STEWARDSHIP AND DETACHMENT FROM RICHES
A WORD FROM THE WORD:
"Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me." Mark 10:21 NKJV.
For some, the primitive accumulation of, and trust in riches is the sole motivation in life. But a reflection on the LORD Jesus' teachings on treasures and the condition of the human heart helps the inquirer to learn to trust in God's provision over material possessions. He counsels that we warehouse riches in heaven where rust and moth does not destroy and has eternal value, instead of here on earth where it is temporal and is subject to destruction.
In His teachings, the LORD Jesus points out a truthful fact that the heart of a natural man is basically inclined to be centred where his riches are, as such, is obsessed by the pursuit of worldly riches.
We can draw good lessons from the LORD Jesus, by rearranging our priorities, and move to trust in divine provision for our needs by casting our burdens on God and seeing Him take care of us and our needs.
May God engrace us to diligently examine our hearts' true disposition to Him and align our lives with His Kingdom purpose, by surrendering to Him, trusting Him to avail to us all, yes, all our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
PRAYER BULLETS:
Father LORD, thank You for Your loving kindness. Help me to make seeking Your Kingdom and righteousness a priority, and to trust in Your provisions.
FURTHER READING:
Matthew 6:19-21; Luke 18:18-23; Philippians 4:13.
