert W. Armstrong predicts the rapture would take place this year.

    1962

Jeane Dixon predicts a planetary alignment would bring destruction to the world.

    1967

Cult leader Jim Jones claims that nuclear holocaust would take place this year.

    1981

Chuck Smith, Calvary Chapel, predicts the world would end this year.

    1982

Pat Robertson predicts the world would end in October or November.

    1994

Harold Camping claims the rapture would come in September or October.

    1999

A prediction attributed to Nostradamus states the “king of terror” would come.

    2000

Many believe that the Y2K computer bug would cause major catastrophes leading to the end of the world as we know it.

    2007

Pat Robertson again predicts the destruction of the earth, this time on April 27.

    2011

Harold Camping again claims the rapture would occur on May 21 and that the end of the world would occur on October 21.

    2012

Some claim a Mayan calendar predicts the end of the age on December 21.

    2014/2015

John Hagee and Mark Blitz claim that four “blood moons” point to the second coming of Christ.

  • A Little Light Reading.
    Three Unclean Spirit's

    Joe Crews.

The book of Revelation is different
from any other part of the Bible. As a
prophetic history of the church of all the
ages, it is quite largely a book of quotes.
Someone has calculated that out of 404
verses, 276 are either directly quoted or
    paraphrased from the Old Testament
Scriptures. It seems clearly evident that
no one can properly understand this last
book of the inspired canon unless he also
has a close familiarity with the writings
    of Moses and the prophets.
This may account for the vast confu-
sion that exists today over the meaning
of John’s apocalyptic beasts and sym-
    bolic horsemen. The so-called “New
    By Joe Crews
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 1 5/13/10 5:36 PM 2 Three Unclean Spirits
Testament” church bodies that view the
Old Testament as only fulfillments of
an antiquated past would certainly find
no relevance in the writings of John
    the Revelator.
Paul wrote, “… all scripture is giv-
en by inspiration of God, and is profit-
able for doctrine, for reproof, for cor-
    rection, for instruction in righteous-
ness” (2 Timothy 3:16). Since the New
Testament had not yet been written, we
can be certain that he was referring to the
    Old Testament Scriptures. “For whatso-
ever things were written aforetime were
written for our learning,” Paul declared
    in Romans 15:4.
These texts establish that the com-
posite prophecies of Revelation are espe-
cially applicable to our own day and were
    inspired for our “doctrine,” “learning,”
    and “instruction in righteousness.”
Just as the book of Genesis delineates
the beginning of the great controversy
between good and evil, the last book
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 2 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 3
of the Bible describes the close of the
conflict. This makes it one of the most
important books in the sacred Scriptures.
It describes the kind of people God will
take to heaven and how they become
overcomers by the blood of the Lamb. It
warns, also, against the final assaults that
Satan will throw against the saints as the
battle rages to its climax. What a docu-
ment! And how the devil hates this book
that exposes his origin, devices, and
    final destiny!
Can we logically expect Satan to at-
tack these prophecies which lay open his
deceptive plans and purposes? How has
he done it? By introducing futurism, the
adversary has struck a blow at the foun-
    dation of prophetic understanding. The
biblical principle of historicism that es-
tablishes a “day for a year” has been re-
jected, and an unwarranted literalism has
been applied to the great lines of proph-
ecy laid out in Daniel and Revelation.
    Specifically, this type of confused
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 3 5/13/10 5:36 PM 4 Three Unclean Spirits
hermeneutics has been utilized in the
study of Armageddon and the king of the
north. The symbolic portrayal of those
events from the pen of the Revelator pro-
vides a key for correcting the error.
“And the sixth angel poured out his
vial upon the great river Euphrates; and
the water thereof was dried up, that the
way of the kings of the east might be
prepared. And I saw three unclean spir-
its like frogs come out of the mouth of
the dragon, and out of the mouth of the
beast, and out of the mouth of the false
prophet. For they are the spirits of dev-
ils, working miracles, which go forth
unto the kings of the earth and of the
whole world, to gather them to the bat-
tle of that great day of God Almighty.
Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he
that watcheth, and keepeth his garments,
lest he walk naked, and they see his
shame. And he gathered them together
into a place called in the Hebrew tongue
    Armageddon” (Revelation 16:12–16).

