VALUING YOUR SPIRITUAL INHERITANCE

A WORD FROM THE WORD:

"And Esau said, 'Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?"' Genesis 25:32 NKJV.

One of the major problems or weaknesses that slows down the progress of a child of God and robs him of the glorious destiny God has chosen him to walk in is indifference. Yet, for some, it is carelessness. Indifference comes with the understanding of nonchalance or showing no interest in somebody or something, as we read of in the account of Esau, exhibiting and displaying gross indifference regarding his birthright just for a mess of a porridge.
Esau's indifference and lack of value for spiritual inheritance were the contributory catalysts for his deception by his younger brother, Jacob, who received their father's (Isaac) blessings in his stead. Esau was obviously not a spiritually minded person, he did not take cognisance of the fact the moment he gave away his birthright, he lost his spiritual bragging rights to first sonship as well. He most probably had encouraged himself in his state of spiritual atrophy that it's only lipservice, 'I will just say 'take my birthright', it doesn't really change anything as I am already the first born son.' And so he nonchalantly gave away his birthright, that was a case and act of gross spiritual insensitivity which he later sought with tears when it was already too late.

You must endeavour as a child of God to learn a Godly lesson from Esau's nonchalance, especially to spiritual matters. Take an inventory of your spiritual life and see if there be very important things you are indifferent about.
Check up on your prayer life, personal Bible studies, do you walk in the counsel of the godless, sit in the seat of the scornful, stand with sinners, and lie without let and your conscience no longer pricks you, and yet you are not ruffled?

Beloved, now is the right time to strike the iron while it's still red hot, recourse to the LORD Jesus now and have Him restore you to the joy of His salvation, lest you become like Esau.

If it has to be, it's up to you.

PRAYER BULLETS:

ABBA Father, I thank You, forgive my nonchalance and indifference. Engrace me to be spiritually minded and please You with my life.

FURTHER READING:

Psalm 1:1-6; Genesis 25:28-34; Genesis 27:1-41; Hebrews 12:16.
