My secret scripture for learning to hear God's voice:

Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

When you say that God doesn't speak to people anymore and that reading the Bible is the only way to hear from God, you are not acknowledging God's ability to talk to you. I say, God can cause me to hear Him, so He does.
