    Evolution teaches that human races arose separately over long periods of time as populations evolved in different parts of the world.

    The Bible tells a very different story.

    Scripture teaches that every person who has ever lived descends from Adam and Eve. The variation we see in skin color today is not evidence of separate origins. It is evidence of the incredible genetic diversity God placed within the first human family.

    Modern genetics has shown that all humans belong to one race. The differences between us are small, while the similarities are overwhelming.

    Different shades. One human race.

  • Good morning, brethren.
    1. Morning devotion for today.

    MD.i. MORNING TEA
    THE WORD FOR TODAY
    THURSDAY JULY 30, 2O26.
    "DEAL WITH THE STUMBLING BLOCKS (2)"

    'Make up your mind not to put any stumbling block…in your brother’s way.’
    Romans 14:13 NIV

    HERE ARE two more stumbling blocks you need to remove in order to win someone to Christ: 1) boredom. Jesus isn’t boring, but sometimes religion is. The story is told of a lady who fell asleep during the sermon. Pointing at the man sitting next to her, the pastor said, ‘Please wake that woman up!’ The man replied, ‘You put her to sleep, Reverend, you wake her up!’ Jesus is called ‘the Good Shepherd’ (John 10:11), and the Greek word for ‘good’ is ‘kalos’, which means ‘captivating’; that’s the Christ we need to present to those seeking spiritual direction. 2) money. It’s been said the most sensitive nerve in a person’s body is the one that runs to their wallet. Have there been financial scandals in the church? Yes. They even had them in the New Testament church (Acts 5). But don’t throw the baby out with the bath water! It takes money to build churches, feed and clothe the needy and send out missionaries. When money is in the right hands, it’s a solution, not a problem. Furthermore, if God can trust you to finance His plans, He will show you how to make more money. He said, ‘…I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit…’ (Isaiah 48:17 AMP). 3) discomfort. People say, ‘I just don’t feel comfortable in church.’ The truth can do that to you! The gospel is designed to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. When Paul preached, some people trembled, but when trembling leads to trusting in Christ, it’s a good thing.

    ```KEY VERSE:``` _*"And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead" (JEREMIAH 50:19).*_
    *The story of Jeff, as published on the website of _Changed Lives Archives,_ narrates the amazing account of redemption and restoration of a wandering child come home. He grew up in the church and drifted away from the faith after the sudden death of his father. He pursued a career in rock music, which led him into broken relationships and addiction. However, through the persistent prayers and support of his aunt, Jeff experienced a spiritual revival. He surrendered his life to Christ. The good news and God's intervention must have accelerated his mother's miraculous healing and recovery from cancer.*
    *Stepping back into history, the children of Israel had been warned by God to ensure faithful obedience to His laws and complete separation from the contamination of the Gentile nations around them, as they were preparing to inherit the Promised Land. Unfortunately, they kept on disobeying God, and falling into rebellion and idolatry. Eventually, God expressed His divine displeasure after they had exhausted His long rope of love and overdrawn their cheque of mercy. Prophet Jeremiah warned them of the consequences of their disobedience to God and stiff-necked refusal to change their ways and return to the path of righteousness.*
    *The pronouncement of judgment eventually took its proper cause, and they went into captivity and suffered terribly in Babylon. The passage today, however, comes with a message of hope and comfort to the people of God. After the expiration of the period of their punishment, Jeremiah returned with a message of glorious restoration, refreshment and satisfaction in their land. Israel would have a second chance, after spending 70 years in exile.*
    *This teaches us that no matter how far anyone has wandered away from God, the loving arms of the Lord are wide open to receive such if only the individual will retrace their steps like the prodigal son and return to God, the Father of mercy. Our loving Father in heaven is longing to receive as many as will seek His face. A new season of glorious restoration and refreshing starts now.*
    *As youths, we must allow God's word, the wise counsels of our godly parents and righteous leaders in our schools and neighbourhoods to guide our actions and each step we take.     Besetting sin is that bad thing you do constantly which makes God unhappy. It could be bad habits, telling lies, living a life of pretense, using abusive words, even after you confess to be born again.
    Isaac in our Bible passage never knew that his father (Abraham) told the same lies at the same place, and this continued in their family lineage unconsciously. Jacob, with the support of his mother, also told a lie to his father. Your sin will always follow after you, if you do not repent of it. Yours might be anger or hatred towards others.
    Jesus wants to remove such sins from your life and family lineage. *"And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live"* (Deuteronomy 30:6). *Tell Jesus to root out the adamic nature of besetting sin, and make you pure within and without.     *BACKSLIDING, JUDGMENT, MERCY AND RESTORATION*
    *TEXT:* JEREMIAH 50:17-24.
    17 Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.
    18 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.
    19 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead.
    20 In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.
    21 Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.
    22 A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.
    23 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!
    24 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the LORD.
    *Timeless Truth:*_"And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you"_ (Joel 2:25).
    *INTRODUCTION*
    The Book of Judges gives a summary of the events happening to the children of Israel as *"In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes."* . First there is obedience to the Word of God which leads to abundance of blessings and victory over the adversaries. Due to their abundance, they went back into idolatry and sinned after which there came oppression and defeat by the adversary nations for many years. In their afflictions, they cried to God and God showed His mercy and restored them. After restoration to blessings, then backsliding set in and the cycle continued to repeat itself. Such is the life of a believer who is not stable in the Lord. The history of Israel reveals both the severity and the goodness of God. When God's people departed from Him, they suffered oppression because of their disobedience. Yet, God never abandoned His covenant people forever. He promised to judge the cruel nations that afflicted them and to restore the repentant remnant. The text teaches that backsliding attracts divine discipline, wicked oppressors will not escape God's judgment, and sincere repentance always opens the door to God's mercy and restoration.
    *1. The Retribution for Backsliding*
    a. Israel is compared to a scattered sheep driven away by fierce lions. Israel, under the shepherd of the Lion of the tribe of Judah, was supposed to be an unconquerable ruler over every nation on earth since they were promised to be the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 28:13). They only enjoyed this blessing for a few moments under some of their good kings like David, Solomon, Hezekiah and Josiah. Why was the enjoyment of their promised blessings always short lived? Sin of different forms or different shades. What were the consequences) of their sins? Defeat and oppression from the adversaries.
    b. The Assyrian and Babylonian empires became instruments of God's chastisement because of Israel's persistent rebellion. Sin always weakens believers, exposes them to the enemy and robs them of the peace and blessings of God. Backsliding never leaves anyone better than before. A backslider deprives himself of the best of God. Though God disciplines His children, His purpose is to bring them to repentance and renewed fellowship with Him.
