*TODAY'S PROPHETIC DECLARATION - FRIDAY, 16TH OCTOBER, 2026.* _REMEMBER ETERNITY — LIVE WITH COMPASSION TODAY!_ 📖 ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: LUKE 16:24 (KJV) “And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.” ✝️*REFLECTION: DO NOT IGNORE THE NEEDS OF OTHERS* In Luke 16:19–31, Jesus tells the story of a rich man who lived in luxury while a poor man named Lazarus lay at his gate, covered with sores and longing for the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table. The rich man had abundance, but Lazarus lived in painful poverty. Every day, the suffering of Lazarus was close enough for the rich man to notice, yet the story records no act of compassion from him. Eventually, both men died. Lazarus was carried by the angels to Abraham's side, while the rich man found himself in torment. In his anguish, he pleaded for a drop of water to cool his tongue. What a painful reversal! The man who once enjoyed abundance now longed for the smallest comfort. The poor man who had suffered on earth was now comforted. Beloved, Jesus used this story to confront our attitudes towards wealth, suffering, compassion, and eternity. The rich man's problem was not simply that he possessed wealth. Scripture does not teach that every wealthy person is condemned or that poverty automatically guarantees eternal life. Rather, this parable warns us against a life of selfishness, spiritual blindness, and indifference to the suffering of others. The rich man had an opportunity to show compassion, but he failed to respond to the need at his gate. Sometimes, the person God wants you to help is closer to you than you realise. There may be someone around you who needs encouragement, a hungry person who needs food, a struggling family that needs support, a discouraged young person who needs guidance, or a lonely individual who needs someone willing to listen. You may not be able to solve every problem, but you can refuse to become indifferent. As we continue our October journey under the theme “My Month of Joy from Divine Helper,” let us remember that God's blessings should inspire gratitude, generosity, and compassion. The divine help we pray to receive should also shape our willingness to become instruments of help to others. 🔥 DO NOT PRAY ONLY TO RECEIVE HELP; ASK GOD TO MAKE YOU A CHANNEL OF HELP TO SOMEONE ELSE! 📖 THREE POWERFUL LESSONS FROM LUKE 16:24 1️⃣ EARTHLY POSSESSIONS ARE TEMPORARY, BUT ETERNITY IS REAL The rich man enjoyed earthly comfort, but death brought his earthly experience to an end. His story reminds us that money, position, influence, property, and material possessions cannot replace a genuine relationship with God. There is nothing wrong with working hard, building a business, providing for your family, or pursuing legitimate financial progress. The danger arises when material success becomes more important than God, righteousness, and the well-being of others. 📖 Mark 8:36 (KJV): “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Beloved, pursue success, but do not sacrifice your soul on the altar of worldly ambition. Build your career, but build your character too. Gather possessions, but gather heavenly treasures through faith, obedience, love, and service. 🔥 LET YOUR LIFE BE PREPARED FOR ETERNITY, NOT JUST FOR EARTHLY SUCCESS! 2️⃣ NEVER BECOME BLIND TO THE SUFFERING OF OTHERS Lazarus was at the rich man's gate. His suffering was near, visible, and real. Yet the rich man's lifestyle remained unchanged. This is a warning against becoming so occupied with our own comfort that we overlook the pain of those around us. 📖 Proverbs 19:17 (KJV): “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.” God values compassion towards the needy. You may not have enough money to support everyone, but you can share what you have, offer practical assistance, provide encouragement, connect someone to a genuine opportunity, or pray with a person who is struggling. Compassion is not limited to financial giving. Sometimes, it means offering your time, listening without condemnation, or helping someone find a responsible solution to a difficult situation. Do not allow the pursuit of your own breakthrough to make you insensitive to another person's pain. 🔥 MAY GOD GIVE YOU EYES THAT SEE NEEDS, A HEART THAT FEELS COMPASSION, AND HANDS THAT ARE WILLING TO HELP! 3️⃣ RESPOND TO GOD'S WORD WHILE YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY In the parable, the rich man's circumstances could no longer be changed by the request he made after death. Jesus' message calls us to take God's Word seriously now. We must not postpone repentance, obedience, forgiveness, generosity, or the work God has placed before us. 📖 Galatians 6:10 (KJV): “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” Do good while you have the opportunity. Forgive when forgiveness is appropriate. Repent when God corrects you. Make peace where it is possible and safe. Help someone when you have the ability and opportunity to do so. Above all, put your faith in Jesus Christ and live in the light of His Word. Do not wait until tomorrow to practise the obedience God is calling you to today. 