How to hear and understand the Gospel

The LORD Answers Job

Job 38:1-2 ESV Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:

"Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

The LORD Challenges Job

Job 40:6-7 ESV Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:

"Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me.

Job 42:4-7 ESV 'Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you made it known to me.'

I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you;

therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.'

The LORD Rebukes Job's Friends

After the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite; "My anger burns against you and against your two friends, for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.

Romans 10:14-17 ESV How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him in whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news !"

But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Acts 26:17-18 ESV delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles--to whom I am sending you

to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

Romans 15:4-7 ESV For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

By this you know the Spirit of God; every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,

and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.

Orderly Worship

1 Corinthians 14:26-33 What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.

If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret.

But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God.

Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said.

If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent.

For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged,

and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets.

For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.

Brothers and sisters, I am coming to you with a heavy heart but a steadfast faith. Our precious son is only 5 days old and is currently fighting in the hospital. We are calling on the Great Physician to touch his tiny body, bring complete healing, and give the doctors wisdom. Please join us in lifting him up to the Lord. We believe in the power of agreement in prayer. Thank you for standing with us.

WALK BY FAITH

2 Corinthians 5:7
For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Faith is seeking and finding God in Christ - desiring Him and being fulfilled by Him. To say it another way, faith is wholly leaning on Christ for everything in your life. It is trusting Him for eternity. Faith is the acceptance of a gift at the hand of Almighty God. That's what faith is, and anything that doesn't meet that standard, while it may be a spiritual term, is not faith. The Bible tells us that not only do we walk by faith and live by faith every day, but also faith plays a part in our life as we continue to seek a deeper relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

We have a problem in that we have isolated faith to the act of becoming a Christian instead of living to the act of becoming a Christian instead of living the ongoing Christian life. Certainly, faith is at the center of our entrance into salvation. But if we leave it there and do not continue to exercise faith daily, we will fail to live an obedient spirtual life. We literally must walk by faith as believers or we will not walk at all.

Remember, God never wastes our struggles. What feels like a setback may actually be His setup for spirtual growth/maturity. Keep your heart and eyes on him, and keep walking in faith.

"Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith brings about perseverance. And let perseverance have its perfect work, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." (James 1:2–4, LSB)
