    Nothing Is Wasted

    By Sergey Gruzdev

    August 5th, 2026

My wife and I are teachers here in Russia, and we tried to raise our children in the best traditions of intelligent families. Our children saw no evil, and we taught them only good. We well remember the first time our daughter was allowed to go for a walk on her own, and how she came back crying. She cried for 15 minutes before we managed to calm her down because one of her girlfriends stuck her tongue out at her!

During this time, we learned about 3ABN Russia’s Bible study courses and my wife became interested. She studied them and then told me she wanted to be baptized. I was a bit worried, but she invited me to the baptism ceremony so that I could see everything with my own eyes.

I had been watching my wife’s transformation for a long time but now I went to her church and met the pastor. He answered all my questions intelligently, according to biblical teachings, so I agreed to her baptism. The minister prayed for me and gave a sheet of the church’s beliefs and doctrines, and again I saw that it was all written in accordance with the Bible. Who am I to disagree with God? I thought, so I asked to be baptized, too. And that is how, in one day, my wife and I became spiritually close. In fact, we decided to both be baptized the same day!

At the time, I was a hiking and mountain tourism instructor and loved my job very much. But after my baptism, when I began to observe all the commandments of God, my friends said, “You need to forget about tourism.”

That worried me for a while, because at the time I did not yet know that God finds use for each of our gifts, abilities, and talents. Now, I’m convinced that our abilities develop and become even more vivid when we use them for the Lord!

As a result of my thoughts and prayers, we decided to form a Pathfinder Club for young people. The children from church and I made many hiking trips—including some into the mountains. They learned how to survive in wilderness conditions, and they fell in love with God’s great outdoors. A hike began to mean more than physical exercise—it meant fresh air, friendship development, and teamwork. There were bonfires, fun, and laughter. And we studied nature, geography, grass, water, stones, and stars.

Before and during our hikes we pray that the Lord will bless us. We are constantly in His presence and under His protection and our minds are clear of all unnecessary things. There are spiritual moments when we study the Word of God, share our experiences with God, and pray for each other and for the solution of our problems. When a situation comes up and we don’t know what to do, we ask God for help.

Once such case came up when our route was not shown on the map. We’d covered many kilometers and were very tired but still a long way from our campground. And we prayed and asked for a shorter way, and soon we saw a faint path overgrown with grass in the forest and decided to follow it. God shortened our trek by four kilometers that day, and in addition it ran on flat terrain!

When we arrived, a noisy group of about 50 drunken young people were nearby, and their speech was abundantly seasoned with obscene expressions, which, of course, we didn’t want to hear. Since it was already 9:00 p.m., it was too late to head to another campground, so we turned to the Lord, that He would change this unpleasant situation. Right then, our neighbors decided to leave for another campground eight kilometers away! There was no doubt that the Lord had answered our prayer.

There are habits we should develop, and others that lead to degradation. As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 6:12, “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful.” We have to choose what is useful. I do not regret that I entered into a covenant with God, and He has found a use for all my gifts and given me more than I ever had before!

  • Cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon Dr. Orlando López de Victoria has drawn attention for the way he integrates his Christian faith with his work in the operating room.
With nearly 30 years of experience, Dr. López de Victoria has shared that before every surgery, he pauses to pray and invites Jesus to guide him as he begins each procedure.
For him, medicine is more than technical skill alone. He believes that every operation requires careful preparation, scientific knowledge, precision, teamwork, and humility before God. While recognizing the importance of medical training and experience, he says he also entrusts each patient and procedure to the Lord in prayer.
His testimony has encouraged many Christians who view their professions as opportunities to serve God faithfully while using the gifts and abilities He has given them.
Whether in medicine, education, business, or any other field, believers are called to work with excellence while depending on God's wisdom and strength.
    Colossians 3:23 says:
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."
    James 1:5 says:
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."
May God continue to bless and guide healthcare professionals around the world, granting them wisdom, compassion, and strength as they care for those entrusted to them.

In 1869, construction began on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City.Soon after work commenced , chief engineers Washington Roebling became very ill .His wife , Emily pitched in to help .She studied his plans , revised specifications. ,and gave instructions to his assistants .Emily assisted her husband in any way she could and when the bridge opened in 1883 , she rode in the first carriage across it .He husband praised her “remarkable talent “and “her thourough knowledge of the work and plans .”. Such teamwork is beautiful and the secret to the most meaningful work of our lives .Solomon explained the basis of teamwork in Ecclesiastes :”Two are better than one , because they have a good reward for their labour :if either of them falls down , one can help the other up “(4:9-10)And Paul said we should view teamwork as a key to the work of the church :”There are many part , but one body “(1Corinthians 12:20)He further explained that there should be “no division in the body “(v25)as everyone served together , caring for each other . • Ecclesiastes may seem like little more than a string of musings from an embittered sage. Any coherent message we do find is steeped in futility. Chapter 4 is typical as the philosopher surveys “toil and all achievement” (v. 4) through a bleak, earthbound lens. “There was a man all alone,” he says. “There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth” (v. 8). When we live for ourselves, contentment eludes us. The writer provides hope, however: “Two are better than one” (v. 9), and “a cord of three strands is not quickly broken” (v. 12). Left to ourselves, our human pursuits are truly in vain. God intended for us to live in community, interdependent on each other. Most of all, He wants us to live with Him at the center of our lives (see 12:1, 13-14). In Him, toil becomes teamwork as He helps us accomplish what He wants us to do.

  • What Is Killing Many Christian Businesses Today?

Many Christian entrepreneurs are hardworking, prayerful, and passionate about serving God through business.
Yet, many businesses struggle, stagnate, or eventually fail; not because God has abandoned them, but because they are unknowingly making costly mistakes.

Here are six common business killers:
    1. Spiritualizing Instead of Systematizing
Prayer is powerful, but business growth also requires systems, strategy, planning, and execution.
    2. Invisibility Syndrome
You can't help people who don't know you exist. Many great businesses remain hidden because they fail to market themselves consistently.
    3. One-Man-Show Syndrome
Trying to do everything alone eventually creates a bottleneck. Growth requires delegation and teamwork.
    4. Leverage Phobia
Many entrepreneurs avoid investing in tools, technology, mentorship, partnerships, or skilled people that could accelerate growth.
    5. Despising Small Things Syndrome
Every successful business starts somewhere. Many quit before their seeds have time to grow.
    6. Ignoring the God-Factor
Business is more than profit. Integrity, wisdom, stewardship, obedience, and divine guidance remain critical ingredients for lasting success.

    The Bottom Line
Successful Christian entrepreneurs understand that it is not faith or strategy; it is faith and strategy.
Pray as though everything depends on God. Work as though God is depending on your stewardship.
Which of these do you think is the biggest challenge facing Christian entrepreneurs today?
