OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: TUESDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER 2026 TOPIC: THE CONSUMING FIRE MEMORIZE: "Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee." Deuteronomy 9:3 (KJV) BIBLE READING: NUMBERS 11:1-3 1 And when the people complained, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp. 2 And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the Lord, the fire was quenched. 3 And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the Lord burnt among them. MESSAGE: I have been privileged to see God at work on numerous occasions, and I honestly love Him deeply. Besides this, however, I must also tell you that I fear Him. I know that some theologians say that we are not supposed to fear God; rather, we are to reverence Him. However, one of the attributes of the Almighty God is that He is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24, Hebrews 12:29). African elders say that even a mad dog recognises fire. This is why anyone in their right senses will not joke with God, because if a fellow toys with fire, he or she will most likely get burnt. One of the amazing things about having the Consuming Fire as a Father is that His fire is like a wall that protects His children and destroys their enemies at the same time. Zechariah 2:5 says that God is a wall of fire round about His people and the glory in their midst. In Exodus 13:18-22, when God led the Israelites out of Egypt, He went before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. While that pillar of fire gave His children light, warmth, and direction, Exodus 14:24-25 says that the Lord looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the same pillar and troubled their host. The pillar of fire did not relent until it led the children of Israel safely to the other side of the Red Sea, while their enemies all lost their lives in the sea. In today's memory verse, Moses told the Israelites to understand that the Lord had gone before them as a consuming fire to destroy their enemies. I pray for you today that in the name above all other names, the Consuming Fire will destroy every obstacle in your path, in Jesus' name. I must sound this note of warning that even though God's fire of destruction is not meant for His children, they can experience it if they allow sin in their lives. In today's Bible reading, when the children of Israel, who should have been praising and thanking God in the wilderness, complained, the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some of them. Beloved, avoid sin in any form, including murmuring or complaining. Instead, dedicate yourself to living a life of holiness (1 Peter 1:16) and, in all things, give thanks to God for this is His will concerning you (1 Thessalonians 5:18). MESSAGE: I had a friend who was a brilliant judge. Though we were close, he had one weakness - pride. Many years ago, I was travelling to Abuja, and I saw him coming out of the plane I was going to board with two people standing to his left and right. I approached him to greet him warmly, but he just looked at me and said, "Who is this?" I replied, "Hello, it's me, Adeboye, your friend." Then, one of the people standing by him whispered to me, "He has lost his memory." I was told that he couldn't remember who he was or even recognise any of his children. Everything was gone just like that. Anyone who allows pride into his or her heart will suffer the same fate as the devil. Today's Bible reading tells us that he was full of wisdom, perfect in beauty, and in his ways until iniquity was found in him. That iniquity was revealed in verse 17: his heart was lifted up because of his beauty, and he corrupted his wisdom because of his brightness. Pride was found in him, and, as expected, it led to his downfall. God desires to share His wisdom and brilliance with men, but many times, people don't last in the lofty positions He places them in because of pride. Isaiah 14:12-19 tells us how Lucifer became proud: he wanted to exalt himself above God. In those few verses, the word 'I' is repeated many times. This is one way to tell if you are becoming proud or not. When life becomes all about you, your achievements, the things you can do, how you are better than others, and why why you must be honoured and exalted, then pride has already crept into your heart. If that is the case, you must repent immediately because pride has only one agenda in people's lives: to bring them down (Proverbs 16:18). Beloved, you must recognise that there is a God who can lift you up and also bring you down. You must also recognise that it is not by strength that any man prevails. Lamentations 3:22 says that it is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed. It is because of His mercy that you and I are still here. If you are humble, God will give you grace. Daniel 4:36 Romans 1:28 says that because some people chose not to retain God in their knowledge, He gave them over to a reprobate mind to do things which are not convenient. When people refuse to acknowledge God’s power, might, and authority over all of creation, they begin to act like animals or even worse. For example, in recent times, we have seen men who call themselves women and have even gone as far as surgically removing their private parts so that they can appear as women, and some women doing likewise. People who engage in such depraved behaviour have failed to retain God in their knowledge and have been giver over to reprobate minds. Beloved, acknowledge God in all your ways and shun pride. Those who allow pride in any form into their hearts are only giving the devil a chance to destroy them. KEY POINT: Pride debases people and makes them think and act like animals. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: SATURDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER 2026 TOPIC: NEVER GIVE UP, PART 2 MEMORIZE: "Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;" 2 Corinthians 4:1 (KJV) BIBLE READING: ISAIAH 40:27-31 27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the Lord, and my judgment is passed over from my God? 28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. 29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. MESSAGE: Yesterday, I encouraged you not to give up on your God-given dreams. Today, I would like to show you that even if it appears as if your dreams can no longer come to pass, God can revive and restore them by His mercy. In Matthew 4:12, Jesus promised to make Peter a fisher of men if he followed Him. Peter followed Jesus for three and a half years, but after Jesus was crucified, he returned to fishing. Thankfully, Jesus Christ, in His infinite mercy, visited him in John 21:15-17 and restored him to the path of his destiny by telling him, "Peter, feed my lambs." Then, on the Day of Pentecost, as described in Acts 2:1-4, the Holy Spirit descended upon Peter and the others who were with him. The failed fisherman suddenly became someone who won 3,000 souls to Christ after one sermon (Acts 2:41). Before long, the same Peter was speaking boldly to the rulers of the land (Acts 4:8-13), and his shadow was healing the sick (Acts 5:15-16). If God could bring Peter back to the path of fulfilling his destiny, He can do the same for anyone who has given up on his or her dreams. At some points in our lives, we all feel weak and weary. I have also observed that people tend to feel tired and are often tempted to give up when they are on the verge of fulfilling their dreams. Don't let weariness or any sort of temptation make you abandon your dreams. Instead, at such points, cry out to God for mercy to uphold you and help you not to give up. Isaiah 40:29 says that He gives power to the faint, and to those who have no might, He increases strength. In 2 Corinthians 4:1, Paul said that as we receive mercy, we faint not. Mercy can keep you from fainting and giving up. It will keep you from turning your back on everything you have worked hard for at the edge of your breakthrough. Never allow weariness to overcome you; it was weariness that led Esau to despise his birthright (Genesis 25:29-34), and many still fall into similar costly mistakes today. Beloved, do you feel tired and ready to give up? Cry to God for mercy. Ask him for guidance, strength, and all the help you need to fulfil His will for your life. MESSAGE: Joseph is a good example of someone who never gave up despite the grave challenges that came his way. In Genesis 37:5-23, he had great dreams, but when he shared them with his brothers, they felt threatened. They conspired to kill him, but eventually agreed to sell him into slavery. This, however, did not distract Joseph. He knew he was destined for greatness, so he worked diligently until he became a leader among his fellow slaves. Then, the wife of his master tried to seduce him, and he refused her advances because he did not want to offend the God who gave him those great dreams (Genesis 39:9). He knew that as long as he didn't offend God, he would achieve his dreams. Later, the wife of his master lied against him, and he ended up in prison, where he also became a leader among his fellow prisoners. Eventually, after many years, God took him prisoners. from being a prisoner to becoming the Prime Minister of Egypt within a single day. One single move from God made his dreams become a reality. If God could promote a prisoner to such an exalted position, He can take you to any height you desire. In 1981, when I first became the General Overseer of the RCCG, I visited one of the few parishes we had in Lagos at the time. During my visit, a woman came to one of the programmes we held after it had concluded because she thought it was an evening programme. When she came, I had left; therefore, she fell on the ground crying, "God, now I know You don't want me to have a child." She had told herself that all she needed to do was set her eyes on the man of God, and she would conceive. When people asked her why she was crying, she explained, and they told her where I would be the next day. The next morning, she came to the venue I was in, and as soon as I got up to preach, she looked at me and said, "God, thank You." That month, she became pregnant because her faith touched God. She didn't give up on what she wanted. Beloved, don't give up. God's word to you will surely come to pass. If you hold on to the promises He has given you and continue to follow His leading, He will bring your dreams to a place of fulfilment according to His will, in Jesus' name. MESSAGE: The word 'minister in the olden days basically referred to a servant who ran all sorts of errands for his or her master. Such errands would often include emptying and washing the master's chamber pot, doing the master's laundry, washing his feet, and the like. While Moses was alive, Joshua was his minister, so you can imagine how shocking it must have been for the latter when God informed him that he was to become the leader of Israel after his master's demise. This is a good example of an accelerated and extraordinary