    *Question*
    Have you allowed any form of backsliding to expose your life to unnecessary suffering and spiritual defeat?
    *2. The Retribution for the Brutal*
    a. Although God used Babylon as an instrument of judgment, He also held Babylon accountable for its cruelty, pride and violence. *"Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria"*. The Lord declared that He would bring desolation upon the land, and trap the nation because it arrogantly opposed Him. No oppressor, persecutor or wicked person escapes God's righteous judgment. Those who exploit others, fight against God's people or exalt themselves against the Lord will ultimately face His justice. There are those who set up snares for God's people and those who are responsible for the fall of God's people. Such people will definitely be judged by God.
    b. *"Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!"* (Matthew 18:3). Those who cause others to offend God or fall into sin will definitely be recompensed by God.
    *Question*
    Are you involved directly or indirectly ensnare, beloved of God, to fall by your life, compartments etc.?
    *3. Restoration from Backsliding*
    The marvels of God's mercy is God's grace and willingness to totally restore those who are backsliders and are sincerely repentant. Nobody is doomed for destruction except those who willingly reject the mercy of God. The final condemnation of sinners in hell is so severe that God is willing to forgive no matter the gravity of the offence and backsliding. The final word to His people was not destruction, but restoration. He promised to bring Israel back to their own pasture where they would enjoy abundance and satisfaction. Even more wonderful, He declared that their sins would be sought, but not found because He would pardon the remnant whom He preserved. This points to God's abundant mercy toward all who genuinely repent. Through His forgiveness, the repentant sinner is restored to fellowship, usefulness and spiritual fruitfulness.
    *Question*
    Have you genuinely returned to God so that you can experience His complete forgiveness and restoration?
    *Prayer Points*
    1.Father, deliver me from every form of backsliding and keep my heart steadfast in my walk with You .
    2.Lord, forgive all my sins, restore my spiritual strength, and renew my fellowship with You .
    3.Help me to be watchful so that I will never be a source of the fall of anybody .
    4.Heavenly Father, let Your mercy restore every blessing, opportunity, and spiritual inheritance each of Your children have lost through disobedience, in Jesus' name .
    *HYMN:* I have decided to follow Jesus
    *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* EPHESIANS 4-6.l.
    2. Morning Prayer for today.
    MP.i. Morning Prayer
    And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ⏤ 2 Corinthians 12:9
    Grace is but glory begun, and glory is but grace perfected. ⏤ Jonathan Edwards
    O God, our Father, we, Your children, come to You for a blessing. Just as the earth needs the sun and rain from Heaven—so do our lives need Your grace, love, and life. We cannot live without You. Without blessings from You—our souls would die. Pour upon us Your grace and love as we bow at Your feet.
    We have duties to fulfill today, and we need wisdom to do them well. Please bestow upon us the grace that will prepare us for whatever You have planned for us. Help us to live together as a family in a way that honors You. Deepen our love for each other, and help us to be patient and kind in all our interactions. Help us to love like You do. Fill our hearts with Your love—then we will love truly. Destroy all selfishness in us and give us the mind of Christ Jesus. Help us to bear one another's burdens and to be patient with one another. Make our home more and more like Heaven. May we do Your will here as it is done in Heaven. May our love be like Heaven's love in its purity, tenderness, sincerity, and fellowship.
    Give us the grace to help each other grow spiritually, to make each other holier, and to encourage each other to love and good works. May we be a means of grace to one another. This morning, we open our hearts to the Holy Spirit, that we may receive a new baptism of love as we go out for the day. Keep us from falling along the difficult way. Let no harm come to us. Shield us from temptation—or strengthen us to resist it. Bring us all home safely at nightfall when the day is done. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
First there is obedience to the Word of God which leads to abundance of blessings and victory over the adversaries. Due to their abundance, they went back into idolatry and sinned after which there came oppression and defeat by the adversary nations for many years. In their afflictions, they cried to God and God showed His mercy and restored them. After restoration to blessings, then backsliding set in and the cycle continued to repeat itself. Such is the life of a believer who is not stable in the Lord. The history of Israel reveals both the severity and the goodness of God. When God's people departed from Him, they suffered oppression because of their disobedience. Yet, God never abandoned His covenant people forever. He promised to judge the cruel nations that afflicted them and to restore the repentant remnant. The text teaches that backsliding attracts divine discipline, wicked oppressors will not escape God's judgment, and sincere repentance always opens the door to God's mercy and restoration. *1. The Retribution for Backsliding* a. Israel is compared to a scattered sheep driven away by fierce lions. Israel, under the shepherd of the Lion of the tribe of Judah, was supposed to be an unconquerable ruler over every nation on earth since they were promised to be the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 28:13). They only enjoyed this blessing for a few moments under some of their good kings like David, Solomon, Hezekiah and Josiah. Why was the enjoyment of their promised blessings always short lived? Sin of different forms or different shades. What were the consequences) of their sins? Defeat and oppression from the adversaries. b. The Assyrian and Babylonian empires became instruments of God's chastisement because of Israel's persistent rebellion. Sin always weakens believers, exposes them to the enemy and robs them of the peace and blessings of God. Backsliding never leaves anyone better than before. A backslider deprives himself of the best of God. Though God disciplines His children, His purpose is to bring them to repentance and renewed fellowship with Him. *Question* Have you allowed any form of backsliding to expose your life to unnecessary suffering and spiritual defeat? *2. The Retribution for the Brutal* a. Although God used Babylon as an instrument of judgment, He also held Babylon accountable for its cruelty, pride and violence. *"Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria"*. The Lord declared that He would bring desolation upon the land, and trap the nation because it arrogantly opposed Him. No oppressor, persecutor or wicked person escapes God's righteous judgment. Those who exploit others, fight against God's people or exalt themselves against the Lord will ultimately face His justice. There are those who set up snares for God's people and those who are responsible for the fall of God's people. Such people will definitely be judged by God. b. *"Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!"