This is a position of honour because they are now: (i) partakers in the divine nature, receiving a new identity and character, (ii) heirs of God's promises, inheriting eternal life, and (iii) enabled to experience intimate fellowship with God. What a great love He lavished on us that we should be called His children to enjoy all the privileges duly belonging to the heirs. In addition, when Christ appears, we shall see Him as He is and be like Him with an incorruptible immortal body. What a privilege! Are you a member of God's family? GOD WANTS TO HELP YOU "People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. How gracious He will be when you cry for help! As soon as He hears, He will answer you." - Isaiah 30:19 This Scripture says that the Lord will help us when we call to Him. When difficulties arise, people either go away from God or to God. When there are problems, when there is a catastrophe, such as during the Second World War, the churches are full again and people start to pray. However, it is does not necessarily mean that difficulties will always bring people closer to God. On the contrary, it may well be that a person hardens his or her heart, just like King Ahab did. 'Ahab did more to arouse the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel, than did all the kings of Israel before him' (1 Kings 16:33). Do not forget to consult God People try to find all kinds of solutions to their problems, but God is not seen as one of the options. So-called Christians visit and participate in paranormal conferences. Many Christians - and also the government - forget to consult God. They make plans and take their own decisions. However, God cannot help us unless we first ask Him for advice. If you do not go to the living God with your plans, you are building your house on sand. When a storm comes, your house will be blown away. If you are in such a state, if you are disappointed and keep thinking about what happened, do what the prodigal son did. He decided to go to his father, who welcomed him with open arms. The Lord Jesus wants to bless you. He wants to heal you and take you out of your difficulties. We also ask for the grace to make the coming week better than this one. We can’t change the past, but we want to make the most of what’s left. In the process, the condemned criminal grabbed his mother's ear with his teeth and bit it off, claiming that she failed to correct his misdeeds from his childhood days and had led him to die in shame. Many children always feel very unhappy when they are corrected by their parents. Some children would pull the shoulders, murmuring and grumbling in rebellion to their parents' correction. Such attitudes are evil in the sight of God. Parents are commanded by God to lovingly but firmly correct their children when they are wrong, and train them up in the way of the Lord. It is evil to call for the arrest of your parents because they lovingly and firmly corrected you for your wrong doings. In 1 Samuel chapters 3 and 4, there was the story of a father called Eli who was not firm in correcting his two unruly and sinful sons. God was very unhappy with them. Therefore, both himself and his two sons perished on the same day. *Always give thanks to God for giving you such parents who lovingly and firmly correct you when you are wrong, and train you in the way of the Lord. Also, appreciate, love, respect and obey your parents always. No good action of any man would go unrewarded and when those things are done for the sake of God, the reward would always be in multiple folds and at times eternal. This shows the nature of God as someone who appreciates little things done by men and as someone who faithfully rewards His servants. The text shows the reward system for temple servants, who we can call workers in the Christian setting. Our service to God is never in vain when rendered with a sincere heart. *1. Believers' Reward for Sustenance* a. Aaron and his seed, including the Levites, were commanded not to have any landed property in Israel. It is curious that this commandment was given after the rebellion of Dathan, Korah and Abiram for which the ground splitted open and consumed them. The thought of making material gain through priesthood might have been unspoken motivation that moved them to rebel against priestly office and Aaron. God decided to address the tendency towards this ministerial greed. God demanded consecration from His chosen temple servants and that they should not be chasing material wealth like those who are not called to the service of God. Seeking wealth in an ungodly way and seeking for impactful service to God don't mix. There must be a priority and a choice. *"For they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which drown many unto perdition"* (1Timothy 6:9). b. Those consecrated to the service of God will not be forgotten by God. God said of Aaron and the Levites, *"I am thy part and thine inheritance among the children of Israel"*. What does this mean? While other Israelites inherited lands, farms and houses, God was the inheritance of the Levites and Aaron, the Priest . That meant all that God had belonged to them and they could have access to them anytime the need arose. To the New Testament saints, this is the same as being joint heirs with Christ. All the kingdom blessings are at the disposal of the consecrated Christian. *"Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you"* (Matthew 6:33). It is blindness of the mind to think a life consecrated to God is a call to poverty and penury. Serving God is the greatest security any person can have in this life. All forms of earthly distractions should be minimized for the service of God. *"Having food and raiment , let us therewith be content"*. *Question* Are you trusting God as your ultimate source of provision while faithfully fulfilling the responsibility He has committed to you? *2. Basic