promotion. The promotion was so sudden that Joshua became very anxious over the weight of his new responsibility. I know this because in today's Bible reading, God had to tell him three times to be strong and of good courage. I decree today that God will promote you in such a manner, in Jesus' name. Whenever I see people struggling for promotion and desiring to be in leadership positions, I know it is because they do not understand God's ways. God never gives accelerated and extraordinary promotions to the wise or the qualified. He never gives it to those who think they are brilliant enough to explain the scientific permutations behind His workings. He always uses the foolish and weak things to confound the wise and mighty things (1 Corinthians 1:27). Therefore, people who think they are strong and wise enough to work out their promotion should not expect accelerated and extraordinary promotions from God because He only accelerates the promotion of those who will never take His glory for themselves. On the day my wife and I got married at the marriage registry, we met a lady there who was dressed in a wedding gown. However, she wasn't with her groom; the man had abandoned her. The lady nearly ran mad, but she survived. After some time, she married a soldier. Unknown to her, the man who jilted her on their wedding day also joined the army. Then God moved. A military coup occurred, and her husband was made a military governor. Incidentally, the man who jilted her was assigned as her husband's aide-de-camp. Thus, anytime she wanted to enter a car, it was her former husband-to-be who would open the door for her since she was the wife of a military governor. Beloved, I decree today that God will accelerate your promotion, and all those who have been mocking you will be confounded, in Jesus' name. MESSAGE: Yesterday, I stated that steady promotion is good, but extraordinary promotion is better. Today, I want to discuss rapid and extraordinary promotions. Rapid and extraordinary promotions are great promotions that occur at an unusually high rate. For example, David was in the fields when Samuel sent for him and anointed him to be Israel's new king (1 Samuel 16:11-13). After that, it took over a decade before he became the king of Judah (2 Samuel 2:1-4). Another seven and a half years after that, he became king over the whole nation of Israel (2 Samuel 5:1-5). At first, he became a potential king, but then he ascended to become the king of Judah and ultimately the king of Israel. Elisha also experienced rapid and extraordinary promotions. He started as a farmer, but when God needed a successor for Elijah, heaven recruited him and gave him rapid speed (1 Kings 19:19-21). In (2 Kings 2:9-15), God promoted him, and he became one of the greatest prophets in the Old Testament. God used him to perform several mighty miracles, far more than his predecessor, with the last miracle occurring after his death (2 Kings 13:21). He was so great that in (2 Kings 2:19-22), he lifted a curse on Jericho, a city that had been under a curse since Joshua's time (Joshua 6:26). In (2 Kings 6:24-30), things got so bad in Samaria that women began to eat their children, but just one word from Elisha turned the situation around for good and brought economic liberation to the entire nation (2 Kings 7:1-16). Philip was another person in the Bible who experienced rapid and extraordinary promotions. In a short while, he moved from being just a member of the congregation to becoming a deacon (Acts 6:5), and then he was promoted again to become an evangelist who brought great joy to a whole city (Acts 8:5-8). His rapid promotion came as a result of the persecution of the church in Jerusalem, which caused many of the disciples to be scattered (Acts 8:3-4). This shows that sometimes, God will use what the enemy sends to destroy you as a means of promoting you. I have observed that when God sees that a believer has taken his or her walk with Him seriously, He shifts them from the realm of steady promotion to rapid and extraordinary promotion. Such persons will begin to experience promotions at an unprecedented speed. MESSAGE: Steady promotion happens when, if nothing goes wrong, and a fellow works diligently, he or she progresses to the next stage. After that, the fellow moves on to the next stage and continues to progress steadily. A great example of steady promotion can be seen in the case of Isaac in our Bible reading for today. There was a famine in the land, and things were really difficult. However, he obeyed God's instruction not to relocate, sowed in the land, and reaped a hundredfold return. He did not stop there; rather, he kept sowing and reaping until he waxed great. Things continued to progress steadily for him until he attained a very great height. Steady promotions are good because they represent a slow but steady ascent. Those who experience steady promotion move predictably from point A to B, to C, and then to point D. The challenge with steady promotion, however, is that it only increases by addition, while extraordinary promotion increases by multiplication. For example, when you keep adding 2 and 2, you will need to add a lot of 2s before you can get to 2,000, while on the other hand, if you were multiplying, you would arrive at 2,000 a lot faster. God desires for His children to progress from the realm of 'steady promotion' to that of 'extraordinary promotion' where they will experience exponential liftings that will cause people to marvel. For example, Joshua experienced