* (Matthew 18:3). Those who cause others to offend God or fall into sin will definitely be recompensed by God. *Question* Are you involved directly or indirectly ensnare, beloved of God, to fall by your life, compartments etc.? *3. Restoration from Backsliding* The marvels of God's mercy is God's grace and willingness to totally restore those who are backsliders and are sincerely repentant. Nobody is doomed for destruction except those who willingly reject the mercy of God. The final condemnation of sinners in hell is so severe that God is willing to forgive no matter the gravity of the offence and backsliding. The final word to His people was not destruction, but restoration. He promised to bring Israel back to their own pasture where they would enjoy abundance and satisfaction. Even more wonderful, He declared that their sins would be sought, but not found because He would pardon the remnant whom He preserved. This points to God's abundant mercy toward all who genuinely repent. Through His forgiveness, the repentant sinner is restored to fellowship, usefulness and spiritual fruitfulness. *Question* Have you genuinely returned to God so that you can experience His complete forgiveness and restoration? *Prayer Points* 1.Father, deliver me from every form of backsliding and keep my heart steadfast in my walk with You 🙏. 2.Lord, forgive all my sins, restore my spiritual strength, and renew my fellowship with You 🙏. 3.Help me to be watchful so that I will never be a source of the fall of anybody 🙏. 4.Heavenly Father, let Your mercy restore every blessing, opportunity, and spiritual inheritance each of Your children have lost through disobedience, in Jesus' name 🙏. *HYMN:* I have decided to follow Jesus *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* EPHESIANS 4-6.l. 2. Morning Prayer for today. MP.i. Morning Prayer And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ⏤ 2 Corinthians 12:9 Grace is but glory begun, and glory is but grace perfected. ⏤ Jonathan Edwards O God, our Father, we, Your children, come to You for a blessing. Just as the earth needs the sun and rain from Heaven—so do our lives need Your grace, love, and life. We cannot live without You. Without blessings from You—our souls would die. Pour upon us Your grace and love as we bow at Your feet. We have duties to fulfill today, and we need wisdom to do them well. Please bestow upon us the grace that will prepare us for whatever You have planned for us. Help us to live together as a family in a way that honors You. Deepen our love for each other, and help us to be patient and kind in all our interactions. Help us to love like You do. Fill our hearts with Your love—then we will love truly. Destroy all selfishness in us and give us the mind of Christ Jesus. Help us to bear one another's burdens and to be patient with one another. Make our home more and more like Heaven. May we do Your will here as it is done in Heaven. May our love be like Heaven's love in its purity, tenderness, sincerity, and fellowship. Give us the grace to help each other grow spiritually, to make each other holier, and to encourage each other to love and good works. May we be a means of grace to one another. This morning, we open our hearts to the Holy Spirit, that we may receive a new baptism of love as we go out for the day. Keep us from falling along the difficult way. Let no harm come to us. Shield us from temptation—or strengthen us to resist it. Bring us all home safely at nightfall when the day is done. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. https://www.youdevotion.com/daily-prayer/miller/25/morning #taptapstudio #youdevotion.
  • EGYPT:
    An Egyptian priest dressed in white was in his sanctuary. His name was Potipherah. A torch was lit and placed in a stone handle on the wall. The limestone walls were covered with sacred hieroglyphs that narrated the ancient stories of the gods, and before him was the majestic and beautiful statue of his beloved solar deity, Ra. The statue of Ra was at the center of the altar. On his right was the beautiful goddess, Isis, breast-feeding her son Horus, and on the left was Osiris, lord of the afterlife. The sanctuary had other small statues of the gods of Egypt, like Horus the adult with his head in the shape of a falcon and his long hair, the goddess Bastet with a cat head, Anubis, with a jackal head, and a few amulets of the same gods that were used for protection.
    Potipherah loved the gods and believed the gods loved him back, which was why he was praying to Ra that night. He was a bit anxious because he had recently awoken from a nightmare.
    "Mighty Ra, I know that it is better to pray to you during the day, but I had the most disturbing dream. I pray to you for your protection. I am not sure what this dream means. I believe that you or one of the gods has sent me a message tonight. There will be a foreigner among us. A foreigner who will rule. I pray to you that this does not happen. Please prevent it. Egypt is mighty and prosperous, and I am afraid that we might be conquered. I pray to you. Please prevent a conquest of Egypt, if that is what will pass. I love you. I venerate you and worship you. I beg you to listen to my prayer—me, the Priest of On, Potipherah, your humble and obedient servant. Ra, I will leave you here with this offering of fruits. Please, I beg you to accept this offering in exchange for an answer."
    Potipherah then grabbed a basket filled with the best fruits for the god Ra, fruits like dates, figs, grapes, and raisins. He left the basket at the foot of the statue. Potipherah looked up at his god and bowed, showing deep respect to the statue. Then, he prayed to the other gods beside Ra and made offerings to them too.
    He lit some frankincense, closed his eyes, and prayed silently again. After he was done, he approached the statues and kissed the feet of each one. He grabbed the torch from the sanctuary's sconce and took it with him. The sanctuary remained dark. Afterwards, he left the room and noticed that his daughter, Asenath, was calling him. She was in her bedroom, in her bed, whispering to him.
    "Father. Father. Father," she said.
    Potipherah walked into her room. Potipherah placed the torch on his daughter's sconce. The bedroom had hieroglyphs on the walls and paintings of Pharaoh, Ra, Bastet, Osiris, Horus, Isis, and other gods. She slept in a wooden, long, rectangular-shaped bed carved with lions' paws. Her sheets, fitting her status as the daughter of a wealthy high priest, were woven from the finest, bleached Egyptian linen.
    "Asenath? Why are you up, you little girl? Your teacher will come tomorrow," Potipherah told her.
    "Father, I heard you were up. I was scared," Asenath said. Potipherah hugged his daughter.
    "All is well, sweetheart. Go to sleep," Potipherah told her, and he kissed her on the cheek.
    "Father, I had a strange dream," Asenath told him, and this immediately interested her father.
    "You did?" Potipherah asked her, and although he could only see shades of her in the dim firelight, he noticed a brief smile. She nodded.
    "Yes, father, I did," she replied, so Potipherah asked her about it.
    "I dreamed of a boy. He was very cute. He looked at me and smiled. Then he held my hand," Asenath said.
    "And what happened next?" Potipherah asked.
    "That's all. Then, I woke up. Oh, father, he was so cute. I didn't want to wake up. I wanted him to kiss me," Asenath said. Potipherah arched an eyebrow.
    "Asenath, and tell me, what did you feel during this dream?" Potipherah asked her.
    "Love, father. I felt loved," she replied. This was not the answer he expected, but it wasn't a bad answer.
    "Okay, time to go to sleep now. Your teacher is coming early tomorrow," Potipherah told her, and then he tucked her in.
    "Goodnight, sweetheart. May Osiris and Isis protect you," Potipherah told her. Asenath lay back and smiled.
    "Thank you, father. May Ra protect you," she replied.
    Potipherah kissed her on the cheek, and then he took the torch from the sconce and left. He thought that this peaceful dream was the exact answer that he needed from Ra. He believed the offering had been accepted, and so, as he walked to his room, he thanked the god for answering his prayer—wholly unaware that the true, living God of Heaven was already arranging the pieces of history.
