"I have heard that you have prayed to me concerning King Saherib of Anura." 2 Kings 19:20

When Hidiah was king of Judah, the mighty Assyrian king Sheherib gathered a large army against them and sent his commander Reshachi to demand that Israel surrender. Reshachi went and taunted their God and threatened them so that they would surrender to Sheherib. Then King Hezekiah prayed to God, saying, “O Lord, the God of Israel... Please listen and hear; open your eyes, O Lord, and see; listen to all the words that Sheherib has sent to taunt the living God.”

Now, O Lord, please save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, O Lord, are God alone.” 2 Kings 19:14-19

Then he sent to Isaiah the prophet and told him all these things. Then Isaiah the prophet sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: ‘You have prayed to me concerning King Shaerib of Assyria, and I have heard you. Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city, nor shall he cast a siege rampart here, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a siege ramp against it. By the same way that he came, by the same he shall return, and he shall not come into this city, says the Lord. For I will be a shield to this city for my own sake, and for the sake of my servant David.” 2 Kings 20:34

How did God answer Hezekiah's prayer? He sent an angel that night who went into the camp of the Assyrians and killed 185,000 soldiers. When the people got up in the morning, they were all dead bodies.
    2 Kings 19:35.

"Samuel cried to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him." 1 Sam 7:9

The Philistines were the main enemies of Israel. They attacked Israel whenever they had a chance. One day, when Samuel had gathered all the children of Israel at Mizpah to sanctify and teach them, the Philistines suddenly came up to fight against them. When the children of Israel heard this, they were very afraid and begged Samuel, saying, "Cry to God for us so that we may be saved."

The children of Israel did not come prepared for battle. Moreover, even if they were prepared, the military strength of the Philistines was much greater than theirs. Therefore, the Israelites should have been afraid. But they did not try to declare peace with the Philistines out of fear, or they did not flee this way and that and scatter, but they used the power of prayer. Samuel was their judge and prophet at that time; so they came to him and asked him to pray. And Samuel offered a burnt offering and offered a heartfelt prayer to the Lord. What happened as a result of this prayer? God disturbed the Philistines with a loud thunder. All the powers of the solar system trembled. There was such a thunder that the Philistines began to flee for their lives. Would they then fight? They were in a situation where they were in a state of 'save your life'. But they did not escape even if they fled. Meanwhile, the children of Israel prepared for battle and struck them with a great blow. Prayer has the power that even kings and emperors cannot do with their own strength.

"And Eli looked upon her face, while Hannah prayed before the Lord." 1 Samuel 1:12

Hannah had no children because she was barren. Who else but Hannah would understand how miserable it is to be barren in a married life? But she believed in God and in His great power. So she decided to pray to God without ceasing. Eli was the priest at the temple of God in Shiloh. One day Hannah went to the temple and prayed and wept before the Lord for a long time. She was praying in her heart, but her lips were moving. She prayed so long and so passionately that Eli thought she might be drunk with wine.

The difference between traditional and formal prayer and emotional prayer can be clearly understood from that incident. Although Eli was a priest of God, he never entered the life of prayer. The prayer and worship he did in the temple was habitual. And those who came to the temple to pray would pray habitually. Eli the priest's idea of prayer was not above this. But Hannah's prayer was not a habitual prayer. She came to understand God with deep faith. The desire to have children had become so strong in her life that she did not pay attention to anything else. What people would think if she prayed long or prayed with tears, or what Eli the priest would think, these thoughts did not exist in her life. True spiritual prayer is not comparable to all of these. Hannah's situation was also like that. Therefore, a great work was accomplished in her prayer. The blocked uterus was freed. Hannah conceived. Blessed be the name of the Lord!

"He makes the barren woman a wife, a joyful mother of children." Psalm 113:9.

"And Isaac prayed unto the LORD for his wife, because she was barren. And the LORD heard his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived." Genesis 25:21

There is no specific list of what can be accomplished through prayer. We have seen before that mountains can be moved by prayer, the heavens can be closed, prison doors can be opened, the dead can be raised, etc. There is no limit to the power of prayer. In short, whatever needs to be done to reveal the glory and honor of God can be done. The Lord Jesus also has abundant promises in this regard. In John 16:23, He says, "Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father for in my name, he will give it to you."

When the bride was chosen for Isaac, Rebekah was chosen according to God's will. But after their marriage, Rebekah was found to be barren. Rebekah spent about 20 years in barrenness. This incident must have been a great test for Isaac and Rebekah.

God promised Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky (Genesis 15:5) and that his descendants would be called Isaac (Genesis 21:12). Isaac must have known about this promise. Again, God had chosen Rebekah; yet it was evident that Rebekah was barren. So how could God's promise be fulfilled?

Abraham also had the same problem with Sarah. Sarah was also barren (Genesis 11:30). Rachel, whom Jacob first loved, was also barren (Genesis 19:31). But through the great power of prayer, all three women were able to conceive.

"The barren woman gave birth to seven sons, but the one who had many sons became weak." 1 Samuel 2:5.

"When he had thus spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth." And the dead man came forth. John 11 : 43

Lazarus, the beloved disciple of the Lord Jesus, had been dead for four days in the grave. He had begun to rot and was filled with worms. He went to the tomb and called out, "Lazarus, come out," and he came out dead. What a wonderful power of prayer! His flesh was certainly dead, but the Lord Jesus gave Lazarus life.

Many may think that the Lord Jesus was God Himself and had His own power to save Lazarus; that is why that work was possible.

It is true that He was the Son of God and had His own power. But if we look closely at this incident, we see that He did not use His own power to save Lazarus, but prayed. For before He saved Lazarus, it is written, “He lifted up His eyes and said, Father, I thank Thee, that Thou hast heard My prayer.” John 11:41. So He prayed to God the Father to restore Lazarus to life. Although He was the Son of God and had many powers, yet He had all the feelings of human life because He took on a body of flesh. Hebrews 4:15 says, “He was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” He had thirst, hunger, and weariness. All the temptations of the flesh came upon Him; but He remained connected to the Father and prayed all the time. Hebrews 5:7 says, “In the days of his flesh he offered up prayers and supplications to his Father, with strong crying and tears.” So he raised Lazarus as a human being. This is a great proof of the power of prayer.

"And I have chosen you, that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you."
    John 15: 16 .
