    Good afternoon, children of God.
    I come to return all the glory back to God of heaven and earth, our Lord Jesus Christ. I want to thank God for saving my life from premature death.
    It happened—it was—it happened last week. It all started exactly Sunday last week, after the service. I no understand myself again. It was like a joke. The thing get start—continued getting deteriorated, to the extent that I was hospitalized on Tuesday.

    Being hospitalized, I was not responding to treatment. But the servant of God kept praying with me, and kept checking on me. So, we kept going. It reached—I think, was it on Wednesday? I—I just started giving up on myself. All the—my husband beside me, the stress he's going through, and my family, I look at everything, I say, "Is it not better I should just—let me just go. Let me just go. Let me just go."

    So, after one of the injection, I slept off. I could not understand—know—I allow my husband to go out of the—by my side. So, I just closed my eye. After closing my eye, I found myself on—in a new city. There was nobody. I was just going—I just keep going, don't even know where I'm going to.
    So, inside the revelation, I now saw the man of God of this commission who asked me, "Where are you going?" I told him, "I don't even know where I'm going, but I just want to go. Let me rest." He told me to come back. He said I should come back. "Why do you want me to come back?" He said I should just come back.
    So, God used his face. He stretched his hand, and I hold his hand. Holding his hand, I turned back. Turning back, I open my eye and now saw myself, I was still on the hospital bed. I say, "Wow, was it a play or a joke? Does it mean I was really going?"

    That was how I woke up, and still continued.
    So, I—when he later called, I told him the revelation I had. He prayed with me, said, "Why did I want to give up?" Since I started working on myself again, that was how I started receiving—I started responding to treatment. Gradually, I was discharged. I was discharged on Friday.
    After my discharge, I reached home, I was just managing. I cannot eat, I cannot drink, but they forced me that I have to be taking something. I claimed today that, "Yes, I can take something," so that they should let me go, that I realized that the body is non-more of the medical. Let me go home and think and pray, and struggle to pray.

    So, reaching home, yesterday afternoon, I ate, but I started having another pain again. And there was this condition attached to me seeing the doctor that must be stable before the next procedure. I started having severe pain that I cannot even explain—I don't want to say it out.
    When I checked the time, it was already some minutes after eight. I say, "Ah, okay. Let me go online." Coming online now, I met they already started prayer. So, I joined the prayer. Joining the prayer, I was hitting my tummy and that of my waist. 'Cause I say, "This time around, I'm not in the hospital. Let's face it. I'm in the house. Let's face it squarely."
    I followed the prayer. When I started the prayer, sleeping was coming. The sleeping was so deep. Me that I hardly slept sometimes like that, the sleep, since I started being on drugs, sleeping was coming, I was struggling with the sleeping, I was praying. I say I must pray. Even when they do the—share the grace, I don't even know. When I—when I check again, I say, "Okay," I continue again.

    I was hitting it. I was telling the pain to go back to the sender. Since that yesterday night till now, I've not taken anything. God brought relief! Not even a single paracetamol I've not taken, and I cannot find the pain.

    I just want to say, "Thank you, Jesus, for taking over." Now that is the area I got to learn that, "Okay, any power that don't want to let me be, let's face it." And God took over.
    I just want to say, "Thank you, Jesus, for healing me." May His name alone be praised. I cover my testimony with the blood of Jesus, and this affliction and every other one, they will not come back again, in Jesus' name. Amen.
    God bless you, sir.

  • SHAKEN, BUT NOT STIRRED BECAUSE OF MY FAITH!
    Key Scripture:
    “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord…” — 1 Corinthians 15:58 (KJV)

    Thought for the Day...
    There are moments in life when your faith will not prevent the shaking—it will keep the shaking from destroying you.
    Sometimes we mistakenly believe that strong faith means we will never experience fear, disappointment, uncertainty, pressure, betrayal, loss, or unexpected trouble. But the Bible never promises that believers will live unshaken lives. Instead, Scripture teaches us how to remain unmoved while everything around us is shaking.
    You may be shaken by what happened, but you don't have to be stirred away from what you believe.
    You can say:
    “I felt it, but I didn't fold.”
    “I cried, but I didn't quit.”
    “I was disappointed, but I didn't stop trusting God.”
    “The storm shook my surroundings, but it couldn't shake my foundation.”
    Why?
    BECAUSE OF MY FAITH!

    FAITH DOESN'T ALWAYS STOP THE SHAKING—SOMETIMES IT HOLDS YOU THROUGH IT
    Jesus told Peter:
    “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not…” — Luke 22:31–32 (KJV)
    Notice that Jesus didn't tell Peter, “You won't be sifted.”
    He said, essentially, “When you're sifted, I'm praying that your faith survives.”
    That's powerful!
    Sometimes God doesn't immediately remove the situation. Instead, He strengthens you in the situation.
    The enemy wants the shaking to become a breaking.
    But God says:
    “You may shake, but you will not shatter.”
    Your emotions may shake.
    Your finances may shake.
    Your relationships may shake.
    Your plans may shake.
    Your confidence may shake.
    But when your faith is anchored in Jesus Christ, your foundation remains secure.