    Armageddon—A Spiritual Battle
This is probably the key text in the
Bible relating to the great world-end-
ing struggle between Christ and Satan.
Immediately, we can see that many sym-
bols are brought to light in these verses.
The beast, and dragon, and false prophet
are not literal at all. And what can we say
about the clothes described in verse 15?
    Why would this peculiar interruption
take place in the midst of a description of
Armageddon? These clothes are the gar-
ments of salvation and refer directly to
the “fine linen” of that robe of righteous-
    ness described in Revelation 19:8.
From these verses also we notice that
the coming of Jesus “as a thief ’ is related
to the drying up of the river Euphrates
and the appearing of the “kings of the
east.” And even the Battle of Armageddon
is tied to these events. Do these phrases
    sound familiar? They should, because
the same language is used in Isaiah 44:27
to describe the fall of ancient Babylon.
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 5 5/13/10 5:36 PM 6 Three Unclean Spirits
Cyrus actually “dried up” the Euphrates
River and thus delivered the literal Jews
    from Babylonian captivity. After refer-
ring to Cyrus as “the righteous man from
the east” in Isaiah 41:2, Isaiah speaks of
him as one who would “dry up thy riv-
ers” and “open … the two leaved gates”
    (Isaiah 44:27, 28; 45:1).
    Historians recognize these as refer-
ences to the clever battle plan of King
Cyrus to enter the city via the water gates
through the wall, after the water had been
diverted from its channel. Since the river
flowed through the midst of Babylon,
this ruse was a perfect means of access
into the city while the drunken king par-
    tied with his military leaders.
Why is Revelation predicting a future
drying up of Euphrates and an end-time
deliverance of God’s people? Hasn’t this
all been fulfilled in the days of Daniel
the prophet? It has in its primary literal
fulfillment, but John reveals that there
is a secondary, symbolic application of
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 6 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 7
those events. In the historical account,
the literal Jews were freed from the literal
Babylonians, but the book of Revelation
pictures a spiritual Israel being saved
from spiritual Babylon. Both rescues are
made possible through the drying up of
the Euphrates River, and both are accom-
plished by kings of the east.
    Here we encounter an important
    principle of prophetic interpretation. The
immediate fulfillment is always literal and
local, while the future prophetic fulfill-
ment is always spiritual and worldwide.
Thus, God’s people in one instance are
the nation of Israel, and in the later case
are His faithful people of all nations and
races; in other words, two Israels—one
physical in the book of Daniel, and the
other spiritual in the book of Revelation.
Two drying ups—one literally in the past,
and one symbolically in the future.
This leads us to the conclusion that
the battle of Armageddon, as portrayed
in Revelation, is not a literal battle
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 7 5/13/10 5:36 PM 8 Three Unclean Spirits
between East and West, but the spiritual
climax of the 6,000-year conflict between
Christ and Satan. Here the great adver-
sary is symbolized as making a final at-
tack against the people of God to destroy
them. Using a combination of earthly
powers he will influence world govern-
ments to unite in a program to wipe out
those who refuse to receive his mark of
authority. Those who stand loyal to God’s
law in the face of overwhelming opposi-
tion will finally be condemned to death.
This is what Armageddon is all about.
John tells us that water represents
people. “The waters which thou sawest
… are peoples, and multitudes, and na-
    tions, and tongues” (Revelation 17:15).
The harlot woman who sits on the “many
waters” is identified as the apostate reli-
gious system. Drying up of the water rep-
resents the drying up of support by those
multitudes that had been deluded by the
woman and her spiritual daughters. The
Bible declares that they “shall hate the
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 8 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 9
whore, and shall make her desolate …
and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with
    fire” (Revelation 17:16). Unfortunately,
that awakening will come too late to re-
verse the fate of those who will have al-
ready been sealed in apostasy and error.
But who are the “kings of the east” in
Revelation whose coming is preceded by
these dramatic events? Whatever is sym-
bolized here must follow on the heels of
the three unclean spirits gathering the
whole world to the Battle of Armageddon.
Cyrus, king of the east, brought deliver-
ance to Israel in the Old Testament, but
who are the kings of the east in the book
of Revelation who will save spiritual Israel
from the wrath of spiritual Babylon?
    The Scriptures describe only one
rescue operation from the east after that
final gathering of the nations. “For as
the lightening cometh out of the east,
and shineth even unto the west; so shall
also the coming of the Son of man be”
(Matthew 24:27). It is from that same
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 9 5/13/10 5:36 PM 10 Three Unclean Spirits
direction that the sealing angel ascends
to mark the saints for their deliverance.
“And I saw another angel ascending from
the east, having the seal of the living
    God” (Revelation 7:2).
    The prophet Ezekiel identifies the
east as God’s special place of abode and
operation. “And, behold, the glory of the
God of Israel came from the way of the
east” (Ezekiel 43:2). These verses leave
no doubt that the kings of the east sym-
bolize the glorious intervention of Jesus
and the armies of heaven in dealing with
the warring factions of this earth. We
note once more the inspired account of
the opposing forces that will clash in this
last encounter between good and evil.
Revelation 16:12 speaks of the “kings
of the east” and verse 14 describes the
other side as “the kings of the earth.”
What a contest! The great controversy
reaches its final stages in this cosmic
involvement of every soul who lives on
    planet earth.
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 10 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 11
What circumstances lead up to the
gathering of all nations to this apocalyp-
tic Armageddon? John gives a graphic
account of it: “And I saw three unclean
spirits like frogs come out of the mouth
of the dragon, and out of the mouth of
the beast, and out of the mouth of the
false prophet. For they are the spirits
of devils, working miracles, which go
forth unto the kings of the earth and of
the whole world, to gather them to the
battle of that great day of God Almighty.
… And he gathered them together into
a place called in the Hebrew tongue
    Armageddon” (Revelation 16:13–16).
    Three Spirits Like Frogs
Now we are prepared to identify the
three major actors who will set the
stage for this end-time holocaust. Time
does not allow us to give the prophetic
and historical background on each of the
    miracle-working trio who influence the
earthly rulers to war against God. Suffice
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 11 5/13/10 5:36 PM 12 Three Unclean Spirits
it to say that all three—the beast, drag-
on, and false prophet—are portrayed as
being used by demonic power in their
gathering of nations to the battle of
    Armageddon.
From the days of Martin Luther to
    the present, Bible commentators have
recognized the papacy as the fulfillment
of the score of biblical tests relating to the
beast power. It was to rise among the na-
tions of Western Europe, uprooting three
    tribes, speaking blasphemy, persecuting
all opponents, ruling for 1,260 years, and
    finally receiving a deadly wound.
Only the papal system fulfills all of
    those characteristics so clearly delin-
eated in both Daniel and Revelation.
The deadly wound was given in 1798,
at the end of an exact political reign
of 1,260 years, and the pope was taken
    prisoner by French Revolutionary forc-
    es dispatched by Napoleon Bonaparte.
This makes it clear that the modern pa-
pacy will indeed be one of the powerful
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 12 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 13
catalysts that will bring on the ultimate
threat against the remnant of the seed of
    the woman (Revelation 12:17).
The second force in the preparation
for Armageddon will be the dragon.
This is the symbol of satanic power in its
    most virulent and confrontational form.
Certainly this would include every as-
pect of pagan worship, but specifically, it
would also relate to the more respected
    elements of occultism, Spiritualism, and
New Age, which have been adopted by
    many Christians today.
None can deny that churches of
    various persuasions have embraced the
doctrine of the natural immortality of
the soul, the very root and foundation
of all attempts to communicate with
the dead. Such a belief opens the door
for almost every form of modern New
    Age deception, including Spiritualism
and the mind sciences. Thus, a strong
sympathetic chain has been forged be-
    tween Christianity and paganism. Such
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 13 5/13/10 5:36 PM 14 Three Unclean Spirits
a federation will be one of the major
influences in stirring up the kings of
the earth to battle against the remnant
of the woman, and finally, against the
armies of heaven. “And the dragon was
wroth with the woman, and went to
make war with the remnant of her seed,
which keep the commandments of God,
and have the testimony of Jesus Christ”
    (Revelation 12:17).
The third symbolic power that will
prepare the world for the battle of that
great day is described as the false prophet.
He, like the others, causes miracles to be
performed in order to effect a gathering
of the nations to that last battle between
Christ and Satan. Who is this false proph-
et? We find a clue in Revelation 19 that
describes the disastrous outcome of the
battle for the enemies of Christ. “And the
beast was taken, and with him the false
prophet that wrought miracles before him,
with which he deceived them that had re-
ceived the mark of the beast” (v. 20).
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 14 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 15
This text describes how the false
prophet works miracles in relation to
those who receive the mark of the beast.
Does the Bible identify the one who car-
ries out these counterfeit miracles? In
Revelation 13 we read, “And I beheld an-
    other beast coming up out of the earth;
and he had two horns like a lamb, and
he spake as a dragon. … And he doeth
great wonders, so that he maketh fire
come down from heaven on the earth
in the sight of men, And deceiveth them
that dwell on the earth by means of those
miracles which he had power to do in
the sight of the beast. … And he causeth
all, both small and great, … to receive a
mark in their right hand, or in their fore-
    heads” (vs. 11–16).
    By putting these verses together
we discover that the second beast of
Revelation 13 is the false prophet who
also works miracles and causes all to re-
ceive the mark. Even the nature of the
miracles is detailed by John: “he maketh
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 15 5/13/10 5:36 PM 16 Three Unclean Spirits
fire come down from heaven on the earth
in the sight of men” (v. 13). The descrip-
tion of this second beast establishes be-
yond question that the prophet is talk-
ing about Protestant America in its rise
to world dominance. Note the signifi-
cant reference to “coming up” as the first
beast received its deadly wound. Was the
United States rising to power in the very
year the papacy went down? Indeed, in
1798 America was first recognized as
