THE “EXISTENTIAL THREAT” TO OUR PLANET:
It’s not every day that one gets the opportunity to be up close and personal with an active volcano. On our recent 50th anniversary trip to Hawaii, Carol and I, along with our lifelong friends from Benton, Arkansas, Steve & Tammy Lambert, were excited to do just that. Kilauea has been in periodic eruption since late 2024, and was building up to its 47th eruption as we stood on the rim of the massive Halema’u crater. Even though we could see gas and steam rising from the north and south vents, we missed the iconic fountain eruption by less than 48 hours. The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory is reporting that magma is currently being reinflated, building toward eruption #48 at any moment now.
Kilauea is one of 50 volcanoes worldwide currently classified as in intermittent or continuous eruption, altogether spewing hundreds of cubic meters of lava per second. It is part of the larger Pacific “Ring of Fire,” which contains over 450 of the world’s active and dormant volcanoes. Because of intense tectonic plate collision and subduction in the region, it is a massive hotspot for geological activity and is responsible for about 90% of all earthquakes on our planet, including the 6.0 tremor that occurred a few miles south of where we were staying just days after leaving Kailua-Kona on the Big Island.
In writing the third volume of my book series, “Dismantling Doctrines of Demons: Discovering the Deliverance,” I discuss the extent volcanic activity might have on climate change and global warming apart from fossil fuel emissions, especially as massive global geological events ramp up during the coming Tribulation Period on earth. The disobedience of Adam & Eve in the Garden didn’t just produce the curse on mankind; the “ground” was also cursed (Genesis 3:17), and Paul affirms, “creation was subjected to futility…in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its slavery to corruption…for we know the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.” (Romans 8:19-22).
The enormous heat from the earth’s core, the churning of magma in our planet’s mantle, pushing through the layers of crust, and the constant shifting of tectonic plates build massive amounts of pressure that eventually discharge in earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, sending heated, toxic gases miles into the stratosphere. Paul sees this process as similar to a woman in labor. The pangs of childbirth become more frequent, intense, and of longer duration as the birth of a child becomes imminent. As Scripture declares, eventually, this planetary labor will reach a climactic implosion that will annihilate Earth and the entire universe (the real “existential threat”), resulting in God creating “a new heaven and a new earth” (Revelation 21:1), which will be eternal.
These Biblical thoughts passed through my mind as I stood on the rim of the Kilauea caldera. Processes are in motion that are Biblically determined. It will be the most horrific time for our planet and mankind as the trumpet, seal, and bowl judgments of the Tribulation are poured forth upon the unbelieving people of the world who reject God. Only a personal faith commitment of your life to Jesus Christ as Savior & Lord will keep you from this unprecedented time of future human history. You must be Rapture-ready!