    HEBRON:
    Everything was dark until the fireball appeared before him. It was huge, radiant, and hot. Then, a few feet in front of that huge ball of fire, appeared a silver sphere. Joseph realized that he was looking at the sun and at the moon. Later on, tiny dots of bright lights appeared in the dark void. Joseph counted each one, and together they amounted to eleven. These, he noticed, were stars. The rest of the universe was dark.
    "The sun, the moon, and the stars," Joseph said to himself.
    The sun, the moon, and the stars strangely developed into bodies that were all dressed in white undergarments. Joseph noticed that the bodies seemed familiar. One of the stars had the body of a boy who looked like Benjamin. Another one had the body of a man, and it looked like Reuben's. The moon had a female body; maybe the moon was Leah. The sun looked like his father, Jacob. All of them bowed down flat to the earth before Joseph, giving reverence to him. Joseph woke up to the light of day, the prophetic weight of the vision resting heavily upon his spirit.
  • EVIDENCE OF OCCULT OPPRESSION AND SUBJECTION. Part 1 of 3
    We must distinguish between general oppression and occult oppression and subjection. The symptoms may be similar in many respects, but in several important aspects they are not. The marks of occult involvement are easily distinguished to one experienced in this particular area of deliverance.
    As a result of failing to distinguish between occult oppression and general demonic oppression issuing from other causes, many who have had prayer for deliverance have not been permanently set free. As we will show, those who have been involved in occultism have opened a "door" of access to oppressing spirits which they themselves must close by positive action and faith on their part. Moreover, liberation from occult oppression or subjection requires proper understanding of its peculiar nature and cause, the specific method of deliverance required, and the spiritual responsibilities of the one who has received deliverance from occult oppression.
    General oppression, whether mental, physical, or spiritual, may result from any one of several causes. For example, it may result from some traumatic experience, sin, weakness, emotional crisis, resentment, hate, pride, fear, or illness. Occult oppression and subjection, however, always result from an individual's involvement in some form of fortunetelling, magic practice, spiritism, or false religious cult, either as practitioner, or, as is most often the case, as subject, follower, or participant.
    Moreover, experience has shown that it is possible for a person to be "passively" subjected or oppressed, even though he has never actively participated in the occult. The Biblical basis for this fact is Exodus 20:3-6: God's "curse" falls upon "the children unto the third and fourth generation" of those who violate His commandment by calling upon other gods (demonic spirits and powers), which they do through involvement in the occult, for the purpose of breaking through the bounds which God has set for man.
    The magnitude of the sin of occult involvement, which is an abomination to God (Deuteronomy 18:12), is confirmed by its deep power of enslavement, not only upon the participants themselves, but even upon their descendants. The reality of such passive oppression and subjection has been shown in the preceding study.
    Both from Scripture and from experience it is evident that evil spirits who oppress human victims are of various kinds, and work in a variety of ways. There are blind spirits, deaf spirits, epileptic spirits, deceiving spirits, and lying spirits; spirits of pride, intellectualism, lust, infirmity, insanity, homosexuality, suicide, fear, apathy, anger, discord, strife, hate, resentment, depression, stubbornness, misunderstanding, gossip, obscenity, and many others. Oppression may be subjective, such as insanity, lust, or loss of health through disease and affliction; or objective, in which case the victim may be plagued by demonic apparitions and voices, or troubled by discord and strife through vexation by evil spirits.
    These malevolent spirits are definite personalities, not mere habits, diseases, psychological conditions, or states of mind. Just as human beings vary in personality, power, ability, appetites, intelligence, and purpose, so do the demonic spirits. Their primary intention, as disembodied spirits, is to oppress or possess a person appealing to their particular nature or appetites, in order to hide, as it were, behind these traits, habits, weaknesses, and mental or physical conditions, and thereby escape detection.
    An individual given to sexual looseness and excess, for instance, opens the door to demonic control in this particular area of his life by a spirit of lust with this characteristic appetite. The same would be true concerning a person who has a violent temper which he does not bring under control, or those who are given to pride, jealousy, hate, depression, gluttony, drug addiction, or any other weakness of character, mind or body. Demonic spirits seek to oppress those whose make-up, character, temperament, appetites, and moral, mental, or physical weaknesses are most harmonious to themselves. They bury themselves in the very structure of the person and actually identify with the personality of the victim insofar as possible.
    This is why it is difficult for the novice to discern, or the medical doctor, psychologist, and psychiatrist to admit, the reality and activity of demonic spirits in such victims. The latter reduce such diseases as epilepsy, cancer, blindness and deafness, as well as abnormal personality and behavior problems, to functional or organic disorders. Hence, the presence and activity of demonic spirits in their victims are often described by other terms such as: complexes, habits, drives, hallucinations, delusions, delirium tremens, insanity, epilepsy, melancholia, masochism, homosexuality, schizophrenia, mania, depression, psychoneurosis, psychosis, compulsions, drug addiction, disease, and so on. Not that the terms are entirely inaccurate, but in many cases they are inadequate. They do not go deep enough in identifying the conditions and phenomena connected with the work of the powers of darkness in the lives of the oppressed.
    Likewise, the parapsychologist describes the various manifestations of demonic powers by such terms as clairvoyance, telepathy, extrasensory perception, eidetic imagery, hypnotic suggestion, precognition, telesthesia, psychic phenomena, and so forth. He holds that such paranormal abilities and powers are merely manifestations and projections of the human subconscious or psyche, or that they can be explained in some other natural and rational manner as a rule.
    Thus, the presence and activity of such personal entities as demonic spirits are not easily perceptible to the analytical investigators of the paranormal, for the precise reason that Satan does not publicly announce his presence and work in an individual by handing out "calling cards"!
    However, growing numbers of psychologists, psychiatrists, and physicians are beginning to see and admit that they can no longer dismiss demonic oppression as mere religious delusion or pagan superstition. They are finding it to be a dreadful reality, and that there are definite limits beyond which medicine and psychiatry cannot penetrate to bring the necessary liberation to the suffering individual.
    In one instance, the church which a certain person pastored was contacted by a Christian psychologist asking for prayer for the deliverance of one of his patients. He recognized that the woman was bound and oppressed by Satan and that he was unable to help her with mere technical knowledge and skills. After the church prayed in faith for her liberation in the Name of Jesus, the psychologist reported that she had been set free. He was then able to counsel effectively with her, which he had been unable to do previously.