a world power—the very year of the
    papal wound.
Contrary to the first beast rising out
of the water, representing many peo-
ple, the two-horned second beast came
up out of the earth, signifying a place
of no former civilization and peoples
    (Revelation 13:11).
The absence of crowns on its two
horns also indicates a peaceful democ-
racy in contrast to the crowns on the
horns of the first beast that symbolized
monarchies or dictatorships. It is also
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 16 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 17
interesting to note, in passing, that the
miracles had to do with bringing fire
from heaven. John added that the work
of the false prophet was like frogs, going
    forth to deceive.
Frogs capture their prey with their
tongues, and the false prophet bring-
ing fire down from heaven sounds
very much like a counterfeit Pentecost.
These symbols may well indicate how
    pseudo-Christian concepts will form
a link between paganism and apostate
    Protestantism. The false prophet, instead
of representing the United States as a po-
litical entity only, would extend to the
“image of the beast” and portray fallen,
    compromised Protestantism doing the
work of the first beast, or Catholicism.
    Church and State Unite
There is no question but that Satan
has woven an age-long network pat-
tern of pagan infiltration in both govern-
ment and religion. It has been done so
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 17 5/13/10 5:36 PM 18 Three Unclean Spirits
cleverly, over the ages, that few recognize
how much common ground now exists
    in these powerful institutions. Sunday,
the ancient day of licentious sun wor-
ship for every heathen culture, has been
so artfully sanitized that it is now the ac-
cepted substitute for the biblical seventh-
day Sabbath in both secular and reli-
gious settings. Incredibly, this has been
    accomplished while both church and
state still give recognition to the moral
nature of the Ten Commandments that
    declare unequivocally that “the seventh
day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God”
    (Exodus 20:10).
Consider the ease with which gov-
ernment can now lend support to a rest
day which they themselves recognize by
closing up all official functions of their
    own operation on Sunday. Repeatedly,
laws have been instituted and enforced to
make it a crime to violate the supposed
sanctity of a day dedicated originally to
satanic sun worship. Amazing? Indeed, it
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 18 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 19
is the most incredible religious fraud of
the ages and one that only the prince of
    evil could have perpetrated.
Then, we must marvel again at the
respectable status accorded to the New
Age movement whose tentacles have ex-
    tended equally through both religious
    and non-religious communities. Finally,
the devil has been able to effect a revival
of his most primitive approach to the
human race. Through a variety of mod-
    ern titles and high-sounding techniques,
Satan is channeling his evil principles
directly into the minds of millions today
who cannot recognize that they are actu-
ally learning to worship Satan. All who
subscribe to the pagan concept of a natu-
rally immortal soul are vulnerable to the
New Age appeal to communicate with
    these supposed “Spirit Masters.”
    Charismatic worshippers who have
been conditioned by emotional and sen-
sory manifestations stand in the great-
est danger of being deceived by the New
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 19 5/13/10 5:36 PM 20 Three Unclean Spirits
Age and Spiritualism appeal. Those who
trust feeling as a valid test of true reli-
gion do not easily discern counterfeit
gifts. Prophecy indicates that a counter-
feit “tongues” could be one aspect of the
three-fold preparation for the final de-
    ception.
Coming back to the words of the
prophet, we now see the tri-lateral ap-
proach that Satan will make to the kings
of the earth to prepare them for their
part in Armageddon. Every effort will
be made by our great enemy to unite
secular and religious powers to de-
stroy the little remnant people which
“keep the commandments of God and
have the testimony of Jesus Christ”
    (Revelation 12:17).
    Satan’s wrath is especially aimed
against the law of God. He hates it be-
cause it constitutes the foundation of
God’s government. He despises the saints
who are repeatedly described in the book
of Revelation as those who “keep the
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 20 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 21
    commandments of God” (Revelation
    14:12; 12:17; 22:14).
Thus far we have discovered that the
    common ground of Spiritualism (im-
    mortal soul), counterfeit tongues, and
New Age errors will cement an end-time
    alliance between apostate Protestantism,
    Catholicism, and secular governments—
an alliance which will unite them against
    the unpopular minority who refuse
the mark of the beast. Under the influ-
ence of this confederation the nations of
the earth, following the example of the
United States, will be led to issue a death
decree against all who will not receive
    that mark.
    Counterfeit Miracles and
    the Kings of the Earth
    I
t is interesting, at this point, to ob-
serve how this grand objective of
unified action will be accomplished by
these diverse political and religious en-
tities. Some have held that they will be
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 21 5/13/10 5:36 PM 22 Three Unclean Spirits
    drawn together by economic necessity,
as related world finances experience si-
    multaneous collapse. Without discount-
ing this and other possible factors, we
must recognize that the prophecy itself
plainly bears witness to the primary role
of demonic miracles as the basic bond-
ing force pulling the nations together for
the final action against God’s people and
His government. In other words, it seems
less political than it does spiritual from
    the biblical viewpoint.
Right now we can only speculate
about the nature of those signs and
wonders that Satan will use to impress
the kings of the earth. With the rising
influence of Spiritualism in many reli-
gious bodies and the growing emphasis
on miracles and emotional feeling as
the criteria of truth, we can expect some
grandiose display of demonic power that
will capture the attention and interest of
every country in the world. We know
that the great deceiver will impersonate
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 22 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 23
the coming of Jesus in some spectacular
manner, and no one should doubt that
    such miraculous displays could make
    intellectual believers and cooperators
    out of Moslems, Hindus, Buddhists,
Communists, or any other strain of na-
    tional or religious identity.
    And don’t discount the providen-
tial influences that will be operating on
    the other side—God’s side—to prepare
for the final events of the great contro-
versy. Even though Satan is the tempo-
rary prince of this world, God still has
oversight of the rise and fall of nations.
A divine destiny is even now influenc-
ing the political processes and pressures
in which certain relationships are being
    established between countries.
    The most atheistic observers have
counted the rapid fall of international
    communism as an incredible develop-
ment very close to a miracle. And almost
everyone describes the lightning victory of
the allied forces over Saddam Hussein as
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 23 5/13/10 5:36 PM 24 Three Unclean Spirits
    an unbelievable, impossible accomplish-
ment. How could such a war be fought
with so few casualties on one side? Yet in
each of these recent cataclysmic actions—
the fall of communism and the United
States victory over Iraq—the results have
been to place America in a center-stage
position of influence over all the other na-
tions. This is exactly what is demanded by
the prophecy of Revelation 13. This coun-
try will “deceive them that dwell on the
earth … And he causeth all, both small
and great, rich and poor, free and bond,
to receive a mark in their right hand, or
    in their foreheads” (Revelation 13:14–16).
Another shocking activity of the sec-
ond beast of Revelation 13 apparently is
produced after it loses its lamblike qual-
ity and begins to speak as a dragon. John
wrote, “And he exerciseth all the power
of the first beast before him, and causeth
the earth and them which dwell therein
to worship the first beast, whose deadly
    wound was healed” (Revelation 13:12).
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 24 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 25
As we have already discovered, the
deadly wound was given to the papacy in
1798, and it has been in the process of
healing since 1929 when the Vatican was
established as a political state once again.
According to this prophecy, the United
States will begin to exercise a similar reli-
gious intolerance as the Catholic Church
and will use her influence to cause peo-
ple allover the world to give spiritual al-
    legiance to that church.
    If this scenario seemed far-fetched
and unlikely at some time in the past, it
certainly is not that way today. The grow-
ing political influence of Pope John Paul II
in world affairs is a phenomenon of the
very recent past. The United States has
    appointed an official representative to
the head of that church state, and some
amazing concessions have been made to
accommodate the pope in his pilgrimage
visits to this and other countries.
    A very significant statement ap-
peared in the August 13, 1990, issue of
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 25 5/13/10 5:36 PM 26 Three Unclean Spirits
U.S. News and World Report magazine.
“Pope John Paul II discusses world af-
fairs on the telephone with George Bush
and Mikhail Gorbachev at least once a
    week, according to Professor Malachi
    Martin, a Roman Catholic theologian
and Vatican insider. … Martin says
the Pope offers the President informed
analyses prepared by the Vatican’s intel-
    ligence network about developments in
Eastern Europe and his personal assess-
ments of the new leaders there as well as
    in the Soviet Union.”
    Such an unseemly alliance between
papal churchmen and the heads of na-
tions is certainly a violation of the tra-
    ditional American concept of separa-
tion of church and state. But it fits in
perfectly with the prophetic scenario of
final events. Many students of proph-
ecy found it difficult to believe that
Catholicism could ever regain her pow-
erful political clout after the “deadly
    wound” experience of the eighteenth
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 26 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 27
century. It was felt that Communist
    totalitarianism would always be around
to limit the expansionistic aims of the pa-
pacy. The two giant opposing forces were
perceived as a necessary balance against
each other so that neither could gain
    authoritarian superiority.
Now all that has changed. It is gen-
erally recognized that the Pope played a
significant role in the collapse of interna-
tional communism. The recent book The
Keys of This Blood, written just before the
iron curtain began its rapid dissolution,
    describes the obsessive determination
of the present Pope to bring the entire
world order under the spiritual domina-
tion of the so-called Holy See of Rome.
    The author describes the concentrated
focus of the papal attack on the com-
munistic system, long recognized as the
greatest obstacle to the Church’s goal.
If time allowed, we could study the
prophecy of Daniel 11 where the pre-
cise victory of the king of the North
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 27 5/13/10 5:36 PM 28 Three Unclean Spirits
