BECOME AN OAK OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

There is a difference between a Christian who has deep roots and one who has no roots.

Ephesians 4 talks about people being tossed around by every wind of doctrine. That happens when people have no root. When false teaching comes, when confusion comes, when somebody introduces something new, they simply move with it.

But if you have allowed yourself to take root deeply, when the winds come and shake you, you will stand.

Isaiah 61:3 says they will be called “oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor.”

Think about an oak tree. Its roots are massive. The part you see above the ground has an extensive root system underneath the ground.

Now compare that with a maize plant.

A maize plant grows quickly but has shallow roots. In about three months, you harvest it. An oak tree can survive for decades. These are two completely different plants.

So the question is: What kind of Christian do you want to be?

Do you want to be a maize-plant Christian, or do you want to be an oak of righteousness?

What does it take to become an oak?

Look at the size of the seed. Look at the space the tree needs to grow. Look at how long it takes. You have to understand that deep things take time and effort to develop, and that is what makes them last.

This is why teaching matters.

The first three centuries of the apostolic era were filled with people whose roots went deep. The apostles taught people, and those people taught others, and those people taught others. There was a continuity of teaching.

When falsehoods started coming up, Paul challenged them. Peter challenged them. Jude challenged them. James challenged them. They were not afraid to point out error.

They knew what they had received.

John could say, in effect, that they had seen, heard and handled the Word of Life. Peter could speak as someone who had seen the sufferings of Christ.

Their confidence came from what they had received and experienced.

That is what deep roots produce.

When the wind comes, you cannot stop it. Your focus should be on making sure your roots are deep.

Doctrine is happening.

You don’t have to learn in English for it to be doctrine. You can learn in your native language. You are still being taught.

To indoctrinate means to put teaching into someone until it affects their actions, choices, decisions and thinking. That is what teaching does. So when people say, “Don’t indoctrinate me,” where are they going to go? Life is full of indoctrination. If you are sitting in front of a television or a screen, you are being taught something.

The real question is: Who is indoctrinating you?

It had better be God. It had better be the Word of God that is putting teaching into you. Because if Satan is indoctrinating you, with time you will become like Satan.

That is why definitions matter.

People throw words around and assume everybody understands them. Someone may say, “All of you know what grace means.” No, we don’t. You cannot assume that everybody knows what a word means.

It took me years to understand what grace meant. We throw around words, but words have meaning. And if you want to know the meaning, you must go to the source.

When God said it, what did He mean?

That is the meaning. It is not what you think it means. It is not what your church group thinks it means. It is not what your denomination says it means.

Definitions matter. It does because it defines what we become.

HOW FAITH WORKS

Matthew 8:5–13

When you receive an order, you lock the door to civilian thinking. All you need to know is: “I am obeying what I was told.”

If you are told to stand in a place — why are you standing there? “I was told to stand here.” Or, why haven't you left? “They told me not to leave until I've done it.” That's it.

Your friends can make you disobey. Your brethren can make you disobey. When they cause you to abandon what you were instructed to do, you have entangled yourself with civilian matters.

You ought to be around fellow soldiers who will keep you up and doing.

THE NATURE OF A SOLDIER IS TO DIE

Rule number two is the inevitability of risk.

A soldier signs himself into a situation of permanent death risk. The day he enlisted, he was agreeing to something.

Romans 8:36 says, “For your sake we face death all day long.”

Did you agree to be a soldier? Yes. That means you agreed to die.

The word soldier and death go hand in hand. You cannot say, “You can't send me to this place. How can I go to Sambisa? That's not what I signed up for.”

If you're a soldier, you go where you're sent. You don't get to choose which assignment is comfortable enough for you.

That is the problem with a Christianity where nothing is dying and nothing is at risk of dying. Your Christianity is too safe. You lose nothing. That is why some people cannot go on to become soldiers.

