THE DANGERS OF ZEALOUS IGNORANCE

A WORD FROM THE WORD:

"So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart. And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, accompanying the ark of God; and Ahio went before the ark. Then David and all the house of Israel played music before the LORD on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals. And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. Then the anger of the LORD was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God. And David became angry because of the LORD’s outbreak against Uzzah; and he called the name of the place Perez Uzzah to this day." 2 Samuel 6:3-8 NKJV.

We see in our anchor Scripture above how that the Israelites, ably led by King David, were trying to bring the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem. They clearly had good intentions but acted wrongly by going outside of the LORD's laid down rules in the Law for handling the Ark of the Covenant. That anomaly unavoidably led to the death of Uzzah, who in his misguided zeal (for the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD and His name) touched the Ark to steady it from a fall.

Sometimes, you wonder why things do turn out bad for you, even in all your determination and sincerity in God's service. The truthful fact remains that God's does not relax His principles due to your misguided zeal or zealous ignorance. If like Uzzah, you're not a priest that is permitted to touch the Ark, don't ever be sincerely wrong in doing that; seek to live and act within the ambits of God's instructions, purpose and will for your life in order to avoid eternally regrettable consequence, because sincerity and zeal are not substitutes for God's ordinances and commands.

If it has to be, it's up to you.

PRAYER BULLETS:

ABBA Father, I thank You for opening the eyes of my mind to Your Word. I ask for the help of the Holy Spirit to be well-guided in my walk and work with You. I don't want to be ignorantly zealous.

FURTHER READING:

2 Samuel 6:3-8; 1 Chronicles 13:7-11; Proverbs 14:12; Romans 10:2-3; James 4:17.