(Catholicism) over the king of the South
    (Atheistic communism) is clearly pre-
dicted. For three tense, dramatic days in
August 1991, the world held its breath as
the Russian coup appeared to reverse the
prophetic agenda for the little time re-
maining. Now, the road seems to be wide
open for the Catholic power to fulfill its
particular role, along with the dragon
    and the false prophet.
Beginning with verse 40, we read
the account of a mighty struggle tak-
ing place at the time of the end between
these two contending forces. The iden-
tity of these symbolic kings can be es-
tablished by comparing a few texts. In
Isaiah 30:6, 7 the land of Egypt is identified
as “of the south.” John the Revelator re-
fers to France’s period of atheism around
1798 as that “which spiritually is called
    Sodom and Egypt” (Revelation 11:8).
Thus, we find the land of the Pharaohs
connected to atheism. Indeed, it was the
king of Egypt who made the proud boast,
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 28 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 29
“Who is the Lord, that I should obey his
    voice?” (Exodus 5:2).
    As Daniel describes the continuing
conflict between the king of the north
and king of the south, we are made aware
that his symbol of Egypt has come to rep-
resent not just the arrogant spirit of that
large country south of Israel but last-day
atheism in whatever form it is manifest.
Communism is the virulent form that
atheism has assumed for the past many
years, and much of Daniel 11 is describing
the life and death clash of communism
with its great foe, the king of the north.
But who is this antagonist from the
north who finally gains the ascendancy
over the powers of atheism? Here are some
texts that show beyond question that the
primary application of this symbol was to
Babylon. “Toward the north by the river
Euphrates,” “in the north country by the
river Euphrates,” “all the families of the
north … and Nebuchadnezzar the king
    of Babylon” (Jeremiah 46:6; 46:10; 25:9).
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 29 5/13/10 5:36 PM 30 Three Unclean Spirits
The literal city of Babylon was built
right over the Euphrates River, but there
    is another future, spiritual applica-
tion of Babylon revealed in the book of
Revelation. The very last part of Daniel
11 also deals with the symbolic king of
the north, or spiritual Babylon. Many
phrases in this chapter give positive evi-
dence that this power is the papacy. For
instance: it shall “pollute the sanctuary,”
“take away the daily sacrifice,” “magnify
himself above all,” and “corrupt with flat-
    teries” (Daniel 11:31, 32).
Now consider the high drama of this
prediction in Daniel 11:40. “And at the
time of the end shall the king of the south
push at him: and the king of the north
shall come against him like a whirlwind,
… and he shall enter into the countries,
and shall overflow and pass over.”
How significant it is that Newsweek
magazine on December 25, 1989, trum-
peted the news of the fall of communism
in these words, “Days of the Whirlwind.”
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 30 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 31
    Commentary after commentary gave
credit to the Pope for bringing down
Gorbachev and the iron grip of atheism
on Eastern Europe. The prophecy said it
would be “like a whirlwind” and that is
exactly how the media reported it.
Bible students have long debated how
the whole world could be influenced to
wonder after the beast, and also how the
kings of the earth could be drawn into
that final encounter between good and
evil. Now we can see how the greatest
barrier has been removed, and the three
unclean spirits are working through the
beast, dragon, and false prophet to in-
volve every soul in that “battle of the
    great day of God.”
What an age to be alive! Excitement
mounts as we ride the crest of towering
events that sweep us toward the grand cli-
max of history—the coming of Jesus. We
need to be constantly aware of the fast-
breaking signs that point to His return,
but our preparation for that moment
    ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 31 5/13/10 5:36 PM 32 Three Unclean Spirits
in time involves more than knowledge.
Only the pure in heart will see God and
live in His presence. A total commitment
of heart, mind, and body is the greatest
    need of every living soul.
While the angels of Revelation hold
the four winds of strife from blowing on
the earth, and the glory of God gathers
in the eastern skies, a final invitation is
beginning to confront every man, wom-
an, and child on this crumbling planet.
“Come out of her, my people” is the call
of the hour. God is gathering His faith-
ful ones, who love Him supremely, to
Mount Zion, the place of safety and
salvation. The three unclean spirits are
gathering the forces of apostate religion
    and compromising governments to the
great day of battle. Today we stand in the valley of decision.
A Little Light Reading. Three Unclean Spirit's Joe Crews. The book of Revelation is different from any other part of the Bible. As a prophetic history of the church of all the ages, it is quite largely a book of quotes. Someone has calculated that out of 404 verses, 276 are either directly quoted or paraphrased from the Old Testament Scriptures. It seems clearly evident that no one can properly understand this last book of the inspired canon unless he also has a close familiarity with the writings of Moses and the prophets. This may account for the vast confu- sion that exists today over the meaning of John’s apocalyptic beasts and sym- bolic horsemen. The so-called “New By Joe Crews ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 1 5/13/10 5:36 PM 2 Three Unclean Spirits Testament” church bodies that view the Old Testament as only fulfillments of an antiquated past would certainly find no relevance in the writings of John the Revelator. Paul wrote, “… all scripture is giv- en by inspiration of God, and is profit- able for doctrine, for reproof, for cor- rection, for instruction in righteous- ness” (2 Timothy 3:16). Since the New Testament had not yet been written, we can be certain that he was referring to the Old Testament Scriptures. “For whatso- ever things were written aforetime were written for our learning,” Paul declared in Romans 15:4. These texts establish that the com- posite prophecies of Revelation are espe- cially applicable to our own day and were inspired for our “doctrine,” “learning,” and “instruction in righteousness.” Just as the book of Genesis delineates the beginning of the great controversy between good and evil, the last book ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 2 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 3 of the Bible describes the close of the conflict. This makes it one of the most important books in the sacred Scriptures. It describes the kind of people God will take to heaven and how they become overcomers by the blood of the Lamb. It warns, also, against the final assaults that Satan will throw against the saints as the battle rages to its climax. What a docu- ment! And how the devil hates this book that exposes his origin, devices, and final destiny! Can we logically expect Satan to at- tack these prophecies which lay open his deceptive plans and purposes? How has he done it? By introducing futurism, the adversary has struck a blow at the foun- dation of prophetic understanding. The biblical principle of historicism that es- tablishes a “day for a year” has been re- jected, and an unwarranted literalism has been applied to the great lines of proph- ecy laid out in Daniel and Revelation. Specifically, this type of confused ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 3 5/13/10 5:36 PM 4 Three Unclean Spirits hermeneutics has been utilized in the study of Armageddon and the king of the north. The symbolic portrayal of those events from the pen of the Revelator pro- vides a key for correcting the error. “And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spir- its like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of dev- ils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the bat- tle of that great day of God Almighty. Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon” (Revelation 16:12–16). ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 4 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 5 Armageddon—A Spiritual Battle This is probably the key text in the Bible relating to the great world-end- ing struggle between Christ and Satan. Immediately, we can see that many sym- bols are brought to light in these verses. The beast, and dragon, and false prophet are not literal at all. And what can we say about the clothes described in verse 15? Why would this peculiar interruption take place in the midst of a description of Armageddon? These clothes are the gar- ments of salvation and refer directly to the “fine linen” of that robe of righteous- ness described in Revelation 19:8. From these verses also we notice that the coming of Jesus “as a thief ’ is related to the drying up of the river Euphrates and the appearing of the “kings of the east.” And even the Battle of Armageddon is tied to these events. Do these phrases sound familiar? They should, because the same language is used in Isaiah 44:27 to describe the fall of ancient Babylon. ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 5 5/13/10 5:36 PM 6 Three Unclean Spirits Cyrus actually “dried up” the Euphrates River and thus delivered the literal Jews from Babylonian captivity. After refer- ring to Cyrus as “the righteous man from the east” in Isaiah 41:2, Isaiah speaks of him as one who would “dry up thy riv- ers” and “open … the two leaved gates” (Isaiah 44:27, 28; 45:1). Historians recognize these as refer- ences to the clever battle plan of King Cyrus to enter the city via the water gates through the wall, after the water had been diverted from its channel. Since the river flowed through the midst of Babylon, this ruse was a perfect means of access into the city while the drunken king par- tied with his military leaders. Why is Revelation predicting a future drying up of Euphrates and an end-time deliverance of God’s people? Hasn’t this all been fulfilled in the days of Daniel the prophet? It has in its primary literal fulfillment, but John reveals that there is a secondary, symbolic application of ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 6 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 7 those events. In the historical account, the literal Jews were freed from the literal Babylonians, but the book of Revelation pictures a spiritual Israel being saved from spiritual Babylon. Both rescues are made possible through the drying up of the Euphrates River, and both are accom- plished by kings of the east. Here we encounter an important principle of prophetic interpretation. The immediate fulfillment is always literal and local, while the future prophetic fulfill- ment is always spiritual and worldwide. Thus, God’s people in one instance are the nation of Israel, and in the later case are His faithful people of all nations and races; in other words, two Israels—one physical in the book of Daniel, and the other spiritual in the book of Revelation. Two drying ups—one literally in the past, and one symbolically in the future. This leads us to the conclusion that the battle of Armageddon, as portrayed in Revelation, is not a literal battle ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 7 5/13/10 5:36 PM 8 Three Unclean Spirits between East and West, but the spiritual climax of the 6,000-year conflict between Christ and Satan. Here the great adver- sary is symbolized as making a final at- tack against the people of God to destroy them. Using a combination of earthly powers he will influence world govern- ments to unite in a program to wipe out those who refuse