🔥 YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO DO GOOD IS A RESPONSIBILITY; USE IT WISELY! 🪞 TODAY'S PERSONAL EXAMINATION Beloved, take a moment to examine your heart before God. Ask yourself: 1. Have I made material success more important than my relationship with God? 2. Have I ignored someone whose suffering I could have helped to ease? 3. Do I use the resources God has given me with wisdom and compassion? 4. Am I living with eternity in view? 5. Have I postponed an act of kindness, reconciliation, or obedience? 6. Does my faith influence how I treat people who cannot repay me? Remember, this examination is not intended to condemn you. It is an invitation to growth, repentance, and a deeper walk with Christ. God's grace enables us to recognise our shortcomings and respond with faith and obedience. Today, ask the Lord to show you one practical way to express His love to someone. 🔥*PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS:* As I put my faith in Jesus Christ and commit myself to living according to God's Word, I declare: 🙏 1. MY HEART SHALL REMAIN FOCUSED ON ETERNITY! By God's grace, I shall not allow worldly possessions, temporary pleasures, or the pursuit of success to take the place of my relationship with Him. 📌 Today's Readings are from the Book of Ezra 3–4 | Hebrews 1 📌 👇 Overviews Are Below (PLEASE READ YOUR BIBLE: Overviews Do Not Replace Daily Reading) 👇 Ezra 3 October 16 Rebuilding Worship Before Rebuilding Everything Else Ezra 3 describes the first major steps taken after the exiles return to Judah. Jerusalem remains damaged and the temple has not yet been rebuilt, but the people gather together with a shared desire to restore worship. Their first priority is not constructing homes, walls, or government buildings. They begin with the altar. Under the leadership of Jeshua and Zerubbabel, the altar is rebuilt according to the Law of Moses, and sacrifices resume. The people are surrounded by uncertainty and are fearful of neighboring populations, yet they choose to worship the Lord in the middle of that insecurity. They do not wait until circumstances become comfortable before seeking God. The Feast of Tabernacles is then observed, and the regular pattern of offerings begins again. Although the temple structure is still missing, the people are restoring the worship God had commanded. This reflects an important spiritual priority: before rebuilding the visible center of national life, they reestablish their relationship with the Lord. Attention then turns toward the temple itself. Resources are gathered, craftsmen are hired, and arrangements are made for timber from Lebanon. In the second year after their return, the foundation is laid under the supervision of the Levites. Priests and musicians gather with trumpets and cymbals, following the worship patterns established during David’s reign. When the foundation is completed, the people praise the Lord for His goodness and enduring mercy. Yet the celebration includes mixed emotions. Younger people shout with joy because they are witnessing the beginning of something new, while older people who remember Solomon’s temple weep as they compare the modest beginning before them with what had once stood in Jerusalem. The sounds of joy and sorrow blend together until they cannot easily be distinguished. This becomes a beautiful picture of restoration. God’s people can be genuinely grateful for what He is doing now while still grieving what has been lost. The Lord does not require them to pretend the past never happened; He calls them to move faithfully forward from where they are. Theological Emphasis Ezra 3 emphasizes that restoration begins with worship and obedience. The returned exiles still have enormous practical needs, but they recognize that rebuilding their relationship with God must come first. The altar precedes the completed temple because sacrifice and worship are central to their identity as God’s covenant people. The chapter also teaches us not to despise small beginnings. The new foundation does not match the visible glory remembered by the older generation, but God is nevertheless working. Restoration rarely happens all at once; it often begins with one faithful step followed by another. Christ-Centered Truth The restored altar and renewed sacrifices point directly toward Jesus Christ. Israel needed continual sacrifices because sin remained an ongoing problem, but every offering anticipated the perfect sacrifice Christ would eventually make. Jesus did not merely restore an altar; He offered Himself. Through His death and resurrection, believers receive complete forgiveness and permanent access to God. He is also the true foundation upon which God is building His people. Buildings can be destroyed and earthly institutions can change, but the Church built upon Christ cannot be overcome. Believer Application For believers today, Ezra 3 reminds us to put worship before rebuilding everything else. When