*Charis Daily Devotionals – Monday, 18th August 2025* *Understanding Gifts, Offices & Authority* *Author:* Louis Mulongoti > *_"There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.” — 1 Corinthians 12:4–5 (NIV)_* In the kingdom of God, we must distinguish between spiritual gifts, ministerial offices, and spiritual authority. These are not the same, yet they work together to equip the Body of Christ. Spiritual gifts are abilities the Holy Spirit gives to every believer, healing, prophecy, tongues, discernment, and more. These gifts are not earned, but graciously given for the edification of the Church. Ministerial gifts, also called the fivefold offices (Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, Teacher)—are callings for service and leadership. One may operate in a spiritual gift without holding an office. Finally, spiritual authority is not just about gifts or titles, it is about alignment with God, obedience, and purity. Authority flows through relationship. A man may preach powerfully but carry no spiritual authority if he’s disconnected from the life of God. > *_"The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets.