steady promotion from serving as a servant to Moses (Exodus 33:11) to becoming a spy for Israel (Numbers 13:1-16). Later on, he experienced an extraordinary promotion and became Moses' appointed successor (Numbers 27:18-21) before eventually becoming the Commander of Israel (Joshua 1). God does not just want you to have life; He wants you to have it abundantly (John 10:10). He wants you to have much more than you currently do, and He wants to make you a thousand times more than you currently are (Deuteronomy 1:11). When something jumps from one to one thousand, it is no longer operating under natural laws of progression; rather, it is operating by exponential or supernatural laws. This is the pattern that God wants your promotion to follow. Beloved, my prayer for you is that you will begin to experience rapid and accelerated extraordinary promotions in all areas of your life, starting from today, in Jesus' name. Psalm 3:3 (KJV) BIBLE READING: 1 SAMUEL 2:7-9 7 The Lord maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. 8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the Lord's, and he hath set the world upon them. 9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. MESSAGE: When I was studying for my Master's degree, there was a young man who was working in a professor's office as a messenger. In those days, there were no mobile phones, so whenever someone called the office phone to speak with the professor, the boy would answer the phone first before taking it to the professor. Most times, however, whenever he answered the phone, the people on the other end of the call would say, "Prof," thinking it was the professor who had answered. After some time, the boy began to call himself 'Prof,' and people joined in, jokingly calling him the same. One day, he said to himself, "Hey, I know that people jokingly call me 'Prof, but I can really become a professor." By the time I left the University of Lagos as a lecturer, he was already studying for his PhD. Today's Bible reading says that God can lift beggars from the dunghill and sit them among princes. I can relate to this because I had no shoes for the first 18 years of my life, yet by God's special grace, I have met many heads of state and engaged in lengthy conversations with them. The same God who promoted me can also promote you, if you surrender all to Him. Some people experience what can be called 'normal' promotions in life. A good example of this is when people make steady progress in their careers. They might get salary increases once every year, and as they work hard, they get promoted once every five years. While this is good, I know that God has greater plans for His children. In John 10:10, Jesus said that He came to the earth that we might have life and have it more abundantly. God wants you to enjoy promotion that is beyond normal; He wants you to enjoy supernatural promotion. David was someone who experienced supernatural promotion. One day, he was on the field tending his father's sheep, and the next day, the Ultimate Promoter arranged for him to be anointed as a king (1 Samuel 16:11-13). Beloved, the key to experiencing supernatural promotion is to humble yourself before God and live in total obedience to Him. When you do this, He will exalt you in due time and crown your life with His glory (1 Peter 5:6). I pray that the Ultimate Promoter will give you a supernatural promotion before the end of this year, in Jesus' name. Just do what God asks wholeheartedly and promptly, then leave the rest to Him – that is all holiness is. It is an aberration for a person to be holy and die in poverty. That is why I do not focus on preaching about prosperity; instead, I focus on preaching about holiness. When you are truly holy, there will be times when God will give you instructions that will lead to receiving blessings from Him if you obey Him. However, anyone who decides to argue with God at such times will miss out on the blessing He has prepared for him or her. That is why David said in Psalm 37:25: I have been young and now am old; Yet have l not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. In today’s Bible reading, Jesus needed a boat to preach to the multitude of people who had gathered, as they wanted to hear the word of God from Him. He got into Peter’s boat and asked him to move a little away from the land. Peter’s response was, “Yes, Lord.” After the Lord finished His sermon, He turned to Peter and asked him to launch out into the deep. For lending his boat to the Lord, God wanted to reward Peter, and the reward came in a massive way. Before Jesus came on the scene, Peter was battling with failure and frustration; he had toiled all night and caught nothing. However, the moment he told Jesus ‘yes’ and released his boat to the Lord, he put himself in position for a windfall of God’s blessing. He caught so many fishes that his net broke. His blessing was so great that his neighbours partook in it; both Peter’s ship and his neighbours’ were so filled with fishes that they began to sink. Beloved, you cannot live a life of holiness, which can be seen through your obedience to God, and be frustrated or stranded. When you obey God in everything, He will respond by blessing you in every area of your life. He asked, "Do you want to be the best or the worst?" I told Him that I want to be the best. He asked further if I want to be the poorest or the richest, and I said that I want to be the richest. I have experienced being poor, and I can tell you that it is not good. For