    Dr. William S. Reed, a well-known American surgeon, was reported to have said that he, as a surgeon, was convinced that many psychological and physical illnesses are the result of demonic attacks upon the individual; that on the basis of Mark 16:17, he himself used exorcism (casting out of evil spirits) when guided to do so; and that modern medicine and psychiatry should seriously consider the ministry of exorcism.
    Often the connections between occult involvement and the oppression which results are so subtle that people are completely unaware of the insidious relationship until it is pointed out. For instance, who would have connected the chronic physical illness of Mrs. L. with her visit to a fortune teller? Mr. R. did not believe that his playing with the ouija board had any adverse spiritual effects upon him until it was manifested in his inability to exercise faith to receive the Holy Spirit. For many years Mrs. T. was unaware that her persistent marital problems and apathy toward life began the day after her participation in a seance. And who would have seen the cause of the chronic phobias and doubts of another person who had been healed as an infant by an occult or magic healer?
    Mr. B. regularly visited fortune tellers, but did not realize until it was shown him that this accounted for an uncontrollable spirit of lust, from which he could not escape, and also explained his pride, indifference, immaturity, and hate. A brutal, demon possessed child, subject to periods of violent rage, was the result of the parents' participation in the occult, but this was unknown until counseling revealed the cause. Mrs. C. suffered from severe depression and thoughts of self destruction, little realizing that her participation in seances was the cause.
    Miss W. had been committed to a mental institution at one time, spent much money visiting doctors, psychologists, and psychiatrists, and had sought help and counseling from many sources concerning her psychotic condition, all to no avail. Little did she realize that it resulted from her past fortunetelling practices and other occult connections. Likewise, Mrs. G. was unaware that her visits to the fortune tellers were responsible for the "voices" she heard and demonic apparitions she saw, until this was shown her in counseling. Who would have seen a connection between the morbid depression and extreme negativism of Mr. V. and his visits to meetings of Spiritualists and other religious cults such as Theosophy and Rosicrucians, even though he only went out of curiosity?
    Homosexuality and fear of crowds were the result of another individual's involvement in the practice of table-tipping and consulting the ouija board as a child. The rapid mental and physical deterioration of another victim of occult oppression was traced to submission to hypnotism and treatment by "Concept Therapy." Mrs. D. found through counseling that her depression and lack of desire for spiritual things followed her visit to a fortune teller. Although he had prepared for the ministry, Mr. T. later fell back into the world, was divorced, and lost interest in Christianity. He was then surprised to learn that his troubles stemmed from his practice of self-hypnosis, astrology, and other occult interests.
    The removal of warts by magic charming and involvement in other magic practices has resulted in alcoholism, oppression by sex spirits, and other forms of demonic oppression in some cases. The parents' participation in occult practices resulted in a young man and a young woman being oppressed by demonic apparitions and vexed with other problems. Palm reading was the cause of one woman's serious domestic problems, and another's oppression in which she heard voices and saw a ghostly apparition.
    Water dowsing explained the resistance of one man to the Scriptural teaching concerning the Holy Spirit. It was also the cause of another's vexation with a serious problem over which he could not achieve victory, and resulted in insanity to still another who practiced this ancient heathen method of divining. Playing with the ouija board and visits to fortunetellers led Mrs. F. to attempt suicide. The consequence of having a burn "blown" away by magic charming was severe depression for Mrs. R. The relation between the mental illness of Mrs. A. and her practice of table-tipping as a child seemed remote until she experienced immediate liberation upon confessing this occult sin and receiving prayer for deliverance.
    Another, who could have no assurance of salvation, due to oppression by a deceiving spirit, was delivered when she was shown the connection between her mental suffering and a healing she had received from a psychometric healer who diagnosed her illness by touch. Chronic asthma was the consequence of involvement in magical practices, from which a sufferer was set free upon learning of the cause. Liberation from severe mental, physical, and spiritual oppression came to another who fell victim to the insidious powers of darkness after visits to Spiritualists' meetings, while another was set free from psychic subjection which resulted from occult practices, when shown the source and nature of her extrasensory powers.
    The examples from this certain pastor’s files could be multiplied, for there are few families in which at least one member has not had contact with occult spirits in one form or another, with its resultant oppression or subjection. Although few people are aware of the various forms in which occult oppression and subjection express themselves, there is no doubt that occult involvement always results in bondage. This conclusion is based on a pastor’s experiences in deliverance. First he had established the connection between the occult involvement and the bondage, then the oppressed individual confessed his occult sins and commanded Satan to depart. The result is always the same: the person is delivered. In instances where the individual was also psychically subjected (having extrasensory powers, seeing apparitions, hearing spirit voices, and so on), these experiences have immediately ceased, thereby proving their occult source.
    A distinction should be made between "subjection" and "oppression" resulting from occult involvement. Subjection means that malevolent spirits have brought the victim under the domination and control of the powers of darkness. The victim has been made subject to, or enslaved by, such things as sexual lust, violent temper, drugs, uncontrollable thoughts, resistance to divine things, compulsive behavior, lying, hate, religious delusions, self-pity, or forms of occultism. A person thus subjected often becomes psychic himself, and is so enslaved by occultism that he lacks the will, and sometimes even the desire, to be set free.
    Oppression resulting from occult involvement means that the victim has been afflicted with some form of mental, physical, emotional, or psychic ailment or distress such as depression, fear, mental illness, disease, pain, apathy, marital discord, compulsive thoughts of suicide, apparitions, and so forth.
    The characteristics listed in the rest of this study are evidences of occult subjection and oppression. Some of these symptoms may result from other causes, but the existence of any of these manifestations usually indicates the presence and activity of demonic spirits, as well as the need for deliverance.
    Occult subjection and oppression may be classified for clarification into five categories: Mental and Emotional; Psychic; Spiritual; Physical; Material, Domestic, and Social.
    A. Mental and Emotional Disturbances and Abnormalities.
    Contrary to common wisdom, many psychoneuroses, psychoses, and other mental and emotional abnormalities result, not from functional or organic causes, but from occult involvement. Some of the following symptoms could be classified as "psychic" disturbances or abnormalities in character; however, we will purposely be limiting our later discussion of "psychic" subjection and oppression to the strict parapsychological sense of the term, namely, to extrasensory functioning, such as clairvoyance, telepathy, and precognition, and to such psychic phenomena as apparitions or poltergeist activity. Note further that "mental and emotional" does not necessarily imply "inward," but many of the following mental and emotional disturbances and abnormalities will also affect the outward behavior of the oppressed individual.
    1. Psychoses indicative of occult oppression or subjection.
    Symptoms in this category include serious, prolonged depression or melancholia; resignation to failure or misfortune; habitual gloominess, morbidity and negativism, boredom and indifference (ennui), as well as apathy in general.