    THE STORM CAN SHAKE THE HOUSE, BUT IT CANNOT MOVE THE FOUNDATION
    Jesus said:
    “…a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not…” — Matthew 7:24–25 (KJV)
    Notice something important.
    The house built on the rock still experienced the storm.
    The rain still fell.
    The floods still came.
    The winds still blew.
    And the storm still beat upon the house.
    The difference wasn't the absence of a storm.
    The difference was the foundation.
    Somebody looking at your life may wonder:
    "How are you still standing after everything you've been through?"

    The answer is simple:
    MY FOUNDATION IS JESUS!
    I've been shaken—but my foundation hasn't moved.
    I've been wounded—but my foundation hasn't moved.
    I've been disappointed—but my foundation hasn't moved.
    I've had nights when I didn't understand what God was doing—but my foundation hasn't moved!

    WHAT SHAKES YOU REVEALS WHAT'S HOLDING YOU!
    Hebrews declares:
    “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace…” — Hebrews 12:28 (KJV)
    Sometimes shaking reveals what we have unknowingly depended upon.
    We trusted the job—until the job changed.
    We trusted people—until people disappointed us.
    We trusted our plans—until life interrupted them.
    We trusted our own strength—until we discovered we weren't strong enough.
    Then the shaking reminded us:
    God was supposed to be our foundation all along.
    When temporary things start moving, faith grabs hold of the One who never changes.
    “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” — Hebrews 13:8 (KJV)
    Everything around you can change while the God underneath you remains the same.

    FAITH SAYS, “EVEN IF GOD DOESN'T CHANGE IT YET, I STILL TRUST HIM!”
    Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego faced a fiery furnace because they refused to bow.
    Their response was remarkable:
    “Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us…” — Daniel 3:17 (KJV)
    But then they said:
    “But if not… we will not serve thy gods…” — Daniel 3:18 (KJV)

    That's shaken-but-not-stirred faith!
    They knew God could deliver them, but their faith wasn't dependent upon God doing exactly what they wanted.
    “God can—but even if He doesn't, He's still God.”
    That's mature faith.
    If He heals me—I trust Him.
    If I'm still waiting—I trust Him.
    If the door opens—I trust Him.
    If the door stays closed—I trust Him.
    If I understand—I trust Him.
    If I don't understand—I STILL TRUST HIM!
    My circumstances don't determine God's character.
    God is faithful even when life doesn't make sense.

    YOU MAY BEND UNDER PRESSURE WITHOUT BREAKING
    Paul described the Christian journey this way:
    “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.” — 2 Corinthians 4:8–9 (KJV)

    Look at those contrasts:
    Troubled—but not distressed.
    Perplexed—but not hopeless.
    Persecuted—but not abandoned.
    Knocked down—but not destroyed.

    In other words:
    SHAKEN—BUT STILL STANDING!
    Faith doesn't mean you never have difficult moments.
    Faith means difficult moments don't get the final word.

    WHEN THE SHAKING STOPS
    One day you'll look back and realize:
    What you thought was going to destroy you actually developed you.
    The shaking taught you how to pray.
    The shaking taught you how to trust.
    The shaking taught you who was really for you.
    The shaking exposed what wasn't stable.
    The shaking drove you deeper into God's Word.
    And the shaking taught you something about yourself:
    “I didn't know my faith was this strong until life gave me something heavy enough to test it.”
    James 1:3 declares:
    “Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.”
    Your faith isn't merely being tested.
    Your faith is being strengthened.

    Prayer...
    Heavenly Father, thank You for being my Rock when everything around me feels unstable. When life shakes me, strengthen my faith. When fear tries to enter my heart, remind me of Your promises. When I don't understand what You're doing, help me trust who You are.
    Lord, let every storm drive me closer to You. Give me faith that refuses to quit, worship that refuses to stop, and confidence that declares, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in him” (Job 13:15).
    I declare that trouble will not destroy me, disappointment will not define me, and fear will not control me. My life is built upon Jesus Christ, the Solid Rock.
    I may be shaken, but I will not be stirred away from my faith.
    In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!

    DECLARATION...
    I may be shaken, but I will not be stirred away from my faith!
    I will not allow fear to replace my faith.
    I will not allow disappointment to replace my worship.
    I will not allow delay to make me doubt God's promises.
    I will not allow what I see to make me forget what God said.
    My faith is anchored.
    My hope is secure.
    My foundation is Jesus Christ.
    The winds may blow.
    The rain may fall.
    The ground around me may shake.
    BUT I WILL STILL BE STANDING!
    Because I've discovered something about God:
    HE IS FAITHFUL IN THE FIRE.
    HE IS FAITHFUL IN THE STORM.
    HE IS FAITHFUL IN THE WAITING.
    HE IS FAITHFUL IN THE SHAKING.
    I'M SHAKEN, BUT I'M NOT STIRRED—BECAUSE OF MY FAITH!
    SHAKEN, BUT NOT STIRRED BECAUSE OF MY FAITH! • This Week's Prayer Guide

    August 9 - This week, pray for the needs of the people of Suzhou. Pray for the church to be a Christlike witness to their friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family members.

    August 10 - In recent years, many foreign and even domestic manufacturers have left Suzhou and its nearby development areas, leaving behind an economic void. Please pray that God will help revive Suzhou’s economy and provide for the economic needs of its people.

    August 11 - The departure of these companies and factories have led to a rise in unemployment, particularly among the young people. Many of them are steeped in a sense of hopelessness and feel like giving up. Please pray that the young people in the city can find a hope that is not based on career success, but in Christ.

