• I was 13 years old, standing in knee-deep snow, staring up at a window that no longer had a place for me.

I had no hat, no gloves, and wet sneakers. My face was raw from the wind, and my tears froze into ice on my cheeks before they could even fall. I was starving, I smelled like the streets, and my body ached from the early stings of frostbite.

I had run away from the "charity" of foster homes where I was treated like a chore, only to find myself chasing a mother who was already planning her escape from me. By my next Christmas, she would change her address and sign me over to the state like unwanted furniture.

But as I walked through that snow, a tiny fire in my heart kept me moving. I whispered to the wind: “All of this can’t be for nothing.”

Today, that pain is the fuel behind Blue Bag Foundation Inc. I started this mission so no child has to carry their life in a trash bag or feel like "charity." We give them the "good gift", we give them dignity.

If you’ve ever felt invisible, or if you’re looking for a reason to believe your pain has a purpose, please read my full story on the blog today.