    Persons thus afflicted are often more interested in their own inward thoughts than in what goes on around them, and may respond in an abnormal, dull manner to others and to reality. They manifest extreme introversion; that is, they live within themselves and take no interest in their surroundings. At times they shun others, withdrawing and spending long periods of time alone, sometimes in a darkened room with the shades drawn, in a morose state of mind. Excessive weeping may also accompany this condition, as well as self-accusation of sins, frequently with thoughts of self-destruction. Such individuals often lack normal emotional response and contact with reality. They live in a private world where little affects them except their own fantasies and dreams.
    In some oppressed persons, this state of depression alternates with a directly opposite mood of extreme joy, happiness, exhilaration, and optimistic outlook. This mental disorder, known as manic-depressive psychosis, is characterized by extreme, sudden changes in mood, fluctuating up and down, often without warning.
    Delusions, so-called hallucinations, and psychic oppression are frequently present in victims of occult involvement who have become psychotic. There may be compulsive thoughts of violence and aggression, and destructive emotions of hate, rage, resentment, jealousy, suspicion, envy, malice, and other antisocial abnormalities. Great excitement and perturbation over trivial matters, and other indications of mania are often seen, as well as unpredictable impulses, moods, actions, and other psychopathic indications of insanity.
    There is often found in such persons a continual "flight of ideas." The individual goes off on one tangent or another, often without completing a thought, and there is a general incoherence of thoughts and ideas. Generally, they are irresponsible, unpredictable, and undependable. Unreasonable attitudes or demands are characteristic of demonic activity in such persons.
    As a result of occult involvement, some individuals are in subjection to extreme and uncontrollable passions and appetites. Vile language, sexual allusions or displays are common, together with inexplicable character or personality changes toward moral degeneracy. There may be found such sexual aberrations as homosexuality, masochism, self-abuse, promiscuity, sadism, abnormal sexuality, uncontrollable lustful thoughts and images, and suggestive behavior and dress.
    The presence and activity of demonic powers is also indicated by enslavement to evil habits such as drug addiction, gluttony (compulsive eating), addiction to alcohol or tobacco, compulsive gambling, and many other forms of excess and intemperance.
    2. Psychoneuroses indicative of occult oppression and subjection.
    A neurotic person exhibits symptoms such as persistent, chronic fear or dread. Generally, there is a morbid anxiety that something dreadful is about to happen, or that one has not done something he ought to have done, or has done something that he should not have done, and so on. There are often feelings of apprehension, consternation, panic and hysteria, or evidence of strong nervous tension. The individual often works and lives at a frenzied pace, frequently suffering insomnia and extreme restlessness. Other abnormalities seen in neurotics include difficulty in making decisions, inability to adjust normally to certain situations, and the need of constant guidance and reassurance by others because of personal feelings of inadequacy and immaturity, or the fear of failure. Extreme hypersensitivity, irritability, and impatience are common. The individual is often ill-humored, argumentative, defiant, negative, always "on the defensive," and highly critical of others in an effort to justify his own deep feelings of inadequacy.
    The most pathetic and difficult forms of neurotic oppression to deal with are the deep-rooted feelings of self-pity and the abnormal desire for attention found in some individuals. They dread being alone for any length of time and have need of constant companionship and conversation. They often feel mistreated, misunderstood, misrepresented, and disliked by others. Frequently, they develop some psychosomatic ailment or disease as a result of the subconscious desire for attention, in order to find escape through sickness from the problems and perplexities of life. Such persons, called "hypochondriacs," seek to control and manipulate others by the shrewd use of their illness. Their households and families are forced to adjust to their abnormal life and whims, sacrificing everything for their personal comfort. Edited. Shared.
    ❤️EVIDENCE OF OCCULT OPPRESSION AND SUBJECTION. Part 1 of 3 We must distinguish between general oppression and occult oppression and subjection. The symptoms may be similar in many respects, but in several important aspects they are not. The marks of occult involvement are easily distinguished to one experienced in this particular area of deliverance. As a result of failing to distinguish between occult oppression and general demonic oppression issuing from other causes, many who have had prayer for deliverance have not been permanently set free. As we will show, those who have been involved in occultism have opened a "door" of access to oppressing spirits which they themselves must close by positive action and faith on their part. Moreover, liberation from occult oppression or subjection requires proper understanding of its peculiar nature and cause, the specific method of deliverance required, and the spiritual responsibilities of the one who has received deliverance from occult oppression. General oppression, whether mental, physical, or spiritual, may result from any one of several causes. For example, it may result from some traumatic experience, sin, weakness, emotional crisis, resentment, hate, pride, fear, or illness. Occult oppression and subjection, however, always result from an individual's involvement in some form of fortunetelling, magic practice, spiritism, or false religious cult, either as practitioner, or, as is most often the case, as subject, follower, or participant. Moreover, experience has shown that it is possible for a person to be "passively" subjected or oppressed, even though he has never actively participated in the occult. The Biblical basis for this fact is Exodus 20:3-6: God's "curse" falls upon "the children unto the third and fourth generation" of those who violate His commandment by calling upon other gods (demonic spirits and powers), which they do through involvement in the occult, for the purpose of breaking through the bounds which God has set for man. The magnitude of the sin of occult involvement, which is an abomination to God (Deuteronomy 18:12), is confirmed by its deep power of enslavement, not only upon the participants themselves, but even upon their descendants. The reality of such passive oppression and subjection has been shown in the preceding study. Both from Scripture and from experience it is evident that evil spirits who oppress human victims are of various kinds, and work in a variety of ways. There are blind spirits, deaf spirits, epileptic spirits, deceiving spirits, and lying spirits; spirits of pride, intellectualism, lust, infirmity, insanity, homosexuality, suicide, fear, apathy, anger, discord, strife, hate, resentment, depression, stubbornness, misunderstanding, gossip, obscenity, and many others. Oppression may be subjective, such as insanity, lust, or loss of health through disease and affliction; or objective, in which case the victim may be plagued by demonic apparitions and voices, or troubled by discord and strife through vexation by evil spirits. These malevolent spirits are definite personalities, not mere habits, diseases, psychological conditions, or states of mind. Just as human beings vary in personality, power, ability, appetites, intelligence, and purpose, so do the demonic spirits. Their primary intention, as disembodied spirits, is to oppress or possess a person appealing to their particular nature or appetites, in order to hide, as it were, behind these traits, habits, weaknesses, and mental or physical conditions, and thereby escape detection. An individual given to sexual looseness and excess, for instance, opens the door to demonic control in this particular area of his life by a spirit of lust with this characteristic appetite. The same would be true concerning a person who has a violent temper which he does not bring under control, or those who are given to pride, jealousy, hate, depression, gluttony, drug addiction, or any other weakness of character, mind or body. Demonic spirits seek to oppress those whose make-up, character, temperament, appetites, and moral, mental, or physical weaknesses are most harmonious to themselves. They bury themselves in the very structure of the person and actually identify with the personality of the victim insofar as possible. This is why it is difficult for the novice to discern, or the medical doctor, psychologist, and psychiatrist to admit, the reality and activity of demonic spirits in such victims. The latter reduce such diseases as epilepsy, cancer, blindness and deafness, as well as abnormal personality and behavior problems, to functional or organic disorders. Hence, the presence and