    August 12 - Like many other cities in China, the economic downturn inevitably leads to population loss. Many young people have migrated to other cities or other parts of Suzhou to seek employment, making some less developed neighborhoods feeling empty. Please pray that God will bring revival to these neighborhoods, both economically and spiritually.

    August 13 - Population loss is also leading to shepherding challenges. People come and go according to their economic and employment needs, leaving pastors and church leaders feeling destabilized. Please pray that God will provide local churches with a stable core group of people, and that church leaders can know their sheep deeply.

    August 14 - One silver lining of the economic downturn is that young professionals are working less and thus have weekends open, and they are able to participate in Sunday worship more regularly. May the Lord refresh the souls of these young professionals through worship and church community, and alleviate their anxiety about their future.

    August 15 - One of the local churches in Suzhou recognized the opportunity to reach out to the elderly in the city. Volunteers divide into teams to cut hair, trim nails, visit and pray with the elderly. Please pray that they will encounter more opportunities to share the gospel, and that God will bring many elderly to faith through their work.

Please pray that they will encounter more opportunities to share the gospel, and that God will bring many elderly to faith through their work. Join us on Zoom this Thursday from 10:30am-11:00am EST for our weekly prayer call as we pray for Chinese churches in Suzhou. • Dear Father,

    I've noticed how easily encouraged I become when conditions are favorable, especially with regard to spiritual exercises. I'd pray better in a cozy atmosphere filled with gentle, audible music. Love, joy, abundance, and comfort all seem to lift my spirit. But I came across a passage in Ezekiel which says: "In my thirtieth year, in the fourth month on the fifth day, while I was among the exiles by the Kebar River, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God." Five years in a foreign land, among the captives, and Ezekiel began to see visions?

    This is particularly amazing to me because not only do I thrive more in good conditions, I also struggle to maintain fervor as soon as I am taken away from my familiar atmosphere. Yet, in this passage, I see that, first, the atmosphere did not affect Ezekiel's connection to You, and second, it was evident that You were not far from him.

    The subtlety of familiarity is that it has the potential to condition our minds, often subconsciously. "For how shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?" As though communion were limited by atmosphere, and unfamiliar circumstances could somehow blur our understanding of Your omnipresence. So our relationship with You easily becomes affected by whatever comes or goes around that does not appear favorable to us. So much so that we need not be exiled to feel exiled from You.

    How stable is this manner of spiritual engagement? I believe that, to attain stability, we must first settle in our hearts that communion with You is not reserved for favorable conditions alone.

  • continuation chapter two 2.1
    Today, let us talk about the gritty, determined, thoroughly human work that is required to be free from sin. On the path to perfection, there are roles to play. God's grace is the wind—a magnificent, roaring, endless gale of generosity, a hurricane of holy help. But we, my friend, must raise the sail. And raising a sail is not done by sitting in the hull, thinking positive thoughts about wind, and declaring, "I am a sail-raiser in Jesus' name!" It involves pulling ropes, untying knots, climbing masts, and probably getting a splinter or two in places you'd rather not mention. It involves calluses, not cushions. The sailor who refuses to touch the ropes but insists he's "trusting the wind" will stay in the harbor forever, growing barnacles on his bottom, and eventually becoming a tourist attraction: "Come see the Man of Faith, who believed so hard the boat hasn't moved in forty years."

    ‎Let me paint you a simple picture, so absurd that its truth will be unavoidable. It's like a parable, but with more malaria.

    ‎Imagine a man struck down by a severe case of malaria. His body is a furnace; his joints ache as if he's been tenderized with a mallet wielded by a very enthusiastic chef. He prays to God for healing. "Lord, with all my faith, I believe You will heal me!" he cries from his sweat-drenched bed, voice cracking with the kind of sincerity that makes angels pause and take notes. Then, the doctor arrives—a miracle in itself, a human being trained by human knowledge, arriving on time—and places the anti-malarial tablets on the bedside table. Little white pills of possibility. And the man refuses them. He waves a feverish, trembling hand and says, "No, no, take those abominations away. If I take the medicine, I'm not trusting God completely. That would be putting my faith in pharmaceuticals, not in the Almighty. My faith alone is enough. I'm just going to rest in the finished work of the cinchona tree. I'm going to 'stand on the Word'... from a horizontal position... while hallucinating from the fever." And he rolls over, shivering, smiling the smile of the profoundly deluded, the smile of a man who has confused stubbornness with sanctification.

    ‎Now, tell me, what will become of that man? We all know the tragic punchline. His faith will be sincere. His prayers will be genuine. His theological position on divine healing will be impeccably orthodox, with all the right Greek words footnoted. And his funeral will be well-attended, with people standing around the casket whispering, "He's in a better place now," which is true, but he could have been in a better place here, too, namely alive and swallowing tablets. God, in His extravagant wisdom, provided the healing agent within the bark of that tree, hidden away for centuries like a love letter waiting to be opened by a scientist with a microscope. Grace grew the tree in some distant jungle. Grace guided the chemist who isolated the compound. Grace mixed the ingredients into a stable pill. Grace delivered the tablet to a pharmacy near you, probably via a truck driver named Grace, who was listening to Amazing Grace on the radio. But the man has a critical, indispensable role: he must rise from his bed—however feebly, however dramatically—pour a glass of water, lift the tablet to his lips, and swallow. Without that tiny, trembling act of human cooperation, the prayer, however beautiful, however poetic, however theologically sound and beautifully alliterated, ends in a coffin. Healing requires a partnership, a duet, not a solo performance with God as the backing track and man as the passive audience member waving a lighter.