Remittance for Servants* a. All the tithes of the children of Israel were to go to the Levites. The Levites were just a tribe in Israel. While the tithe was 10%, it was even more than 8% (1/12), which was the average revenue of a tribe in Israel. Thus, in reality, they gained more than what they could averagely have gotten if they were not serving God. This tithe was also called a wave or heave offering which were to be waved and surrendered to God in recognition of Him as the source of all blessings. God instructed the Levites to offer a tenth of the tithes they received to Him. The Levites were to pay tithes to God too. b. Paying tithes cuts across dispensations. It predated the Law of Moses. Both Abraham and Jacob gave tithes as part of worship (Genesis 14:20, 28:22). The text speaks about tithes during the time of the Law. The prophetic writings also emphasised that dodging tithes is a sin against God and there is a curse attached to it (Malachi 3:10-11). In the New Testament, Jesus was also positive about paying tithes as something that should not be left undone (Matthew 23:23). The New Testament does not put much emphasis on paying tithes not because it is optional, but because God expects more since Jesus gave us all. Those who preach against tithes end up not giving it to God at the end of the day. They end up playing economic smartness with God. Since the Bible commanded that we should give according to the proportion of what we have (1 Corinthians 16:1,2), what percentage do we use better than the 10% which should be the minimum or baseline for believers. Believers are to give abundantly beyond the Old Testament since Jesus gave us His all. The whole lesson is on the principle of giving. Your needs must not give you anxiety to the point of cutting corners with God who desires your love and sincerity. Ministers, Christian workers and all believers must practice faithful stewardship, giving to God willingly and managing His resources honestly since the resources actually belong to God. *Question* Are you faithfully returning to God what belongs to Him and managing the blessings entrusted to you with integrity? *3. Best is Right for the Saviour* a. God commanded the Levites to offer the best and holiest portion of what they received. Their offering was not to be made carelessly or with what was left over after satisfying their personal desires. God deserved their best because He was holy and had graciously provided for them. After setting apart the required portion, they could enjoy the remainder as their reward for service. God gave us His very best. The best salvation, the best forgiveness, the best sacrifice for sin ever possible, His best heaven etc. The God who gives His bests also demands our best as love is reciprocal. He expects wholehearted devotion, excellent service, and faithful obedience from His people. Our giving, worship, time, talents and service should reflect our bests and the greatness of the God we serve. We must honour Him with our best, not merely with what costs us nothing, but sacrificial. *Question* Are you giving God the best of your life, resources, talents and service or only what remains after your personal interests? *Prayer Points* 1.Father, thank you because You are my inheritance. We ask for the grace to make this last day of the week better than any of the others, to do its duties more faithfully, and to live more according to Your pure and holy laws. We thank You for all Your mercies. You’ve blessed us abundantly. The things we feared at the start of the week didn’t happen. The clouds we thought would bring darkness and storms either passed us by or brought only gentle rain that made our fields more fertile. The tasks we thought would be too hard for us have been manageable, and we’ve had the strength we needed as they came. We thank You for all the blessings of the week, which came to us in so many ways—through Your providence, through our friends, through our work. We’ve had food to eat and clothes to wear. We’ve had health and life’s comforts. You haven’t failed us once! This morning, we pray for our neighbors. Some of them are in trouble. Some homes have sickness. May You send Your tender grace and healing to them. Give strength to those who are suffering, so they can endure patiently, and may their suffering bring good to their souls. For surely it is not angels He helps, but Abraham’s descendants. 17. For this reason He had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18. Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted. *TOPIC:* ATONEMENT. *THE MESSAGE:* To atone for means "to cover" or "pardon" and make compensation for sin, thereby removing its guilt. The consequence of the fall was eternal condemnation. But Jesus became fully human in every aspect, except for sin, to represent believers and serve as their High Priest. His death was an atoning sacrifice to cancel sin and satisfy God's wrath (Rom. 3:24-25). His death reconciled us with God. Amazingly, God graciously pardoned our sins through Christ! Sadly, many people reject the Gospel of Christ, which calls sinners to repentance. Some do not even appreciate what God has done in their lives. Are you one of such people? Remember, you were condemned because of sin, but Christ paid for it to set you free. FAKE CONVERSION "They worshiped the Lord, but they also served their own gods in accordance with the customs of the nations from which they had been brought." - 2 Kings 17:32-33 The Lord Jesus Christ teaches us in His Word that conversion is essential to enter heaven. But conversion can also be imitated. I call that a 'fake conversion.' In 2 Kings 16 and 17 we read that God warned the people of Israel that He would surrender them to the enemy if they did not obey His commandments. They did not listen. The king of Assyria captured the Israelites and brought people from all over his kingdom to the