THE POWER OF YOUR WORDS
A WORD FROM THE WORD:
"Let the words of my mouth…be acceptable in Your sight…" Psalm 19:14 NKJV.
The words you speak creates or destroys, inspires or discourages, heals or hurts, therefore, you should endeavour to carefully choose what you say. The psalmist, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit desires to have the words of his mouth be acceptable in God's sight. This is indicative of the truth that careless and vain words should have no place in the bowels and bosom of the child of God.
The meaningless chatters you engage in when you have nothing worthwhile to contribute are mostly not worth the stress in view of your strive to live a pleasing life to God, and pursuit of eternity in His presence.
The more you engage in them, the more likely they are to deteriorate into gossips and hurt people. Would you trust someone who is flippant and has a frivolous comment for everything? If your answer is No. Then you should give a serious thought about what comes out of your mouth and consider the effects it has on others. The LORD Jesus appropriately identified the source of careless words, He says they '...come from an evil heart..' (Matthew 15:18 TLB).
The comely effects of graceful words cannot ever be negated. No wonder Paul, the apostle, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit admonishes us ‘Let your speech always be with grace…that you may know how you ought to answer each one’ (Colossians 4:6 NKJV).
With all these and other admonitions from the word of God it should be obvious to the discerning child of God that He doesn't turn blind eyes to vain and careless words.
PRAYER BULLETS:
Father LORD, I'm very grateful for insights from Your word. Help me through Your Spirit to always have my words seasoned by grace.
FURTHER READING:
Proverbs 17:28; 18:21; Colossians 4:6; Matthew 15:18; 12:36; James 3:6.
