- Habits to Unlearn in Marriage - And What to Learn Instead
Every marriage rises or falls on daily habits. Many couples love each other deeply, yet carry patterns from their past that weaken communication, affection, trust, or unity. The truth is: before we grow in marriage, we often need to unlearn.
Over the next six days, we will explore twelve habits that commonly damage marriages - and the biblical, life-giving habits that should replace them. This journey is about renewal, not blame; wisdom, not judgment. As Ephesians 4:22–24 teaches, God calls us to “put off the old” and “put on the new”.
Whether married or preparing, this series will help you build a marriage marked by understanding, honour, and Christlike love.
Let’s grow together. M.OMs got you!

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)
Beloved, this verse is not just a general statement about spiritual warfare - it is a crucial key for every Christian marriage.
When Paul writes that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood,” he is reminding us that our spouse is never the real enemy.
In marriage, it is easy to see your partner as the problem when conflict arises – their words, their actions, or even their silence may hurt. But Scripture reveals that there is a deeper, unseen battle taking place.
The devil hates Godly marriages because they reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:25-32).
What This Means Practically
1. Your Spouse is Not the Enemy
When tempers flare or misunderstandings happen, pause and remember: the real battle is not between husband and wife. satan wants division, bitterness, and broken trust.
Recognising this shifts your focus from attacking each other to fighting together as a team against the real adversary.
2. Recognise the Spiritual Agenda
Spiritual “principalities and powers” target marriages with pride, unforgiveness, lust, selfishness, and emotional distance. When you notice patterns of repeated conflict or temptations designed to divide you, discern that these may be spiritual attacks meant to derail your union.
3. Put On the Whole Armour of God
Paul continues in Ephesians 6 to instruct believers to wear the armour of God - truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, the Word of God, and prayer. These are your weapons in marriage.
Pray together, declare Scripture over your home, and cover your spouse in intercession daily.
4. Respond with Grace, Not Flesh
Since the fight is spiritual, carnal weapons like shouting, revenge, or silent treatment cannot win it. Instead, respond with the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22 - 23): patience, gentleness, and self-control. This disarms the enemy’s schemes and invites the presence of God.
5. Fight Together, Not Apart
Unity is a powerful weapon. When you hold hands and pray together, you invite heaven’s power into your situation. Matthew 18:19 reminds us that if two agree on earth as touching anything they ask, it shall be done by the Father.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, open our eyes to see that we are not each other’s enemies. Teach us to fight the good fight of faith together, standing in unity against every scheme of the enemy. Cover our marriage with Your armour, and let Your peace rule in our hearts and home. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

- God's design for marriage was that it would be a ministry. There's a lot of unlearning to be done around what marriage is, if we are to see more successful unions, for God's glory.
