• How Did the Lord Control His Thoughts as a Man?
The Lord said, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness" (Matt 6:33), thus defining for us the goal He was striving for, the same intent and purpose with which He began His preaching: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matt 3:2). He brought the kingdom, announcing that it had drawn near to us, without us drawing near to it; because it is the transcendent heavenly gift. He lived for the kingdom of God, and the kingdom was in His heart. Therefore He said, "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30), and also, "the Father who dwells in Me does the works" (John 14:10). Thus He controlled His thoughts with the single goal about which He told Martha, "But one thing is needed" (Luke 10:42). If goals multiply, a person loses the ability to control their thoughts, especially if these goals are inconsistent and disconnected, scattered and contradictory, not united by a single purpose, but arranged by passions, sins, virtues, concerns, and fears.
