- Live the Word, Not Just Hear It
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." — James 1:22
Being in God's presence—whether in the fellowship of believers or in the solitude of our secret place—is a beautiful and commendable pursuit. Listening to His Word is even more precious. Yet, all of this becomes fruitless if, after hearing the Word, our lives remain unchanged.
It is a sobering thought: if after receiving the Word, our conduct mirrors that of unbelievers, what then distinguishes us as followers of Christ? What truly makes one a believer? Remember, even the devil believes in the existence of God (James 2:19). Mere belief is not enough. True faith is evidenced by obedience—by living according to His Word.
To hear the Word and not live it is to remain a stranger to the commonwealth of God's Kingdom. Such a life brings no delight to the Father. God is not pleased with those who choose to hear without transformation.
So, let us cease being passive hearers. Let the Word of God penetrate our hearts, shape our thoughts, and transform our actions. Study it. Meditate on it. Live it. For in doing so, we become friends of the Lord (John 15:14), and we unlock the promise: “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” -John 15:7
