  • I call You faithful
    For the promises You've kept
    And every need You've met
    Lord, I'm so grateful
You were with me every step
    And I never will forget

  • A Heart That Follows God

    Scripture

    1 Samuel 13:14 (NKJV)
But now your kingdom shall not continue The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you

    Obedience Matters More Than Appearance

1 Samuel chapter 13 records a critical moment in Saul’s leadership. Facing pressure from the Philistines and watching his army scatter, Saul becomes impatient. Instead of waiting for Samuel as God had instructed, Saul performs the sacrifice himself.

From a human perspective Saul’s actions might seem understandable. The situation was tense and time felt urgent. Yet the issue was not the sacrifice itself but Saul’s disobedience. He stepped outside the authority God had established.

Verse 14 reveals the consequence. God would raise up another leader, a man after His own heart. This phrase does not mean perfection but a heart that sincerely seeks God and desires to obey Him.

This chapter teaches that obedience to God’s instruction matters more than outward religious actions. Saul offered a sacrifice, which appeared spiritual, but it was done in disobedience. God values a heart aligned with Him more than impressive gestures.

For believers today 1 Samuel 13 reminds us that pressure often tests our obedience. When circumstances become difficult or uncertain, the temptation is to take control rather than trust God’s timing. Yet faithful obedience, even when waiting is difficult, honors the Lord.

    Reflection Questions

    1. How do I respond when waiting on God becomes difficult

    2. Have I ever tried to take control instead of trusting God’s timing

    3. What does it mean for my heart to truly follow after God

    Prayer

Lord God help me to trust Your timing and obey Your instructions even when circumstances are difficult. Shape my heart so that I desire to follow You faithfully. Teach me patience and strengthen my commitment to walk in obedience. In Jesus name Amen.