to receive his mark of authority. Those who stand loyal to God’s law in the face of overwhelming opposi- tion will finally be condemned to death. This is what Armageddon is all about. John tells us that water represents people. “The waters which thou sawest … are peoples, and multitudes, and na- tions, and tongues” (Revelation 17:15). The harlot woman who sits on the “many waters” is identified as the apostate reli- gious system. Drying up of the water rep- resents the drying up of support by those multitudes that had been deluded by the woman and her spiritual daughters. The Bible declares that they “shall hate the ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 8 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 9 whore, and shall make her desolate … and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire” (Revelation 17:16). Unfortunately, that awakening will come too late to re- verse the fate of those who will have al- ready been sealed in apostasy and error. But who are the “kings of the east” in Revelation whose coming is preceded by these dramatic events? Whatever is sym- bolized here must follow on the heels of the three unclean spirits gathering the whole world to the Battle of Armageddon. Cyrus, king of the east, brought deliver- ance to Israel in the Old Testament, but who are the kings of the east in the book of Revelation who will save spiritual Israel from the wrath of spiritual Babylon? The Scriptures describe only one rescue operation from the east after that final gathering of the nations. “For as the lightening cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be” (Matthew 24:27). It is from that same ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 9 5/13/10 5:36 PM 10 Three Unclean Spirits direction that the sealing angel ascends to mark the saints for their deliverance. “And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God” (Revelation 7:2). The prophet Ezekiel identifies the east as God’s special place of abode and operation. “And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east” (Ezekiel 43:2). These verses leave no doubt that the kings of the east sym- bolize the glorious intervention of Jesus and the armies of heaven in dealing with the warring factions of this earth. We note once more the inspired account of the opposing forces that will clash in this last encounter between good and evil. Revelation 16:12 speaks of the “kings of the east” and verse 14 describes the other side as “the kings of the earth.” What a contest! The great controversy reaches its final stages in this cosmic involvement of every soul who lives on planet earth. ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 10 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 11 What circumstances lead up to the gathering of all nations to this apocalyp- tic Armageddon? John gives a graphic account of it: “And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. … And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon” (Revelation 16:13–16). Three Spirits Like Frogs Now we are prepared to identify the three major actors who will set the stage for this end-time holocaust. Time does not allow us to give the prophetic and historical background on each of the miracle-working trio who influence the earthly rulers to war against God. Suffice ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 11 5/13/10 5:36 PM 12 Three Unclean Spirits it to say that all three—the beast, drag- on, and false prophet—are portrayed as being used by demonic power in their gathering of nations to the battle of Armageddon. From the days of Martin Luther to the present, Bible commentators have recognized the papacy as the fulfillment of the score of biblical tests relating to the beast power. It was to rise among the na- tions of Western Europe, uprooting three tribes, speaking blasphemy, persecuting all opponents, ruling for 1,260 years, and finally receiving a deadly wound. Only the papal system fulfills all of those characteristics so clearly delin- eated in both Daniel and Revelation. The deadly wound was given in 1798, at the end of an exact political reign of 1,260 years, and the pope was taken prisoner by French Revolutionary forc- es dispatched by Napoleon Bonaparte. This makes it clear that the modern pa- pacy will indeed be one of the powerful ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 12 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 13 catalysts that will bring on the ultimate threat against the remnant of the seed of the woman (Revelation 12:17). The second force in the preparation for Armageddon will be the dragon. This is the symbol of satanic power in its most virulent and confrontational form. Certainly this would include every as- pect of pagan worship, but specifically, it would also relate to the more respected elements of occultism, Spiritualism, and New Age, which have been adopted by many Christians today. None can deny that churches of various persuasions have embraced the doctrine of the natural immortality of the soul, the very root and foundation of all attempts to communicate with the dead. Such a belief opens the door for almost every form of modern New Age deception, including Spiritualism and the mind sciences. Thus, a strong sympathetic chain has been forged be- tween Christianity and paganism. Such ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 13 5/13/10 5:36 PM 14 Three Unclean Spirits a federation will be one of the major influences in stirring up the kings of the earth to battle against the remnant of the woman, and finally, against the armies of heaven. “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 12:17). The third symbolic power that will prepare the world for the battle of that great day is described as the false prophet. He, like the others, causes miracles to be performed in order to effect a gathering of the nations to that last battle between Christ and Satan. Who is this false proph- et? We find a clue in Revelation 19 that describes the disastrous outcome of the battle for the enemies of Christ. “And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had re- ceived the mark of the beast” (v. 20). ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 14 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 15 This text describes how the false prophet works miracles in relation to those who receive the mark of the beast. Does the Bible identify the one who car- ries out these counterfeit miracles? In Revelation 13 we read, “And I beheld an- other beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. … And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast. … And he causeth all, both small and great, … to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their fore- heads” (vs. 11–16). By putting these verses together we discover that the second beast of Revelation 13 is the false prophet who also works miracles and causes all to re- ceive the mark. Even the nature of the miracles is detailed by John: “he maketh ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 15 5/13/10 5:36 PM 16 Three Unclean Spirits fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men” (v. 13). The descrip- tion of this second beast establishes be- yond question that the prophet is talk- ing about Protestant America in its rise to world dominance. Note the signifi- cant reference to “coming up” as the first beast received its deadly wound. Was the United States rising to power in the very year the papacy went down? Indeed, in 1798 America was first recognized as a world power—the very year of the papal wound. Contrary to the first beast rising out of the water, representing many peo- ple, the two-horned second beast came up out of the earth, signifying a place of no former civilization and peoples (Revelation 13:11). The absence of crowns on its two horns also indicates a peaceful democ- racy in contrast to the crowns on the horns of the first beast that symbolized monarchies or dictatorships. It is also ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 16 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 17 interesting to note, in passing, that the miracles had to do with bringing fire from heaven. John added that the work of the false prophet was like frogs, going forth to deceive. Frogs capture their prey with their tongues, and the false prophet bring- ing fire down from heaven sounds very much like a counterfeit Pentecost. These symbols may well indicate how pseudo-Christian concepts will form a link between paganism and apostate Protestantism. The false prophet, instead of representing the United States as a po- litical entity only, would extend to the “image of the beast” and portray fallen, compromised Protestantism doing the work of the first beast, or Catholicism. Church and State Unite There is no question but that Satan has woven an age-long network pat- tern of pagan infiltration in both govern- ment and religion. It has been done so ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 17 5/13/10 5:36 PM 18 Three Unclean Spirits cleverly, over the ages, that few recognize how much common ground now exists in these powerful institutions. Sunday, the ancient day of licentious sun wor- ship for every heathen culture, has been so artfully sanitized that it is now the ac- cepted substitute for the biblical seventh- day Sabbath in both secular and reli- gious settings. Incredibly, this has been accomplished while both church and state still give recognition to the moral nature of the Ten Commandments that declare unequivocally that “the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God” (Exodus 20:10). Consider the ease with which gov- ernment can now lend support to a rest day which they themselves recognize by closing up all official functions of their own operation on Sunday. Repeatedly, laws have been instituted and enforced to make it a crime to violate the supposed sanctity of a day dedicated originally to satanic sun worship. Amazing? Indeed, it ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 18 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 19 is the most incredible religious fraud of the ages and one that only the prince of evil could have perpetrated. Then, we must marvel again at the respectable status accorded to the New Age movement whose tentacles have ex- tended equally through both religious and non-religious communities. Finally, the devil has been able to effect a revival of his most primitive approach to the human race. Through a variety of mod- ern titles and high-sounding techniques, Satan is channeling his evil principles directly into the minds of millions today who cannot recognize that they are actu- ally learning to worship Satan. All who subscribe to the pagan concept of a natu- rally immortal soul are vulnerable to the New Age appeal to communicate with these supposed “Spirit Masters.” Charismatic worshippers who have been conditioned by emotional and sen- sory manifestations stand in the great- est danger of being deceived by the New ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 19 5/13/10 5:36 PM 20 Three Unclean Spirits Age and Spiritualism appeal. Those who trust feeling as a valid test of true reli- gion do not easily discern counterfeit gifts. Prophecy indicates that a counter- feit “tongues” could be one aspect of the three-fold preparation for the final de- ception. Coming back to the words of the prophet, we now see the tri-lateral ap- proach that Satan will make to the kings of the earth to prepare them for their part in Armageddon. Every effort will be made by our great enemy to unite secular and religious powers to de- stroy the little remnant people which “keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 12:17). Satan’s wrath is especially aimed against the law of God. He hates it be- cause it constitutes the foundation of God’s government. He despises the saints who are repeatedly described in the book of Revelation