    ‎The struggle with sin operates on this very same divine principle. We pray, with great passion, with the kind of fervor that makes our prayer partners slightly uncomfortable, "Deliver me from this anger! Free me from this lust! Pry this greed from my cold, clutching fingers! Break the chains, Lord, break every fetter!" And then, having prayed, having exhausted ourselves with holy vocabulary, we lie back on the spiritual mattress and wait for the lightning bolt. We fold our hands over our chests like a corpse in training. But the prayer is the diagnosis, not the prescription. It's the X-ray, not the surgery. We must then pick up the "anti-malarial tablets" for the soul. The prayer opened the pharmacy; now you have to swallow the medicine. But we'd rather have the prayer than the pill, because the prayer feels spiritual and dramatic, while the pill just feels like hard work and you have to remember to take it three times a day with meals.

    ‎Now, what on earth are those tablets? Let me show you through another picture, because I'm in a parabolic mood and the paint is still wet.

    ‎You can own a library that groans under the weight of books on hydrodynamics. You can fill entire shelves with volumes on the physics of floating, the history of the backstroke, the biographies of Olympic champions. You can memorize the chemical composition of chlorine and write a doctoral thesis titled "The Ontological Significance of Buoyancy: A Theological and Biomechanical Analysis of Not Sinking." Your thesis can be peer-reviewed by the top swimming theologians of our time. You can attend lectures given by the world's greatest swimmers, sitting in the front row, nodding along to their PowerPoint presentations on breathing technique and the proper angle of hand entry. You can even acquire a certificate of swimming theory, beautifully framed in gold leaf, stating that you have believed in the principles of buoyancy with your whole heart and have successfully completed 120 credit hours of thinking about water. You can wear a T-shirt that says "I'm a Swimmer" with a little fish symbol. But the moment a mischievous friend—or an act of God, or a slippery pool deck—throws you into the deep end, that theoretical knowledge becomes spectacularly, hilariously useless. The books won't inflate and save you. The diploma is not a flotation device. The framed certificate will not turn into a life preserver and gently cradle you to safety. There is one thing, and one thing alone, that bridges the chasm between theory and survival: you must get in the water. You must flail, swallow a horrifying amount of chlorinated liquid, come up spluttering and embarrassed with your dignity floating somewhere near the diving board, and practice the strokes yourself. Again and again and again. The knowledge of swimming has never mastered a single stroke for a single human being. It has never pulled anyone to the side of the pool. It just sits there in the books, looking profound and smelling faintly of mildew, while the drowning man sinks to the bottom, his head full of elegant theories about the physics of arm rotation.

  • Good morning, brethren.
    1. Morning devotion for today.

    MD.i. MORNING TEA
    THE WORD FOR TODAY
    THURSDAY JULY 30, 2O26.
    "DEAL WITH THE STUMBLING BLOCKS (2)"

    'Make up your mind not to put any stumbling block…in your brother’s way.’
    Romans 14:13 NIV

    HERE ARE two more stumbling blocks you need to remove in order to win someone to Christ: 1) boredom. Jesus isn’t boring, but sometimes religion is. The story is told of a lady who fell asleep during the sermon. Pointing at the man sitting next to her, the pastor said, ‘Please wake that woman up!’ The man replied, ‘You put her to sleep, Reverend, you wake her up!’ Jesus is called ‘the Good Shepherd’ (John 10:11), and the Greek word for ‘good’ is ‘kalos’, which means ‘captivating’; that’s the Christ we need to present to those seeking spiritual direction. 2) money. It’s been said the most sensitive nerve in a person’s body is the one that runs to their wallet. Have there been financial scandals in the church? Yes. They even had them in the New Testament church (Acts 5). But don’t throw the baby out with the bath water! It takes money to build churches, feed and clothe the needy and send out missionaries. When money is in the right hands, it’s a solution, not a problem. Furthermore, if God can trust you to finance His plans, He will show you how to make more money. He said, ‘…I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit…’ (Isaiah 48:17 AMP). 3) discomfort. People say, ‘I just don’t feel comfortable in church.’ The truth can do that to you! The gospel is designed to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. When Paul preached, some people trembled, but when trembling leads to trusting in Christ, it’s a good thing.

