  • Mathew 7:17-20
"Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit: but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."

I feel that this is a good verse for today's times. Within the last few months so much has happened, not only in the world today but in the Christian community. People are not sure where to look or what's happening next in their world.

That's where Mathew chapter 7 comes in. It's more about cause and effect. You must have good soft, healthily soil that is free from rocks and anything that may affect its growth (root system), clearance from other trees, and a source of nutrition .
In our walk with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit we must have a relationship with them. In gardening there's a word called grafting . Grafting is a technique that whereby tissues of plants are joined to grow together. It takes time and patience for this process to work. The success of this joining requires that the vascular tissues grow together.
We must have the Father, Son and Holy Spirit rooted into every aspect of our lives so that we can grow in their ways, free and clear from the traps of this world- giving God 100% of ourselves. The Bible must be our source of nutrition . It will supply us with what we need in our everyday life.
When we look at how superficial appearances can often mask true intentions, the lesson of Mathew 7:17-20 is profound and relevant to today's times. It reflects on whether our actions align with our professing beliefs and values, prompting a very deep examination of our core integrity and authenticity. It serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of living out our Christian Faith in all practical ways. not just lip speaking or poor actions.
These verses along with others call us to examine our fruit, values and beliefs. We are to strive for a life characterized by good deeds and righteousness, demonstrating our faith though tangible expressions of love and compassion. These verses are a compelling exhortation to live in authenticity, with integrity and consistency, allowing our actions to testify the depth of faith and the sincerity of our own convictions.
Just remember our choices reflect the desire and condition of our hearts, just as a good tree produces good fruit and a bad tree produces bad fruit. Characteristics of good fruit are love, kindness, patience, self-control, and other qualities that align with God's character. On the flip of the coin you have bad fruit which consist of selfishness, deceit, immorality, and any behaviors against God's will for our lives.
In having good fruit we will be able to lead by example in our family, church, family, and with our friends, co-workers, etc.
By them seeing what fruit we bear, they may look to produce the same within themselves for the Kingdom.
So let us reflect on our actions because each choice that we make will impact our world one way or the other. Our good fruit can go bad if a bad choice is made and will effect others in our world. So we have to look upon the word of God to guide us in our decision making. He wants only good for us.

  • Holding strong going though the fire:
Luke 22: 31-32 And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren".

Yeshua first told Simon that Satan desired to have him to test him. In biblical times, wheat or other grain was sifted through a sieve or large strainer. As it was shaken violently, the dirt and other impurities that clung to the grain during the threshing process would separate from the good, usable grain. Satan desires to test each and everyone of us in this manor.

This isn't the first time that we've been given a glimpse into the Spiritual realm. In the book of Job, in  chapter 1, we get an inward look at a conversation between Satan and God. And in verses 9-10 it says "Then Satan answered the Lord and said, "Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land."

But you notice that Yeshua said Simon's name twice, stressing the seriousness of what he is about to say. Also He didn't ask the Father to spare Simon from the test. Instead he prayed that Simons faith not fail, and when he comes through it to strengthen his brethren.

Yeshua knew that Simon would fail the test. And Simon realized it when he denied Yeshua three times. Yeshua also knew that Simon would get back on track with his relationship with Him.

In Acts 2:1-39 we read that the Holy Spirit comes into the upper room and gave Simon the courage to speak on the busiest day of the year in Jerusalem. Simon preached a sermon professing that Yeshua is the son of God to his fellow Jews. And three thousand souls were added.

Someone once asked a silver maker if they could watch him work. He said sure and got some silver and placed it over the fire. He explain that as the fire heats it up, the impurities gets pulled from the center and goes to the edges. So the onlooker ask "How do you know when the center is pure?"

He responded " When I can see my reflection in it"

As believers testing brings us closer to God. We press in to lean on him. Sanctification may release or take away what's not needed, or awaken it , and quite possibly to purify us to make something completely new.

