• STANDING FIRM IN THE BATTLE: The Power of Long-Suffering and Endurance

    July 15,2026

Every battle demands endurance. Have you ever watched two boxers in the ring and seen one avoid every single punch? Have you ever watched wrestlers and found one who never experiences defeat or resistance? In warfare, have you ever heard of an army that fights without casualties? The answer is no.

As long as there is a battle, there will be opposition. Victory is not determined merely by avoiding blows, hiding from the enemy, or running from hardship. While wisdom and strategy are essential, the outcome often belongs to the one who can endure the pressure, rise after every blow, fight skillfully, and wisely use the resources available. Battles are won by those who refuse to give up.

The Christian life is no different. One of the fruits of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22–23 is long-suffering (patience). Sadly, many believers have adopted the mentality of a fast-food generation. They want immediate answers, instant miracles, and quick breakthroughs. Few are willing to wait on God or endure the process through which He develops faith and character.

The Scriptures repeatedly teach that some trials, afflictions, and spiritual battles require perseverance. James reminds us that "the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing" (James 1:2–4). Likewise, Hebrews 10:36 declares, "You have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise."

Jesus illustrated this truth in Matthew 7:24–25. The house built upon the rock was not exempt from storms. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds beat against it. Yet it remained standing because its foundation was secure. The strength of the house was not the absence of storms but the firmness of its foundation.

If you expect to live without opposition, disappointment, or difficult seasons, you will only become frustrated. Challenges are part of life in this fallen world. What you need is long-suffering—the God-given ability to remain steadfast under pressure. It is more than suffering; it is the spiritual stamina to keep trusting God even when the answer seems delayed.

Long-suffering says, "Even if God has not yet intervened, I will remain faithful because I know He is still working." God's delays are never His denials. He is always on time, accomplishing His perfect purpose in the lives of those who trust Him.

Therefore, do not lose heart. Stand firm. Continue praying. Continue believing. Continue obeying God. Your endurance is not in vain, for the Lord is faithful.

I pray for you today: May the Lord answer you speedily according to His perfect will. May He strengthen your heart to endure every trial. May you never be discouraged, but remain confident in His unfailing promises. As it is written, "Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever" (Psalm 125:1).

    You are blessed.

  • **The Train of Life: A Story About Fact, Faith, and Feelings**

There was once a young man named Alex who lived in a bustling town at the foot of the mountains. One foggy morning, he stood on the platform waiting for the Mountain Express—the only train that could take him over the peaks to the fertile valley on the other side where his family waited.

The station master, an old pastor named Reverend Thomas, noticed Alex pacing nervously. “First time crossing the mountains, son?” he asked kindly.

Alex nodded. “My father is very ill. I need to get to him. But this fog… I can barely see the tracks. What if the train goes off the edge?”

Reverend Thomas smiled and motioned for Alex to sit on a bench with him. “Let me tell you how this train actually runs. There are three things that will determine whether you make it safely to the other side: **Fact**, **Faith**, and **Feelings**.”

He pointed toward the tracks disappearing into the mist.

    **“Fact is the Engineer.”**
The station master continued, “The engineer knows every inch of these rails. He has the maps, the signals, the maintenance records. The tracks were laid by skilled hands decades ago and inspected daily. The bridge over the ravine? Solid steel and concrete. These are not opinions—they are facts. The train runs on them whether you feel good about it or not.”

Alex stared into the fog. “But I can’t see any of that right now.”

“Exactly,” said the pastor. “That’s where **Faith** comes in. Faith is the Conductor.
The conductor doesn’t lay the tracks or drive the train. His job is simply to trust the engineer and punch your ticket. Faith is what gets you on board and keeps you seated even when the fog is thick and the bridge is out of sight. Faith says, ‘The engineer has never failed yet, and the facts say the track is sound.’”

