    Beyond the Veil

The sky hung low, painted in muted grays, as a weary traveler walked the edge of a forgotten field. His steps dragged through the tall grass, and the chill of approaching dusk settled deep in his bones.

For weeks, the traveler had felt the pull — a strange calling in his chest that he could neither ignore nor understand. Now, standing before a thicket he’d never noticed before, he paused. Beyond the tangled branches shimmered something golden, as though sunlight had been hidden behind the veil of the world.

“I don’t want to die,” the traveler whispered into the silence. “I’m not ready. What if there’s nothing after this? What if heaven was only something we told children because they were afraid of the dark?”

The air stirred. Leaves rustled softly, and from within the thicket came a sound — not of wind, but of welcome. The vines parted, revealing an arched gate woven from living branches. Beyond it stretched a path of light, leading into a garden unlike any on earth.

The traveler hesitated, trembling. “Who calls me?”

From the heart of the garden came a voice — deep, gentle, ancient.

    > “Come, child of the dust and breath. I have heard your fear.”

The traveler stepped inside. Instantly, warmth wrapped around him like sunlight after endless winter. Flowers bloomed in colors no human eye had ever seen. Streams sang as they flowed, and every leaf glowed faintly with its own light.

In the center stood a great Tree, its branches stretching into eternity, its roots deep in both heaven and earth. The Tree’s leaves shimmered with starlight, and its voice was the music of peace itself.

    > “You have carried much sorrow,” said the Tree. “You wonder if this life is all there is.”

The traveler nodded, voice breaking. “I want to believe… but I can’t see beyond the ending. I know what the Bible says, but if its real, am I worthy?”

The Tree swayed, and its light deepened until the garden itself seemed to breathe.

    > “Then look,” it whispered.

The air before him rippled like water. Through the veil, the traveler saw fields more beautiful than any earthly meadow — light without sun, song without source. And there — running toward him — were faces he knew by heart.

Laughter echoed. Arms opened. The traveler saw his mother’s smile, the joy on his father’s face, the familiar eyes of friends long gone. None bore sorrow or pain — they shone with love made whole.

Tears filled the traveler’s eyes. “They’re waiting for me…”

    > “They always have been,” said the Tree. “No one who walks in the light is ever truly lost. This garden finds a heart that is ready to see home — and you, beloved one, have reached your sunrise.”

The traveler took a deep breath, no longer afraid.
The garden’s light grew brighter until it filled every shadow, every fear, every doubt.

    > “Go in peace,” whispered the Tree, “for death is not an ending, but the first step into forever.”

And as the traveler passed through the veil, the gate closed softly behind him — leaving only the golden glow of dawn and the faint echo of joy on the wind.

    > “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