land of Israel to live there. They thought differently, lived differently and had a completely different religion than the Israelites. This caused great difficulties; because of this, God became angry with them and sent wild lions among them. The result was that they continued to serve their own gods, but also worshiped the God of Israel. They did not really turn to the Lord but had a fake conversion. Are you truly born again? Today there are many people like this living in our country. The entire Western world is built on the teachings of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Many became religious because the lions were after them. But they have not really repented from their sins. It is a fake conversion and these 'Christians' have absolutely no desire to get to know the living God personally. Someone who is truly converted is shaken up in his conscience. The spiritual eyes of this person are opened, and he will, like the prodigal son, go to God to say: 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against You. I am no longer worthy to be called Your son… Forgive me Father, allow me to come back to You.' This is true conversion and such person is born again. Some brethren got to the extreme of sharing for God's service, but seldom give to the necessity of the saints and ministers. This is hypocrisy. The generosity of Philippians Church teaches us that true giving is not merely about what we possess, but about our willingness to become channels of God’s provision. *1. Communicating Members of the Church* a. The Apostle Paul's affliction was not sickness, disease or attack of Satan. Rather, it was a kind of sufferings or persecutions, including imprisonment, that befell him in the course of preaching the gospel. He even encouraged and challenged believers to be partakers of this kind of afflictions of the gospel. *"Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God"* (2 Timothy 1:8). Paul the apostle commended the Philippians because they *“communicated with my affliction”* through their giving. They did not merely sympathize with the suffering of the minister; they participated in meeting his needs. Their giving demonstrated fellowship, partnership and concern for the advancement of the Gospel. b. As 1 Timothy 6:18 says, believers should be *“rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate.”* They are expected to be natural, passionate and addicted givers. The benefits of giving are immeasurable. The givers are blessed in multiple folds, the recipients will have their needs met and will be refreshed, while God Himself is glorified that the needs of His children are being met. *Question* Am I merely observing the needs of God’s workers or am I actively communicating with them through sacrificial giving? *2. Continuous Ministrations and Care* The Philippians did not give only once. It was their way of life. Paul the apostle testified that *“even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.”* Occasionally, charity results in occasional divine blessings. Their generosity was continuous and dependable. Addicted givers do not wait for repeated appeals before responding; they cultivate a consistent heart of generosity. Their giving becomes a ministry of care through which the needs of God’s servants and the work of God are continually supported. b. Paul the apostle told Titus to affirm constantly to his congregation that believers should have the heart and habit of maintaining good works. Many often start with the habits of cheerfully, sharing with others, but slow down along the way. It must be deliberately maintained (Titus 3:8). *Question* Is my generosity occasional and convenient or is giving a consistent expression of my Christian commitment? *3. Contented Ministers of Christ* a. Apostle Paul clarified that he was not primarily seeking their gifts, but *“fruit that may abound to your account.”* He was not a covetous person, but had more delight in their spiritual fruitfulness. He had earlier told them that he had the grace of contentment and self discipline. *"For I have learnt in whatever state I am therewith to be content"*. Notwithstanding, he still expressed deep appreciation for their giving and sharing. He declared, *“I have all, and abound,”* describing their gifts as *“an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.”* God therefore, sees sincere giving not simply as a financial transaction, but as worship and a sacrifice that pleases Him. b. True ministers of God do not turn to predators milking the sheep for their benefits and personal enrichment. Like Apostle Paul, they are to be contented with what they have and rely on God for provision whenever they lack anything. Doing the work of God is not a business venture that yields money. He even encouraged and challenged believers to be partakers of this kind of afflictions of the gospel. *"Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God"* (2 Timothy 1:8). Paul the apostle commended the Philippians because they *“communicated with my affliction”* through their giving. They did not merely sympathize with the suffering of the minister; they participated in meeting his needs. Their giving demonstrated fellowship, partnership and concern for the advancement of the Gospel. b. As 1 Timothy 6:18 says, believers should be *“rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate.”* They are expected to be natural, passionate and addicted givers. The benefits of giving are immeasurable. The givers are blessed in multiple folds, the recipients will have their needs met and will be refreshed, while God Himself is glorified that the needs of His children are being met. *Question* Am I merely observing the needs of God’s workers or am I actively communicating with them through sacrificial giving? *2. Continuous Ministrations and Care* The Philippians did not give only once. It was their way of life. Paul the apostle testified that *“even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.”