THE DANGER OF MISINTERPRETING THE SCRIPTURE IN THE DIGITAL AGE
A WORD FROM THE WORD:
"But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God." Matthew 22:29 ESV.
The religious leaders of our LORD Jesus' time prided themselves on their knowledge of the Scripture, they were evidently well-versed therein. Yet, the LORD Jesus found them lacking in true understanding. We see the LORD in the text respond with His profound wisdom to their attempts to ensnare Him, He unveiles their ignorance not only of the Scriptures, but also of the power of God.
It has become easier than ever to take a Bible verse out of context in this our digital age where information is readily available. Often we read or hear isolated verses and phrases without fully understanding the wider context in which they were spoken. This lack of context often leads to misinterpretations and misunderstandings of God's word.
It is crucial and important as well, for us as God's children to be discerning and approach His word with a thirst for understanding rather than relying on fragments of (a) text(s).
We must be careful, trusting God for His grace and mercy not to fall into the same snare as the religious leaders our LORD Jesus encountered. As a result, there's great need for us to diligently study the Scriptures and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit who brings clarity and revelation, to avoid misrepresenting God's intended meaning.
This is a timely reminder for us in this digital age, as we navigate the multitude of opinions, interpretations, and messages we come across daily.
PRAYER BULLETS:
Father LORD, thank You for the gift of Your word, which is a lamp unto my feet to guide my steps and stops. Forgive me, Father, for the times I have taken Your word out of context or misunderstood Your intended message.
FURTHER READING:
2 Timothy 2:15; Psalm 119:34; Psalm 119:130; John 16:13.
