AVOIDING THE TRAP OF COMPARISON

A WORD FROM THE WORD:

"Jesus replied, 'If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.'" John 21:22 NLT

The LORD Jesus is bent on helping us concentrate on what He has called and equipped us to do, instead of needless comparative analysis. Because it is obvious that, left on our own, we'll like to be like others, and that is the reason why He is talking to us concerning this, through the Gospel of John, by the Holy Spirit.
So many Christians are not satisfied with what they have been gifted and blessed by the LORD. Their hearts, lacking the LORD's discipline, are always perturbed about other people's callings, gifts, etc.

When we do not understand and appreciate or take to heart the essence of our salvation and calling by God, there's every tendency that we'll be discouraged, regardless of our human wisdom.

Today, we see Christians overreaching themselves trying to be like others. But it is clear from our anchor Scripture that such behaviour is not in alignment with God's will and desire for us - following the LORD Jesus.

May we continue to listen to the promptings of God, through His Spirit and bring Him glory with our lives.
Much as we don't want to be dismissed from the LORD's presence as 'practitioners of lawlessness' (Matthew 7:23), we also don't want to be 'disqualified after preaching to others'. (1 Corinthians 9:27). We must endeavour to follow Him all the way.

PRAYER BULLETS:

LORD Jesus, in all areas of my life, help me to maintain and stay within the boundaries of my calling and follow You duly.

FURTHER READING:

Matthew 7:21-23; 1 Corinthians 9:24-27; Proverbs 23:1-8.