    ```KEY VERSE:``` _*"And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead" (JEREMIAH 50:19).*_
    *The story of Jeff, as published on the website of _Changed Lives Archives,_ narrates the amazing account of redemption and restoration of a wandering child come home. He grew up in the church and drifted away from the faith after the sudden death of his father. He pursued a career in rock music, which led him into broken relationships and addiction. However, through the persistent prayers and support of his aunt, Jeff experienced a spiritual revival. He surrendered his life to Christ. The good news and God's intervention must have accelerated his mother's miraculous healing and recovery from cancer.*
    *Stepping back into history, the children of Israel had been warned by God to ensure faithful obedience to His laws and complete separation from the contamination of the Gentile nations around them, as they were preparing to inherit the Promised Land. Unfortunately, they kept on disobeying God, and falling into rebellion and idolatry. Eventually, God expressed His divine displeasure after they had exhausted His long rope of love and overdrawn their cheque of mercy. Prophet Jeremiah warned them of the consequences of their disobedience to God and stiff-necked refusal to change their ways and return to the path of righteousness.*
    *The pronouncement of judgment eventually took its proper cause, and they went into captivity and suffered terribly in Babylon. The passage today, however, comes with a message of hope and comfort to the people of God. After the expiration of the period of their punishment, Jeremiah returned with a message of glorious restoration, refreshment and satisfaction in their land. Israel would have a second chance, after spending 70 years in exile.*
    *This teaches us that no matter how far anyone has wandered away from God, the loving arms of the Lord are wide open to receive such if only the individual will retrace their steps like the prodigal son and return to God, the Father of mercy. Our loving Father in heaven is longing to receive as many as will seek His face. A new season of glorious restoration and refreshing starts now.*
    ``` MEMORY VERSE:``` _*"My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not" (PROVERBS 1:10).*_

    *_"Have You Counted the Cost?"_ is a song written by Arthur J. Hodge in 1923, calling us to prioritise our spiritual wellbeing above physical and temporal comfort and pleasure. Those who follow evil paths often end up entangled in greater sin and destruction.*

    *The pleasures that come with wrongdoing are short-lived and frequently result in regret, pain, and broken ambitions. This is what happened to Amnon, the first son of David, when he committed incest with his sister Tarmar.*

    *As youths, we must allow God's word, the wise counsels of our godly parents and righteous leaders in our schools and neighbourhoods to guide our actions and each step we take. Sinful temporary pleasures will lead to sorrow and the displeasure of God. They cause stagnation and backwardness in the long run. And may lead to eternal regret if there is no repentance.*

    *This is why the writer of our passage said that when sinners entice you, you must not follow them. When we resist the urge to follow the crowd, and walk in wisdom, we will experience the peace of living in alignment with God's word.*

    Besetting sin is that bad thing you do constantly which makes God unhappy. It could be bad habits, telling lies, living a life of pretense, using abusive words, even after you confess to be born again.

    Isaac in our Bible passage never knew that his father (Abraham) told the same lies at the same place, and this continued in their family lineage unconsciously. Jacob, with the support of his mother, also told a lie to his father. Your sin will always follow after you, if you do not repent of it. Yours might be anger or hatred towards others.

    Jesus wants to remove such sins from your life and family lineage. *"And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live"* (Deuteronomy 30:6). *Tell Jesus to root out the adamic nature of besetting sin, and make you pure within and without. He will do it.*

