1 Peter 1:8-9 NIV Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
Good morning and praise God. I hope you're having a great morning. When you read about Daniel, he is a man who lived his faith rather than preaching it. His faith was not that lip sinking with other believers but instead a practical approach by living what He believed even amidst persecution. Our verses today are derived from a letter of Peter, one of the disciples of Jesus, to believers in Rome. Previously, we shared a little history about how persecution came about during the reign of king Nero. In our modern day, it seems Satan realized that direct persecution only spread the Gospel further and so it is not direct as it was then except in some countries. However, the saying that "many are the afflictions of a righteous man but the LORD delivers him out of them all..." remains valid. Peter reminds us about the importance of faith in Christian living. He tell us that when we live by faith, our lives will be filled with inexpressible and glorious joy. I know you desire this kind of joy, in fact, it is what even a nonbeliever hopes to get with worldly riches. However, our flesh is so much interested in living by the five common senses rather than faith. This means that you must personally make the decision to stop it and strengthen your inside person through practically living your faith. We strength our faith when we read God's Word, pray and live worshipping God in all circumstances of life. A good demonstration was when Paul and Silas had been locked in jail for preaching the Gospel. Instead of complaining to God, they lifted the banner of faith higher by worshipping that night. What happened? The jail doors could not remain any longer closed for them and the guys who had thrown them there had even to beg them to leave the city. The one manning the jail had already given his life to Jesus though before he had wanted to kill himself knowing that authorities would anyway kill him for the escaped prisoners. What an inexpressible and glorious joy! They might have had so much pain in body from the beating they had previously received but because they had chosen faith over flesh, they had a reason to be joyful. How I pray that God will help you and me to practically live our faith especially amidst life troubles and challenges. May the joy of the LORD be your strength. God loves you, have a blessed day. Shalom. Shalom.
