Hi.
My name is Joshua McCormick.

I am half white/half Colombian. I speak Spanish.

I am a U.S. Air Force Veteran. I served four years in Security Forces. I was in Germany and Cyprus.

I have also traveled to Colombia and Ireland to visit family.

I am a High School History Teacher; certified in World History, U.S. History, Oklahoma History, Geography, Economics, and Government.
My final goal in education is to become an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) for my masters. I can be a councelor in school and outside of school.

I am also a missionary. I've been to Mexico twice and Vietnam twice on mission trips. My main missions goal is to get to Haiti. I am trying to raise support.

I am part of a team of missionaries called Hope Beyond Borders led by Pastor Winston Bui. Our sister organization is Impactful Missions led by Elisha Chan. We provide food, rice, beans, and oil to the hungry. We have a school in Haiti and sponsor children. We currently have K -2nd grades but are adding more buildings to support future grades. We also have a Women's clinic for pre and post natal health. Our Healthy Women's Instiative takes care of expecting mothers. We have a place for missionaries to stay, sleep, and eat at. We also do missions trainings there as well. It is called Theo's Place. It is named after the close friend of Luke of whom the Book of Acts is addressed to. Theophilus was a major supporter of missions in the early church.

If you would like to support me directly as a missionary, I have launched a GoFund Me campaign to go to my first trip to Haiti. There you will find a ton of information about what I do and what my team is doing in Haiti. There are links to all our websites and citations for information about Haiti.

Thank you and may the Lord Bless You!

  • 2 Timothy 2:1-2 NLT
[1] Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. [2] You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.

    This is my calling.

In context, this passage is directly speaking to Timothy.

Its also speaking to me spiritually and telling me who I am and what my purpose is in the Kingdom of God.

That I am to make disciples. But the Lord is telling me to add psychology and counceling to ministry.

It isn't just lead someone to Christ but to fully invest in that person's life.

    It isn't religion, its everything.

To help with not just the spiritual, but physical, mental, and emotional as well.

In education, it can be referred to as teaching the whole student. It isn't just to support a student's mind but also to support academically, emotionally, and cognitively. Teachers then foster growth in social-emotional well-being, personal passions, and mental health.

To truly be effective as a mentor/teacher/councelor, is to have empathy towards those you teach. You must know their struggles, passions, dreams, and goals. You listen carefully to what is happening in their life. Then you model for them a solution. You can lead by example. But never judging. Only correcting if its a serious choice that is dangerous or toxic or detrimental to their health and well-being.

I always offer many solutions to help people. Without finger pointing, I bring up both real world and practical positive and negative consequences for any choice that is taken or could be taken. A good councelor either knows, understands, or seeks out all possible outcomes.
The likelihood of success depends on multiple factors depending on the situation. Understanding the probability of both success and failure in a choice comes from experience, education, and is a type of discernment in itself.

    So I found a term:
Psychologically Informed Discipleship. Another is Trauma Informed Discipleship.

    Here's a definition.

Psychologically informed discipleship merges spiritual formation with psychological insights to foster holistic growth, acknowledging that mental health and emotional well-being are integral to spiritual maturity. It emphasizes creating safe, relational environments that address emotional hurdles, trauma, and personal history to help individuals move from brokenness to relational maturity and deeper connection with Christ.

But there seems to be alot of current research on the subject in Academia.

    For example:

"Christian Education Journal: Research on Educational Ministry Volume 21, Issue 1
    June 13th, 2024

How the Church Can Heal: Healing Intergenerational Trauma Through Trauma-Informed Discipleship."

The abstract touches upon "transmission of physical, emotional, psychological, cultural, and historical wounds from one generation to another" @1

This comes from ones environment by a parent or culture that they are in. Other factors are at play too. But trauma is why many Christians and people in general are broken. If they don't get their whole self fixed then they may stagnate in their life and it may affect their faith. Then they may lose it. Also religious wounds and toxic traditions is a cause of many to lose faith. That's a different subject but is one of the areas that I will address in my ministry.

So this isn't some brand new thing or made up idea. There is a whole way of thinking that many have in the past explored to fully help people.

    This is the way.

    This is my calling.

  • James 4:1-5 NLT
1 What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? 2 You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. 3 And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. 4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. 5 Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him.