life has been disrupted by failure, loss, transition, or neglect, our instinct may be to repair circumstances first. Ezra shows us a better priority: return to God, restore fellowship with Him, and allow everything else to be rebuilt around that relationship. We should also allow room for both gratitude and grief. God may restore something differently than we remember it, and new beginnings may look smaller than former seasons. Faith does not require us to deny disappointment, but it does call us to recognize God’s present work and continue building upon the foundation He has provided in Jesus Christ. Ezra 4 Opposition to the Work of God Ezra 4 introduces the resistance that arose when the returned exiles began rebuilding the temple. The work of God often attracts opposition, and this chapter shows that resistance may come through false cooperation, intimidation, political accusations, and official interference. The enemies of Judah approached Zerubbabel and the family heads, claiming that they wanted to help build because they also worshiped the God of Israel. However, their offer was rejected. Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the other leaders understood that shared religious language does not necessarily mean shared faithfulness. They were responsible for rebuilding the temple according to God’s command, and they refused to compromise that calling by joining themselves to people whose worship and loyalties were not aligned with the covenant. After their offer was rejected, the opposition changed its strategy. Instead of pretending to help, they began discouraging the people and making them afraid to continue building. They hired counselors to frustrate the work and used political influence to oppose the project during the reigns of several Persian kings. Eventually, the enemies wrote an accusation to King Artaxerxes. They portrayed Jerusalem as a rebellious and dangerous city, claiming that if the walls and city were rebuilt, the Jews would stop paying taxes and become independent from Persia. Their argument was not truly about protecting the empire; it was an attempt to stop the work God had commanded. The king investigated the records and discovered that Jerusalem had indeed experienced rebellion in the past. Based on this information, he ordered the work to stop. The opposition quickly enforced the decree, going to Jerusalem and using force to halt the rebuilding. As a result, the work on the temple ceased for a period of time. Although Ezra 4 focuses on opposition to the temple, the chapter also includes a later account of resistance against the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls. This section demonstrates that opposition continued beyond the initial interruption. The enemies repeatedly used political pressure to prevent the restoration of God’s people and their city. Theological Emphasis Ezra 4 teaches that obedience to God does not guarantee the absence of opposition. The returned exiles were doing what God had commanded, yet they still faced discouragement, fear, false accusations, and government interference. Difficulty is not always evidence that God has abandoned His work. Sometimes opposition arises precisely because God’s purposes are advancing. The chapter also warns against compromising spiritual convictions for the sake of cooperation. The enemies offered assistance, but their involvement would have weakened the distinct identity and obedience of God’s people. Not every offer of help is beneficial, and not every partnership is faithful. Another important lesson is that opposition often begins subtly. The enemies first presented themselves as allies, then moved to intimidation, and finally used formal accusations. Believers must remain spiritually alert because resistance may appear in different forms over time. Christ-Centered Truth The opposition faced by the builders points forward to the greater opposition Jesus Christ endured. Christ came to establish God’s kingdom and redeem His people, yet He was rejected, falsely accused, and condemned by earthly authorities. His enemies appeared to succeed when He was crucified, but God used the very act of opposition to accomplish salvation. Jesus also remained perfectly faithful without compromising His mission. He did not alter the truth to gain acceptance or avoid conflict. Through His death and resurrection, He secured a kingdom that cannot be stopped by political decrees, human accusations, or spiritual opposition. The Church continues Christ’s work in the world and should expect resistance. Yet the opposition believers face cannot ultimately defeat God’s purposes. The work may be delayed, challenged, or redirected, but the Lord remains sovereign over every authority and circumstance. Believer Application For believers today, Ezra 4 reminds us to expect opposition without becoming discouraged. Faithfulness may bring criticism, misunderstanding, rejection, or pressure to compromise. When this happens, we should examine our hearts, remain grounded in Scripture, and continue trusting