as those who “keep the ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 20 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 21 commandments of God” (Revelation 14:12; 12:17; 22:14). Thus far we have discovered that the common ground of Spiritualism (im- mortal soul), counterfeit tongues, and New Age errors will cement an end-time alliance between apostate Protestantism, Catholicism, and secular governments— an alliance which will unite them against the unpopular minority who refuse the mark of the beast. Under the influ- ence of this confederation the nations of the earth, following the example of the United States, will be led to issue a death decree against all who will not receive that mark. Counterfeit Miracles and the Kings of the Earth I t is interesting, at this point, to ob- serve how this grand objective of unified action will be accomplished by these diverse political and religious en- tities. Some have held that they will be ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 21 5/13/10 5:36 PM 22 Three Unclean Spirits drawn together by economic necessity, as related world finances experience si- multaneous collapse. Without discount- ing this and other possible factors, we must recognize that the prophecy itself plainly bears witness to the primary role of demonic miracles as the basic bond- ing force pulling the nations together for the final action against God’s people and His government. In other words, it seems less political than it does spiritual from the biblical viewpoint. Right now we can only speculate about the nature of those signs and wonders that Satan will use to impress the kings of the earth. With the rising influence of Spiritualism in many reli- gious bodies and the growing emphasis on miracles and emotional feeling as the criteria of truth, we can expect some grandiose display of demonic power that will capture the attention and interest of every country in the world. We know that the great deceiver will impersonate ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 22 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 23 the coming of Jesus in some spectacular manner, and no one should doubt that such miraculous displays could make intellectual believers and cooperators out of Moslems, Hindus, Buddhists, Communists, or any other strain of na- tional or religious identity. And don’t discount the providen- tial influences that will be operating on the other side—God’s side—to prepare for the final events of the great contro- versy. Even though Satan is the tempo- rary prince of this world, God still has oversight of the rise and fall of nations. A divine destiny is even now influenc- ing the political processes and pressures in which certain relationships are being established between countries. The most atheistic observers have counted the rapid fall of international communism as an incredible develop- ment very close to a miracle. And almost everyone describes the lightning victory of the allied forces over Saddam Hussein as ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 23 5/13/10 5:36 PM 24 Three Unclean Spirits an unbelievable, impossible accomplish- ment. How could such a war be fought with so few casualties on one side? Yet in each of these recent cataclysmic actions— the fall of communism and the United States victory over Iraq—the results have been to place America in a center-stage position of influence over all the other na- tions. This is exactly what is demanded by the prophecy of Revelation 13. This coun- try will “deceive them that dwell on the earth … And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads” (Revelation 13:14–16). Another shocking activity of the sec- ond beast of Revelation 13 apparently is produced after it loses its lamblike qual- ity and begins to speak as a dragon. John wrote, “And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed” (Revelation 13:12). ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 24 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 25 As we have already discovered, the deadly wound was given to the papacy in 1798, and it has been in the process of healing since 1929 when the Vatican was established as a political state once again. According to this prophecy, the United States will begin to exercise a similar reli- gious intolerance as the Catholic Church and will use her influence to cause peo- ple allover the world to give spiritual al- legiance to that church. If this scenario seemed far-fetched and unlikely at some time in the past, it certainly is not that way today. The grow- ing political influence of Pope John Paul II in world affairs is a phenomenon of the very recent past. The United States has appointed an official representative to the head of that church state, and some amazing concessions have been made to accommodate the pope in his pilgrimage visits to this and other countries. A very significant statement ap- peared in the August 13, 1990, issue of ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 25 5/13/10 5:36 PM 26 Three Unclean Spirits U.S. News and World Report magazine. “Pope John Paul II discusses world af- fairs on the telephone with George Bush and Mikhail Gorbachev at least once a week, according to Professor Malachi Martin, a Roman Catholic theologian and Vatican insider. … Martin says the Pope offers the President informed analyses prepared by the Vatican’s intel- ligence network about developments in Eastern Europe and his personal assess- ments of the new leaders there as well as in the Soviet Union.” Such an unseemly alliance between papal churchmen and the heads of na- tions is certainly a violation of the tra- ditional American concept of separa- tion of church and state. But it fits in perfectly with the prophetic scenario of final events. Many students of proph- ecy found it difficult to believe that Catholicism could ever regain her pow- erful political clout after the “deadly wound” experience of the eighteenth ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 26 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 27 century. It was felt that Communist totalitarianism would always be around to limit the expansionistic aims of the pa- pacy. The two giant opposing forces were perceived as a necessary balance against each other so that neither could gain authoritarian superiority. Now all that has changed. It is gen- erally recognized that the Pope played a significant role in the collapse of interna- tional communism. The recent book The Keys of This Blood, written just before the iron curtain began its rapid dissolution, describes the obsessive determination of the present Pope to bring the entire world order under the spiritual domina- tion of the so-called Holy See of Rome. The author describes the concentrated focus of the papal attack on the com- munistic system, long recognized as the greatest obstacle to the Church’s goal. If time allowed, we could study the prophecy of Daniel 11 where the pre- cise victory of the king of the North ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 27 5/13/10 5:36 PM 28 Three Unclean Spirits (Catholicism) over the king of the South (Atheistic communism) is clearly pre- dicted. For three tense, dramatic days in August 1991, the world held its breath as the Russian coup appeared to reverse the prophetic agenda for the little time re- maining. Now, the road seems to be wide open for the Catholic power to fulfill its particular role, along with the dragon and the false prophet. Beginning with verse 40, we read the account of a mighty struggle tak- ing place at the time of the end between these two contending forces. The iden- tity of these symbolic kings can be es- tablished by comparing a few texts. In Isaiah 30:6, 7 the land of Egypt is identified as “of the south.” John the Revelator re- fers to France’s period of atheism around 1798 as that “which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt” (Revelation 11:8). Thus, we find the land of the Pharaohs connected to atheism. Indeed, it was the king of Egypt who made the proud boast, ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 28 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 29 “Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice?” (Exodus 5:2). As Daniel describes the continuing conflict between the king of the north and king of the south, we are made aware that his symbol of Egypt has come to rep- resent not just the arrogant spirit of that large country south of Israel but last-day atheism in whatever form it is manifest. Communism is the virulent form that atheism has assumed for the past many years, and much of Daniel 11 is describing the life and death clash of communism with its great foe, the king of the north. But who is this antagonist from the north who finally gains the ascendancy over the powers of atheism? Here are some texts that show beyond question that the primary application of this symbol was to Babylon. “Toward the north by the river Euphrates,” “in the north country by the river Euphrates,” “all the families of the north … and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon” (Jeremiah 46:6; 46:10; 25:9). ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 29 5/13/10 5:36 PM 30 Three Unclean Spirits The literal city of Babylon was built right over the Euphrates River, but there is another future, spiritual applica- tion of Babylon revealed in the book of Revelation. The very last part of Daniel 11 also deals with the symbolic king of the north, or spiritual Babylon. Many phrases in this chapter give positive evi- dence that this power is the papacy. For instance: it shall “pollute the sanctuary,” “take away the daily sacrifice,” “magnify himself above all,” and “corrupt with flat- teries” (Daniel 11:31, 32). Now consider the high drama of this prediction in Daniel 11:40. “And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, … and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.” How significant it is that Newsweek magazine on December 25, 1989, trum- peted the news of the fall of communism in these words, “Days of the Whirlwind.” ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 30 5/13/10 5:36 PM Three Unclean Spirits 31 Commentary after commentary gave credit to the Pope for bringing down Gorbachev and the iron grip of atheism on Eastern Europe. The prophecy said it would be “like a whirlwind” and that is exactly how the media reported it. Bible students have long debated how the whole world could be influenced to wonder after the beast, and also how the kings of the earth could be drawn into that final encounter between good and evil. Now we can see how the greatest barrier has been removed, and the three unclean spirits are working through the beast, dragon, and false prophet to in- volve every soul in that “battle of the great day of God.” What an age to be alive! Excitement mounts as we ride the crest of towering events that sweep us toward the grand cli- max of history—the coming of Jesus. We need to be constantly aware of the fast- breaking signs that point to His return, but our preparation for that moment ThreeUncleanSpiritsUnmaskedText.indd 31 5/13/10 5:36 PM 32 Three Unclean Spirits in time involves more than knowledge. Only the pure in heart will see God and live in His presence. A total commitment of heart, mind, and body is the greatest need of every living soul. While the angels of Revelation hold the four winds of strife from blowing on the earth, and the glory of God gathers in the eastern skies, a final invitation is beginning to confront every man, wom- an, and child on this crumbling planet. “Come out of her, my people” is the call of the hour. God is gathering His faith- ful ones, who love Him supremely, to Mount Zion, the place of safety and salvation. The three unclean spirits are gathering the forces of apostate religion and compromising governments to the great day of battle. Today we stand in the valley of decision.

