  • The Forest Whispers His Name

The wind whispers over the waters,
as though trying to tell us
    the secrets of the past.

The trees stretch their branches toward the heavens,
lifting them as though in praise.

The leaves fall gently from the trees,
    as though waving goodbye
to the life they once knew,
    releasing what has been
    and surrendering themselves
    to something new.

The water meanders through the rocks,
tracing paths that lead to places
alive with the sounds of life.

    The rocks sit,
    placed with care and wonder,
    one upon another,
    each holding its place
signs of where the water once lived.

    And in the silence,
the sounds of the forest gently speak of life.

    The trees,
their leaves dressed in the colours of spring,
    burst into life,
each one displaying the majesty of His creation.

Everything seems to whisper His name.

    The wind.
    The water.
    The trees.
    The rocks.
The sounds of life hidden within the forest.

His wonder and beauty are on display
for anyone willing to stop long enough to see.

    And if you believe,
    if you listen closely,
perhaps you can hear His voice too

    speaking words of life,
    of love,
    and of hope.

    1 Kings 19:11-13

    Within a mighty Windstorm:
A ferocious wind raged and roared.
    Playing a frantic chaotic chord.
The every earth trembled and groaned.
Like a lost tragic soul disowned.

Yet in the torment of the wind.
Amongst the crying of those who've sind.
A calming voice is softly heard.
Be calm and wait now upon my word.

    Within a terrible earthquake:
Hold fast as the earth will tremble.
And watch as the angels assemble.
The earth itself is filled with dread.
The land is chard and rivers run red.

And yet the Lord is nowhere found.
    Amongst the fearful terrible sound.
His voice is not amongst the clash.
Of mountain stones and rocks as they crash.

    Within a raging firestorm:
Then a fire fiercely consumes all.
As a deadly rain of embers fall.
Fragile flesh and blood burn and boil.
That burns the ground yet feeds the earths soil.

But for the Lord you'll search in vain.
He's not to be found in fiery rain.
For he'll not be found in turmoil.
Don't let the inferno your soul roil.

    Within a gentle whisper:
And now there's a gentle voice.
Hear the Lord and let your heart rejoice.
And know that the Lord is near you.
For His promise to you, He'll be true.

Now bow your head in deep prayer.
For the Lord of life, your sins did bear.
As you kindle your inner flame.
In stillness worship His holy name.

    An Acrostic

    Moonlight filters through the trees.
I embrace the cool night breeze.
Diamond like stars light my path.
    Narnia is close at hand.
    I can hear Aslan calling.
    Glowing lamposts mark the door.
    Heralding an adventure.
    Tomorrow can wait for now.

  • Eternity In ATear Drop ©

    Ask me about eternity.
And I will show you eternity in a tear drop.

    Jesus wept;
    The Lords tears,
    Fell to the very earth,
    That He had created.
    Now watered by His anguish.

    Jesus wept;
    They stood there,
And watched Him as he cried.
    Ignorant of His pain.
Their thoughts filled with human cares.

    Jesus wept;
    Angels sighed,
For they knew why he cried.
    For a world in darknes.
That could not see the light.

    Jesus wept;
    God looked on,
    The fullfilment of plans,
    Set forth at creation.
When would they see the truth?

  • Though the Night May Seem Long

    Though the night seems endless,
and the morning feels a long way off,
    joy comes in the morning.

Sadness may endure for a night,
and the darkness may seem to linger,
    but morning always comes.

    The darkness begins to fade,
    and a new day dawns
a day filled with promise, hope and possibility.

The tears of the night have dried,
and somehow, in the light of a new day,
    things begin to look different.

The circumstances may not have changed.
The situation may still be the same.
    But I have changed.

Because I spent the night in His presence.

    There were tears
tears of pain, tears of travail,
    tears that soaked my pillow
as I cried out to God.

    But I survived the night.

    And when morning came,
    His presence filled the places
    where sorrow had been.

The darkness could not stay forever.
    The tears were not wasted.
And the night did not have the final word.

The light began to fill my heart again,
and with it came a new joy.

I may not know what this new day will bring,
    but I know the One
who brought me through the night.

    So I will rise.
    I will breathe.
    I will trust.