activity of demonic spirits in their victims are often described by other terms such as: complexes, habits, drives, hallucinations, delusions, delirium tremens, insanity, epilepsy, melancholia, masochism, homosexuality, schizophrenia, mania, depression, psychoneurosis, psychosis, compulsions, drug addiction, disease, and so on. Not that the terms are entirely inaccurate, but in many cases they are inadequate. They do not go deep enough in identifying the conditions and phenomena connected with the work of the powers of darkness in the lives of the oppressed. Likewise, the parapsychologist describes the various manifestations of demonic powers by such terms as clairvoyance, telepathy, extrasensory perception, eidetic imagery, hypnotic suggestion, precognition, telesthesia, psychic phenomena, and so forth. He holds that such paranormal abilities and powers are merely manifestations and projections of the human subconscious or psyche, or that they can be explained in some other natural and rational manner as a rule. Thus, the presence and activity of such personal entities as demonic spirits are not easily perceptible to the analytical investigators of the paranormal, for the precise reason that Satan does not publicly announce his presence and work in an individual by handing out "calling cards"! However, growing numbers of psychologists, psychiatrists, and physicians are beginning to see and admit that they can no longer dismiss demonic oppression as mere religious delusion or pagan superstition. They are finding it to be a dreadful reality, and that there are definite limits beyond which medicine and psychiatry cannot penetrate to bring the necessary liberation to the suffering individual. In one instance, the church which a certain person pastored was contacted by a Christian psychologist asking for prayer for the deliverance of one of his patients. He recognized that the woman was bound and oppressed by Satan and that he was unable to help her with mere technical knowledge and skills. After the church prayed in faith for her liberation in the Name of Jesus, the psychologist reported that she had been set free. He was then able to counsel effectively with her, which he had been unable to do previously. Dr. William S. Reed, a well-known American surgeon, was reported to have said that he, as a surgeon, was convinced that many psychological and physical illnesses are the result of demonic attacks upon the individual; that on the basis of Mark 16:17, he himself used exorcism (casting out of evil spirits) when guided to do so; and that modern medicine and psychiatry should seriously consider the ministry of exorcism. Often the connections between occult involvement and the oppression which results are so subtle that people are completely unaware of the insidious relationship until it is pointed out. For instance, who would have connected the chronic physical illness of Mrs. L. with her visit to a fortune teller? Mr. R. did not believe that his playing with the ouija board had any adverse spiritual effects upon him until it was manifested in his inability to exercise faith to receive the Holy Spirit. For many years Mrs. T. was unaware that her persistent marital problems and apathy toward life began the day after her participation in a seance. And who would have seen the cause of the chronic phobias and doubts of another person who had been healed as an infant by an occult or magic healer? Mr. B. regularly visited fortune tellers, but did not realize until it was shown him that this accounted for an uncontrollable spirit of lust, from which he could not escape, and also explained his pride, indifference, immaturity, and hate. A brutal, demon possessed child, subject to periods of violent rage, was the result of the parents' participation in the occult, but this was unknown until counseling revealed the cause. Mrs. C. suffered from severe depression and thoughts of self destruction, little realizing that her participation in seances was the cause. Miss W. had been committed to a mental institution at one time, spent much money visiting doctors, psychologists, and psychiatrists, and had sought help and counseling from many sources concerning her psychotic condition, all to no avail. Little did she realize that it resulted from her past fortunetelling practices and other occult connections. Likewise, Mrs. G. was unaware that her visits to the fortune tellers were responsible for the "voices" she heard and demonic apparitions she saw, until this was shown her in counseling. Who would have seen a connection between the morbid depression and extreme negativism of Mr. V. and his visits to meetings of Spiritualists and other religious cults such as Theosophy and Rosicrucians, even though he only went out of curiosity? Homosexuality and fear of crowds were the result of another individual's involvement in the practice of table-tipping and consulting the ouija board as a child. The rapid mental and physical deterioration of another victim of occult oppression was traced to submission to hypnotism and treatment by "Concept Therapy." Mrs. D. found through counseling that her depression and lack of desire for spiritual things followed her visit to a fortune teller. Although he had prepared for the ministry, Mr. T. later fell back into the world, was divorced, and lost interest in Christianity. He was then surprised to learn that his troubles stemmed from his practice of self-hypnosis, astrology, and other occult interests. The removal of warts by magic charming and involvement in other magic practices has resulted in alcoholism, oppression by sex spirits, and other forms of demonic oppression in some cases. The parents' participation in occult practices resulted in a young man and a young woman being oppressed by demonic apparitions and vexed with other problems. Palm reading was the cause of one woman's serious domestic problems, and another's oppression in which she heard voices and saw a ghostly apparition. Water dowsing explained the resistance of one man to the Scriptural teaching concerning the Holy Spirit. It was also the cause of another's vexation with a serious problem over which he could not achieve victory, and resulted in insanity to still another who practiced this ancient heathen method of divining. Playing with the ouija board and visits to fortunetellers led Mrs. F. to attempt suicide. The consequence of having a burn "blown" away by magic charming was severe depression for Mrs. R. The relation between the mental illness of Mrs. A. and her practice of table-tipping as a child seemed remote until she experienced immediate liberation upon confessing this occult sin and receiving prayer for deliverance. Another, who could have no assurance of salvation, due to oppression by a deceiving spirit, was delivered when she was shown the connection between her mental suffering and a healing she had received from a psychometric healer who diagnosed her illness by touch. Chronic asthma was the consequence of involvement in magical practices, from which a sufferer was set free upon learning of the cause. Liberation from severe mental, physical, and spiritual oppression came to another who fell victim to the insidious powers of darkness after visits to Spiritualists' meetings, while another was set free from psychic subjection which resulted from occult practices, when shown the source and nature of her extrasensory powers. The examples from this certain pastor’s files could be multiplied, for there are few families in which at least one member has not had contact with occult spirits in one form or another, with its resultant oppression or subjection. Although few people are aware of the various forms in which occult oppression and subjection express themselves, there is no doubt that occult involvement always results in bondage. This conclusion is based on a pastor’s experiences in deliverance. First he had established the connection between the occult involvement and the bondage, then the oppressed individual confessed his occult sins and commanded Satan to depart. The result is always the same: the person is delivered. In instances where the individual was also psychically subjected (having extrasensory powers, seeing apparitions, hearing spirit voices, and so on), these experiences have immediately ceased, thereby proving their occult source. A distinction should be made between "subjection" and "oppression" resulting from occult involvement. Subjection means that malevolent spirits have brought the victim under the domination and control of the powers of darkness. The victim has been made subject to, or enslaved by, such things as sexual lust, violent temper, drugs, uncontrollable thoughts, resistance to divine things, compulsive behavior, lying, hate, religious delusions, self-pity, or forms of occultism. A person thus subjected often becomes psychic himself, and is so enslaved by occultism that he lacks the will, and sometimes even the desire, to be set free.   • HELL
    A dungeon horrible, on all sides round,
    As one great furnace flamed; yet from those flames
    No light; but rather darkness visible
    Served only to discover sights of woe,
    Regions of sorrow, doleful shades, where peace
    And rest can never dwell, hope never comes
    That comes to all, but torture without end
    Ingratitude is a Sin!