God rather than assuming that difficulty means we are on the wrong path. We should also practice discernment in relationships and partnerships. Christians are called to love others and work peacefully whenever possible, but unity must never come at the expense of truth and obedience. Cooperation is valuable only when it supports faithfulness to God. Finally, Ezra 4 encourages us to persevere when progress is interrupted. The builders experienced a real delay, but the delay did not cancel God’s promise. In the same way, setbacks in ministry, spiritual growth, or personal obedience do not mean that God has abandoned His work. The Lord is able to revive what has been stopped and complete what He has begun. Hebrews — The Supremacy of the Christ and the Better Covenant The book of Hebrews presents the Christ, the Son of God, as the complete fulfillment of God's redemptive plan and the One who is greater than every person, priesthood, covenant, sacrifice, and religious system that came before Him. The writer addresses believers who understood the Old Testament deeply and were facing pressure that could tempt them to drift backward. Rather than calling them toward something new and disconnected from Scripture, Hebrews shows that everything God had already revealed was moving toward fulfillment in the Christ. The central message is that Jesus is better because He is the fulfillment of what God promised before. The prophets spoke truth, but the Son is God's fullest revelation. Angels served God, but the Son reigns over them. Moses was faithful within God's house, but the Christ is the Son over the house. The Levitical priesthood served temporarily, but Jesus is the eternal High Priest. Animal sacrifices were repeated continually, but the Son of God offered Himself once for all. The old covenant prepared the way, while the new covenant brings the redemptive purpose of God into its fullness. Hebrews therefore connects the Old Testament and New Testament in a deeply Christ-centered way. The tabernacle, priesthood, sacrifices, covenant, promised rest, and many of Israel's experiences were not isolated religious practices. They formed part of God's unfolding redemptive plan and ultimately pointed beyond themselves to the greater work accomplished through the Christ. Another major theme is perseverance. Hebrews contains some of the New Testament's strongest warnings against drifting, unbelief, hardening of the heart, spiritual immaturity, and turning away from the truth. These warnings are pastoral rather than merely threatening. The writer knows that believers can become weary, discouraged, distracted, or tempted to return to what is familiar. He continually calls them back to the sufficiency of the Son of God. The answer to spiritual weakness throughout Hebrews is not simply greater effort. It is a clearer vision of the Christ. Believers are repeatedly encouraged to consider Jesus, draw near through Him, hold firmly to their confession, fix their eyes upon Him, and trust the promises of God. Christian living becomes stable when Jesus remains central. Hebrews also gives one of Scripture's greatest explanations of the priesthood of the Christ. Unlike earthly priests who repeatedly offered sacrifices and were themselves sinful and mortal, Jesus is the sinless and eternal High Priest. He represents His people before God, understands human weakness, provides access to the Father's presence, and has accomplished a sacrifice that never needs to be repeated. The book therefore gives believers tremendous assurance. We do not approach God through human merit, religious performance, or repeated sacrifices. We draw near because the Son of God has opened the way. Hebrews also emphasizes faith. Chapter 11 demonstrates that God's people have always lived by trusting His promises, often before seeing their fulfillment. Their faith ultimately points toward the greater fulfillment now revealed through the Christ. Biblical faith is not wishful thinking; it is confidence in the character and promises of God. The closing chapters bring these theological truths directly into Christian living. Because believers have received an unshakable kingdom, they are called to pursue holiness, love one another, remain faithful in relationships, reject the love of money, remember godly leaders, endure hardship, and continually offer lives of worship to God. The book of Hebrews can therefore be understood as a sustained call to see the greatness of the Son of God and refuse to turn away from Him. Every major section leads toward the same conclusion: there is nothing greater to return to and nothing greater to pursue beyond the Christ. For believers today, Hebrews reminds us that spiritual maturity comes by understanding more deeply who Jesus is and what He has accomplished. When faith grows weak, when suffering becomes heavy, when religious activity begins replacing relationship with God, or when the world pressures believers to compromise, Hebrews directs our eyes back to the Son. The Christ is our revelation of God, our High