  • October 9, 1974.
Oskar Schindler collapsed on a street in Hildesheim, West Germany.
He was 66 years old. Overweight. Heavy drinker. Chain smoker.
An ambulance took him to the hospital, but it was too late.
    Heart failure.
When authorities searched his apartment in Frankfurt, they found almost nothing of value.
No savings. No assets. Just unpaid bills and letters from Israel—letters containing money.
For the past fifteen years, Oskar Schindler had survived on donations from the Schindlerjuden—the 1,200 Jews he'd saved during the Holocaust.
They paid his rent. They bought his food. They kept him alive.
Because by 1974, Oskar Schindler—the man who'd once been a millionaire war profiteer—had nothing left.
He'd spent his entire fortune bribing Nazis.
And then he'd failed at everything that came after.
    Let's back up.
In 1939, Oskar Schindler was not a hero.
He was a Nazi Party member. An opportunist. A womanizer. A drunk.
Born in 1908 in Zwittau, Moravia (now Czech Republic), Schindler was the son of a farm equipment manufacturer. He'd drifted through multiple trade schools, multiple jobs, multiple schemes.
He'd even worked as a spy for the Abwehr—German military intelligence—gathering information in Czechoslovakia before the war.
In 1938, Czech authorities arrested him for espionage and sentenced him to death.
Then Germany annexed the Sudetenland as part of the Munich Agreement, and Schindler was pardoned.
When Germany invaded Poland in September 1939, Schindler saw opportunity.
He moved to Kraków, where Nazi authorities were seizing Jewish-owned businesses and handing them to Germans through a process called "Aryanization."
Within a month, Schindler had acquired a formerly Jewish-owned enamelware factory called Emalia.
He was going to get rich off the war.
    And he did.
At first, Schindler was just another war profiteer.
He employed Jews from the Kraków ghetto because they were cheap labor—essentially free. He manufactured enamelware pots and pans for the German military.
He partied with SS officers. He bribed officials. He dealt on the black market.
He lived in a confiscated apartment. Drove a nice car. Had multiple mistresses.
His wife, Emilie, stayed in the background—quiet, pious, overlooked.
    But something changed.
Schindler's accountant was a Jewish man named Itzhak Stern. Stern began advising Schindler to hire more Jews—not just for profit, but for protection.
If Jews worked in a factory essential to the war effort, they couldn't be deported to death camps.
Then, in March 1943, the Kraków ghetto was liquidated.
Schindler witnessed it from horseback on a hill overlooking the city.
He saw SS troops shooting people in the streets. He saw children being torn from their parents. He saw the brutality—the pure sadism—up close.
    Something broke in him.
    Or maybe something woke up.
Later, Schindler would struggle to explain it: "I had to help. I had no choice."
To one survivor, he said: "I was a Nazi, and I believed that the Germans were doing wrong. When they started killing innocent people, it didn't mean anything to me that they were Jewish—to me they were just human beings. I decided I am going to work against them and I am going to save as many as I can."
By 1943, the nearby Płaszów concentration camp had opened under the command of SS-Hauptsturmführer Amon Göth—a sadist who shot prisoners at random from his balcony for sport.
Schindler befriended Göth. Drank with him. Flattered him. Bribed him.
And then Schindler convinced Göth to let him build a subcamp at Emalia—a place where his Jewish workers could live, separate from Płaszów's brutality.
At the Emalia subcamp, conditions were astonishingly better.
Workers received actual food—purchased by Schindler on the black market with his own money.
They were protected from random executions. They could observe religious practices.
Schindler spent his days bribing Nazi officials with liquor, money, jewelry—whatever it took.
His nights were spent dealing on the black market, acquiring food and supplies his workers needed to survive.
The cost was astronomical. But Schindler kept paying.
In July 1944, the Soviet Red Army was closing in from the east.
The SS began shutting down camps and factories, deporting prisoners to Auschwitz for extermination.
Schindler's factory was on the list.
His secretary—a Jewish prisoner named Mietek Pemper—alerted him to the plan.
Schindler made a decision: he would move his entire factory to Brünnlitz in the Sudetenland (Czechoslovakia), far from the front lines.
And he would take his workers with him.
To do this, Schindler needed a list—a list of "essential workers" he was authorized to transfer.
Pemper and a Jewish Ghetto Police officer named Marcel Goldberg compiled it, consulting with Schindler on who to include.
    The list contained 1,200 names.
Men. Women. Children. Elderly. People with disabilities.
Schindler claimed they were all "skilled munitions workers."
It was a lie. But it was a lie that saved 1,200 lives.
In October 1944, the trainloads of workers left for Brünnlitz.
The men arrived safely. But the women's train was mistakenly diverted to Auschwitz.
Schindler traveled to Auschwitz himself—bribed officials, argued, negotiated.
    He got them back.
At the Brünnlitz factory, Schindler's workers produced almost no usable ammunition.
When the Armaments Ministry questioned the factory's output, Schindler bought finished munitions on the black market and presented them as his own.
He spent all his time acquiring food, medicine, supplies—keeping his workers alive.
In January 1945, a train arrived carrying 120 Jewish men from Golleschau, a subcamp of Auschwitz.
They'd been sealed in cattle cars without food or water for seven days in freezing temperatures.
Thirteen had already frozen to death.
The SS wanted to send the survivors to Auschwitz for extermination.
    Schindler's wife, Emilie—often ignored in retellings—stepped in.
She and Oskar convinced the SS commandant they needed the workers. Then Emilie personally nursed the 107 survivors back to health.
By the time the war ended in May 1945, Schindler had spent his entire fortune.
    Every penny—gone.
On May 9, 1945, Schindler gathered his workers.
"The war is over," he told them. "You are free."
    Then he fled.
As a former Nazi and German industrialist, Schindler was wanted for war crimes in Czechoslovakia.
Several Schindlerjuden helped him escape to Germany with a letter testifying to what he'd done.
But the letter didn't help him rebuild his life.
Schindler and Emilie moved to Argentina in 1949 with financial help from Jewish relief organizations.
They tried farming nutria (a type of rodent raised for fur).
The business failed. They went bankrupt in 1958.
Schindler abandoned Emilie and returned to Germany alone.
He tried starting a cement factory. That failed too.
By 1961, Schindler was broke, divorced, and living in a tiny apartment in Frankfurt.
That year, he visited Israel for the first time.
The Schindlerjuden gave him a hero's welcome. They celebrated him. Embraced him.
    And they started sending money.
For the rest of his life—13 years—the people on Schindler's list supported him financially.
They sent monthly checks. They paid his bills.
When he died in 1974, they arranged his funeral.
And they buried him where he'd asked to be buried: Jerusalem.
    Not Germany. Jerusalem.
At Schindler's funeral, hundreds of Schindlerjuden followed his coffin through the streets of Jerusalem's Old City to the Latin cemetery on Mount Zion.
One survivor placed a note on his grave: "The unforgettable rescuer of 1,200 persecuted Jews."
Today, visitors leave stones on his grave—a Jewish tradition honoring the dead.
Oskar Schindler was not a saint.
He was a Nazi. A profiteer. An adulterer. A drunk.
He exploited Jewish labor for profit before he protected it for principle.
His transformation wasn't sudden or clean. It was messy, complicated, imperfect.
But at some point—maybe on that hill overlooking Kraków, maybe gradually over months—Schindler made a choice.
He could keep the money and let people die.
Or he could spend everything and save who he could.
    He chose the latter.
    And it cost him everything.
By 1974, Oskar Schindler had nothing—no money, no career, no wife.
But 1,200 people were alive because of him.
And when he died, they buried him in Jerusalem.
Because the people whose names were on the list never forgot.