    ```rayer:``` _*Dear Lord, root out every besetting sin in me, and circumcise my heart.*_ 🏽
    THURSDAY, 30TH JULY, 2026.
    *BACKSLIDING, JUDGMENT, MERCY AND RESTORATION*
    *TEXT:* JEREMIAH 50:17-24.
    17 Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.
    18 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.
    19 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead.
    20 In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.
    21 Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.
    22 A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.
    23 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!
    24 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the LORD.
    *Timeless Truth:*_"And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you"_ (Joel 2:25).
    *INTRODUCTION*
    The Book of Judges gives a summary of the events happening to the children of Israel as *"In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes."* . First there is obedience to the Word of God which leads to abundance of blessings and victory over the adversaries. Due to their abundance, they went back into idolatry and sinned after which there came oppression and defeat by the adversary nations for many years. In their afflictions, they cried to God and God showed His mercy and restored them. After restoration to blessings, then backsliding set in and the cycle continued to repeat itself. Such is the life of a believer who is not stable in the Lord. The history of Israel reveals both the severity and the goodness of God. When God's people departed from Him, they suffered oppression because of their disobedience. Yet, God never abandoned His covenant people forever. He promised to judge the cruel nations that afflicted them and to restore the repentant remnant. The text teaches that backsliding attracts divine discipline, wicked oppressors will not escape God's judgment, and sincere repentance always opens the door to God's mercy and restoration.
    *1. The Retribution for Backsliding*
    a. Israel is compared to a scattered sheep driven away by fierce lions. Israel, under the shepherd of the Lion of the tribe of Judah, was supposed to be an unconquerable ruler over every nation on earth since they were promised to be the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 28:13). They only enjoyed this blessing for a few moments under some of their good kings like David, Solomon, Hezekiah and Josiah. Why was the enjoyment of their promised blessings always short lived? Sin of different forms or different shades. What were the consequences) of their sins? Defeat and oppression from the adversaries.
    b. The Assyrian and Babylonian empires became instruments of God's chastisement because of Israel's persistent rebellion. Sin always weakens believers, exposes them to the enemy and robs them of the peace and blessings of God. Backsliding never leaves anyone better than before. A backslider deprives himself of the best of God. Though God disciplines His children, His purpose is to bring them to repentance and renewed fellowship with Him.
    *Question*
    Have you allowed any form of backsliding to expose your life to unnecessary suffering and spiritual defeat?
    *2. The Retribution for the Brutal*
    a. Although God used Babylon as an instrument of judgment, He also held Babylon accountable for its cruelty, pride and violence. *"Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria"*. The Lord declared that He would bring desolation upon the land, and trap the nation because it arrogantly opposed Him. No oppressor, persecutor or wicked person escapes God's righteous judgment. Those who exploit others, fight against God's people or exalt themselves against the Lord will ultimately face His justice. There are those who set up snares for God's people and those who are responsible for the fall of God's people. Such people will definitely be judged by God.
    b. *"Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!"* (Matthew 18:3). Those who cause others to offend God or fall into sin will definitely be recompensed by God.
    *Question*
    Are you involved directly or indirectly ensnare, beloved of God, to fall by your life, compartments etc.?
    *3. Restoration from Backsliding*
    The marvels of God's mercy is God's grace and willingness to totally restore those who are backsliders and are sincerely repentant. Nobody is doomed for destruction except those who willingly reject the mercy of God. The final condemnation of sinners in hell is so severe that God is willing to forgive no matter the gravity of the offence and backsliding. The final word to His people was not destruction, but restoration. He promised to bring Israel back to their own pasture where they would enjoy abundance and satisfaction. Even more wonderful, He declared that their sins would be sought, but not found because He would pardon the remnant whom He preserved. This points to God's abundant mercy toward all who genuinely repent. Through His forgiveness, the repentant sinner is restored to fellowship, usefulness and spiritual fruitfulness.
    *Question*
    Have you genuinely returned to God so that you can experience His complete forgiveness and restoration?
    *Prayer Points*
    1.Father, deliver me from every form of backsliding and keep my heart steadfast in my walk with You .
    2.Lord, forgive all my sins, restore my spiritual strength, and renew my fellowship with You .
    3.Help me to be watchful so that I will never be a source of the fall of anybody .
    4.Heavenly Father, let Your mercy restore every blessing, opportunity, and spiritual inheritance each of Your children have lost through disobedience, in Jesus' name .
    *HYMN:* I have decided to follow Jesus
    *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* EPHESIANS 4-6.l.
    2. Morning Prayer for today.
    MP.i. Morning Prayer
    And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ⏤ 2 Corinthians 12:9
    Grace is but glory begun, and glory is but grace perfected. ⏤ Jonathan Edwards
    O God, our Father, we, Your children, come to You for a blessing. Just as the earth needs the sun and rain from Heaven—so do our lives need Your grace, love, and life. We cannot live without You. Without blessings from You—our souls would die. Pour upon us Your grace and love as we bow at Your feet.
    We have duties to fulfill today, and we need wisdom to do them well. Please bestow upon us the grace that will prepare us for whatever You have planned for us. Help us to live together as a family in a way that honors You. Deepen our love for each other, and help us to be patient and kind in all our interactions. Help us to love like You do. Fill our hearts with Your love—then we will love truly. Destroy all selfishness in us and give us the mind of Christ Jesus. Help us to bear one another's burdens and to be patient with one another. Make our home more and more like Heaven. May we do Your will here as it is done in Heaven. May our love be like Heaven's love in its purity, tenderness, sincerity, and fellowship.
    Give us the grace to help each other grow spiritually, to make each other holier, and to encourage each other to love and good works. May we be a means of grace to one another. This morning, we open our hearts to the Holy Spirit, that we may receive a new baptism of love as we go out for the day. Keep us from falling along the difficult way. Let no harm come to us. Shield us from temptation—or strengthen us to resist it. Bring us all home safely at nightfall when the day is done. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