Priest, our sacrifice, our mediator, our access to the Father, our example of endurance, and our eternal hope. God's redemptive plan reaches its fulfillment in Him, and Christian living must remain anchored in Him. Hebrews 1 — God Has Spoken Through His Son Hebrews chapter 1 begins without a lengthy introduction because the writer immediately wants the reader's attention fixed upon the greatness of the Christ. The chapter establishes one of the central truths of the entire book: God has spoken finally and fully through His Son, and the Son is greater than every messenger who came before Him. The chapter begins by looking backward at God's revelation through the prophets. Throughout the Old Testament, God spoke genuinely and authoritatively through men such as Moses, David, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and many others. Their messages were true, inspired, and essential to God's redemptive plan. Yet their revelation came in portions and at different times as God's purposes unfolded through history. Now something greater has happened. God has spoken through His Son. This does not mean the Old Testament has become unimportant. Hebrews consistently depends upon the Old Testament and treats it as God's Word. The point is that the revelation given through the prophets finds its fulfillment and fullest expression in the Christ. What God had been promising, preparing, and revealing through generations has now reached its climax in the Son of God. This is foundational for Christian living because it tells us where final authority rests. Jesus is not simply another religious teacher standing alongside Moses, the prophets, or other spiritual leaders. He is God's Son and the decisive revelation of who God is and what He has accomplished. The writer then describes the Son in language that immediately lifts Him above every created being. The Christ is the appointed heir of all things, meaning that all creation ultimately belongs to Him and will come under His acknowledged rule. God's redemptive plan is moving toward the day when the authority of the Son will be openly recognized throughout creation. The chapter also identifies the Son as the One through whom God made the worlds. This places the Christ on the Creator side of the distinction between Creator and creation. Jesus did not begin His existence in Bethlehem. The incarnation brought the eternal Son into humanity, but the Son already existed and was active in creation itself. This truth gives Christian faith a much greater view of Jesus than merely seeing Him as a moral teacher. The One who walked through Galilee, taught the crowds, touched lepers, and went to the cross is also the One through whom the universe came into existence. The writer then describes the Son as the brightness of God's glory and the exact representation of His being. The language communicates that when we look at the Christ, we are not merely seeing someone who tells us about God. We are seeing the perfect revelation of God. Jesus makes the invisible God known. His compassion reveals God's compassion. His holiness reveals God's holiness. His truth reveals God's truth. His authority reveals God's authority. His willingness to save sinners reveals the heart of God's redemptive plan. This is why Christian theology must remain Christ-centered. We cannot separate what we believe about God from what God has revealed through His Son. Hebrews 1 then moves from creation to providence. The Son not only created all things; He sustains all things by His powerful word. The universe is not independent from Him. Creation continues because the Son of God holds it together according to His sovereign power. This gives believers profound assurance. The Christ who holds creation together is also the One in whom we place our faith. Christian living therefore does not rest upon a weak or distant Savior. The Son of God possesses authority greater than every circumstance that confronts His people. The chapter then moves directly to redemption. After making purification for sins, the Son sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. That movement—from purification to sitting down—is enormously important. Under the old covenant, priests repeatedly offered sacrifices because the work was never finally completed through those sacrifices. The continual repetition demonstrated that something greater was still needed. The Christ accomplished what those sacrifices anticipated. Through His own sacrifice, the Son of God dealt decisively with sin. He did not merely cover over humanity's guilt temporarily. He made purification possible through His finished redemptive work. Then He sat down. His seated position communicates completion and authority. The sacrifice does not need to be repeated. The Son of God has finished the work necessary for redemption and now reigns in the place of honor. The chapter then turns to angels because angels held an important place within Jewish thought and within the Old Testament story. They were glorious servants of God and were connected with