So when the test comes and they will, just remember that we must be sifted and go though the fire to get rid of the impurities we have so when the Father looks on us that he will see himself .

  • "And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?" Matthew 8:29

I feel that this is another verse that kind of gets over looked or doesn't get talked about much. But this verse looks deeply into the spiritual warfare that many people miss.

Charles Stanley said about this verse "The demons knew who Jesus was, and in their knowledge, they trembled. The acknowledgment of Christ's power should lead us to personal surrender and transformation. "

Let's take a little closer look at what's happening in this verse. First in the verse they called out " What have we to do with thee". They recognize Yeshua immediately, and they cry out with fear, revealing something important, His divine authority and power over them. I believe that this is significant when you view the source it is coming from. It shows Yeshua's true divine nature. Some people hasn't gasp this yet when you look at the numbers.

Approximately 2.38 billion people profess to be Christian globally. It seems like a lot until you put the numbers against the worlds population of 8.2 billion. That's about one-third of the world's total population are professing Christ as their Savior.

Then the phrase "Jesus, thou Son of God" is acknowledging his Godly divinity of not only earth but in Heaven itself.

In those times, just like today, the Son has his Father's influence and power backing Him. When He spoke it was as if the Father was speaking.

John 10:30 says " I and my Father are One". This true statement that Jesus made lets you know that both Father and Son are in one accord.

And the third part of this verse "art thou come hither to torment us before the time?"

This lets us know that even the demons know their time is limited here. And Yeshua's authority surpasses any demonic force. It's important for us to know that to align ourselves to Yeshua is to walk with the One that has ultimate and complete authority in Heaven and Earth . Just like every demonic force knows their time is really limited, so is ours. Who have we reached out to in Yeshua's name?

Just like Yeshua walked with the Father, are we walking with Him?

  • Mark 15:21 "And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross."

I think I was like most people for years who read this but didn't really read it. Let me explain. I believe that this verse is full of information and deep in meaning. For example, Simon was a Cyrenian.

Cyrene was a Greek city in the province of Cyrenaica, in eastern Libya, in northern Africa. It had a Jewish community, where 100,000 Judean Jews settled during the reign of Ptolemy Soter (323–285 BC), and was an early center of Christianity.

The Cyrenian Jews had a synagogue in Jerusalem, where many went for annual feasts. This is why Simon was there with his sons. Cyrene to Jerusalem by land was 783 miles.  Walking ~4 miles per hour for 8 hours a day, it would have taken 32 days to make the journey to arrive in the holy city for Passover.

At the moment he comes in contact with Yeshua and the blood on the cross he would be deemed to be ceremonially unclean and no longer able to participate in Passover.  There wouldn't be time to perform the ceremonies to become clean.

Being unable to participate in Passover carried a huge burden.  In a culture and religion where adherence to the the law and participation in the feasts was paramount to salvation, his inability to participate would be carried with him through the entire following year and possibly forever.  There was no “make-up” date for Passover.

I have a strong belief that something happened in the time frame of Him carrying the cross of Yeshua. We really don't hear much more about him but the influence or change that happen extended to his family. The fact that Mark's Gospel specifically names Alexander and Rufus suggests that they were figures of some prominence or familiarity to the Gospel's original audience.

Romans 16:13  "Salute Rufus chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine." This Book was written to Romans, and Paul suggested that they knew who these people were.

Paul's letter to the Romans further supports the idea that this family was active in the early Christian movement. Rufus's designation as "chosen in the Lord" implies a recognized faith and possibly a leadership role within the church. The affectionate reference to his mother as a maternal figure to Paul highlights the close-knit and supportive nature of the early Christian communities.

There's no more mention of Alexander in the New Testament but just by his name being mentioned in the Gospel of Mark might mean that he was in the early Church. I did find it interesting that his name means "Defender of Men".

While writing this, one thought that comes to mind. The work for the fruit that you sew may not be for you to take. It may lay grounds for others to get strength to go farther then you could ever imagine.