When some of you first came here, we started collecting things from you. You had a girlfriend or boyfriend, and you knew it was sinful. It had to go.

When you gave it up, you died. That was a small death. Then you gave up something else. Then something else. All that dying is part of becoming a soldier. It is the nature of soldiers to die.

The problem is that some people get to a certain level and say, “Enough dying. I'm not dropping anything again.” That is when you left your commission as a soldier.

There are people who were once soldiers, but they are no longer soldiers. They just kept the uniform.

How can you come to a place where you don't obey instructions anymore and still call yourself a soldier?There is no soldier like that.

Soldiers retire. Maybe you're a retired soldier, and that is a big problem in the body of Christ: many retired soldiers are pretending to still be soldiers, telling stories about their soldiering days.

“I remember in 1992…”

Yes. You remember when you were a soldier. But you are no longer a soldier. You were meant to remain a soldier.

Your flesh may have to die. Your comfort may have to die. Your pride may have to die. Your reputation may have to die. God may take all kinds of things from you.

If you say, “No, don't touch it,” don't tell me you're under authority. You are not. Your uniform is just a costume. It is not the real deal.

I hope this blesses someone enough to make you reconsider your position in The Lord.....the other 5 were still virgins....but their lamps were dying because they had run out of oil....they needed fresh oil and they went for it nut alas it was too late.

Bible says they were foolish ....they didn't take extra oil and they didn't allow others to sharpen them....they just left the place where they were waiting for The Bride .... Think about it.

5. Just before he married her, he told her
God had sent him to LIBERATE THE Worlds (while he was still hopping between jobs)
and went on to resign his job; his elder
brother lambasted him, she stuck to him.

6. He told her God had shown him the key
to prosperity - she believed.

7. He told her they would build a 50,000
capacity tent and preach the gospel from
private jets - she believed her dreamer lover.

8. He was too ‘buoyant’ to afford a hotel
room on his wedding eve, he slept in his
rickety Volkswagen beetle – she married
him.

9. During a moment of insane faith, he
ordered a mad man to be put in his car
alone with her while she was pregnant; she
remained.

10. She saw she was dripping blood while
pregnant and explained to him that she had
a miscarriage, he shouted “It CANNOT
Happen, can I have my food please” – she
served him food.

11. She just had their first baby and there
was no food or money at home. He refused
to borrow or ask or take from church
money and they were drinking/eating
“CERELAC Baby food’ for 3 days – she ate
with him.

12. She came to church one day and saw
him so excited with few members while
waiting for service to start; he explained to
her that service was actually over – she
laughed.

13. People kept praying for her and her
husband as they seemed to be crazy and
needed deliverance-she kept faith.

14. He announced a new Bible school and
she knew there was no facility; she asked
him and he replied “Is it your school”? She
kept quiet.
BUT SHE DIDN'T KNOW…

15. She didn't know they were going to be
flying in customized jets round the world.

16. She didn’t know he would pastor and
she, co-pastor the largest church auditorium in the world.

17. She didn’t know he would be a father to millions all over the world.

18. She didn’t know he would be hosted by
Presidents and Heads of States of nations.

19. She didn’t know he would be a
Chancellor and Pioneer of one of the best
Private Universities in the world…..and
others.

20. She woke up one day on her sick bed in the USA and unexpectedly saw her hubby who had flown in quietly from Nigeria and had refused to wake her up…..he was kneeling on the floor by her legs and crying ‘Lord, heal her and prove that you sent me”- She got healed miraculously…more than once!
All she saw was a Man with A BIG GOD
inside him.

21. She said to her husband 'Honey,we need to change the school of this children'. The school is no longer what it used to be.
Parents are complaining and they aren't

A soldier doesn't negotiate.

2 Timothy 2:3 says, “Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.”

Nobody likes suffering. But if you're going to be a good soldier, know there is no good soldier who hasn't suffered. In fact, some soldiers don't survive the battle.