    Good morning, brethren. 1. Morning devotion for today. MD.i. 😀🌺🌹🎁🎀💝 MORNING TEA THE WORD FOR TODAY THURSDAY JULY 30, 2O26. "DEAL WITH THE STUMBLING BLOCKS (2)" 'Make up your mind not to put any stumbling block…in your brother’s way.’ Romans 14:13 NIV HERE ARE two more stumbling blocks you need to remove in order to win someone to Christ: 1) boredom. Jesus isn’t boring, but sometimes religion is. The story is told of a lady who fell asleep during the sermon. Pointing at the man sitting next to her, the pastor said, ‘Please wake that woman up!’ The man replied, ‘You put her to sleep, Reverend, you wake her up!’ Jesus is called ‘the Good Shepherd’ (John 10:11), and the Greek word for ‘good’ is ‘kalos’, which means ‘captivating’; that’s the Christ we need to present to those seeking spiritual direction. 2) money. It’s been said the most sensitive nerve in a person’s body is the one that runs to their wallet. Have there been financial scandals in the church? Yes. They even had them in the New Testament church (Acts 5). But don’t throw the baby out with the bath water! It takes money to build churches, feed and clothe the needy and send out missionaries. When money is in the right hands, it’s a solution, not a problem. Furthermore, if God can trust you to finance His plans, He will show you how to make more money. He said, ‘…I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit…’ (Isaiah 48:17 AMP). 3) discomfort. People say, ‘I just don’t feel comfortable in church.’ The truth can do that to you! The gospel is designed to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. When Paul preached, some people trembled, but when trembling leads to trusting in Christ, it’s a good thing. He grew up in the church and drifted away from the faith after the sudden death of his father. He pursued a career in rock music, which led him into broken relationships and addiction. However, through the persistent prayers and support of his aunt, Jeff experienced a spiritual revival. He surrendered his life to Christ. The good news and God's intervention must have accelerated his mother's miraculous healing and recovery from cancer.* *Stepping back into history, the children of Israel had been warned by God to ensure faithful obedience to His laws and complete separation from the contamination of the Gentile nations around them, as they were preparing to inherit the Promised Land. Unfortunately, they kept on disobeying God, and falling into rebellion and idolatry. Eventually, God expressed His divine displeasure after they had exhausted His long rope of love and overdrawn their cheque of mercy. Prophet Jeremiah warned them of the consequences of their disobedience to God and stiff-necked refusal to change their ways and return to the path of righteousness.* *The pronouncement of judgment eventually took its proper cause, and they went into captivity and suffered terribly in Babylon. The passage today, however, comes with a message of hope and comfort to the people of God. After the expiration of the period of their punishment, Jeremiah returned with a message of glorious restoration, refreshment and satisfaction in their land. Israel would have a second chance, after spending 70 years in exile.* *This teaches us that no matter how far anyone has wandered away from God, the loving arms of the Lord are wide open to receive such if only the individual will retrace their steps like the prodigal son and return to God, the Father of mercy. Our loving Father in heaven is longing to receive as many as will seek His face. And may lead to eternal regret if there is no repentance.* *This is why the writer of our passage said that when sinners entice you, you must not follow them.   • Editor’s note: This July, we are praying for the Chinese diaspora throughout Asia. This week Ruth, a Chinese missionary in Japan, introduces us to the many Chinese living in Japan. She and her family hope that, as they minister to Chinese, they will also be able to share the hope of the gospel with the Japanese. Today, she tells us about the struggles Chinese face as they seek to establish themselves in Japan.
    Japan: Praying for the Chinese Diaspora
    Meet the Missionaries
    China Partnership: Can you introduce yourself, your family, and your church?
    Lily: Before I married my husband, both of us already had a fairly clear missionary calling. We studied theology, then planted a church in [a northeastern Chinese city]. We hoped we could become missionaries, sent out by our own church. God prepared everything very smoothly. We were successfully sent out by our church as missionaries, and came to Japan a few years ago.
    We have already begun an international church in Japan. So far, our main group is still Mandarin-speaking Chinese, but our goal is not only to serve the Chinese community. Our church has some second-generation bilingual Chinese, and some second-generation Chinese who speak only Japanese. We are also very grateful that a Japanese auntie came to faith among us a month or two ago.
    Waves of Immigration to Japan
    CP: What are the needs of the Chinese community in your city? What struggles and hopes do Chinese in Japan commonly face? And what kind of challenges do they encounter as they adapt cross-culturally?
    Lily: It may be clearer if we briefly review the history of Chinese in Japan. There were three waves: the 1980s, where science and engineering international students came to earn money; the 1990s and 2000s, where many came for tech-related fields and better career opportunities; and then 2015 to the present, where many people brought their families seeking a better education and better life.
    The main struggle of these groups is identity. They know they are Chinese. But living in Japanese society, there is a sense of not quite fitting in.
    Then there are descendants of Chinese in Japan. The children of those first migrants may now be second- or even third-generation. Some were born and raised in Japan, while others spent part of their childhood in China and then came to Japan. The cultural world of first category is basically Japanese, and mainly shaped by Japanese culture. Another group is shaped by both Chinese and Japanese cultures.
    The main struggle of these groups is identity. They know they are Chinese. But living in Japanese society, there is a sense of not quite fitting in. On the surface, they appear to form a stable part of the structure of Japanese society, and would find it hard to return to China. But even so – do they truly belong to Japanese society? This struggle is a major part of their experience.
    Their dreams are not mainly for themselves, but for their descendants. Many Chinese born and raised in Japan choose Japanese citizenship when they grow up, because many basically cannot even speak Chinese. Some hope to migrate again, to what they consider an even better country.
    For those who have not been in Japan very long and have not yet obtained long-term, stable status, the struggle is security and stability. Japan’s immigration policies toward Chinese communities have tightened, which creates great unease. Can people settle down amid a rapidly changing Japanese society and a rapidly changing global economy?
    New immigrants here less than five years have even greater struggles. Language, finances, family, understanding culture and adapting to Japanese society all bring many challenges.
    Identity: Who Am I?
    For [children raised here], identity is a deep struggle: “Who am I? Japanese people look at me and think I am Chinese; Chinese people look at me and think I am Japanese.” They seem to know the gospel, but they have not truly gained a God-given identity from the gospel. They may be a confused generation.
    Although Japan accepts immigrants from many countries, it is still a nation with strong ethnic homogeneity. Its culture is very strong, and is not highly open.
    There are real survival challenges: basic consumption is very high. In Japan, it is even possible to go hungry, because the basic cost of living – rice, flour, cooking oil, food, housing, transportation – is high. These are struggles that would be hard to imagine facing in China.