Then Reverend Thomas leaned in with a twinkle in his eye. “Now, **Feelings**… Feelings is that loud passenger in the back of the car. He’s always talking. Sometimes he’s excited—‘What a beautiful journey!’ Sometimes he’s terrified—‘We’re all going to die!’ He screams when the train rounds a curve and the wheels squeal. He panics in the tunnels. But here’s the important thing: Feelings never drives the train. He doesn’t even have a ticket. He just rides along.”

Alex chuckled nervously. “So what do I do when Feelings starts yelling?”

“You do what every wise traveler does,” the pastor replied. “You listen to the Conductor (Faith), who trusts the Engineer (Fact). You speak the facts out loud to quiet the noisy passenger. ‘The tracks are solid. The engineer is faithful. We are moving forward.’ Over time, Feelings often settles down and even starts enjoying the ride. But even if he doesn’t—if he throws a tantrum the whole way—you still arrive at the destination because the train runs on Fact, guided by Faith, not by how anyone feels.”

Just then the Mountain Express came rumbling out of the mist, right on time. Its headlight cut through the fog like a promise.

As Alex stood up to board, Reverend Thomas placed a hand on his shoulder. “Son, life is a lot like this train. God’s Word is the Fact—the solid track. Trusting Him is the Faith that gets you on board. Your emotions are real, but they make terrible engineers. Don’t wait until you *feel* like God is near. Get on the train because the facts say He is. The feelings will catch up eventually… or they won’t. Either way, you’ll make it home.”

Alex boarded the train that day. The fog never lifted completely, and there were moments when the curves felt scary and the passenger named Feelings shouted loudly. But he kept reminding himself of the facts and choosing faith.

When he finally stepped off the train in the sunlit valley, his father was waiting—weak, but alive. Alex hugged him tightly and whispered a quiet thank you to the old station master’s wisdom.

    ---

    **A Pastor’s Closing Word:**

Friends, in your darkest fog, remember:
**Facts** don’t change with your feelings.
**Faith** takes you where facts lead.
And **Feelings**… well, they get to ride, but they don’t get to steer.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)

The Engineer is trustworthy. Get on board. The destination is worth it.

  • Gems From The Scriptures - There's Power in the Bible (12 mins)
I always thought the word power in the Bible meant strength, might, or force, sort of like a punch from Superman. But that meaning is only translated power twice (2Thes. 1:9 & 2 Pet.2:11). All other times, the word power in our Bibles means capability (to be able to do something) or authority (the right or rulership over something). It's knowing what's meant that's the issue.

  • Today’s readings.. (Numbers 24,25), (Proverbs 17), (Ephesians 5,6)
First, remember that all those who really believe in God and Jesus Christ are called “saints”. The Greek word translated as saint, means, “holy, set apart.” Saints set themselves apart from worldly godless ways of thinking and doing. Paul’s letters are addressed to saints, “the saints who are in Ephesus” “saints … who are in Philippi” [opening verse in each letter]. So all true believers are “saints” in God’s eyes, and therefore inspired writers like Paul had this very much in mind in sending encouraging letters to them.
Note what Paul says “is proper among saints” [Ch. 5 v.3]. He writes, “But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness, nor foolish talk, no crude joking.” [v.3,4]
Something which is “named” is something which is talked about and discussed; yet we are often confronted with fleshly things if we watch much that is on television! Paul’s punch line in his message is – “you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous, that is an idolater, has no inheritance in the kingdom of God.” [v.5]
We have idolaters today! Think of the things people idolize, things that are the focus of their thinking or admiration! It can be something we own, or covet and want to own, and that thing (as one example, the latest electronic gadget), takes centre stage in our thinking, pushing godly thoughts into the background or even swamping them completely.
Our minds often work in devious ways so that we avoid being honest with ourselves – in order to prevent ourselves from feeling uncomfortable, or even guilty about a matter in our conscience. We can do that as we read what Paul writes, glossing over his points. Finally notice his point in v. 6 “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience” How close is that wrath in 2026?

