Im teaching verse by verse through the writings of the Apostle John in our adult Sunday school class. Started last February and we will finish chapter 8 in his Gospel next Sunday. There is such a depth of spiritual knowledge in the writings of Christ's last living disciple. Plan on hitting his 3 epistles or Revelation after completing his Gospel. Amazing stuff! God bless!

He could've come as a conquering king and that is what the religious elite were expecting.
They were expecting the Messiah to cast the yoke of Rome off the backs of Jewish people. But His plan was much grander. He would instead bring light and salvation to this despairing dark world. To the Jew first, then to the gentile.
He brought hope as the Child in the manger and He would bring forgiveness to the whole world at the cross. Conquering death, hell and the grave at His resurrection!
He offers every person the precious gift of salvation. All anyone need do is receive it!
No works are required to gain entrance to heaven. "It is finished!" He cried. The work has been done!

The longer I journey in this world of sin and death the more I find myself, like Abraham who was "Looking for a city that has foundations, whose builder and maker is God".
I don't want to be like the religious elite who didn't recognise His First coming. I'm watching and waiting. He's coming back soon!
