WHO IS JESUS REALLY? (MORE THAN A PROPHET) This is where everything stands or falls. Many people are comfortable calling Jesus: – a prophet a teacher a good man But Scripture does not give you that option. Jesus is either who He claimed to be… or He is not. And what He claimed changes everything. JESUS MADE CLAIMS ONLY GOD CAN MAKE No prophet in Scripture ever spoke like this. A. “I AM” — THE DIVINE NAME John 8:58 “Before Abraham was, I AM.” This is not normal speech. Jesus wasn’t just saying He existed before Abraham… He was using the Name of God. Exodus 3:14 “I AM WHO I AM” Insight: Jesus was not pointing to God… He was revealing Himself as God. B. AUTHORITY TO FORGIVE SINS Mark 2:5–7 “Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Jesus didn’t correct them He proved them right—by forgiving sins Only God forgives sin… Yet Jesus does it openly. C. EQUALITY WITH GOD John 10:30 “I and the Father are one.” The response? John 10:33 “You, being a man, make Yourself God.” They understood exactly what He meant. And He did not deny it. GOD’S CLAIMS THAT JESUS ALSO FULFILLED ONLY GOD IS SAVIOR Isaiah 43:11 “Besides Me there is no Savior.” Luke 2:11 Jesus is called Savior Not a savior THE Savior GOD IS THE FIRST AND LAST Isaiah 44:6 Revelation 1:17 Same title Same authority JESUS WAS PROPHESIED BEFORE HIS BIRTH No other figure in history carries this level of prophetic detail. Born of a virgin Isaiah 7:14 → Matthew 1:23 Born in Bethlehem Micah 5:2 The suffering Messiah Isaiah 53 Written hundreds of years before Fulfilled in detail JESUS DID WHAT ONLY GOD CAN DO Controlled nature Mark 4:39 — He calmed the storm Raised the dead John 11:43–44 — He called Lazarus out Gives eternal life John 10:28 Not asked for permission He commanded with authority WHAT MAKES JESUS DIFFERENT FROM PROPHETS Prophets: – Spoke about God Said: “Thus says the Lord” Pointed toward truth Jesus: – Spoke as God Said: “I say to you…” Claimed authority over: – sin life eternity Hebrews 1:1–3 God spoke through prophets… But in Jesus, He revealed Himself. JESUS NEVER DENIED BEING GOD There is no verse where Jesus says: “I am not God” “Do not worship Me” “I am only a prophet” But when people accused Him of being equal with God… He didn’t correct them. John 8:58 — “I AM” → they tried to stone Him Mark 14:61–64 — He said “I AM” → called blasphemy If they misunderstood Him… He would have corrected them. But He didn’t. JESUS ACCEPTED WORSHIP Matthew 14:33 John 9:38 People worshipped Him… And He received it. Compare: Revelation 22:8–9 — Angels reject worship Acts 10:25–26 — Apostles reject worship Jesus does not reject it. That is not normal for a prophet. LOGICAL TRUTH If Jesus is not God: Then He allowed: – false worship deception blasphemy But Scripture says: Hebrews 4:15 — He is without sin Therefore: He didn’t deny being God… Because He is. WHY PEOPLE GET CONFUSED John 14:28 “The Father is greater than I” This speaks about: His role in the flesh humility in incarnation Philippians 2:6–7 He emptied Himself and took human form Not less God But God revealed in human form JESUS AND THE FATHER ARE ONE John 14:9 “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.” Colossians 2:9 “In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” Not separate gods But one divine essence revealed through Christ FINAL REVELATION Jesus is not: just a teacher just a prophet just a miracle worker He is: God revealed Savior King Lord POWERFUL LINE “Every prophet points to God… but Jesus is God standing in front of you.” CALL TO RESPONSE Jesus is not someone you simply admire… He is someone you must respond to. Romans 10:9 “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart…” This is where everything changes. FINAL DECLARATION “Jesus didn’t go around saying ‘I am God’ in simple terms… because His words, His works, and His authority were already declaring it.” The question is not: Did Jesus claim to be God?