significant moments of divine revelation. Yet Hebrews makes clear that no angel occupies the position of the Son. The writer supports this argument by drawing extensively from Old Testament Scripture. God never speaks of angels in the same way He speaks of the Son. The Son possesses a unique relationship with the Father, receives worship, reigns eternally, and stands above every created messenger. This distinction matters because Hebrews is continually protecting the supremacy of the Christ. The Son cannot be placed into a category with prophets, angels, priests, or any other servant. They serve within God's purposes, but Jesus stands above them as Lord. The chapter then describes the throne of the Son as eternal and His rule as righteous. The kingdom of the Christ is not temporary, corrupt, or unstable like earthly kingdoms. His rule is characterized by righteousness and justice. This connects Hebrews with the larger prophetic hope of Scripture. The Old Testament repeatedly looked forward to a righteous King whose kingdom would endure. Hebrews identifies the Son of God as the fulfillment of that expectation. The world may currently be marked by political instability, injustice, violence, and rebellion, but the redemptive plan is moving toward the visible reign of the Christ. His throne is eternal, His character is righteous, and His kingdom cannot fail. The writer also emphasizes the Son's unchanging nature. Creation itself will grow old and change, but the Christ remains the same. The visible world appears permanent to human eyes, yet Scripture reminds us that creation is temporary compared with the eternal Son of God. This has direct application for Christian living. Everything around us changes. Governments change, economies change, cultures change, health changes, relationships change, and circumstances change. Yet the Son of God remains the same. That unchanging character gives stability to faith. Believers are not building their lives upon circumstances that remain favorable. We are building upon the Christ whose character, promises, authority, and redemptive work do not change. The chapter concludes by returning again to angels and defining their role properly. They are servants sent by God to minister within His purposes, while the Son reigns at God's right hand awaiting the complete subjection of His enemies. Once again, the distinction is clear: angels serve, but the Christ reigns. This prepares the reader for everything that follows in Hebrews. If the Son is greater than the prophets, greater than angels, Creator and Sustainer of all things, purifier of sins, eternal King, and the perfect revelation of God, then His message cannot be treated casually. The rest of Hebrews will repeatedly build upon this foundation. The theological emphasis of Hebrews 1 is centered upon the absolute supremacy of the Son of God. The Christ is God's fullest revelation, the Creator and Sustainer, the One who made purification for sin, the exalted King, and the eternal Lord whose throne will never end. The Old Testament Scriptures pointed forward to Him, and the promises concerning God's kingdom find their fulfillment in Him. This chapter therefore places the person of the Christ before the work of Christian living. Before Hebrews tells us what to do, it tells us who Jesus is. That order matters. Christian living does not begin with striving to become better people. It begins with seeing the Son of God more clearly. As our understanding of His greatness increases, worship deepens, obedience becomes more serious, trust becomes stronger, and earthly distractions begin to lose their power. For believers today, Hebrews chapter 1 calls us to resist every attempt to reduce Jesus to merely one important part of life. He is not simply one voice among many. He is not merely a religious teacher, spiritual example, prophet, or angelic being. He is the Son of God, the Creator, the revelation of the Father's glory, the purifier of our sins, the eternal King, and the One who reigns forever. Everything in God's redemptive plan points toward Him. Everything necessary for salvation rests upon Him. And everything in Christian living should ultimately come under His authority. When the world feels unstable, remember that the Christ remains unchanged. When guilt weighs upon the conscience, remember that the Son made purification for sins. When competing voices demand attention, remember that God has spoken through His Son. Hebrews begins by lifting our eyes upward because the strength of the Christian life depends upon seeing Jesus rightly. (2)" '…I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back.’ Philippians 3:14 TM THOUGH YOU’VE settled the issues of forgiveness and faith, getting unstuck involves two more challenges. You will need to learn: 1) Flexibility. When your faith runs into obstacles, your flexibility keeps you in the race. You need the ability to ‘roll with the punches,’ to bend without breaking. Don’t marry your methods! Be willing to make a mid-course correction when it’s needed. Flexibility, however, isn’t ambivalence or wishy-washiness. Flexibility is: a) An attitude of determination to adjust to life’s challenges and stay on course; to trust God for wisdom; to fine-tune your responses to changing circumstances. b) A commitment to take action. A positive mind-set alone won’t get you unstuck. You’ll have to ‘do something!’ Remember, big doors swing on little hinges; taking small steps of faith will move you forward! 2) Firmness: resolve not to quit. You’ll encounter problems that leave you no option but to stand still, like the Israelites between the Red Sea and the Egyptian army. In the tightest of spots, they received this five-fold counsel: a) Don’t give in to fear. Don’t let it decide your response. b) Stand still. Stop your irrational, emotion-driven behaviours. c) Quit talking. Don’t talk yourself into defeat. d) Look for God’s way forward. Expect Him to take action that will get you unstuck. e) Be ready to move forward when He opens the way. These are simple but powerful steps you can take when you don’t know what to do. And what about when you blow it? Acknowledge it. Re-label it as ‘Valuable lessons learned,’ and put it in your ‘What not to do next time' file! [15/10, 8:07 pm] Pastor Attah: *MEDITATIONS ON DAILY ⓂANNA* FRIDAY, 16TH OCTOBER, 2026. *WHAT MATTERS IN LIFE* *TEXT:* ECCLESIASTES 12:8-14. 8.Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher; all is vanity. 9.And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs. 10.The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth. 11.The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd. 12.And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. 13.Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14.For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. *Timeless Truth:*_"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man"_ (Ecclesiastes 12:13). *INTRODUCTION* Understanding the meaning and essence of life will make man to live a meaningful life while lack of it will make man to live an inconsequential and wasteful life. Such will take delight in things that have no eternal profit except temporary satisfaction. King Solomon wrote Ecclesiastes about 14 years after the Songs of Solomon and about 23 years after the Book of Proverbs. This suggests that he wrote Ecclesiastes after he was able to get restored from his backsliding. While in that state, he lived for pleasure, prosperity and popularity. However, he did not find lasting fulfilment and happiness in them. By the time he discovered the meaning and essence of life, looking back, he called his wasted years as *"vanity of vanities"*. Victor Frankl a holocaust survivor, wrote, "this striving to find a meaning in one's life is the primary motivational force in man. I think the meaning of our existence is not invented by ourselves, but rather detected". King Solomon eventually, detected the meaning of existence and even turned out to be a wise preacher. Discovering the meaning of existence and what matters most in life is the secret of lasting happiness and fulfilment in life. *1. Diligence of the Preacher* a. Everyone who truly discovers the meaning of existence and what matters in life will always turn out to be a counsellor or preacher in one way or the other. King Solomon turned out to be one. His wisdom is always demonstrated and attested to by willingness and diligence in showing others the path of wisdom. *"Because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge"*. Inspiration comes through perspiration. Though he had been divinely imparted with the gift of wisdom and also diligently improved wisdom through personal learning, he knew that these were not substitutes for diligent study needed for inspiration to imparting wisdom and knowledge. *"Yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs"*. Words are one of the strongest means of communication. The writers of the Bible took pains to use the right words as given by the Holy Spirit. *"Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth"* (1 Corinthians 2:13). Preachers, soulwinners and counsellors including writers must be careful and diligent to choose appropriate words that correctly carry their message without ambiguity or offence. *"The preacher sought to find out acceptable words"*. The words must convey the truth and not distort the truth. *"And that which was written was upright, even words of truth"*. *Question* Are you a diligent student of the Bible and counsellor? *2. Direction in Preaching* a. The wise communicator is not a babbler that carelessly plays with words. He is always on purpose and on target with the use of words. The words he uses are like the nails of a carpenter which is always on target with a specified purpose to be achieved. It may be to bring conviction of wrongs, edify or comfort. *"The words of the wise are as ...as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies"*. He has a duty to personally study to make himself approved unto God so that he will be able to rightly divide the word of truth (2Timothy 2:15). Inspiration