* Occasionally, charity results in occasional divine blessings. Their generosity was continuous and dependable. Addicted givers do not wait for repeated appeals before responding; they cultivate a consistent heart of generosity. Their giving becomes a ministry of care through which the needs of God’s servants and the work of God are continually supported. b. Paul the apostle told Titus to affirm constantly to his congregation that believers should have the heart and habit of maintaining good works. Many often start with the habits of cheerfully, sharing with others, but slow down along the way. It must be deliberately maintained (Titus 3:8). *Question* Is my generosity occasional and convenient or is giving a consistent expression of my Christian commitment? *3. Contented Ministers of Christ* a. Apostle Paul clarified that he was not primarily seeking their gifts, but *“fruit that may abound to your account.”* He was not a covetous person, but had more delight in their spiritual fruitfulness. He had earlier told them that he had the grace of contentment and self discipline. *"For I have learnt in whatever state I am therewith to be content"*. Notwithstanding, he still expressed deep appreciation for their giving and sharing. He declared, *“I have all, and abound,”* describing their gifts as *“an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.”* God therefore, sees sincere giving not simply as a financial transaction, but as worship and a sacrifice that pleases Him. b. True ministers of God do not turn to predators milking the sheep for their benefits and personal enrichment. Like Apostle Paul, they are to be contented with what they have and rely on God for provision whenever they lack anything. The apostle initiated this process of sacrificial giving, which left neither side impoverished.* *The Philippians received uncommon apostolic commendation and benediction that should spur today's believers to be liberal in supporting the Church for the propagation of the gospel of Christ. Doing the work of God is not a business venture that yields money. It can only be sustained when we embrace the spirit of giving faithfully and cheerfully.* *With mounting pressure on the Church to reach more unsaved mankind before the return of the Son of God, there should be no hesitation on the part of members of the Body of Christ to give willingly for the release of more missionaries into the field. We also have to pray to be part of the mammoth throng moving into the harvest space with our family members, time and talents. We must not forsake our leaders, especially in their hour of need. We are saved by grace through faith, not something earned through works or righteous deeds, leaving no room for boasting. God mercifully initiated our salvation through the washing of regeneration and renewal by Holy Spirit. This results in justification and the hope of eternal life. "MARITAL HAPPINESS" ‘Blessed (happy, to be envied…) are the poor in spirit (the humble, who rate themselves insignificant)…’ Matthew 5:3 AMP WHEN THE rosy glow diminishes and reality sets in, what makes some marriages happy while others slide into misery? Luck? Good genes? Hanging tough? Hardly! Marital happiness that transcends changing circumstances is built on the qualities Jesus taught. Let’s look at them: 1) Happy are the humble. ‘Blessed (happy…) are the poor in spirit (the humble, who rate themselves insignificant).’ Pride that’s self-promoting and always demanding its rights brings misery, while humility, self-denial and considering your mate’s needs brings happiness. 2) Happy are the meek: the gentle, patient and kind. Handling your spouse’s struggles with kindness, sensitivity and long-suffering is an expression of love that brings healing into the painful chapters of life and marriage. 3) Happy are the merciful. Sooner or later we’ll inflict injury on one another. Hurt, disappointment and anger will rise up, followed by a desire to make them pay. But just as revenge begets revenge, mercy begets mercy. Mercy isn’t ‘letting them get away with it.’ Treating your spouse mercifully is reciprocal. It creates an atmosphere, where, when you fail, you ‘shall obtain mercy.’ Mercy ends disputes when nothing else works! 4) Happy are the peacemakers. The need to be ‘right’ and ‘win’ only intensifies conflict. In marriage, when one ‘wins,’ both lose! Giving up personal victory to be a peacemaker is ultimate victory. You’d be eternally lost if Jesus hadn’t willingly surrendered His rights for your wrongs. The ring is not the sole symbol of Christian marriage, but the cross superimposed on the ring. [07/10, 7:20 pm] Pastor Attah: *MEDITATIONS ON DAILY ⓂANNA* THURSDAY, 8TH OCTOBER, 2026. *A SCIENTIFIC PROOF OF JESUS AS CREATOR* *TEXT:* JOHN 9:1-7. 1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. 4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. 6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, 7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. *Timeless Truth:*_"All things were made by him (Christ); and without him was not any thing made that was made."_ (John 1:3). *INTRODUCTION* One of the distinguishing features of a scientific result is that it must be repeatable. This is one of the greatest points against the theory of Evolution that teaches that man evolved from monkeys. Millions of years have passed after creation and nobody has been able to see a monkey evolving into a man. It has never been repeated and therefore, the theory is not yet proved as scientific. The Scriptures revealed that man was created from the dust of the earth and that Jesus is the Creator revealed in Genesis (John 1:3, Colossians 1:15,16). These two assertions were repeated by Jesus showing that what the Scriptures said about Jesus' creative credentials have been repeated by Jesus, thus, scientifically confirming Him as the Creator and as the Person who created man from the dust. It shows clearly that whatever needs supernatural recreation including body organs, human spirit, human soul, etc, is possible in this life if we bring it to Christ. *1. Reasons for Creation Weaknesses* a. *"Who did sin?"