instance, for the first 18 years of my life, I had no pair of shoes because my parents could not afford any. Shortly after God asked me what kind of pastor I wanted to be, I was at a church gathering, and it was time to give our offerings. Suddenly, God repeated the question He had asked me earlier, and I replied, "The greatest, the best, and the richest." Then, He said, "Give Me the biggest currency note in your pocket." That was hard, because it was a lot of money. I almost shouted, "Get behind me, satan," but I know God's voice, so I stammered, "Yes, yes, Lord." Not long after that, there was another gathering, and He asked the same question again. I gave the same answer, and He said, "Double what you have been giving Me," so I doubled it. Not long after that, He asked me to triple it. I did, and then He began to act. Every day, different people would approach me to give me something, so I started to expect it. One day, I was about to sleep when I remembered that no one had approached me to give me anything. I told God, "Daddy, I didn't receive Your messenger today. Nobody gave me anything today." Around midnight, somebody knocked on my door and said, "Sir, God asked me to give you this." I asked the fellow how he could be out that late, and he said, "I know that the God who sent me to you will take care of me." Beloved, let me ask you, "What kind of Christian would you like to be, a poor one or a rich one?" I want you to trust God and let Him prove Himself in your life as the Almighty Supplier. Give to Him continually out of the resources He has blessed you with, and I can assure you that a time will come when you will say to Him, "God, are these blessings not becoming too much?" MESSAGE: Some years ago, a member of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International declared that he would cover the cost of every evangelistic programme held in his chapter throughout that year, and everyone agreed. Later that year, the man shared the testimonies about what the Lord had done for him as a result of his giving, and the other members of the fellowship were truly amazed. Then, he offered to cover all the costs of the chapter's evangelistic programmes for the next year, but other members of the fellowship said in unison, "No way!" They also wanted to partake of the blessings that come with giving and didn't want the man to enjoy them alone. In today's Bible reading, we read that Solomon sowed a thousand burnt offerings as a sacrifice to God, and that night, God appeared to him and asked what he wanted. Solomon asked for the gift of wisdom. God granted his request and also gave him unparalleled riches, wealth, and honour. Solomon was so blessed that the Bible tells us in (2 Chronicles 7:5) that when he gave another offering, he sacrificed 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep! One of the many beautiful things about trading with God is that God can never owe any man. If you give Him something, He will repay you monumentally. Nobody trades with God and suffers a loss. Hebrews 11:6 calls Him a rewarder of them who diligently seek Him. John 6:5-13 tells us the story of a boy who offered his five loaves of bread and two small fishes for Jesus to feed the multitudes. What happened next was that he witnessed one of the greatest miracles of all time, as he watched his tiny lunch multiply to feed thousands. Apart from that, he also received twelve baskets of leftover food, which I believe were given to him since it was his lunch that was used to feed the multitude. A child who came with a little lunch pack suddenly needed the help of adults to carry baskets of food back to his house. Beloved, Ephesians 3:20 says that God can do exceeding abundantly above all that you can ask or think. This clearly shows that you can never trade with God and become worse for it. Whatever you give to God will be given back to you in multiple folds, far beyond your wildest imagination. KEY POINT: Nobody trades with God and suffers a loss. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. MESSAGE: The law of harvest is one of the most powerful laws created by God. It states that ‘whatever a person sows is what he or she will reap’ (Galatians 6:7), and it is so powerful that God applied it to Himself when He wanted more children. John 12:24 says a corn of wheat must first be sown into the ground and die before it can bring forth much fruit. So God sowed His only begotten son (Jesus Christ), so that He might gain many more children, and Jesus would become the firstborn among many brethren (Romans 8:29). Many years ago, there was a man in Nigeria who would hand out cash to people randomly wherever he went. People followed him everywhere he went because they knew that he would give them money. Some people wondered if he was mad, but he wasn’t; he only discovered that the more he gave out money, the more he received. Anyone who truly discovers the secret of the law of harvest would never be begged to give. The law of harvest is so powerful that when a person sows a seed of kindness or wickedness, the fellow will harvest what he or she has sown in bountiful folds. Nobody sows a grain of corn and harvests a grain; if you sow a grain of corn, the least harvest you can expect is a cob of corn with many grains. Job 4:8 says “…they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.” People who spend their time scheming to harm others will eventually fall into the traps they created. Likewise, if you sow kindness, you will reap an abundance of kindness. Hosea 