For His mercies are new every morning,
and if He carried me through the night,
He will walk with me into the day.

  • Safe In the Cleft

    The wind blows all around,
    the snow falls without warning,
the storm rages in every direction,
    yet I am not moved.

    I am held safe
in the cleft of the Rock,
    hidden in the place
    where You keep me.

    The wind cannot knock me
    from where I stand,
for I do not stand alone.
I am held in Your arms.

    Though the storm ravages
    all that surrounds me,
    I remain unmoved,
    secured in Your presence,
    protected from every element.

    The warmth of Your love
    is my shield,
    my covering,
    my refuge.

    I have no fear
in this place of Your love.
    Though the storm presses in
    on every side,
You will not let it come near me.

    Your love surrounds me,
a fortress I did not build.

    Held in grace
    I cannot understand,
in love I do not deserve,
    yet freely given.

    It costs me nothing
    but surrender.

    So I rest here,
in the cleft of the Rock,
    hidden, held,
    forever safe in You.

  • Colour – the Language Of His Beauty

    He paints
    with a myriad of colours,
    and His palette
    never runs dry.

    Colours so bold,
    so brilliant,
that only He could create them.

    Alive with purpose,
    rich with meaning,
    they do not fade
    as empty things do.

    They carry something deeper
    a quiet whisper
    of intention,
    of care.

    They say a picture paints
    a thousand words,
    but Yours speak millions.

    Each colour placed with precision,
    with thought,
with beauty that reaches beyond sight
    and settles into the soul.

From the vast stretch of the sky
    painted in shifting hues,
    to the smallest insect
    hidden among the leaves,

    each one displays a beauty
    beyond depth,
    beyond description.

    Nothing is accidental.
    Nothing is wasted.

    A world without colour
    would feel empty
    silent
    without life.

    But colour breathes.

    It pulses.
    It speaks.

    In every bloom,
    in every rainbow,
in every detail we might overlook,

    there is a message:

    You are seen.
    You are loved.
    You are cared for.

For the One who created it all
    did not hold back.

He filled the world with beauty
    so that we might see
    just a glimpse
    of Him.

  • The Shadows

    Dappled, dancing shadows
cast their lines in patterns not easily traced.
    The small becomes mighty,
    the towering made gentle
each one a display of mystery and delight.

    In the world of shadows,
nothing is quite as it seems.
    For without the light,
what shadow could ever be formed?

Darkness tries to hide within the shadows,
yet the light will always find it.
And in the deepest dark, there is no shadow at all
so where does my shadow go?

    Even there You are present.
Your light breaks through, showing the way.

I have no need to fear the shadow,
for without You, it cannot exist.

    Once, in days long gone,
a shadow cast could bring healing
    and still today,
under the shadow of Your wings,
    I find refuge.

    I am safe.

    To walk within Your shadow
    is to remain close
    held, covered, kept from harm.

For darkness is the absence of light,
    but in Your shadow
    there is light,
    there is love,
    there is protection.

  • Grace Found Me Searching

    Looking for God
    in all the wrong places,
    trying to find
    true peace of mind.

Lost in a world of darkness,
    searching for the light,
but in all the places I looked,
    peace was nowhere in sight.

    The tranquillity I needed
    was too hard to find,
    nothing seemed able
    to quiet my mind.

    Then grace found me searching
    and showed me the way,
to a place I had not known,
where I was welcomed to stay.

    The light was so bright
    I wanted to run,
but I was taken by the hand
    and led to the Son.

    I saw through the pain
    of all I had been,
to the One who could finally
    cleanse me from sin.

    I reached for His touch,
    but ashamed of my state,
    I wanted to run,
    to turn and escape.

    Then a gentle voice whispered,
“There is no need to fear.
    You will find love
    and compassion here.”

    Fighting the fear,
    the shame and the pride,
    I found myself
    no longer trying to hide.

    I reached for the love
    poured out for me,
and in the blink of an eye,
    for the first time

    I FELT FREE.

As one looks in the mirror,
    I cast my gaze
towards the surface of the water,
    looking for the reflection
    I long to see.

    The reflection I seek
    it is no longer me.

    I search to seek,
    in hopes that I find
    the reflection of You
in the waves of my mind.