  • Light in the Darkness

**For the LORD God is a sun and a shield; the LORD gives grace and glory; He withholds no good thing from those who walk with integrity. O LORD of Hosts, how blessed is the man who trusts in You!** (Ps 84:11-12)

//In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  Now the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.  And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.//

From the very foundation of the universe, God brings order from chaos and shines light into the darkness. He formed man of the dust of the earth that He created, and breathed His breath of life into him, so that man might bear His image, be fruitful, and multiply over the face of the earth.

//In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.// (Joh 1:1-5)

Jesus manifested that light in the flesh, so that we could behold the Glory of His Father. Jesus is the fulfillment of every promise God has ever made to man.

In the 1901 American Standard Version, we find this translation of Hebrews 1:3:

“who being the effulgence of his glory, and the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had made purification of sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high”

Jesus is the effulgence of God‘s glory. Where most translations choose “radiance” or “brightness", which are perfectly fine translations, the ASV chose a word that packs a poetic punch, and pulls something a bit deeper from “radiance”.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary website has this to say about “effulgence":

“It’s not a shiny ‘new’ word, having made its English language debut in the 17th century, but it does come from the Latin verb fulgēre, meaning ‘to shine.’ Effulgence isn’t used for bog-standard brightness, however; it’s reserved for shininess that dazzles, inspires, leaves you gobsmacked—in other words, ‘radiant splendor.’”

Shininess that dazzles, inspires, and leaves you “gob-smacked"…

If that isn‘t a good description of Jesus, I don‘t know what is.

John goes on to tell us more about the nature of the light that Jesus manifested in the world:

//The true Light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him.//(John 1:9-10)

And a few verses down, John caps it off with this:

//The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.//(John 1:14)

Brothers, sisters, do you know that Jesus came to shine that same light that was shining at the foundation of the world into the darkness of each heart that will seek him? And, did you know that, by having that light shined into our hearts, it becomes our task to allow the effulgence of it to shine into the wider world?

We are called, dear siblings, to “dazzle, inspire, and leave gob-smacked” with God‘s glory every single soul that we come into contact with.

God is our shield and our Sun…go and proclaim it to the world.

    Father,

I thank you for shining your light into my darkness, and I pray that I may take that light and turn it outward into the lives of others who so desperately need that illumination and warmth. I pray, Father, that you may grant me the strength, the wisdom, and the courage to take up my shield and shine that light into the face of the darkness.

Please correct my feet when they falter, and keep me steadfast in your abiding love.

    In Jesus‘ name,

    Amen

O LORD of Hosts, how blessed is the man who trusts in You!** (Ps 84:11-12) //In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  Now the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.  And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.// From the very foundation of the universe, God brings order from chaos and shines light into the darkness. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.// (Joh 1:1-5) Jesus manifested that light in the flesh, so that we could behold the Glory of His Father. Jesus is the fulfillment of every promise God has ever made to man. In the 1901 American Standard Version, we find this translation of Hebrews 1:3: “who being the effulgence of his glory, and the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had made purification of sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high” Jesus is the effulgence of God‘s glory. Where most translations choose “radiance” or “brightness", which are perfectly fine translations, the ASV chose a word that packs a poetic punch, and pulls something a bit deeper from “radiance”. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary website has this to say about “effulgence": “It’s not a shiny ‘new’ word, having made its English language debut in the 17th century, but it does come from the Latin verb fulgēre, meaning ‘to shine.’ Effulgence isn’t used for bog-standard brightness, however; it’s reserved for shininess that dazzles, inspires, leaves you gobsmacked—in other words, ‘radiant splendor.’” Shininess that dazzles, inspires, and leaves you “gob-smacked"… If that isn‘t a good description of Jesus, I don‘t know what is. John goes on to tell us more about the nature of the light that Jesus manifested in the world: //The true Light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him.//(John 1:9-10) And a few verses down, John caps it off with this: //The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.//(John 1:14) Brothers, sisters, do you know that Jesus came to shine that same light that was shining at the foundation of the world into the darkness of each heart that will seek him? And, did you know that, by having that light shined into our hearts, it becomes our task to allow the effulgence of it to shine into the wider world? We are called, dear siblings, to “dazzle, inspire, and leave gob-smacked” with God‘s glory every single soul that we come into contact with. God is our shield and our Sun…go and proclaim it to the world. Father, I thank you for shining your light into my darkness, and I pray that I may take that light and turn it outward into the lives of others who so desperately need that illumination and warmth. I pray, Father, that you may grant me the strength, the wisdom, and the courage to take up my shield and shine that light into the face of the darkness. Please correct my feet when they falter, and keep me steadfast in your abiding love. In Jesus‘ name, Amen Pray for persecuted Christians in MYANMAR on the VOM App! https://www.persecution.com/app