What kind of soldier are you?

Someone was telling me about the discipline of a soldier. A soldier can be lying in a bush, and a snake starts crawling over him. A soldier can hide in the mud for hours when the enemies are around waiting for his chance to escape. What do you do?

You don't just jump up because you are uncomfortable. If you are hidden and on a mission, you lie still. The snake crawls past.

That is why you should respect soldiers. There is something that suffering produces in someone.

When a soldier says, “Bloody civilian,” this is what is going through his mind: You don't know what it means to be told to jump in any direction and do it.

You don't know what it means to be given an instruction and obey it without questions.

A soldier doesn't say, “Please, it's 2:00 a.m. I want to go and sleep now.”

Little persecution hits you, and you run. Then you disobey the rules you were given.

You can't pray your way into being a soldier. You obey your way into it. And I can assure you, there will be suffering.

So when the instruction from God comes, don't negotiate with it.

You don't get to decide which parts of soldiering you like and which parts you don't.

If you are a soldier, you obey without questioning, without delay irrespective of the danger around. If the order has been given, obedience becomes a must..... Be a good soldier.

YOU HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO SERVE GOD

In Luke 19, the servants were each given one mina. The point is that each of them received the same thing. That is important because it speaks about something that all Christians have. The Holy Spirit.

In another account, Matthew 25, one was given one, another two and another five. That was not equal because it was speaking about something different. But in Luke 19, they were each given the same mina.

The Holy Spirit is what every Christian has received. And what you do with what has been given to you is up to you.

Jesus said, “You shall receive power” — DUNAMIS — “when The Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses.”

So you have enough power to be a witness.

You have enough power to share God's Word. You have enough power to tell people things. You have enough power to lead multiple people to Christ daily.

You do not need a platform. It is inside you. The issue is usage.

One of the things that became increasingly serious to me as the years went by was realizing that you can have grace inside you and choose whether or not to use it for someone.

Think about what that means. You may be able to help someone, but you can decide not to. You may have something God has given you that could be used to serve another person, but if you refuse to use it, that person does not receive what you could have given.

That is why you must stop looking at yourself as though you have nothing.

You have been given something. You have The Holy Spirit. You have power to serve God.

You have opportunities to share God's Word, to witness and to minister to people. But you have to use what you have been given.

You cannot keep waiting for a platform before you serve God. You cannot keep thinking that you need to become known everywhere before you can be useful.

The power is already inside you. The question is what you are going to do with it.

YOU HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO SERVE GOD

In Luke 19, the servants were each given one mina. The point is that each of them received the same thing. That is important because it speaks about something that all Christians have. The Holy Spirit.

In another account, Matthew 25, one was given one, another two and another five. That was not equal because it was speaking about something different. But in Luke 19, they were each given the same mina.

The Holy Spirit is what every Christian has received. And what you do with what has been given to you is up to you.

Jesus said, “You shall receive power” — DUNAMIS — “when The Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses.”

So you have enough power to be a witness.

You have enough power to share God's Word. You have enough power to tell people things. You have enough power to lead multiple people to Christ daily.

You do not need a platform. It is inside you. The issue is usage.

One of the things that became increasingly serious to me as the years went by was realizing that you can have grace inside you and choose whether or not to use it for someone.

Think about what that means. You may be able to help someone, but you can decide not to. You may have something God has given you that could be used to serve another person, but if you refuse to use it, that person does not receive what you could have given.

That is why you must stop looking at yourself as though you have nothing.

You have been given something. You have The Holy Spirit. You have power to serve God.

You have opportunities to share God's Word, to witness and to minister to people. But you have to use what you have been given.

You cannot keep waiting for a platform before you serve God. You cannot keep thinking that you need to become known everywhere before you can be useful.

FAITH THE INGREDIENT FOR A SUCCESSFUL WALK WITH GOD

Faith is accepting what God says and acting accordingly even when the corresponding situation does not agree.