    Your image is the face
    that I long to see,
    the proof of Your life
    dwelling in me.

    The light of Your love
    breaking through,
    showing me
    that I belong to You.

    As I look deeper,
    the ripples move
    to reveal
what the eyes just cannot see

    the life of You
    now dwelling in me.

    And search as I might,
it is now hard to find
    traces of the me
    that I have left behind.

    Your work has brought
    changes in me,
changes that only You can see.

As I walk in Your way,
    I begin to see

    the reflection that looks back
    is no longer me.

The night shrouds the cold sky in starry splendour.
    As the shadows fall.
The Lords sweet angels singing oh so tender.
    With the masters call.

I close my eyes as I calm my troubled mind.
    Yet I shed no tear.
For in the darkness it is you that I find.
    I can feel you near.

Before I drift to sleep to you I will pray.
    My humble request.
Between now and the breaking of a new day.
    My sleep is blessed.

I will dream of that distant celestial shore.
    A place of wonder.
Where I will live in delight for evermore.
    With Christ my Saviour.

  • My Mess, God’s Masterpiece

When I view the Master’s paintings,
hanging for the world to see,
    I think a masterpiece
    could never become me.

My faults and all my failures
seem displayed for all to see,
    yet You whisper gently,
“The masterpiece I’m creating is thee.”

    Each brushstroke has a purpose,
each touch is placed with care.
    The colours on Your palette
    are beyond all compare.

    Your love becomes so evident,
    so deep I can’t comprehend,
that my life is the paintbrush
    held safely in Your hand.

    Though You’re creating a masterpiece,
I know I may not see
    the finished work You’re painting
    this side of eternity.

Until that day, I’ll trust You,
    though the canvas seems unclear,
    for every stroke of mercy
    is drawing You more near.

    My mess is not the ending;
    it’s where Your grace begins.
    The Master sees a masterpiece
where the world still sees my sin.

You are not of this cold dark world.
So you should stand out as unique.
    Indifferent to sarcasm.
    Set yourself apart from others.
you are on a sacred journey.
    Towards a promised paradise.

There will be others in your life.
Who you will meet and connect with.
Some will accept you as you are.
While some will sadly turn away.
Just be true to saviour king.
And true friends will always be near.

The world is a fading nightmare.
    Images entangled in fear.
    Filled with enchanting deceptions.
Your difference will be a light.

Salvation © Acrostic Salient is the moment. Askance were my family. Loving was Gods' perfect grace. Vouchsafe was my saviours gift. Admitting I need saving. To you Lord I am contrite. In submission I bow down. Obedient to your call. Nothing can take the Lords place. MJ Flack

    A Found Poem

A little bird, with plumage brown,
    Beside my window flutters down,
A moment chirps its little strain,
    Then taps upon my window-pane,
And chirps again, and hops along,
    To call my notice to its song;
But I work on, nor heed its lay,
Till, in neglect, it flies away.

Looking out on the dawning day,
My thoughts like dry leaves drift away,
What did I hear that now has left?
That seemed fleeting and rather deft.
The sound of a friend's short visit.
To draw my near and elicit.
To rise and greet a friend one knows.
With gentle words and lilting prose.

Yet gone is the passing moment.
For time is my worse opponent.
As wasted time and passing thoughts.
Leaves my spirit in twisted knots.
Why did I tarry and delay.
And let my mind in tatters fray.
To miss the moment bitter sweet.
And in regret I make retreat.

I pray that I may always be.
    A welcome friend awaiting thee.
A Christian with an open door.
    An open heart for evermore.
For I should never want to miss.
    Another note of tender bliss.
    So patiently I will attend.
And welcome hence my every friend.

    Glowing In The Shade

    We're growing in the light.
Where sin can't show its' face.
    We ready for the fight.
    Empowered by Gods' grace.

    A comfort for the lost.
    A fire within the shade.
    We never count the cost.
    For the bridges we've made.

    The Lord within our heart.
    A light for the unsaved.
We're pledged to do our part.
    Through the battle we'll brave.