10:12 says that when people sow in righteousness, they will reap in mercy. Beloved, one thing you must constantly sow as a believer is good works. Dorcas could never have known that the harvest of her good works towards the widows in her community would come in the form of her being resurrected from the dead (Acts 9:36-42) – that is another mystery about the law of harvest. Today’s Bible reading tells us that whatever is sown often returns in another form because God gives the seed a body as He pleases. Dorcas’ seed of kindness returned in a bigger, better form as God’s gift of resurrection. Keep sowing good works, and watch God repay you in ways beyond your wildest imagination. MESSAGE: Some people attain a level of success in life and believe they have reached the pinnacle of success, so they stop doing the things that helped them become successful. Before long, however, they often come to the realisation that they have begun to regress. This is why, if you have found a key that has helped you make progress in any area of your life and become successful, you must keep using it. The moment a fellow stops doing the things that helped him or her to become successful, such a person will begin to regress. Genesis 26:12-14 says: Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him. Isaac sowed in a time of famine because God told him not to leave the land (Genesis 26:2). He sowed the first year and had a hundred-fold return. However, he didn't stop there. I imagine that in the second year, he sowed again, and because he had a hundredfold more than he used to have, he sowed a hundred times more seeds than he sowed the first year and reaped an even greater harvest. I imagine that he kept sowing year after year, thereby compounding his harvest. As a result, he continued to progress until it reached a point that his prosperity became very evident. He became so prosperous that the king of the country came to tell him that he had become mightier than the entire nation, even though he was an immigrant (Genesis 26:16). Isaac didn't stop at one level of prosperity; he kept sowing and moving forward until an entire nation envied him. Of a truth, it is God who gives prosperity. In (1 Corinthians 3:6), Paul said, "I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase." Paul may plant, Apollos may water, but it is God who ultimately gives the increase. However, there will be no increase if nothing has been planted and watered. This means that the more seeds you plant, the greater your harvest should be. Based on the principle of sowing and reaping, when a person stops planting and watering, the flow of prosperity and increase will also stop. MESSAGE: When I became the General Overseer of RCCG, I was so concerned about the church’s growth that I would fast, pray, and preach for years without taking any rest or going on holiday. Suddenly, I discovered that whenever I preached for more than 15 minutes, I would lose my voice. I followed numerous recommendations from people to combat the issue, such as drinking tea with honey, but it persisted. One elderly woman discovered what was wrong with me and said, “You are suffering from what is called ‘teacher’s disease’. You keep teaching without resting your voice, and now it is in rebellion.” I asked her for the cure, and she said, “Don’t talk for 15 days.” I responded, “How am I going to do that with my busy schedule?” She answered and said, “When your voice no longer lasts for up to five minutes when you preach, you’ll do what I said.” Therefore, for the first time since became General Overseer, I took a holiday and went to Germany. I stayed with the Nigerian ambassador there, who had a sauna in his house. He told me that it warms the body from the inside out, and when I enter, I must exit after 15 minutes at most because I would have been sweating profusely. I went into the sauna, and 5 minutes later, I hadn’t sweated. Ten minutes later, I still hadn’t sweated. It wasn’t until after 15 minutes, when I was supposed to be out, that I began to notice a little sweat. I stayed in the sauna for 45 minutes before any real sweat came out. I had put my body under so much stress that it wasn’t functioning as it should anymore. Since then, I have learned that I must not overwork myself and must rest from time to time if I am going to fulfil the assignment that God has given me. In Exodus 20:1-17, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, and you will notice that four of the verses emphasise the law of the Sabbath. God emphasised the need for His people to rest on the Sabbath Day and keep it holy. To emphasise its importance, God revisited the issue of the Sabbath in Exodus 31:12-17, instructing Moses that anyone who violated the law of the Sabbath should be put to death. Beloved, getting rest from time to time is important. When you rest as often as you ought to, you will keep yourself refreshed and preserve your life. MESSAGE: Yesterday, I mentioned that you should recharge your spiritual energy whenever you feel a hunger in your spirit. This is very important; however, you should also continue to refuel your spiritual energy even when you don't feel a spiritual hunger so that you can be prepared ahead of any emergency. This is what I refer to as 'extra oil'. Extra oil is the reservoir of prayers and fasting that you have previously done and the Bible verses you have memorised that will come in handy when you are suddenly faced with a challenge. That is why you should always pray, fast, and study the word of