  • The Cure Has Come -- And You Know It.

Let me speak plainly to something I hear constantly from people who want a reason not to believe.

    "The Bible endorses rape."
    "The Bible endorses genocide."
"The God of the Old Testament is a monster."

I want to address this honestly, because it deserves a real answer, not a dodge.

    First, the facts.
The Bible does not endorse rape.
It records it -- and condemns it.

The violation of Dinah in Genesis 34 ends in devastating consequences for the perpetrators.

The rape of Tamar in 2 Samuel 13 is treated as an abomination.

Scripture is filled with the brutal reality of human sin precisely because it is an honest book.

Recording evil is not the same as approving it. If a history book describes the Holocaust, it is not endorsing it.

But here is what I really want you to see.

Many people say, "If it were just the New Testament, I could believe."

Let me be direct with you: that is not true. We have the New Testament. It is right there. Jesus is in it. His resurrection is in it.

His love, His sacrifice, His grace, all of it is right there. And most who make that argument still do not believe.

So the Old Testament objection is not the real issue.

It is a place to stand while keeping God at arm's length.

Here is the truth about why the Old Testament looks the way it does and it is not complicated once you see it.

Imagine a disease. It is deadly.
It is spreading up a person's arm toward their heart.

There is no cure. In that moment, the merciful thing, the only thing that saves the patient's life, is to remove the arm.

It is severe. It looks brutal to someone who does not understand what is happening. But the alternative is death.

    That is the Old Testament.
Sin is that disease. It is lethal. It spreads.

It destroys families, nations, generations. And in the Old Testament era, there was no cure. The blood of bulls and goats could not remove it. It could only be covered, temporarily, year after year.

So what you see in the Old Testament is something severe: laws, regulations, judgments, consequences, because you are watching a Holy God govern a fallen, unredeemed people with no cure available.

    The strictness was not cruelty.
    It was containment.
It was mercy in the only form that was possible.

    Then the cure came.
The blood of Jesus Christ did what the law never could. It does not cover sin -- it removes it. It does not manage the fallen nature -- it replaces it with a new one.

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17)

    This is the change.
This is why the New Testament feels different.

    Not because God changed.
Not because He decided the rules no longer mattered.

    But because the cure arrived.

Now, instead of governing fallen people with law from the outside, God can transform people from the inside.

Now we can be born again. Now we can become children of God.

The Old Testament was always pointing here. Every sacrifice, every law, every consequence was the finger of God pointing forward to the Lamb who would take away the sin of the world.

So no, the Old Testament does not embarrass me. It makes me grateful.

It shows me how serious sin is, how costly the cure was, and how extravagant the love of God is that He pursued us anyway.

    The cure has come.
The question is not whether you have enough objections.

The question is whether you want to be healed.