    There's power in the light.
    There's fear within the shade.
Yet we'll do what is right.
    Our faith won't be swayed.

    a gregorian chant

    (English)
    Although we're a body.
    As Christs ambassadors
    We should be as one
    One harmony
    As one spirit
    Singing a concentus
    To Jesus our Lord

    Of one spirit
    Many sweet voices
    Together in prayer
    Like light incense
    Rises up to heaven
    To the throne of God
    This our worship of love

    May the Lord be honoured
    May our works
    As our words
    Shine Gods' grace
    In a dark world
    This we do promise
    As we live and breath

    (Latin)

    Ad Jesum Dominum nostrum

    Unius spiritus
    Multi dulces voces
    simul in oratione
    Sicut incensum lux

    Ghazal

    There is a soft flow.
    Gentle and fluid.
    Rhythmic and metred.
    Ebbing receding.
    Pulsing and vibrant.
    Alive with being.

    Heart Kindly whispers.
    The Lords Serenade.
    Calming our worries.
    Consoling our fears.
    In tender embrace.
    We find our comfort.

    In the rhythm of life.
    We find completion.
    Musical blessing.
    Perfect crescendo.
    An opus of love.
    Gods' grace perfected.

  • Help Me Live for You

Lord, help me crucify the flesh
And let it have no space
To turn my soul away from you
Or block the path of grace.

    Remove the pleasures sin affords
That lure from all that’s right,
And change the things that I desire
    To seek Your pure delight.

Awake in me a holy thirst
    For righteousness and good,
Please help me love the things You love
    And do as Jesus would.

Where I’ve left room for fleshly lusts
    And worldly things that fade,
Reveal my sin and help me turn
From where my soul has strayed.

Convict and cleanse, renew and bless,
Lord, help me live for You –
Sold out for Christ with no reserves
In love that’s pure and true.

    Christina Joy Hommes

And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Galatians 5:24

Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Hebrews 11:25

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6

But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Romans 13:14

That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24

Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen. Ephesians 6:24

  • By Grace Not Works
    By Grace Not Works

My works can never save me
Or pay the debt I owe
    To get me into heaven
Or wash me white as snow.

    Each moment’s full allegiance
    Belongs to God my King
And can’t make up for past ones –
    There’s nothing spare to bring.

    My best attempts are tainted,
    My purest thoughts are flawed,
So on my own I’m helpless
To try to get to God.

    But Jesus Christ my Savior
Came down to earth for me,
    Completely pure and sinless
    To set the guilty free.

    He took my sinful record
As if it was His own
Then died to buy my pardon,
    To rescue and atone.

    He paid my debt completely,
    Washed all my sin away,
And rose to give me access
    To God’s eternal day.

There’s nothing I can give Him
To add to what He’s done –
He did it all and gives me
    The freedom that He won.

    I cannot earn or merit
This gift of love divine –
By grace alone He saved me
    And made His mercy mine.

  • Thank You for Your Love
    Thank You for Your Love

My God, I come in humble awe
And thank You for Your love
So vast, so deep, so wonderful
    It lifts my heart above.

That God Himself would come to earth
    Rejected, tested, poor,
Then take my sin with all its shame
    To open heaven’s door.

That Jesus Christ would bear my guilt
And wear it on the tree –
    Unjustly lifted up to die
To show His love for me.

That on the cross as darkness fell
    And heaven turned away,
He gave Himself to pay my debt
    To wash my sins away.

That three days on He broke the chains
That bound me to the grave –
He rose again to live and reign,
    To pardon, rescue, save.

That when I was an enemy
He set His love on me
And sent His Spirit in my heart
To make these blind eyes see.

That when I came with nothing good
    To offer at His throne,
He welcomed me with matchless grace
To take me as His own.

That though I sin and often fall
He loves me just the same
And lets me have a special part
    To magnify His Name.

That when I’m weak and feeling low,
    He proves His love indeed
With comfort, strength, and tender care
    To meet my every need.

That in a world so marred by sin
    He sends such pure delight
    With blessings, gifts, provisions, too,
To bring me joy and light.

That someday soon He’ll take me home
    To realms of endless love
Where He’s prepared a perfect place
    To dwell with me above.

That endless years will never dull
    The perfect joy we’ll share,
    The oneness of eternal love
To which He’s made me heir.

Oh, what a love I see displayed
    In all Your gracious ways!
Lord, help me love You more, I pray,
    And lift eternal praise.
