“Grace in the Midst of Fear”
Introduction
Genesis 43 continues the story of Joseph’s brothers returning to Egypt. The famine has grown severe, and the food they bought earlier is gone. Jacob must now face his fear of losing Benjamin, his youngest son.
The chapter reveals the tension between fear and faith — between holding on and letting go. Through these events, God is working to heal old wounds and bring reconciliation. The message is simple yet powerful: when we surrender what we fear losing most, God’s grace flows freely.

Lesson: Sometimes God allows pressures to rise so that we must face what we’ve been avoiding.
Verses 6–10 – Judah’s Plea
Jacob blames his sons for revealing Benjamin’s existence, but Judah offers himself as a guarantee for
Benjamin’s safety.
Lesson: True repentance leads to responsibility. Judah, who once sold Joseph, now offers his own life to
protect his brother.
Verses 11–14 – Jacob’s Reluctant Surrender
Jacob finally agrees to send Benjamin, instructing them to take gifts and double the money to return what was found in their sacks. He prays, “May God Almighty grant you mercy before the man.”
Lesson: Faith often means surrendering what’s most precious into God’s hands. Trust is proven through
release, not control.
Verses 15–17 – The Brothers Return to Egypt
The brothers arrive with Benjamin. When Joseph sees them, he tells his steward to prepare a feast.
Lesson: God’s grace often surprises us. What we fear as judgment may turn out to be favor.

The brothers fear Joseph will punish them for the money found in their sacks, so they try to explain
themselves.

Verses 23–25 – Peace and Provision
Joseph’s steward comforts them, saying, “Your God and the God of your father has given you treasure in your sacks.” They are brought water to wash their feet and food for their donkeys.

Verses 26–30 – Joseph Meets Benjamin
When Joseph sees Benjamin, he is overcome with emotion and leaves the room to weep privately. His love for his family remains deep despite their betrayal.
