I am a South African author, investigator and strategic thinker whose life and career have taken me through military intelligence, analytical science, leadership and social inquiry.

I was originally trained as an Army intelligence officer and later as an analytical chemist. That unusual combination has shaped the way I see the world: I am fascinated by evidence, human behaviour, systems, truth and the often-uncertain space between what we believe and what is actually happening.

I am the founder of D’Nial & Sleuthdog, through which I work on complex problems involving leadership, integrity, organisational systems and social change. I am particularly interested in asking better questions, because I believe better questions lead to better understanding—and ultimately to better decisions.

I am also an author and scholar, exploring human behaviour, deception, ethics and the difference between who we are and who we perform.

My Christian faith is an important part of my journey. For me, faith is inseparable from the pursuit of truth, integrity, courage and service. I am less interested in having all the answers than in having the courage to keep asking difficult questions—and the humility to change my mind when the evidence demands it.

I describe myself as a scholar, investigator and disruptor. At heart, I am a curious man trying to understand people, systems and the world we have created—and to find ways of making them better.