    Because of the LORD’S great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. Lamentations 3:22,26
    The headmaster of New College in Edinburgh, Scotland used to ask the blessing at the noon meal by praying, “O Thou who has endowed us with so many gifts, now grant to us just one more—a grateful heart.” If there is one human failure, it is our habit of assuming credit for things which can be properly ascribed only to the great goodness of God.
    The sin of ingratitude is a virus of the old nature that seems never to be quite eradicated. How about it? Do you take the blessings of God quite for granted? Do you ever fill your lungs with clean, fresh air and thank God that you are alive? Do you ever watch the sun paint the horizon with shades of orange, yellow and gold, and thank Him for your sight? Do you ever polish your glasses, as I often do, and say, “Lord, thanks, even for my bifocals—I sure would be in a mess without them.”
    Do you ever turn on the shower, and as the hot water beats a staccato on your back, say, “God, thank You for hot water and fresh towels”? Do you tuck your children in at night, and as you kneel by the side of your bed and tousle their hair, say, “Lord, thank You for my children even when they put Crayola on the wallpaper and break my best dishes or throw the phone in the pool?”
    Gratitude is a memory of the heart; it’s the recognition of all that God has done for us. I received a letter from a listener, who had been praying specifically for a rather large amount of money, and the individual who wrote was quite put out with God because the money hadn’t come in; it started me thinking about God and His goodness to us. The individual who wrote seemed to feel that God had an obligation to perform, that He owed him a personal debt, and that by not allowing the money to come in had failed him.
    Did God let him down? Perhaps it would be better to ask, “What right does anyone have to order God to do something?” In reality, God owes you nothing; it is totally of His grace and mercy that He has blessed us. As James said, “We ask wrongly that we may consume our requests on our own selfish interests.”
    Long ago Jeremiah wrote, “Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” But Jeremiah didn’t stop there. He continued, “I say to myself, The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him. The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him; it is good,” he said, “to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord” (Lamentations 3:22-26).
    Friend, take inventory of God’s blessings, and as you do, be sure to thank Him for what He has withheld as well as for what He has given. Do you ever thank Him for what could have happened but didn’t? For what He wisely saw fit to withhold from you though you asked Him for it so diligently, fully thinking that that was exactly what you needed? Pressed by the needs of life and living, we often see only the next deadline, the burden of tomorrow’s load, the immediate problem, instead of the blessing of God today. Surely, the Psalmist had the heartbeat of God Himself when he wrote, “Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness … for His wonderful works to the children of men” (Psalm 107:8).
    Wherever you are, and no matter what you are doing, and no matter how pressing the need before you, stop, and take inventory of today. And ponder the goodness of the Lord and His faithfulness and lift your heart and voice in thanksgiving, saying, “God, thanks for being here today.”
  • A Worthy Guide
    Is it possible to live a life that honors God? Is it achievable to train our minds and bodies to do what we know is right—instead of feeling powerless against temptation?
    Paul’s letter to the churches in Galatia is a guide for such questions:
    “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.”
    Galatians 5:16
    Without surrendering and submitting to God’s lead, our sinful nature is at war with what God has for us.
    Left to ourselves, we crave what the world desires. And the more we give into our unique shades of temptation, the more we crave (like craving sweets for the sugar, or craving pornography for the dopamine rush). But with the help of the Holy Spirit, who softens and molds and reshapes our hearts, we can learn to crave what God’s deemed best.
    To put it simply, the secret to living a godly life is the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit just so happens to be God—one of the three persons of the Trinity: the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit.
    Jesus has already done the hard and beautiful work of salvation—by living, dying, and rising again for the sake of His children—but now He wants to continue His mighty work in us and through us.
    If it sounds impossible, it is impossible—if you’re fighting by yourself. But, as Jesus told His disciples, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” (Mark 10:27 NIV) The psalmist also brought another valuable perspective, writing, “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.” (Psalms‬ ‭119:9‬ ‭NIV)‬‬
    When we cling to His Word, which was inspired by the Holy Spirit, it’s not only possible—but also probable—to live a life that honors Him.
    A Worthy Guide Is it possible to live a life that honors God? Is it achievable to train our minds and bodies to do what we know is right—instead of feeling powerless against temptation? Paul’s letter to the churches in Galatia is a guide for such questions: “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.” Galatians 5:16 Without surrendering and submitting to God’s lead, our sinful nature is at war with what God has for us. Left to ourselves, we crave what the world desires. And the more we give into our unique shades of temptation, the more we crave (like craving sweets for the sugar, or craving pornography for the dopamine rush). But with the help of the Holy Spirit, who softens and molds and reshapes our hearts, we can learn to crave what God’s deemed best. To put it simply, the secret to living a godly life is the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit just so happens to be God—one of the three persons of the Trinity: the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. Jesus has already done the hard and beautiful work of salvation—by living, dying, and rising again for the sake of His children—but now He wants to continue His mighty work in us and through us.  If it sounds impossible, it is impossible—if you’re fighting by yourself. But, as Jesus told His disciples, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” (Mark 10:27 NIV) The psalmist also brought another valuable perspective, writing, “How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