    Forgetting–on Purpose

    By Bobby Davis

“I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” Jeremiah 31:34

Recently, I made a list of people who annoyed me—to see if I could find a way to get past those feelings and I came up with a surprisingly long list. As I looked them over, I realized that many of them hadn’t harmed me, directly. Most of them just had attitudes or behavior that I didn’t approve of. But what had they done to me?

I studied each one carefully, asking how they affected me; and in most cases, the only thing I found was that they’d made me afraid—that they wouldn’t leave me alone, that they’d hurt someone I cared for, or maybe they’d somehow embarrass me. Convinced that I had a part in each of these mini-resentments, I also saw that I actually liked the fact that many people annoyed me, because it allowed me to feel superior to them—and that smarted!

So, what was the solution? Forgiveness, of course. But what if they hadn’t done anything I needed to forgive?

Finally, the truth dawned on me. Whether they had hurt me or others didn’t really matter. What I needed to do was forgive—and forget. God promised to do that, but how could I do that, myself? I truly thought it was impossible, but I was wrong.

Remember the long-standing feud between the famous twins in the Bible? Jacob tricked his brother Esau out of the blessings intended for the first-born, then fled to avoid his wrath. But many years later, God instructed him to go back and face his angry brother, who had grown rich and powerful and now vowed to kill him.

There are many details to this story—including Jacob’s famous struggle with the Angel of the Lord. But it’s the face-to-face encounter that really packs a punch. The Bible says that Jacob was in great distress. In fact, he expected the worst. He divided his family into two groups so that if Esau attacked one group, the others might escape. But God told him to meet his brother, so he obeyed. As he approached, Jacob saw that Esau had 400 men with him, and his heart sank. But what happened next was totally unexpected. You see, God had done a work on Esau’s heart, as well, and much to Jacob’s surprise, his brother ran to him, hugged him, and kissed him; and they both broke down and wept for joy.

Our Heavenly Father is longsuffering and patient; and like the father in the story of the Prodigal Son, He runs to us with open arms and remembers our sins no more!

I like to call that purposeful forgetting. Choosing to deliberately forget all about something. It’s not a gimmick. If God can erase His memory of our sins, then so can we. After all, we are made in the image and likeness of our Creator.

Here’s what I do today. First, I ask God for clarity. Have I really forgiven the harms that have been done to me, or to others? Second, I deliberately ask God to let me see them through His eyes, focusing on what’s good about them, or the good things they do. I purposely avoid looking at their faults, and the more I focus on what’s good, the less I think about what’s bad.

I don’t try to do this on my own strength. That’s a waste of time. But I know that God’s will for me is to forgive, just as He does. So I deliberately choose to forget, and I ask Him every day to supernaturally erase those memories. And with time and practice, it works.

Revelation 12:10 says that Satan is the accuser of our brethren, accusing them before God day and night! Lord, keep me from joining him in those accusations. Let me speak words that build up and encourage, and may I do Thy will, always.
