AMBASSADORS FOR CHRIST
A WORD FROM THE WORD:
"... Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." Matthew 4:19 NKJV.
As we walk with the LORD Jesus, we are called as fishers of men to share the Gospel message with others in word and deed, and to take an active role in their discipleship.
Fishing is a metaphor, obviously, for seeking men and women who will also follow our LORD Jesus. To be a fisherman takes more than being fortunate, or sitting around waiting. It is more than hoping the fish will come to you, it takes understanding when to fish; where fish will likely be at, and what kind of bait they like.
Fishing for people, without sounding too immodest, takes the same qualities and understanding.
Our calling is to be in the world but not of it, with full awareness of what is happening in the world around us, and to be fully engaged in the lives of our neighbours with the view of bringing them to the saving knowledge of our LORD Jesus. A fisher of men, represents the LORD Jesus Christ as His Ambassador to the world, acting on His behalf to bring reconciliation; and is bestowed with the following aspects of relationships.
1). Relationship with God (who called and enables us through His Spirit to become fishers of men indeed).
2). Relationship with God’s people (fellow believers who we work hand-in-glove with to win souls for Christ in the course of our 'fishing expedition'.)
3). Relationship with outsiders (these are men and women we witness and reach out to with the Gospel to win them to the LORD Jesus).
But while the three things above are common to all Christians everywhere, The LORD Jesus has called you uniquely to follow Him and be made a fisher of men in ways that fit who you are, your location, your culture, etc.
Find out your unique gift and calling and make it available for God to use.
PRAYER BULLETS:
LORD Jesus, thank You for this specific and unique call to be a fisher of men, to Your glory. Help me to answer this call faithfully and give my all to You in this responsibility without let.
FURTHER READING:
2 Corinthians 5:20; Matthew 9:37-38; Proverbs 11:30.