*. The disciples correctly knew that sicknesses, infirmities, death deformities, evil nature and characters, all originated from the fall of Adam as consequences of sin. *"The wages of sin is death"*. The curses on Adam and creations were as a result of sin. It is still true today that many bitter and evil experiences we pass through are as a result of the sins of our fathers, including forefathers. For example, there are covenants and curses that our fathers have incurred that are limiting their children who may not even be aware of what transpired before they were born. However, Jesus said that in this specific case, *"neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents"*. The creative deformity of blindness of this man was not as a result of the specific sins of the parents or the man though in general terms, it was as a result of the fall of man. b. The answer of Jesus teaches the danger of generalisation and presumption on causes of problems that people may have. While some may be the fault of people having the problem, at times, it is never their fault. Jesus gave the blind man and his parents a clean bill on the cause of the deformity of the man. This is a reason for human love and compassion in dealing with human problems and challenges. Even when sin and ignorance are involved, the heart should show compassion. The answer of Jesus shows that the Trinity has moved on from the stupidity of man that caused man to fall and is concentrating on giving solutions. Thus, Jesus has been given to man to solve all the sin problems and consequences. Move on from blaming others, nursing hatred and pointing accusing fingers and start working on solutions. This is how to be like God. *Question* Do I always interpret human limitations and problems to be as a result of sin or rather leave the cause to God and give needed helping hand? *2. Revelation of Christ in the World* a. Jesus declared,*“I am the light of the world”*. He is not one or part of the light, but the light. In the creative work, He is the One who created light and said, *"Let there be light and there was light"*. Without Him there was no light. John 1:9 reveals that He *"was the true Light, that lighteth every man that cometh into the world"*. This shows the connection between life and light and as Jesus the Giver of both. He demonstrated this by giving life to the dead eyes. Light reveals, dispels darkness and makes growth possible. Think of a world without Christ. It will be a world without the life of God, without the knowledge of the truth and without an example of how to practically, live out righteousness. Christ's presence brings life illumination where darkness and death exists. b. Christians derive their lights from Christ and must be little Christs showing forth the light of God that is bright enough for the world to see the difference. Jesus said, *"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."* *Question* Is the light of Christ clearly manifested enough through your life? *3. Repetition of Creative Work* When Jesus can merely *"speak the word only"* and the blind would be healed, why did He go through the process of using clay to heal him? It was to announce to the Jews and the world at large, that the Person who created man in the Garden of Eden was among them physically and He is visiting the world again to redeem the man who was lost at the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:7). It was also to announce to the world of skeptical scientists that will later come that His creative claims can be scientifically, proved or verified. It shows that whatever God has ever created or done before can be repeated by Christ if need be. He can create more holy angels if need be. He can recreate any dead organs of the body. He can recreate the human perverted soul and make him a new creature. *"If any man is in Christ, he is a new creature"*. What can take man days and weeks and years, with all his technological advancements, will take Jesus just a moment of time. As friends of Jesus, one great virtue you must have is patience. In our text, the Psalmist said *"I waited patiently for the LORD;..."* Unlike the Psalmist, many friends of Jesus rush their daily Bible reading exercise, and they rush their prayer too. The result is that they gained nothing. It is a mark of respect to God to be patient when you are before Him reading your Bible, praying, or waiting to receive the answer to your prayer. *What are the rewards of patience? God always give the best to the patient child. Joseph waited for God's time to be promoted, and he got the best. "HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT LEADER" ‘They nominated…Barsabbas…and Matthias.’ Acts 1:23 NLT WHEN Judas committed suicide, the team of apostles was one man short. So what did they do? ‘They nominated two men…Barsabbas…and Matthias.’ To decide which one was called to take the place of Judas, they used a method known as ‘casting lots.’ It was a system used in biblical times when only a few select people could actually speak with God or hear from Him personally. As a result, Matthias was chosen. You say, ‘But I’ve never heard of Matthias.’ And nobody else has either! He is not mentioned again in Scripture. But Barsabbas, the man who didn’t get the vote, is referred to as one of the leaders who steered the church through some treacherous waters of doctrinal error (Acts 15:22-23). There are two important lessons for us in this story: 1) You can know God but you will never be able to figure Him out. So stop trying. You can’t reduce Him to a formula and say, ‘This is the way He always does it.’ Casting lots was a system God may have honoured in the past, but when the apostles tried it they didn’t get the results they hoped for. 2) God will speak to you if you are willing to listen. Before leaving them, Jesus had told His disciples that the indwelling Holy Spirit would guide them. ‘All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, “The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me”’ (John 16:15 NLT). However, He operates a shared leadership method where He uses different means to appoint and install leaders and rulers as His representative in all strata of life. They are accountable to God first and to the people second. Often many started leadership in a humble way, but as time progressed, pride, the deceptions of authority, power and people brought out the beastiality and base nature in them, thereby turning them into wicked rulers. Rulers and leaders should be watchful against the common evil tendencies of rulers because the day of accountability will definitely come in this life and in the world to come. *1. Danger of Pride after Exaltation* a. God pronounced the judgment of King Jeroboam, that took over from Solomon, that he would be destroyed and his family line will be obliterated because of the idol worship he introduced to Israel (1 Kings 14:9). Years after the death of Jeroboam, Baasha conspired against the son of Jeroboam, killed him and took over the throne (1 Kings 15:27). It is easy to conclude that Baasha took the throne through his smartness, bravery and power. However, God said NO. *"Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the dust and made thee Prince over my people Israel..."*. Baasha missed out on this revelation and decided *" to walk in the way of Jeroboam, and make my people to sin, to provoke me to anger"*. b. Pride and selfwill are the besetting sins of leaders and rulers. When the conviction that God is the author of exaltation is lost or not there, it is easy for leaders to be deceived by Satan and position and stoop down to pride and irresponsibility. Position without humility can produce pride, rebellion and abuse of authority. Every elevation is an opportunity to serve God and people, not an excuse for self-glorification. Also put into mind that God put you there and you are accountable to Him and also watch against pride. The Person who exalts has the power to abase. *"God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble"* (James 4:6). *Question* Has your elevation made you more humble and obedient to God, or more proud and self-reliant? *2. Damnation of Posterity of Evildoers* It is expected that the Owner of the world and the Person who gave the appointment will punish evil and reward good doing at His own time. It is self deception to think that leadership opportunity is also an opportunity to lead wrongly, damn the consequences and escape them . God told Baasha. *"Behold I will take away the posterity of Baasha, and the posterity of his house"*. His evil conduct affected not only himself, but also his posterity. Sinful leadership can leave destructive consequences for generations. b. God pronounced different levels of judgments for erring and proud leaders depending on their evils. Therefore, those entrusted with authority must fear God and consider the spiritual legacy they are creating. The world is as good as their rulers. The same with communities, families and even churches. God puts a lot of premium on leadership and therefore, they must be responsible. *Question* What kind of spiritual legacy are your present choices creating for those who will come after you? *3. Dependable Prophet Against Evils* God sent His Word through the prophet Jehu to expose Baasha’s evil and announce His judgment. Jehu, as God's representative or appointed ruler in his own calling, was faithful to God. He did not fear the reaction of the powers that be. He was not sold out and neither did he compromise. He spoke the truth exactly as God has inspired him without any cloak of covetousness. He is an example of responsible leadership. If ministers are faithful to the Word of God, their church members who are also rulers and leaders in their own world will be assisted to do the right. But when they compromise, it has a viral effect on all, including the ministers themselves. Divine truth is God’s instrument for confronting wickedness, correcting rulers and calling people to repentance. *Question* Do you accept God’s Word when it confronts your wrongdoing or do you resist the messenger who brings it? Even though he came to power through a coup that saw him kill his predecessor, it was God's providence that permitted him to stay on. Yet he could not learn from history that "It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness" (Proverbs 16:12). He was not only wicked, but like Jeroboam, he made Israel to sin and to provoke the Holy One to anger with their sins.* *God was particularly pained by the fact that He exalted Baasha "out of the dust". He was most unworthy to be king in Israel and therefore should have been humbled by the significant office he was privileged to occupy. Instead, he became full of himself and waxed gross in wickedness. When the wicked mount the throne, the people are doomed. The throne of unrighteousness can only succeed in multiplying unrighteousness in the land. For this abuse, the Lord passed a fearful judgment upon Baasha and his posterity (verses 3 and 4).