is boosted by study and perspiration. b. No one knows enough to claim that he can do without studying diligently. Reading is an unending adventure and supposed to be continuous even to old age. Anyone whose discountenance reading will eventually, be obsolete in knowledge and unable to rise to modern challenges in life. King Solomon, while tapping into experience, spoke about the fact that it is natural to have weariness of the flesh if you are given to diligent study. If your study does not task you, then you are not studying enough. If you don't have things to study again you are deteriorating. *"Of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh"*. *Question* Are you still given to diligent study of the Word of God? *3. The Duty of People* The study that does not make you discover more about the awesomeness and power of God so as to fear God more is never the right study. The true study of nature makes someone see the greatness of God. The study of man makes someone see how depraved human nature is and the need for the redemption of man. An understanding of the meaning of life puts all other earthly seeking without God in the right perspectives: *"vanity of vanities"*. Life is designed to be only meaningful when it is not detached from the Creator. All human endeavours that are not deep rooted in the Creator will eventually, be discovered to be meaningless after careful thought. *"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter"*. A lot of words of wisdom have been given by the Preacher Solomon. The conclusion and the prime motivation for them is to *"Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man"*. No man is whole without wholly obeying the commandments of God and wholly putting God as the centre of his whole affairs. No one gives his life to God and His service feels emptiness inside him except satisfaction and praises to God. *Question* Is God at the centre of all your knowledge and actions? *Prayer Points* 1.Praise God for revealing what matters in life and the meaning of life 🙏. 2.Ask God for more discovery and revelation of what matters in life 🙏. 3.Pray for grace to be diligent in the study of the Word of God and to be committed to sharing the truth and helping others 🙏. 4.Ask God to help all His children to discover the essence of living and not to be carried away with vanities of this life 🙏. *HYMN:* O brother life's Journey beginning *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* REVELATION 9-11. Tennis star Boris Becker got to the very top of the tennis world, yet he became bankrupt despite winning 13 Masters titles, three year-end championships, and an Olympic gold medal in men's doubles in 1992. He led Germany to two Davis Cup titles in 1988 and 1989 and is said to be the youngest-ever winner of the men's singles Wimbledon title, a feat he accomplished aged 17 in 1985. Be careful, says Becker, because "you're not always going to be on top."* *Higgins and Becker are using the lens of man's inadequacy to measure life performances. However, in Christ Jesus, all limitations are removed. The believer's achievements are not tied to earthly glory but eternity with God. Whosoever fears God and keeps His commandments will discover treasures in glory that overshadow all the vanities of life. When men focus on earthly achievements, they forget the ultimate goal of existence: fear God and do His will. Life is meaningful when lived in the fear of God. It is useless when lived in furtherance of selfish pursuits.* *The stories of great evangelists and pastors of old show us that a life lived for God's glory speaks of no vanity of vanities. In the Bible we have the example of Paul the apostle. At the end, he declared: _"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing"_ (2 Timothy 4:7-8). Such a man as the great Apostle saw no vanity because he realised very quickly that _"a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth."_* *If you are tempted to make mammon your god, think twice because _"If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable._ Before worshipping at the altar of Baal, remember that God is the ultimate Judge and the only One we must worship on earth and in eternity. Only what is done for Christ lasts forever, else everything is vanity of vanities. Every step (and stop) of the righteous man is ordered by the LORD, and He may choose to use trouble (as we know it) to introduce you to His will, but you must endeavour not to chicken out; because you are on course. There's a reason why you are, and identified as a child of God. Whenever, as a child of God, you have a burden and begin to pray pointlessly, then there is a problem. The burden of the body of Christ today should drive every true child of God to their knees. In every generation, there's a valley of dry bones, and there are also Ezekiels, and that Ezekiel could be you, if you have the right amount of burden. May God strengthen you with the riches of His glory in your inner man to have the right amount of burden to fulfil the reason of your calling.