YOUR POWER TO COMMAND LIES IN WHO SENT YOU

The power to command does not lie in you. It lies in who sent you.

This is something you have to understand if you are going to serve God properly. Sometimes you look at yourself and think, “Who am I to do this?”

You look at your size, your background, your experience, your weaknesses, and you conclude that you are too small for what God is asking you to do. That is the wrong way to look at it.

Think about a soldier. When a soldier gives a command, it is not because the soldier is personally powerful. The authority behind the command comes from the one who sent him and the position he has been assigned to occupy. The soldier is simply standing in his place and carrying out the command.

That is why you cannot keep looking at yourself as “small me.” You have been given something by God. You have been sent by God. You have been given the Holy Spirit. You have been given opportunities to serve Him.

Even when God gives you something that sounds impossible, do not look down on what is possible with Him. God can do anything.

If the Holy Spirit tells you to ask for something, then ask. Even if you are struggling internally because what you are asking sounds ridiculous to you, remember that your God is trustworthy.

You have to stop seeing yourself below what God tells you that you are.

God does not want you to walk around thinking, “Poor me. Small me.” That is not humility. If He has assigned you a place, then stand in that place. If He has given you something to do, then do it.

Your power to command does not originate from your personality, your appearance, your intelligence or your natural strength. It lies with God.

Stop measuring the assignment by yourself. Look at the One who sent you, and stand where He has placed you.

You can and you are able for He Himself Is your Cover and Guarantee.

STOP SPREADING YOURSELF OUTSIDE YOUR CALLING

Some people become excited because they are becoming known in many places. They want to be global. They want to be everywhere. They want to spread themselves as far as possible.

But have you asked God how far He actually sent you?

Jesus is the Son of God. He came from heaven to earth, yet He never went outside His scope of duty. His assignment was focused. He did not spend His ministry trying to become known everywhere.

When some Greeks came looking for Him, Jesus did not suddenly change His assignment because people from another group wanted access to Him. He knew His time had come, and He went toward the purpose for which He had come.

This is something people in ministry need to understand.

God may give you a local assignment, but you may want an international platform. He may send you to a city, but you want to be known across nations. He may give you a specific people to serve, but you keep spreading yourself because you want recognition.

You can spread yourself so widely that you dry up.

Think about water. When water is together, it remains. But if you spread the same amount of water over a large area, eventually it dries up.

The same thing can happen with your assignment. You take the resources you should be using to serve the people God actually gave you, and you spend them travelling everywhere, looking for platforms and trying to become known.

If the internet makes your message reach places you did not physically go, let God handle that.

But there is a difference between God spreading what He gave you and you forcing yourself into places He did not send you.

Ask God where He sent you. Then stay within the scope of your assignment.

THE CENTURION UNDERSTOOD AUTHORITY

The Roman centurion understood something about authority that many people around Jesus had not understood.

He came to Jesus because his servant was sick. Jesus was willing to go to his house, but the centurion sent a message saying that Jesus did not need to come.

He understood that Jesus could simply speak from where He was, and the servant would be healed.

Why did he believe this?

He explained it through his own experience of authority. He said, "For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me."

He understood that because he was under authority, he also had authority over others. He could tell one soldier to go, and the soldier went. He could tell another to do something, and the soldier did it.

His authority did not come merely from the volume of his voice. When he spoke, there was an entire authority behind him.

That is what he recognized in Jesus.

The centurion understood that Jesus was also under authority. There was something behind Jesus, because Jesus Himself was under someone.

1 Corinthians 11:3 says, "the head of Christ is God."

This is a key principle: because you are under authority, you can have authority over what is under you.

The centurion understood this naturally because his daily life was built around authority. Jesus saw his understanding and marveled at his faith.

This is why authority is not merely about commanding things. You must first understand what it means to be under authority.

If you do not know your head, you cannot properly operate in what has been placed under you.