* *As you reflect on the reign and ruin of Baasha this day, consider also how the Lord has elevated you to some position of influence. How much value have you added? You should glorify Him with the privileges and opportunities given to you. You can avoid ending disastrously like Baasha if you will prayerfully resolve to walk only in the path of righteousness and serve humbly. Being a peacemaker means forgiving, solving problems, and showing love, even when it is hard to do so. It is about sharing the peace that Jesus gives us with others. At school, Loveth and Sarah were arguing over a little misunderstanding, and some students made things worse by encouraging them to keep fighting, but Victoria, who loved Jesus, saw what was happening and knew she had to help. She talked to both girls, helping them understand each other and reminding them that Jesus wants them to be friends. After the intervention, Loveth and Sarah made up, and peace returned to the class. *Like Victoria, we should all be peacemakers helping others find peace and love, just like Jesus did for us. "POST-TRAUMATIC GROWTH (3)" ‘…My grace is sufficient for you…’ 2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV. ONE OF the classic stories of adversity in the Bible is about Joseph. At the beginning of his life he is the favourite son, envied by his brothers, with dreams of being someone everybody bows down to. Then he’s kidnapped by his brothers and ends up serving as a slave in Potiphar’s house. He loses his home, his culture, his security and his status as favourite son. What does Joseph have left? He is in a strange bed, in a strange house, in a strange land, with no friends, no prospects, and no explanation. But he has one gift—one that makes all the difference. ‘The Lord was with Joseph…’ (Genesis 39:2 NIV). What happens when you lose everything but God, then find out that God is enough? You experience His presence in a way you never did before! Paul writes: ‘…Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death…No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us’ (Romans 8:35-37 NLT). God wasn’t at work producing the circumstances Joseph wanted; He was at work in bad circumstances producing the Joseph that God wanted. This is beyond natural, filial, emotional or friendly love. It is the outworking of the Holy Spirit in the heart of believers. Nobody can fully manifest it without salvation and sanctification of the heart. It is the barometer that should be used to measure true spirituality. It is the greatest of all virtues (1 Corinthians 13:13). Lest any be deceived or deceive himself, Paul the apostle, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit listed some of the expressions of love without which the love is fake. There are different levels. It gives each sincere believer an opportunity to check up how loving he is and areas to deepen in his love life. The text speaks for itself. *1. Love with Sincerity* *"Let love be without dissimulation"*. True love is void of hypocritical expressions meant to deceive. *2. Love Separates* He, consciously, separates from every evil action or word that will displease God or harm or hurt others physically, psychologically, emotionally and otherwise. *"Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good"*. *3. Love has Sympathy* He has a tender heart that sympathizes sincerely with people who need it. *"Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love"*. *4. Love Salutes* He salutes others in areas where others are better without pride. He is low enough to see others and prefers them as better than him. *"In honour preferring one another"*. He is not envious or engages in carnal rivalry with anyone. *5. Love is not Slothful* Many claim love for God. But true love for God is expressed in spiritual, fervent zeal for the service of God. *"Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord"*. *6. Love Sparkles* True love still glows and is cheerful in the midst of challenges. He is not sad at the blessings or promotion of others. He is not moody. He rejoices not because he does not have standards and expectations, but because he is full of faith and hope in God for better things when things go wrong. *"Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer"*. *7. Love Shares* He willingly shares good things he has with those who need it. This includes experiences, knowledge and physical things. He does this without compulsion. *Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality"*. *9. Love is Sociable* He is friendly and enjoys the company of other people without bearing grudge or harbouring bitterness or vengeful spirit. He graciously forgives with ease. *"Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not"*. *"Recompense to NO man evil for evil"*. He is a courageous and addicted peace maker. He is not quarrelsome. *"If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord"*. He is not a man of fire for fire, but a gracious and sweet personality that people like to move with. *"Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head"*. The coals of fire will melt the heart of the adversary to repentance and if he refuses to repent, the judgment of God will follow. *"Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good"*. *10. Love is Selfless* He has a sanctified disposition and rejoices at what makes other people happy and he is sorrowful at what makes others sorrowful. He thinks of others welfare and happiness more than that of himself like Jesus. He is a man with empathy. *"Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep"*. He is simple and humble and is always united with the brethren in things that glorify God. *"Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits"*. His honesty and transparency are clearly visible to others. *"Provide things honest in the sight of all men"*. Just as you find out what’s inside a tube of toothpaste when it gets squeezed, adversity reveals what you’re made of. Sometimes we say, ‘I could never go through what that person went through. I would die.’ Then you go through it, and guess what? Your heart keeps beating. Your world goes on. You don’t know what you’re capable of until you have to cope. Wise people have always understood the connection between suffering and growth. Meng Tzu, the Chinese sage, said, ‘When heaven is about to confer a great responsibility on any man it will place obstacles in the path of his deeds so as to stimulate his mind, harden his nature, and improve wherever he is incompetent.’ God could have let Abraham stay in the comfort of Ur, and Moses in the splendour of Pharaoh’s courts. He could have kept Daniel out of the lions’ den, Nehemiah out of captivity, Jonah out of the whale, John the Baptist away from Herod, Esther from being threatened, Jeremiah from being rejected, and Paul from being shipwrecked. But He didn’t. In fact, God used each of these trials to bring them closer to Himself—to produce perseverance, character and hope. This is true in the world. It is a satanic deception to think that God is so liberal and desperate that He admits every Tom Dick and Harry for His purpose. Before Abraham could be the Father of faith with generational blessings, he passed through protracted uncommon tests and trial of faith. Every person who will be used of God or receive sustained uncommon blessings from God must rise up to live a life that is transparent and sanctified because grace does not replace personal responsibility. *1.Open Heavens for Beloved Children* a. Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, humbled and submitted Himself to water baptism though He was God in human flesh. He gave a strong example that no matter how high we may be, submission to the Word and will of God must be total. Nobody is above the Word of God except the deceived, proud and rebellious. *"Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan"*. b. Humble obedience and submission to the Word and will of God always attract divine blessings. In the case of Jesus, He experienced open heavens in His ministry and gifts of the Holy Spirit. *"He saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him"*. Experiencing open heavens in prayer, gifts and blessings of God cum divine approval and success in life and ministry is conditioned on diligent and humble obedience to His Word and will without being selective. The humble and obedient are always well beloved of God. *"Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased"*. *Question* Are you fully obedient to His Word or are you cheating yourself by being selective? *2. Obedience and Holiness of Baptized Christians* a. Jesus was not led to fast for 40 days and night so as to receive power for miracles. The Holy Spirit had descended on Him like a dove after His water baptism. *"And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him"*. Moses did not fast to receive the power of God. Before he was made to fast for 40 days on mount Sinai God had used him to perform great miracles in Egypt. The same with Elijah who fasted for forty days. Elijah only fasted for forty days towards the end of his ministry after he had commanded fire from heaven and performed many miracles. In fact, Moses and Elijah fasted for 40 days without planning for it. The question is, why was Jesus led to the wilderness? *"And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts"*. To be in a lonely and hidden place is a great temptation for someone with global ministry awaiting Him. For someone with the mighty power of God to be tested to fall down and show He has power is very tempting. For someone who was without food for forty days and being tempted on food matters is hard. So Jesus faced tests on pride of life, lust of the flesh and lust of the eyes. b. At times we are put in a very difficult environment and situation in life to be tested without our knowledge. It is the victorious that would be approved of God for impactful ministry. In the midst of the test, no matter how grievous, God would always give the needed grace to overcome if we are determined to. In the case of Jesus, the ministering of angels was an encouragement for Him to move on. *"And the angels ministered unto him"*. Anybody who falls in the day of tests, trials and temptations has himself to blame for not making use of the grace of God available. *"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it"* (1 Corinthians 10:13). *Question* Are you determined to pass any test and overcome any temptation that may come your way? *3. Overcoming Hindrances to be Best in Your Calling* John the Baptist had been a forerunner of Jesus and he made the work easier for Christ. In fact, some of the disciples of Jesus followed Him because of the testimony of John the Baptist concerning Jesus. But now John the Baptist was put in prison. There are times our obedience to God is threatened by loss of loved ones, unexpected calamity, distracting challenges, disgraceful failures among others. Jesus did not allow that to hinder Him from what God sent Him to do. Jesus, rather than going into hiding because of the hostile environment decided to relocate and still continue with His God- given ministry. *"Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God"*. *Question* What can you learn from Jesus commitment to God's purpose for His life? *Prayer Points* 1.Father, I have resolved to do away with selective obedience for full obedience. The idol-worshipping people of Canaan and their wicked kings were wiped away because they rejected God (Deuteronomy 2:21). Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, ate grass like an animal for seven years (Daniel 4:33), the children who mocked Elisha, the prophet of God, were devoured by bears (2 Kings 2:24). Herod was eaten up of worms (Acts 12:23). God hates and punishes sin. His righteous nature remains the same today. Even though God does not delight in iniquity, yet, God pardons iniquity and He delights in showing mercy. Our Bible passage refers to Him as the only One who pardons iniquity, who passes by the transgression of His heritage, who retains not His anger but delights in mercy and have compassion upon us. *You must repent from your bad ways and ask God for forgiveness.