God more than you think is necessary, because on days when you need a quick spiritual surge of power, it is from the reservoir that you have built that you will quickly recharge your energy. For example, temptations can arise on a day when you are not fully charged, and you will need strength to resist them. It is from your extra oil that the strength will come. Likewise, if danger suddenly shows up or disaster strikes, you will need to switch to a war mode quickly, and that can only happen when you have a reservoir of oil in you. In such moments, you can start by speaking in tongues. As you speak in tongues, you will draw from the extra oil in your reservoir, and before long, you will feel a surge of power, and then you will be able to solve the problem at hand. However, nothing will happen if there is no extra oil in your reservoir, even if you speak vehemently in tongues when facing a disaster. Child of God, nobody prepares for war on a battlefield. Oftentimes, commanders and soldiers plan their battle strategies long before wars break out. In Matthew 26:36-44, the Bible recounts how Jesus spent time praying earnestly in the Garden of Gethsemane before he was arrested. While He prayed, His disciples slept; therefore, when challenges arose, they had no extra oil to draw from, so they fled. Peter denied Jesus, and all the other disciples fainted on the day of adversity because their strength was small (Proverbs 24:10). Beloved, pray more than you think is necessary before the day of adversity comes. Prayer is never a waste. Speak in tongues often, and spend ample time in God's presence so that when the day of adversity comes, you will have more than enough extra oil to draw strength from. Also, after you have eaten breakfast and worked for some time, you are expected to take a break for lunch to refuel. The Almighty God created hunger to remind you that you are running low on energy, so you can go ahead and recharge by eating. In the same way batteries must be recharged from time to time so they can remain effective, you must constantly recharge yourself spiritually so that you will not become spiritually ineffective. Whenever you begin to run low on spiritual energy, there will be a hunger in your spirit, and you will feel the need to refill. When that hunger comes, please don't ignore it. Start fasting and praying immediately to recharge your spiritual energy. If you allow the hunger to persist, you will become weak, and this may cause you to faint in the day of adversity (Proverbs 24:10). God, in His infinite mercy, has also provided the Holy Communion as a very effective way for Christians to refuel spiritually. The wine of the Holy Communion represents the blood of Jesus, and since the life of the flesh is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11), then the life of Jesus is in His blood. You cannot drink the blood of Jesus worthily and remain weak. People who belong to occult groups understand the power of blood. When members of the occult want to receive more power, they are asked to make sacrifices that involve blood. The greater the power they seek, the greater the sacrifices required. In most cases, those who rise to the highest levels of such groups are asked to drink the blood of their victims for quicker and greater empowerment. As children of God, when we partake of the Holy Communion, we partake of the blood of our risen Lord. Today's memory verse tells us that the blood of Jesus speaks better things than that of Abel. MESSAGE: Yesterday, I discussed some benefits of having the fear of God, and today I will discuss how having the fear of God can give you access to the secrets of His heart. The Bible says in Psalm 25:14 that the secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will reveal His covenant to them. God shares His secrets with those who fear Him, just like we humans tend to confide in those who believe in us and hold us in high regard. Abraham was someone who feared the Lord, and in turn, he was given access to the secrets of God's heart. When God wanted to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, He said, "...Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do," (Genesis 18:17). God can only say such about the people who fear Him because He knows that they will cherish His secrets. Daniel was another person who gained tremendous insights because of how he feared and honoured God. He was taken into captivity at a young age, but his fear of the Lord led him to remain faithful to Him. The Bible says in Daniel 1:8 that he purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the portion of the king's meat. He honoured God by being faithful to Him even in a foreign land and also led his companions to do the same. God, in turn, honoured his decision by making him and his companions ten times better than their peers (Daniel 1:20). When the king had a dream that none of the magicians in the land could tell or interpret, God revealed it to Daniel (Daniel 2:19). Beloved, when you fear God, you will never lack spiritual knowledge and insight because God will always make sure that you have access to it. Today's memory verse says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, and Psalm 111:10 also says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Everyone who feared the Lord in the Bible had access to uncommon knowledge. If you want to access that kind of knowledge, you have to fear God. If you want God to give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches in secret places, just as He promised in Isaiah 45:3, you must honour Him with your thoughts, decisions, and actions. I pray that the Almighty God will give you access to the secrets of His heart as you honour Him with your life, in Jesus' name. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: TUESDAY 25TH AUGUST 2026 TOPIC: FEAR GOD, PART 1 MEMORIZE: "But the Lord your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies." 2 Kings 17:39 (KJV) BIBLE READING: PSALM 112:1-9 1 Praise ye the Lord. MESSAGE: The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom (Psalm 111:10); therefore, anyone who does not fear God is not wise. He is a Consuming Fire (Hebrews 12:29), and those who do not fear Him are truly foolish because even a mad dog fears fire. Psalm 111:10 also means that those who fear God become wise. Apart from wisdom, however, there are many other benefits to fearing God, and today's Bible reading outlines many of them. One of the benefits is that the seed of a person who fears God will be mighty upon the earth (Psalm 112:2). That same verse also tells us that the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Psalm 112:3 says that you will have access to wealth and riches when you fear God. Also, Psalm 112:7 says that you will not be afraid of evil tidings. People who fear God do not need to be afraid of anything because He will deliver them out of the hands of all their enemies and everything that can harm them. Those who do not fear God will find it easy to commit sins, and this can bring a curse upon them and their descendants. For example, Gehazi's lack of fear for the Lord caused him and his descendants to become carriers of the leprosy that was previously upon Naaman (2 Kings 5:20-27). Whenever a person acts in a way that shows that he or she does not fear God, such a person robs his or her children of the opportunity to be great and exposes them to curses rather than blessings. Joab was another person whose lack of fear for the Lord brought curses upon his lineage. In (2 Samuel 3:27-29), the Bible details how he tricked Abner and murdered him in cold blood. When David heard about it, he placed a curse on Joab's lineage that sicknesses, leprosy, poverty, weakness, and untimely death would befall Joab's family and his descendants. People who do not fear God purchase trouble for their children. Beloved, if you want your future and that of your children to be glorious, you need to have the fear of God in you. If you're going to have peace of mind in your old age, you must fear God. The reason I am sure that my tomorrow and those of my children will be alright is that I fear the Lord. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: MONDAY 24TH AUGUST 2026 TOPIC: NOTHING GOOD TO OFFER MEMORIZE: "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7 (KJV) BIBLE READING: LUKE 11:24-26 24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. 25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. 26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. MESSAGE: The devil has two types of captives: the willing captives and the unwilling captives. An unwilling captive is someone who has entered either willingly or unwillingly into the trap of the devil but now wants to be delivered. Such a fellow will be set free from the devil’s hold when an anointed child of God prays for him or her. A willing captive, on the other hand, is someone who also gets into the devil’s hold either willingly or unwillingly but refuses to repent or be delivered because of the perceived benefits he or she is getting by serving satan. Even if such a fellow is forcefully delivered, he or she will return to the devil’s camp, and this time around, the bondage will be much worse because the demon(s) that were previously cast out will be multiplied sevenfold (Matthew 12:43-45). Many years ago, we discovered that a witch was among us in the church. We prayed for her to be delivered; however, she remained in bondage. We then asked her if she wanted to be free, and she said, “No. Do you want me to lose the power that I use to control my husband?” Such thinking is very unfortunate because those who serve the devil are headed for eternal damnation if they do not repent. A woman whose children were dying one after the other went to seek help from a prophet because she needed him to pray to God for their protection. While waiting for him, his wife asked her why she wanted to see her husband. She explained why she had come, and the prophet’s wife gave her a kolanut to eat, telling her it would solve her problem and that she didn’t need to wait for her husband again. When she went to sleep that night, she suddenly found herself among some witches in the spirit realm. They welcomed her and promised to protect her children if she joined them. She agreed based on their promise, and after some time, it became her turn to supply the blood that the coven would drink. At that point, she surrendered her husband to be sacrificed. More time passed, and it became her turn again to supply blood. This time, however, the witches asked her to sacrifice her children. That was when she decided to seek God’s help to save her children from the devil’s plan. Thank God she came to the church, and God delivered her. Beloved, the devil offers nothing good or lasting. For everything he gives, he takes a thousandfold in return. I pray that God grants you the grace to avoid his traps, and if he currently has any hold over you and you are willing to be set free, I decree your liberty now, in Jesus’ name.