    For children of Chinese families who were born and raised in Japan, there is this issue: their families keep telling them, “You are Chinese,” but they have never understood China and cannot identify themselves as Chinese.
    One feature of Japanese society that may be more pronounced than in other countries is that Japan is a collectivist society. There is a strong tendency to go along with the crowd; if everyone else is doing something, it is hard not to. Although Japan accepts immigrants from many countries, it is still a nation with strong ethnic homogeneity. Its culture is very strong, and is not highly open. There is something overwhelming about this. If someone does not have an identity rooted in the gospel, it can be very painful.
    The descendants of Chinese in Japan face major challenges in their relationships with their parents. Some Chinese children are Japanese not only in language, but in their way of thinking. Their parents, however, may not even speak Japanese well. This means the generations may be unable to communicate deeply. It’s very common that children become dissatisfied with their parents’ Chinese way of doing things. Parent-child relationships are deeply entangled with language and cultural differences.
    Passing the Faith to the Next Generation
    For Christians, faith transmission is a major issue. Around fourth grade, Chinese children in Japan “must” attend cram school and take entrance exams for private middle schools. Not only does this consume money; more importantly, it consumes time. A lot of these children stop coming to church around this time. In their parents’ choices, the children see their parents’ values: “Oh, God is not that important; worship and commitment to the church are not that important. You tell me to believe in God, but when decisions are made, it’s cram school.” Parents subtly pass on to their children society’s values: faster, higher, stronger, and better.
    This is a very, very big challenge. I met some sisters here who were deeply grieved their children no longer came to church. We reflected together on when their child’s attitude toward faith began to change, and they traced it back to those moments and choices. The important question is: what is your primary identity? Are you seeking identity from Japanese society, or are you living in the identity Christ gives you?
    This becomes more visible in this Japanese social culture, but is a general issue in Christian families’ transmission of faith. If you care about your child’s faith, that concern must be embodied in every daily decision. This is the challenge facing the church: we cannot skip the first generation and directly shepherd the second generation. We can only reach children through the parents; we cannot skip one generation and directly enter the next.
    What is your primary identity? Are you seeking identity from Japanese society, or are you living in the identity Christ gives you?
    It is essential for the church to proclaim the gospel in a contextualized way. Children need to see God’s grace, love, and power in the gospel. They must not simply be pushed into church community or seek Chinese identity in the church community – they must truly come to know God there. In God, they receive a renewed identity. Then, as they live on earth, they can become genuine witnesses of the kingdom of heaven. That is the foundation for a stable identity in the future.
    The most important thing for Chinese Christians is their faith, their relationship with God, their identity in Christ, and whether they can live out that real identity in society. This may also be the biggest challenge.
    Editor’s note: This July, we are praying for the Chinese diaspora throughout Asia. This week Ruth, a Chinese missionary in Japan, introduces us to the many Chinese living in Japan. She and her family hope that, as they minister to Chinese, they will also be able to share the hope of the gospel with the Japanese. Today, she tells us about the struggles Chinese face as they seek to establish themselves in Japan. Japan: Praying for the Chinese Diaspora Meet the Missionaries China Partnership: Can you introduce yourself, your family, and your church? Lily: Before I married my husband, both of us already had a fairly clear missionary calling. We studied theology, then planted a church in [a northeastern Chinese city]. We hoped we could become missionaries, sent out by our own church. God prepared everything very smoothly. We were successfully sent out by our church as missionaries, and came to Japan a few years ago. We have already begun an international church in Japan. So far, our main group is still Mandarin-speaking Chinese, but our goal is not only to serve the Chinese community. Our church has some second-generation bilingual Chinese, and some second-generation Chinese who speak only Japanese. We are also very grateful that a Japanese auntie came to faith among us a month or two ago. Waves of Immigration to Japan CP: What are the needs of the Chinese community in your city? What struggles and hopes do Chinese in Japan commonly face? And what kind of challenges do they encounter as they adapt cross-culturally? Lily: It may be clearer if we briefly review the history of Chinese in Japan. There were three waves: the 1980s, where science and engineering international students came to earn money; the 1990s and 2000s, where many came for tech-related fields and better career opportunities; and then 2015 to the present, where many people brought their families seeking a better education and better life. The main struggle of these groups is identity. They know they are Chinese. But living in Japanese society, there is a sense of not quite fitting in. Then there are descendants of Chinese in Japan. The children of those first migrants may now be second- or even third-generation. Some were born and raised in Japan, while others spent part of their childhood in China and then came to Japan. The cultural world of first category is basically Japanese, and mainly shaped by Japanese culture. Another group is shaped by both Chinese and Japanese cultures. The main struggle of these groups is identity. They know they are Chinese. But living in Japanese society, there is a sense of not quite fitting in. On the surface, they appear to form a stable part of the structure of Japanese society, and would find it hard to return to China. But even so – do they truly belong to Japanese society? This struggle is a major part of their experience. Their dreams are not mainly for themselves, but for their descendants. Many Chinese born and raised in Japan choose Japanese citizenship when they grow up, because many basically cannot even speak Chinese. Some hope to migrate again, to what they consider an even better country. For those who have not been in Japan very long and have not yet obtained long-term, stable status, the struggle is security and stability. Japan’s immigration policies toward Chinese communities have tightened, which creates great unease. Can people settle down amid a rapidly changing Japanese society and a rapidly changing global economy? New immigrants here less than five years have even greater struggles. Language, finances, family, understanding culture and adapting to Japanese society all bring many challenges. Identity: Who Am I? For [children raised here], identity is a deep struggle: “Who am I? Japanese people look at me and think I am Chinese; Chinese people look at me and think I am Japanese.” They seem to know the gospel, but they have not truly gained a God-given identity from the gospel. They may be a confused generation. Although Japan accepts immigrants from many countries, it is still a nation with strong ethnic homogeneity. Its culture is very strong, and is not highly open.
