Many mock or reject the Pre-Tribulation Rapture because they fail to “rightly divide the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15 KJV). They mix the promises and prophecies given to Israel with those given to the Church — creating confusion, false timelines, and misplaced hope.
Beloved, the Rapture is a mystery revealed to Paul (1 Corinthians 15:51-52 KJV) — it is not found in Matthew 24, which deals with the Tribulation and Christ’s return to earth in judgment. At the Rapture, the Church is caught up (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 KJV) before the wrath is poured out (1 Thessalonians 1:10 KJV, Revelation 3:10 KJV).
Warning: Those who twist Scripture and scoff at the Blessed Hope (Titus 2:13 KJV) are fulfilling prophecy — “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers” (2 Peter 3:3-4 KJV). Don’t let unbelief rob you of watching and longing for His imminent call, “Come up hither!” (Revelation 4:1 KJV).
    Rightly divide:
Matthew 24 = Israel, Tribulation, Second Coming
    Rapture Passages (John 14:1-3, 1 Corinthians 15, 1 Thessalonians 4) = Church, before wrath
The Bride of Christ is not appointed to wrath (1 Thessalonians 5:9 KJV) — be ready, not skeptical.
“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.” (Revelation 3:11 KJV)

  • What It Means to “Rightly Divide the Word of Truth”

2 Timothy 2:15 - “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Many quote this verse, but few understand its depth and demand.

To “rightly divide” (Greek: orthotomeō) literally means to cut straight - as a skilled worker would hew a straight path or a priest would divide the sacrificial offering with precision. Paul, speaking to Timothy, charges every believer - especially those handling Scripture - to be accurate, honest, and Spirit-led in their interpretation and teaching of God’s Word.

It means discerning context over convenience.
It means understanding genre, covenant, audience, and time.
It means not forcing personal opinions into divine revelation.
It means distinguishing between what was descriptive and what is prescriptive.
It means interpreting the Old Testament in light of Christ, not apart from Him (Luke 24:27).

When we fail to rightly divide, we risk creating false doctrine, breeding confusion, and misrepresenting God’s character.

But when we do it rightly - bathed in prayer, grounded in the Spirit, with reverence for Scripture’s unity - we become approved workmen, trustworthy stewards of eternal truth.

May our study not be shallow but Spirit-shaped. May our sermons not be soundbites but sound doctrine. May we never handle God’s Word carelessly.

What challenges have you faced in rightly dividing the Word of Truth? Let’s grow together - comment below!
